Braveheart is a 1995 epic historical drama film directed by and starring Mel Gibson. The film was written for the screen and then novelized by Randall Wallace. Gibson portrays William Wallace, a 13th century Scottish warrior who gained recognition when he came to the forefront of the First War of Scottish Independence by opposing King Edward I of England (portrayed by Patrick McGoohan), who was also known by the nickname "Longshanks".
The film won five Academy Awards at the 68th Academy Awards, including the Academy Award for Best Picture and Best Director, and was nominated for an additional five.
In the 13th century, after several years of political unrest, Scotland is invaded and conquered by King Edward I of England (known as "Longshanks") (McGoohan).
Young William Wallace witnesses the treachery of Longshanks, survives the death of his father and brother, and is taken abroad by his uncle where he is educated. Years later, Longshanks grants his noblemen land and privileges in Scotland, including Primae Noctis, the right of the lord to take a newly married Scottish woman into his bed on the wedding night. When he returns home, Wallace (Gibson), intending to live peacefully, falls in love with his childhood sweetheart Murron MacClannough (McCormack), and they marry in secret so that she does not have to spend a night in the bed of the English lord.
Sir William Wallace (Medieval Gaelic: Uilliam Uallas; modern Scottish Gaelic: Uilleam Uallas; Latin: Guillelmum le Walois de Scotia militem; born c. 1272, died 23 August 1305) was a Scottish knight and landowner who became one of the main leaders during the Wars of Scottish Independence.
Along with Andrew Moray, Wallace defeated an English army at the Battle of Stirling Bridge in 1297, and was Guardian of Scotland, serving until his defeat at the Battle of Falkirk. In 1305, Wallace was captured in Robroyston near Glasgow and handed over to King Edward I of England, who had him hanged, drawn, and quartered for high treason and crimes against English civilians.
Since his death, Wallace has obtained an iconic status far beyond his homeland. He is the protagonist of the 15th century epic poem The Acts and Deeds of Sir William Wallace, Knight of Elderslie, by Blind Harry. Wallace is also the subject of literary works by Sir Walter Scott and Jane Porter and of the Academy Award winning epic film Braveheart.
James Roy Horner (born August 14, 1953) is an American composer, orchestrator, and conductor of orchestral and film music. He is noted for the integration of choral and electronic elements in many of his film scores, and for frequent use of Celtic musical elements. His score to the 1997 film Titanic remains the best selling orchestral film soundtrack of all time.
In addition, Horner has scored over 100 films, frequently collaborating with acclaimed directors such as James Cameron and Ron Howard. Some of his most noteworthy works include Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982), Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984), Cocoon (1985), An American Tail (1986), Aliens (1986), The Land Before Time (1988), Willow (1988), Glory (1989), Field of Dreams (1989), The Rocketeer (1991), Legends of the Fall (1994), Apollo 13 (1995), Braveheart (1995), The Mask of Zorro (1998), A Beautiful Mind (2001), Troy (2004), and Avatar (2009).
Horner has won two Academy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, three Satellite Awards, three Saturn Awards, and has been nominated for three BAFTA Awards. His body of work is also notable for including the scores to the two highest-grossing films of all time; Titanic (1997) and Avatar (2009), both of which were directed by James Cameron.
Plot
World War II: What if Nazis seized London and all of England had to band together? When scarily campy Nazi leaders invade by drilling under the English Channel and up through the cobblestones on Whitehall, Churchill leaves his quiet retirement with a cat that looks like Hitler to issue a call to arms from his bunker under Downing Street. Chris, a young farm worker with large hands, rallies the village to fight the good fight -- including an alcoholic Vicar, the oldest man in the town, several idiots, a random Frenchman and Bobby Fiske, a swearing American who believes he's battling Russia. The world's future is in their tiny plastic hands. Innovative puppeteering animatronics from Scottish brothers Edward and Rory McHenry combine with the larger than life voices of Ewan McGregor, Alan Cumming, Dominic West, Rosamund Pike, Tom Wilkinson, Timothy Spall and Richard E. Grant.

Braveheart
A flower that got brought by his lady Maud
He just didn't know then that the hand of a still child
Would become his wife in a pact of a secret marriage
Battles for love
Battles for justice
Fighting for freedom
Dying for his belief in love
And his name
Was William Wallace
As a tear drop from the princess face,
Carrying his child
His last words were freedom
With the deepest scar in the heart
In the full crowd his last sight was
Maud as a child
Battles for love
Battles for justice
Fighting for freedom
Dying for his belief in love
And his name
Was William Wallace
As a tear drop from the princess face,
Carrying his child
Galloping horses, shining swords
Living ghosts on an open battlefield
Betrayed by a friend - brought to suffer to death
He was born with a heart of a lion
He was born under the rising sun
His father was a great Indian brave
And so, that's how he got his name
Braveheart - He was a warriors son
Braveheart - Afraid of no one
Braveheart - He was born to rule
For his tribe, people and their land
He would seek and learn from his elders
As he grew to be a young brave man
By the day he would hunt and capture his prey
By night he'd call the spirits in the clouds
Braveheart - He was a warriors son
Braveheart - Afraid of no one
Braveheart - He was born to rule
For his tribe, people and their land

Braveheart - He was born to rule
For his tribe, people and their land
As he looked into the starry night
He could see the vision of his great old father
And the voices of wisdom he would hear
And his ancestors told him to stand against fear

For his tribe, people and their land

Every uphill battle and every betrayal
The fight in me remains
My willpower to win
My strength to survive

And that feeds my hunger
And ignites my passion to continue my journey

"I try to sleep with the shakes, but they keep me awake.
I am a son of sin with a heart of scars
Hiding in the shadows because the light reveals my flaw."
"I made you. I brought you into this world."
"I'm searching for the one place in this world
Where I can escape from your eyes."
"Don't ever think you can use my name to clear your own."
"I wake up sweating from sleep
Because it seems that dreams can be nightmares."
"I know you know.
Lie in the bed that you built
With your own two hands.
No greater shame has a man
Than laying down a friend's life for his own."
"I know that you know
That you threw it all away.
(The hero of our story, strong honourable,
a giant of a man, brother of the murdered king...)
A giant of a man was he
Hewn from wood and stone
With arms the crush
The life from you
And a sword that smites the bone
His quest in life
was honour bound
Believing in the faith
The mightiest of empires quaked
When Braveheart spake the words
Strike hard strike fast
Cut the rebels down
Strike hard strike fast
And the Duke will breathe his last
And all the peoples
Far and wide
They listened to his words
Defender of the souls was he
For vengeance he did thirst
The Duke had cast
His armies wide
His troops they never tired
Can nothing stop
His deadly hordes
Who storm through field and mire
Strike hard strike fast
Cut the rebels down
Strike hard strike fast
And the Duke will breathe his last
BRAVEHEART!
While Braveheart
Face the elements
Black magic filled the sky
And sweet Elenor by grave mistake
Lay dead by sorcerers fire
And I will turn
The world on you
Braveheart shouts from high
The mountains shake
The scene is set
For one of us will die!
Strike hard strike fast
Cut the rebels down
Strike hard strike fast
And the Duke will breathe his last
The flow of his loins is slain
His tears they burned the ground
The Duke will pay for evil deeds
When Savageland is free
Strike hard strike fast
Cut the rebels down
Strike hard strike fast
And they say, we carnivores
Savage
Been raised by wolves
No complaints
It made us us
No praise just breaks and hooks

So I will surrender
So I will surrender

[Intro: Movie Sample]
Beware the beast man for he is the devil's pawn
Alone among God's primates, he kills for sport or lust greed
Today he will murder his brother to possess his brother's land
Let him not breed in great numbers
for he will make a desert of his home and yours
Shun him for he is the avenger of death
[Chorus: Timbo King]
Yo, Braveheart, verbal courage, battle the seminar
Royal Fam Legacy, watch us travel far
Positive energy, always corrects errors, Royal Fam rulin this
Now and forever, what
Play your part braveheart, play your part braveheart
Play your part braveheart, play your part braveheart
[Timbo King - Royal Fam]
Orotorical, niggaz is metaphorical
My editorial breaks down your monuments historical
Geologists studying land, using the earth's crust
Measurements, eight elements, atomic weight plus density
Hi-Techs, science, thrustal gravity
Revolve around my oro, I'm the soul that keeps spinning, what
Supernova, black quasar, my mental radar picks up
Frequencies way beyond the earth's equator
Forver glow, electro, magnetic force field
Thoughts build, we bomb for real, 36 still exists
Golden fist, your caught up in the devil's mist
Fire war, royal sire laws, revealing this
Protons, electrons, atoms cause explosions
My center of atraction, I'm the nucleus, you're frozen
My square be complete, architectual, visual
The sound spectrum strikes the mental then the physical
My perimeter damns your diameter
Bar codes are scanned from America to Canada
What, from America to Canada
This one is dedicated to all the bravehearts!
I was kicking for a team of blue angels
Entering gates of burning hell
Walking through the purgatory
Facing all the sorrow
How many aces does death hold in its hands?
This goes out to the bravehearts
Depending on the call
Running into a rain of fire
Or sticking our hands in a bloodbath
Smelling sweat or breath of death
Our hearts will never calm down
This goes out to the bravehearts
Now farewell, we have to go
There is a braveheart in each and one of you
I believe this is true
There is a braveheart in each and one of you
Closing my mouth
before I scream
No-one cane shake
my self-esteem
Whisper my name
confuse my mind
To me it's the same
if I'll survive
This game you can't win
Who is free from sin
I won't be afraid
My soul will remain
Go on and sleep
the sleep of the just
If your conscience is clean
do what you must
One day you will know
I was a friend, not foe
I won't be afraid
My soul will remain
Let go of your hate
I won't be afraid
I won'r be afraid
My soul will remain
let go of your hate
I won't be afraid, oh no...
