Gayatri
Gayatri
Gayatri (Sanskrit: गायत्री, gāyatrī) is the feminine form of gāyatra, a Sanskrit word for a song or a hymn, having a Vedic meter of 3 padas or lines of 8 syllables. In particular it refers to the Gayatri mantra, and the Hindu goddess Gayatri as that mantra personified. Gayatri is typically portrayed as seated on a red lotus, signifying wealth. She appears in either of these forms: • Having five heads with the ten eyes looking in the eight directions plus the earth and sky, and ten arms holding all the weapons of Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu & Lord Brahma. • Accompanied by a white swan, holding a book to portray knowledge in one hand and a cure in the other, as the goddess of Education. • She is an aspect of Mata Saraswati, Mata Lakshmi & Mata Parvati, all three in one form, a form of Adi Shakti, possessing the Rajasi Guna and hence is the source of Brahma's power. Without her, Brahma remains dormant or unable to create The Gayatri Mantra is a highly revered mantra in Hinduism, second only to the mantra Om. It consists of the prefix :oṃ bhūr bhuvaḥ svaḥ ॐ भूर्भुवस्वः, a formula taken from the Yajurveda, and the verse 3.62.10 of the Rigveda (which is an example of the Gayatri mantra). Since all the other three Vedas contain much material rearranged from the Rig Veda, the Gayatri mantra is found in all the four Vedas. The deva invoked in this mantra is Savitr, and hence the mantra is also called Sāvitrī. By many Hindus, the Gayatri is seen as a Divine awakening of the mind and soul, and within it a way to reach the most Supreme form of existence, and the way to Union with Brahman. Understanding, and purely loving the essence of the Gayatri Mantra is seen by many to be one, if not the most powerful ways to attain God. • A complete transliteration without diacritical marks om bhoor bhuva suvah tat savitur vareNyam bhargo devasya dheemahi dhiyo yo nah prachodayaat Source: Wikipedia.- published: 02 Sep 2013

YOGANJALISARAM - http://kalakendra.com/yoganjalisaram Yogi T Krishnamacharya, was also an accomplished Sanskrit scholar and poet. He composed numerous poems, hymns and commentaries in Sanskrit. He had the background of extensive studies in diverse areas of Vedic traditions and philosophy. He had unshakeable faith in his family's tutelary deity, Lord Hayagrva, the God of Knowledge, and the grace of the divine endowed him with the ability to write and compose spontaneously in Kannada, Telugu and Sanskrit with great erudition. Every composition had an occasion behind it, some with intention and some at the request of his disciples. One such literary work is Yoganjalisaram, which Krishnamacharya composed on the lines of the famous poem, Bhaja Govindam of Adi Shankaracarya, in a meter easy for recitation and memorisation. Like Bhaja Govindam, this composition aims at providing teaching for the welfare of humanity at large, with special focus on Yoga and its importance. The composition, in essence (saram) praises (anjali) Yoga for its contribution in providing physical and mental health and exposes the belief system of the author. It will be evident that his devotion to Lord Narayana along with His consort, Goddess Laksmi forms a major part of this composition, which according to him is both the means and end of Yoga. Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram in collaboration with Swathi Soft Solutions takes great pride in bringing out this revised edition of T Krishnamacharya's Yogjalisaram, based on the original translation of TKV Desikachar. At appropriate junctures, certain additional comments, based on studies with TKV Desikachar, have been inserted to clarify to the reader certain points of significance made by the author of the text. www.kym.org- published: 13 Sep 2013
