The leaders of all five countries bordering the Caspian Sea signed a series of joint co-operation agreements at the fourth Caspian Summit in Astrakhan on Monday. Some of the conventions signed include co-operation in the field of hydrometerology, sustainable use of marine biological resources, and resolution of emergency situations.
The presidents of Russia, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, and Turkmenistan were all there to represent their countries, and after the summit they held a press conference. Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the preparation of a convention on the legal status of the Caspian sea was a "substantive result."
