Knowing about rip current
Knowing about rip current
A rip current, commonly referred to simply as a rip, or by the misnomer rip tide, is a strong channel of water flowing seaward from near the shore, typically through the surf line.[1] Typical flow is at 0.5 metres per second (1--2 feet per second), and can be as fast as 2.5 metres per second (8 feet per second), which is faster than any human swimmer. They can move to different locations on a beach break, up to tens of metres (a few hundred feet) a day. They can occur at any beach with breaking waves, including oceans, seas, and large lakes.- published: 30 Oct 2013

Rescue From The Rip Current
Rescue From The Rip Current
This couple swims out from a North Shore, Oahu beach on a fairly big day (for wading). They get caught is a rip current and need to be assisted by the life guards. The funny thing is there were a bunch of life guards running maneuvers on jet skis on site. There was one point where they almost ran over this couple as they struggled. Kudos to the responding life guard who paddled out, and the surfers who gave their assistance as well. This takes place between Chun's Reef and Jocko's.- published: 08 Aug 2013
