Do Insects Rule the World? Insects Documentary (National Geographic)
Insects Documentary National Geographic - Insect wars: Social insects (ants, bees, termites) building an empire. We claim dominium over the Earth... But what happen below our feet? Earth´s original empire still reigns.
There are more types of named insects (more than 750,000) than all other named creatures combined. There are more than 300,000 named beetles alone. And these numbers are conservative. Wikipedia gives even larger figures for these statements.
Insects have been here far longer than we humans have, and as far as they are concerned, we share their planet with them and not the other way around. The total mass of all ants alone among the insects living on Earth is greater than the total mass of all the humans living on Earth. And insects live in more environments (and in more hostile environments) on Earth than humans do. Who rules the world? With facts like these, is there any doubt that insects do?
