Blog Closed, Buh-Bye!
Well, all good things must come to an end, as well as not-so-good things like this retarded piece-o-shit blog! Today marks the five year anniversary of the blog and, as it is obvious I’m not able to take care of business these days, I am choosing to end it five years from the day it started. Isn’t that nifty? And it’s not like there have been any drastic changes or misfortunes that led me to this decision—quite the contrary! It is the lack of change that is inspiring me to cut the cord. Thus, this is more of a symbolic gesture than anything else, as you can rest assured my lust for crap is unabated and I still make the rounds and bring home the bacon as far as vinyl and other oddities are concerned. I’ve had this habit for decades, know what I’m doing (as far as getting what I like, at least!) and still have a couple decent connections, so I would be an idiot to quit collecting and, obviously, they ain’t making any more of this shit—just think of what the vinyl market will look like in another ten or twenty years! No, I’m not ready to quit just yet, but the economic situation and general stagnation I have been dealing with personally for the last almost 5 years has become unbearable and it’s time to force some change. And please don’t feel bad for Mr. Poopy because the beauty of it is that I can. Mortgage? Nope. Debt? Not a cent. I don’t even have a lease on the house I rent! Health? I haven’t seen or needed to see a doctor or dentist since I moved back to the States from Canada—in 1983!!! So don’t give Mr. Poopy your sympathy—I consider myself a lucky bastard!
So now that the end is at hand, I will leave you with what is easily one of the most retarded and worthless pieces of vinyl ever created in the history of the universe, an album of complete and total silence by a certain “Tom Dudley”. Who the fuck spent their money on this crap? Well, it beats Falling In Reverse and at the same time provides the perfect ending to this blog: ominous silence and stupidity! And don’t forget what I told you about crap: it never lets you down! The vast majority of “serious” so-called “art” is just a hodgepodge of things that have already been done or a blatant rip-off, more often than not served up by someone with a lot more money and free time on their hands than you have. The emperor wears no clothes and it is rarely as clever as it markets itself, while culture in general really is in the toilet these days. Just stick with the lowest common denominator and you’ll always get what you paid for! And never mind those laughs and snickers while you’re paying for your $0.50 piece of shit at the cash register. I have racks of former $0.50 pieces of retarded shit that are now worth hundreds of times more than what I paid for them. Who’s laughing now?
The blog will continue to exist until either traffic dies off or I get sick of paying for it. All downloads will remain active. Buh-bye!

The Wild – 4 Song 12″ Picture Disc (1983)
So did you think I would just quit the blog with a novelty record? Would I do that? No, we must have one last Poopy blast and this one is quite the embodiment of all I hold dear and have attempted to promote at this spot—it’s Poopy Rock at its finest! And just get a look at these dudes—pretty stylin’ shit! So stylin’, in fact, that they took one side of the record as a picture disc to display their handsome mugs, leaving the listener with a measly four songs to listen to. And what of the music? I’ll call it a cross between Class of ’77 and NWOBHM, two great tastes that taste great together!
And there are a couple oddities with this thing, as well. First off, the label is Erika Records which, as most record dorks should know, is really a pressing plant. It sports the Erika moniker on the vinyl, but the only other places I’ve ever seen it are on test pressings. It also lists Erika as the label on the back cover. Another puzzling feature is the extra hands that seem to be sprouting out of “Spider Web’s” upper thigh. What the hell is going on? Well, the dude’s a fucking spider! Love that first track on this record, too, ‘tis quite the head-bobber and was stuck in my own bobbing head for days after finding this. Good stuff and supposedly they didn’t make very many of these, with some shmoe trying to sell this for a couple hundred on eBay not too long ago. My price is better—enjoy!

Powertrip – EP (1982)
Yet another fine release by everybody’s favorite label, Mystic Records, and I believe this might be one of the rarer ones or perhaps not. Seems like some of the Mystic stuff is easier to find than others. Personally, I’ve never seen this one before, until I came across it a couple months ago, although I knew about it from the track on Mystic Sampler Vol. 1. Released in 1982, it boasts of tracks from the “forthcoming album ‘When We Cut We Bleed’”, which did, in fact, come out a year or so later on a different label, with a different guitar player, recorded in a different studio, giving no thanks what-so-ever (at least on my 1987 copy) to the upright management at Mystic. Also of interest is the presence of Wurm guitar player, Ed Dankey, of whom I know basically nothing other than that tune on the second El Duce solo cassette, which is probably enough.

Lovegods In Leisure Suits – “Come Here Often?” LP (1988)
Meant to do this one a while ago and forgot about it. Having spent the bulk of my teenage years in a town that was pretty much stuck in the 70’s, I’m always surprised to hear of a place that was worse. So dudes were still carrying on like that in 1988? Really? At any rate, this band put the pick-up lines of all those polyester-clad clowns to shame by starting a band where they get to pen some songs rallying against sexism and the objectification of women. Now why the fuck didn’t I think of that? And here I just blew half my paycheck on a new mood ring! Wonder if any of those dudes ever grew up to experience divorce court. Aside from that, they manage some tunes that are of the caliber I seek to promote on this site, so have fun. It actually gets better with repeat listens.

Love Canal – “Its A Dogs Life So Blow It Out Your Ass” LP (1985)
I had actually picked this one out to post before I even started doing this blog then, upon finding out that it was to be reissued, decided it would conflict with the release and chose not to put it up. Well, the hills are not alive with the sound of Love Canal reissues and it looks like it never happened, so up it goes. So what’s to say? This was the music of my youth and would have ate this thing up had I owned it then but, instead, found it about eight years ago in some lame hipster record store that seemed to deal mostly in techno and emo crap. It looked like it had been sitting there for years, too, probably overlooked because of the cover art. Well, you know the drill, as this is good old-fashioned USA Hardcore Punk, just like your dear old grandpappy used to listen to, in vein of FU’s, RF7, and China White. Good stuff, made double good by the fact that I never had a chance to play it into the ground, so it still sounds fresh. On a collector geek note, this is on clear, canal water-colored vinyl—were they all like that?

Louis Farrakhan – “Let Us Unite” LP (1984)
Wow. I figured everybody and their Aunt Yahootie would have posted this one, but there seems to be little mention of it on the web. How odd. I’m surprised by how few people seem to know that Louis Farrakhan did, in fact, get his start as a musician, performing calypso music under the name “The Charmer” back in the 1950’s. At some point he was told that there were enough black performers and he became convinced that he would be more useful dedicating himself to the causes which we associate him with to this day, cutting a few interesting-looking 45’s in the 60’s (that I regretfully don’t own and have never heard) and not recording any records that I am aware of until this one in 1984. Anyways, if you’re hoping for a blood and guts racial tirade on this thing, you’re doomed to disappointment, I’m afraid. On the other hand, if its calypso music crossed with cheesy 1980’s elevator jazz that makes your ears bleed, then you’ve found Armageddon!
In all fairness, if you’ve never heard him speak before, this isn’t a good representation of the man. I’ve got a whole pile of cassettes from his radio show that he did in Chicago back in the 80’s and watched him on cable access TV countless times back in the day, so I’ll give him credit as being a good speaker, refreshingly blunt, and occasionally right on the money for whatever that’s worth. Regardless, after a couple of listens, you might figure out that the “Us” in the song is by no means all-inclusive!

Governors George and Lurleen Wallace – “Souvenir Album” LP (196?, 197?)
Here’s another one of those old relics I feel compelled to keep in circulation that may be of interest to some, but probably not to most, although there was a time when stating you were in favor of George Wallace would have left little doubt as to what kind of person you were. There’s plenty on the web about him but, briefly, he was probably the last serious Segregationist to have a shot at being president of the United States and, in fact, he was quite popular until his career came to a sudden end with a couple bullets in the gut, one of which paralyzed him and stuck him in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. Also of note is that he was a Democrat, as were most of the KKK and segregationist types back in those days. The fact that the two parties basically reversed (on the surface at least) in recent decades is covered in abundance on the web, so no need to go into it here other than to allow me to point out that anybody who believes there is any serious difference between the two big political parties in this country is completely mentally retarded. You’d probably have a better chance of fixing this country if you voted for Farrakhan!

Playboy Magazine – “Skank Or Die” Article (1985)
I’ve never been a big fan of Playboy or any of those sort of rags for that matter but, if I had to choose, I’d definitely identify myself as a Penthouse or Hustler man and doubt if I’ve ever wasted a dime on Playboy in my life. At any rate, I’m not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, either, so when one of my co-worker’s girlfriends made him get rid of his stash from the 70’s and 80’s, I figured there had to be at least something in the pile worth looking at. And there was—but really not that much, surprisingly.
I guess what always puzzled me about Playboy was exactly why any guy would bother with it in the first place. Even back before VCRs got popular, there were waaaay better publications where I guy could look at naked chicks and the bit about “reading it for the articles” just didn’t and doesn’t hold water with me. You can’t find a better publication than this to fill the intellectual void? Give me a break. Looking through that pile of old magazines, I doubt if I could count on the fingers of one hand the articles that were worth a shit and this thing sure as hell isn’t one of them! OK, I’ve read worse, but this 1985 expose on “Hardcore Punk” only managed to walk that fine line between boring me to tears and raising my blood pressure, never mind that the entire time I was reading it I was picturing it being read by some douche like THIS GUY. Anyways, as stated previously, I think there’s some value in churning up bits of history like this so some of you might find this interesting. Or not.
And I had to laugh at that picture I posted up above. I always thought the art on the inside the “Fuck Shit Up” EP by Useless Pieces of Shit was pretty funny, but here Playboy beat them to it by a couple years. Coincidence?

Let’s Die – LP (1985)
So I’ve decided to keep my word for a change and actually put up some stuff a week later like I said I would. A man needs to honor his commitments and it really tears me up inside when I’m not spending my precious free time giving away free shit to people who pay me absolutely nothing for my trouble. Ha! I kid and I’m always especially happy to be posting records like this. See that little skull in the lower left hand corner? Yep, it’s Mystic Records. See the date on this thing? Yep, it’s 1985 and I swear I was looking for a copy of this thing since at least 1986, almost thinking perhaps it was never actually released until I saw it posted elsewhere a couple years ago. Strange that this one is so hard to find, leading me to think not many were made and, of course, there may have been some sort of copyright shenanigans, as seems to be the case with Copulation.
Anyways, this is a great record and, if I can judge by the number of mumbling zombies and self-propelled stomachs I see stumbling around every time I go out in public these days, a pretty damn good idea for an ever-growing percentage of the population. Nothing but Grade “A” Mystic schlock and fun for the entire family from start to finish, and, no, that bumping sound you hear between songs isn’t a warp in the record, it’s supposed to be the sound of a human heart beating because this thing be, like, all scary an shit.

Burning Corvairs – 7″ (1982)
Yet another obscure piece of power poop and yet another disc with no record sleeve, insert, or periphery nonsense that would involve me spending more than $0.25 which, in my mind at least, will always be what this stuff is worth and I mean that with no disrespect! Hailing from Chicago, these guys deliver the standard early 80’s drill, with a bit more bite than some, but less than others. Decent stuff all in all. To each his own, but when I hear this sort of thing I’m always picturing the final credits of some early 80’s teen comedy motion picture or the scene where the girl goes to the big dance with the jerk/snob/bully while the hero from the wrong side of town sulks outside the auditorium drinking cheap booze, leaving one minute before the girl runs out the door crying. You saw that one, right? Kind of an odd band name, too—wasn’t it the Ford Pinto that kept burning up?

The Denims – “The Adler Sock” 7″ (196?)
Here’s another record in the vein of Cosmo and the Counts where some ad agency attempts to create both a hit song and a catchy jingle all in one shot and, like Cosmo and the Counts, the results are actually pretty good. Catchy, dumb, and memorable, I can’t think of a better way to tell the world about the phenomenon that was The Adler Sock for, as the old saying that I just made up goes, “The Sock Makes The Man”. Pretty ridiculous stuff, although back in those days they used to have the “sock hop” (look it up whippersnappers), so maybe having a snazzy-looking pair of socks was more of a big deal back then. At any rate, I seem to remember “doing the sock” a time or two when I was a kid, usually shortly after waking up by myself on a Saturday morning and realizing I was out of Kleenex.

From Britain With Beat – LP (196?)
So I’m not going to lie and will freely admit that this record pretty much completely blows and is basically a total waste of bandwidth. That’s the bad news. The good news is that the cover art on this thing is amazing and that alone makes this worthy of posting. I found this in a pile of junk a few months ago and find myself mesmerized and practically hypnotized every time I look at it. So what’s going on exactly? Either this is the work of the greatest X-Acto knife and airbrush wielder that ever lived (this is decades before people had desktop computers or Photoshop) or some guy was posting ads all over the country for a group of identical quadruplets (or possibly two sets of identical twins) to come into his studio and wear what appear to be dyed mop heads and pose for this piece of crap! Absolutely brilliant!
As for the record itself, this is one of those “grocery store” records, put out by the Modern Sound label which, unlike other grocery store labels, never did much anything of interest that I am aware of. Like the other Modern Sound releases that I’ve heard, this is nothing but cover tunes and really bad ones at that, attempting to cash in on the “British Invasion” craze that was going on at the time. To say these are second rate covers would be too kind—more like fifth rate.
As a side note, when I was trying to get my capture device to work last week, I was playing “I Want to Hold Your Hand” over and over again and it really sunk in just how silly a song that was and how far we’ve come (or gone) since then. Such innocence. “Can I hold your hand, baby? Geeze, this is too much– I think I’m gonna shoot!” And then you get to the part, “…..and when I touch you, I feel happy inside…..” Inside of what, buddy? Maybe this is filth after all.

Technical Difficulties
I’m not dead, yet, folks. But, apparently, my trusty audio capture device is. I’ll get a new one selected, along with a couple other upgrades and we’ll be back in business again shortly. As far as the blog goes, change is in the air and my mind just isn’t on this sort of thing at the moment. Sorry.
Anyways, speaking of change, I can’t resist taking a minute to toss out the question of is it me or does music exceptionally blow these days? Of course, I’ve been harping about it for decades, but I have a hard time picturing anybody except some young kid who doesn’t know any better getting much of anything out of what goes on in music these days. Black Flag? The Shaggs? Umpteen million washed-up karaoke hardcore and punk bands that saw their day decades ago, still putting on shows with maybe one original member—if even! People are actually amused by this shit? Even the Hippies had the courtesy of calling it quits when the gig was up, but I suppose something that was born with only a modicum of dignity can only be expected to die in a similar fashion. I won’t even start on the hipsters—it’s too easy. Am I missing something here? Too old, you say? Old enough to be bored and jaded and old enough to recognize trends that have been endlessly regurgitated and beaten into the ground, but not too old to know that I wouldn’t find any of this garbage interesting if I was a kid again. I didn’t have 35 years of punk and 60 years of rock and roll AT MY FINGERTIPS to sift through at the click of a mouse back then.
Well, rock and roll has hit the skids before, but this is an exceptionally unexceptional period to be sure and, while music is innately derivative, you’d think it would derive itself into something other than milquetoast hipster pabulum once in a while. And, yes, I realize I just misused the word “derive”, but this tirade doesn’t deserve proper grammar. Obviously, I’m not a kid anymore and could honestly give a shit one way or the other, but these are certainly interesting times and I tend to wonder if this stagnation is symptomatic of a general malaise that seems to be affecting everything these days. Any theories out there?
Whoppers Taste Good – “Haunting White Castle” 7″ EP (1989)
Not exactly a household name, but I assume some folks remember this St. Louis band. This was their second release and I believe the harder to find of the two EPs they did in the late 80’s, although I like the first one better. Anyways, I’ll give thumbs up for the witty artwork and the caveman Metal / Punk slop these guys churn out, but the lyrics are dumb as shit, even by my admittedly low standards. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Genocide – “Submit To Genocide” LP (1987)
Here’s one that I originally meant to post years ago and then chose not to, as I saw it had been posted elsewhere. Well, now is the time as I am not seeing it posted all over the place and it fits with the blog, never mind that it is one of my personal fave records and deserves more attention. Most folks probably remember these guys from the classic MIA / Genocide split LP in 1982 which is, indeed, a fine recording. They later put out a cassette that I never heard (a little help?) called “Reign Of Terror” and then this masterpiece in 1987. Apparently, the boys got a taste for Metal between their first release and this one and it seemed like a lot of Punk / HC guys pooh-poohed this LP for some reason. For shame. How can anyone be so wrong and live with themselves? Maybe they shouldn’t? Live with themselves that is, because this record has it all, from their Clockwork Orange-ish logo / armbands that appeared to have no real meaning other than that they looked cool, a more early 80’s-style Metal influence that stays away from the Slayer crap that a lot of crossover bands from were going with and, of course, these guys had the looks that killed. What’s not to love? Toss in the hilarious, offensive, juvenile lyrics and you have yourself a nice platter of dumbass, head-bobbing fun to which my poopy ears shall always bend. I haven’t seen a copy in the used bins for years, so maybe I wasn’t the only jerk who had a thing for this one?

Mentors – “Live At The 7th Street Entry 1994″ Bootleg (1994)
So here’s any easy enough post, seeing as I ripped this off about a year and a half ago from a blog that I can no longer seem to locate, nor can I locate this recording anywhere on the web. This must be remedied at once! All I have to say is that if the guy who originally recorded this is out there, you have my most humble thanks and eternal gratitude because this is, hands down, the most hilarious live Mentors recording I have ever heard and the sound quality is killer. You’re a fucking saint, pal, and your reward is in Sodom!
This was recorded during the last tour where I got to see the original lineup and, at that point, The Master was in pretty bad shape, no longer playing the drums, strictly doing vocal duties and poorly at that, forgetting the words or just drifting off and mumbling. This show is far superior to the one I witnessed on that tour as, if memory serves, he pretty much just sat on the edge of the stage for most of the show, beating his gut with the mic like a tom-tom, completely out of it. Here we find him much more animated, still fucking up the words to the songs, but delivering some hilarious drunken babble between songs that absolutely kills! What I wouldn’t give to be transported back to that club right now—you can tell it was a blast! I know I’ve harped about this before, but it is an endless source of aggravation to me that there are practically no bands or shows like this anymore. It has created a void in my life that longs to be filled! At any rate, this is some essential shit that no true Rape Rocker should be without—I was playing this thing in my car for months after I first got it and still keep it in reserve. I clipped a few choice snippets of dialogue below, but if you’re a fan you’d just better have clicked that download link by now—you need this!

The Fourth Reich – “The Communazis Exposed By Their Own Words” LP (1967)
Time for another Poopy history lesson. And you probably need it too, as I bet half the non-productive bullshit artists on this thing wound up worming their way into the “education” racket, drawing a salary at a liberal university near you. On this record we get to hear clips from the original Black Panthers, along with spokespeople from various socialist / communist organizations from the late 1960’s, showing them not as the hip, well-meaning revolutionaries that today’s media tries to spin them off as, but as useful idiots quoting and praising such champions of freedom, liberty, and human rights like Chairman Mao, the president of North Korea, the Viet Cong, and other fine role models for impressionable youth. Not that this record isn’t a biased piece of propaganda in itself, but it is tough to imagine any possible context in which the audio clips presented could sound anything but bad. An interesting peek at a piece of history that I suspect more than a few people would like to see disappeared down the memory hole.

Roger Hallmark and the Thrasher Brothers – ” A Message To Khomeini” 7″ (1979)
And so we find this thing, presumably addressing the Iran hostage crisis, and unlike the chumps in the post above, manages to demonstrate a sophisticated level of diplomacy and choice of wording that surely any one of our current crop of incompetent politicians could learn from. But I can’t give Mr. Hallmark all the credit, as the lyrics were apparently supplied by the owner of the local Putt-Putt miniature golf course. I have to assume the tongue was maybe a little in cheek on this one, but it begs the question of what these guys would actually say if they knew Khomeini was really going to hear the thing. I think we all know the answer to that.

F.U.2. – “The First Album By F.U.2.” (bootleg) LP (1978)
I meant to put this one up a while ago and then changed my mind, only to change it again last month and then not get around to doing it, so here it is. I won’t even start whining and apologizing for not posting and being busy. It is what it is. Never dealt with a situation like this before, nor has something so utterly not to my liking kept up this long without coming to a head. Bad times, folks.
Anyways, I know this has been put up elsewhere, but it kind of falls in with the theme of contrived and “fake” Punk bands I’ve been putting up since this blog’s inception and, like many bands of this nature, the results are pretty amusing. As some may already know, this band had its origins in a pre-Hippie, 1960’s band called Downliners Sect that, surprisingly, I’ve never listened to, although I’ve heard they were similar to early Stones, Pretty Things, etc. Anyway, they weren’t a household name and neither are these guys, although I find it criminal that they missed their calling as the opening band for Kuss! At any rate, the old dudes took a pretty decent stab, presenting us with a platter of head-bobbing, dumbass, Class of 1977 Punk standards, to which my ears tend to bend and I have to admit that their stupid theme song has been stuck in my head for months!

White Flag – “Skate Across America” LP (1989)
I believe I said something about putting up some White Flag? Hell, the man even gave permission before passing on. So what do we have here? White Flag and Mystic Records? Two great sounds that sound great together! The date on this record is 1989, but the live stuff was recorded in 1985 and it seems to me this one had a different cover at one time, a picture of a wrist being sliced with a razor blade, which I tried ordering from Mystic, only to have Mr. Moody pocket my cash and give me some other record instead. Why did I even bother? Because that label ruled, that’s why! Anyways, this thing has it all with a live set of Third Strike, Zero Hour, and “S” Is For Space tunes with Al Bum on vocals. Flip it over and you have some studio stuff with that Mystic Studios sound that we all love or should, then a bonus 7” with more live stuff and some funny banter. Love the bit where he is harping about all the toll roads on the east coast. No shit! And now you get some asshole cop with a laser scanner every two miles to boot.

White Flag – “Wild Kingdom” LP (1987)
If you already downloaded Zero Hour, you should notice this one has some of the same material, but it is a different album, straying more into pop territory with some weirdness mixed in. This is a great record, however, bought it when it came out, although I bet I haven’t played it since I was in my 20’s. The funny thing is when I pulled the record out THIS and THIS fell out of it. If memory serves, those shows were from 1988 or so. For some reason that place eventually quit putting on shows like that, although with all the well-behaved kids in that town, I can’t imagine why. The best track would have to be “Suicide King”, a nice poppy Punker with a hard edge and the usual great lyrics that Mr. Bartell seemed to effortlessly come up with. Seeing as Pat is on the “other side” now, I wonder if he got his wish.

Clyde – “Where The Radar Is / In Name Only” 7″ (195?, 196?)
Found this one a couple of weeks ago and nothing is jumping out at me, so up it goes. The A-Side is some very listenable Country / Rock crossover in the vein of the Country Hicks / Desperate Rock and Roll material, while the flip is more traditional C & W, but a good tune and worth a listen if you like old Country. The guy recorded under the name of “Clyde”, by which I can only assume he is some hillbilly relation to “Cher” or “Lobo”. My guess is that this is a later release than those Hicks / Desperate bands, most likely coming out after this sort of sound was considered “cool”. Or maybe not.

Sensuous Women and Men Together – LP (1971)
I guess it’s been a while since I’ve put up one of these. Actually, I think this one is pretty much the last of this series that is easy to find, while I am aware of other titles that turn up less often. I’ll get them.
So you know the drill, although the first thing that needs to be pointed out is that, like Midnight Cowpoke and Orgy Family, the title is very deceptive. Sensuous women and men? Try sensuous woman and man. But that aside, what we have here is a suspenseful, psychological thriller that explores the modern dynamics between a man and a woman, with mind-blowing philosophical dialogue and a series of unexpected plot twists that will have your ears glued to the speakers. There is also The Butt.

Another one I meant to post a long time ago and then forgot about. So it’s Richard and Willie and, if you’ve listened to the other stuff I’ve put up, you know what you are getting into. Pat Fear R.I.P.
Well, it appears Pat Fear from White Flag has gone into the great beyond.
No details, yet, but he probably got a look at his California state income taxes. And so goes another member of the old guard and another chunk of my dwindling interest in Punk Rock. He will be much missed.
I started doing some posts about a month ago and it has been one thing or another ever since, but I promise to get some new stuff up this weekend by hook or by crook and, yes, I’ll have some White Flag.
Canya Phuckem and Howe – “Sleeze Attack” LP (1980)
Well, happy 4th Anniversary to me, albeit a couple weeks late. Well, I remember exactly what I was doing when I started this thing four years ago and I don’t mind saying that things were a hell of a lot better in 2009 than they are right now and by “things” I mean things in general. Personally, I think the “collapse” we saw back then was merely a warm-up for what is to come. But enough of that. Actually, one positive economic indicator of late is that some company is actually interested in putting ads on this site. I’m not interested, but I’m halfway curious as to what the hell they’d want to advertise on this place. Justin Bieber?
So this record here is something of an oddity. In fact, I’d say it is quite queer. Yes, very queer, indeed. Even more queer than the Hollywood Harlots and those guys are gay as shit. But don’t let that scare you, because this thing is actually quite good, with a nice mixture of pop and Punk in the style you would expect from 1980, competently played with funny, perverted lyrics, covering such topics from fisting to water sports and various acts of faggotry. Pretty nasty stuff for the time, although now it would probably be what? Sex Ed for first graders?
As I’ve said before, anybody can grind this sort of thing out, but when you can throw it out with a degree of seriousness and enthusiasm, it tends to push it to a higher level. For the most part, it’s pretty entertaining stuff without a dud in the bunch, although I have to wonder if this would have come out three years later when AIDS became a household word. As a side note, there are a couple of tracks on this thing that kind of go over my head. The tune “Left Pocket, Right Pocket” is especially perplexing. You mean you had color codes for that shit? Seems like a lot of fuss and bother for a dick in the ass. Why not just use name tags? Not sure if I fully understand the cover art, either. Obviously, it’s a fist going up some guy’s ass, but what’s the thing shooting onto the fist? Yes, quite perplexing and quite queer, indeed.

P.T.L Klub – “Living Death II” 7″ EP (1987)
I guess it’s been a while since I’ve put up one of these—probably because it has been a while since I found one for an acceptable price. I generally refuse to pay “collectors prices” for anything and especially so for Mystic Records! I really don’t care what anybody has to say about it, but in my mind it will always be 1986 and these things are worth like $3-$7.00. I mean I love this stuff, but fuck those prices. Anyway, as far as Mystic goes, these guys weren’t your typical Mystic slop, mostly because they were from Massachusetts instead of the West Coast and they sounded more like Jerry’s Kids instead of the mid-tempo Punk /HC that Mystic tended to churn out. All the P.T.L Klub stuff sounded like this record if memory serves and it is all worth picking up if you can find it. The track “This Town Sucks” would have to be my personal fave, capturing a frame of mind I know many of us have felt at some point or other, present circumstances included in my case. And, if not, where the hell are you living?

V/A – “Saturday Night Pogo” LP (1978)
I’ve seen this shared a couple times, but my rip is better, s’there. Anyway, this is an early comp of “New Wave (before New Wave was a dirty word) Bands” from 1978 and it has some great stuff on it. Adding to the charm is that it came out on Rhino Records (their third ever release) which was pretty hit or miss (mostly the latter) as far as putting out cool shit was concerned, so they were in rare form on this one. And how did they get the guy from “Mindwarp” and “Evil Dead 2” to pose on the front cover? So there are a few household names on this one: Chainsaw (see post HERE), Mau Mau’s (AKA Berlin Brats), Dils, The Motels, etc. Personally, I really like the track by the band Backstage Pass and half the reason I’m posting this is to ask if anyone out there is aware of any other stuff from this session that was ever released. The song was later done by The Lovedolls and they even kind of sound like them, but I’m guessing there is no other connection or is there?

V/A – “499-2139″ LP (1979)
While I can understand why many don’t feel this way, I actually like finding records like this as, to my way of thinking, they tend to capture an era just as well if not better than the “good” records from the time. Here we see the posers, the “overnighters”, the “fly-by-nighters”, and the ambitious young chaps with stars in their eyes, aiming to please. There are some decent tracks on this thing, some that are so laughably bad they are almost good, and some real crap. I have samples of the first two classifiers below and I’ll leave the intrepid downloader to figure out what I mean by the last one. All of these bands appear to be from the UK or at least Europe.
I find the packaging of this LP to be somewhat interesting, as well. In the ad on the back they describe themselves as a “young, successful, name record company….,” but this appears to be their very first (and probably only) release. Basically, it appears their racket was to record your shit, publish it, and then not pay you for it. Sweet deal. I notice towards the bottom left corner they appear to be affiliated with Phonogram Records which, if it is the same label I’m thinking of, was one of those labels that would have generic artists do covers of Top 40 hits and package them like K-Tel records to be sold in grocery stores and the like. Or maybe not. This is a pretty bad record, but kind of fun at the same time—don’t say I didn’t warn you!

Richard And Willie – “Nasty And Naughty” LP (1971)
Seems like I might find one of these records about once a year, which reminds me that I found one about a year and a half ago that I meant to post and forgot about it–I’ll get to that. Why are they so hard to come by? Could it be because they are hilarious? They are! But maybe for the wrong reasons? Nah. At any rate, the humor on these discs holds up amazingly well, which is rare because most comedy records don’t. While the awesome cover art of “Funky Honkey, Nasty Nigger” still remains unchallenged, I find the subtlety of sticking their heads inside a set of tits to be pretty classy, as well. Good stuff, as always.
