Nutcracker: Money, Madness, Murder (2)
Nutcracker: Money, Madness, Murder (2)
Frances meets the father of her children. TRIVIA: NBC's "Nutcracker" wasn't the only miniseries about Frances Schreuder's reign of terror. CBS also bought an option to develop a miniseries about this real life story based on a second book written about it. Both networks decided to go ahead with their respective projects regardless of the competition. For this reason, CBS aired "At Mother's Request" (Starring Stefanie Powers as Frances) in January 1987. NBC premiered "The Nutcracker" two months later.

The Bradshaws hope Frances' marriage may end their troubles with her. TRIVIA: Actress Lee Remick, whom the critics praised for giving a truly outstanding performance as Frances Schreuder, said many actors find something positive about the villains they play, but she could not find one redeeming quality in her character. Despite that, she was said to have been very excited about playing this role, which won her an Emmy nomination in 1987.

Nutcracker: Money, Madness, Murder (4)
The Bradshaws are upset about Frances' scandalous divorce. Also, Frances meets Richard (John Glover). TRIVIA: "Nutcracker: Money, Madness, Murder" was based upon Shana Alexander's same-titled book about New York socialite Frances Schreuder and her Utah murder trial. The author also wrote a book about another imprisoned murderess, Jean Harris, who killed her lover - a famed cardiologist. That book was titled "Very Much a Lady." NBC, which bought rights to both books, sent a copy of "Nutcracker" to Harris because Lee Remick was originally supposed to play her, too. The project was however shelved until 2005 when it was finally produced for HBO with Anette Bening in the main role.
