Australian people, or simply Australians, are the citizens of Australia. Australia is a multi-ethnic nation, and therefore the term "Australian" is not a racial identifier. Aside from the Indigenous Australian population, nearly all Australians or their ancestors immigrated within the past 230 years. Colloquial names used to refer to Australians include Aussies, and Antipodeans.
The mainstream Australian culture (occasionally defined as the Anglo-Celtic culture), is a Western culture largely derived from the traditions of Western European migrants beginning with the early settlers from England, Scotland, and Ireland. The populations of Sydney, Melbourne and the other major cities are different from the demographics of rural Australia as a result of the differing migration patterns.

The earliest accepted timeline for the first arrivals of indigenous Australians to the continent of Australia places this human migration to at least 40,000 years ago most probably from the islands of Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.

David William Donald Cameron (pronunciation: /ˈkæmərən/; born 9 October 1966) is the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, First Lord of the Treasury, Minister for the Civil Service and Leader of the Conservative Party. He represents Witney as its Member of Parliament (MP).
Cameron studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) at Oxford, gaining a first class honours degree. He then joined the Conservative Research Department and became Special Adviser to Norman Lamont, and then to Michael Howard. He was Director of Corporate Affairs at Carlton Communications for seven years.
He was defeated in his first candidacy for Parliament at Stafford in 1997, but was elected in 2001 as the Member of Parliament for the Oxfordshire constituency of Witney. He was promoted to the Opposition front bench two years later, and rose rapidly to become head of policy co-ordination during the 2005 general election campaign. With a public image of a youthful, moderate candidate who would appeal to young voters, he won the Conservative leadership election in 2005.

Kylie Ann Minogue, OBE (
/ˈkaɪliː mɨˈnoʊɡ/; born 28 May 1968) — often known simply as Kylie — is an Australian singer, recording artist, songwriter, showgirl, and actress. After beginning her career as a child actress on Australian television, she achieved recognition through her role in the television soap opera Neighbours, before commencing her career as a recording artist in 1987. Her first single, "Locomotion", spent seven weeks at number one on the Australian singles chart and became the highest selling single of the decade. This led to a contract with songwriters and producers Stock, Aitken & Waterman. Her debut album, Kylie (1988), and the single "I Should Be So Lucky", each reached number one in the United Kingdom, and over the next two years, her first 13 singles reached the British top ten. Her debut film, The Delinquents (1989) was a box-office hit in Australia and the UK, and received generally positive reviews.
Initially presented as a "girl next door", Minogue attempted to convey a more mature style in her music and public image. Her singles were well received, but after four albums her record sales were declining, and she left Stock, Aitken & Waterman in 1992 to establish herself as an independent performer. Her next single, "Confide in Me", reached number one in Australia and was a hit in several European countries in 1994, and a duet with Nick Cave, "Where the Wild Roses Grow", brought Minogue a greater degree of artistic credibility. Drawing inspiration from a range of musical styles and artists, Minogue took creative control over the songwriting for her next album, Impossible Princess (1997). It failed to attract strong reviews or sales in the UK, but was successful in Australia.

The bill will allow refugees to live and work in Australia for three to five years, but denies them permanent protection. It was passed by 34 votes to 32 after intense debate in a late-night sitting. The Australian senate has approved changes to immigration laws that include reintroducing controversial temporary visas for refugees.
The bill will allow refugees to live and work in Australia for three to five years, but denies them permanent protection.
It was passed by 34 votes to 32 after intense debate in a late-night sitting.
Australia currently detains all asylum seekers who arrive by boat, holding them in offshore processing camps.
It says that those found to be refugees will not be permanently resettled in Australia, under tough new policies aimed at ending the flow of boats.
It also has a backlog of cases - about 30,000 - relating to asylum seekers who arrived before the current policies were put in place. Those people live in detention camps or in the community under bridging visas that do not allow them to work.
To secure enough support in parliament to pass the bill, the government made concessions. Children will be freed from detention on Christmas Island, an offshore camp where conditions have been strongly criticised.
The number of confirmed refugees Australia will agree to accommodate will rise by 7,500, from the current level of 13,750, by 2018 (reversing an earlier cut). Asylum seekers on bridging visas will be allowed to work while their claims for refugee status are processed.
The bill becomes law on Friday when it is passed by the House of Representatives, where the government has a majority.
Prime Minister Tony Abbott described the move as "a win for Australia".
"We always said that three things were necessary to stop the boats - offshore processing, turning boats around and temporary protection visas, and last night the final piece of policy was put in place," he said.
Temporary visas were originally introduced under former Prime Minister John Howard but were criticised by rights groups and the UN for failing to meet Australia's obligations as a signatory to UN Refugee Conventions.
While refugees can live and work for a temporary period in Australia, the government can deport them to their country of origin after this period if it deems conditions there have improved.

Greetings comrades! I hope you're all excitedly stringing up tinsel and basking in the wondrous glow of fairy lights in preparation for CHRISTMAS!!! I did however have some frustration to vent before I could enjoy the holiday completely- frustration mainly focused on how crummy a summer Christmas is in comparison to the delightful winter Christmas picture I have in my head. Hope you enjoy it, and I'll see y'all in the new year!! xx For anyone interested, the chords and lyrics! Capo 4 Verse: G C G D / G C D G Chorus: C G D G / C G D G (I think- I'm not completely sure, I'll have to check) The snowflakes are falling, and the fire is calling And the smell of gingerbread is filling the air And eggnog or tea is all that you need And the hand-crafted stockings are hung up with care The stories and days are filled with snowmen and sleighs And the warm Christmas jumper that fills you with cheer You sit back and be glad and think "Life's not so bad" Coz you're not one of the suckers in the southern hemisphere Coz while you're snowball fighting, we're down here slowly dying From thunderstorms or heatstroke, with sweat in our eyes And it gets hard to hear wishes of Christmas cheer When the air and your ears Are bombarded with flies If it's not so damn hot that your face is melting off (And from the humidity you cannot hide) Then the thunderstorms wail and are blowing a gale And you'll get pelted with hail if you dare go outside You think Christmas is white? Well the air con and melting ice cream are the only white things I'll ever find And the kid with the pool is the coolest in school Until the gallons of chlorine turns everyone blind Coz while you're snowball fighting, we're down here slowly dying From thunderstorms or heatstroke, with sweat in our eyes And it gets hard to hear wishes of Christmas cheer When the air and your ears Are bombarded with flies The beach is no fun when you've got a sun That's not filtered by an o-zone layer and burns you to a crisp The sand whips your legs and sun-screen comes out in dregs And with all of the blue-bottles, it's not worth the risk And though it is true, I love a barbecue So do all of the mozzies and ants on the lawn And the poisonous snakes, well they don't take a break Just coz thousands of years ago some kid was born Coz while you're snowball fighting, we're down here slowly dying From thunderstorms or heatstroke, with sweat in our eyes And it gets hard to hear wishes of Christmas cheer When the air and your ears Are bombarded with flies But don't get me wrong, when Christmas comes along We still celebrate, we're grateful for being alive... No that's it, that's literally why, we're just glad we've survived Another year without getting poisoned or stung or bitten or drowned or eaten alive Coz while you're snowball fighting, we're down here slowly dying From thunderstorms or heatstroke, with sweat in our eyes And it gets hard to hear wishes of Christmas cheer When the air and your ears Are bombarded with flies I do love Christmas, but it's hard I confess When your skin is as burnt as the holly is red Please forgive all our jeering at your Christmas cheering It's because this whole bloody country... PLEASE SUBSCRIBE NOW The Australian senate has approved changes to immigration laws that include reintroducing controversial temporary visas for refugees. The bill will allow refugees to live and work in Australia for three to five years, but denies them permanent protection. It was passed by 34 votes to 32 after intense debate in a late-night sitting. Australia currently detains all asylum seekers who arrive by boat, holding them in offshore processing camps. It says that those found to be refugees will not be permanently resettled in Australia, under tough new policies aimed at ending the flow of boats. It also has a backlog of cases - about 30,000 - relating to asylum seekers who arrived before the current policies were put in place. Those people live in detention camps or in the community under bridging visas that do not allow them to work. To secure enough support in parliament to pass the bill, the government made concessions. Children will be freed from detention on Christmas Island, an offshore camp where conditions have been strongly criticised. The number of confirmed refugees Australia will agree to accommodate will rise by 7,500, from the current level of 13,750, by 2018 (reversing an earlier cut). Asylum seekers on bridging visas will be allowed to work while their claims for refugee status are processed. The bill becomes law on Friday when it is passed by the House of Representatives, where the government has a majority. Prime Minister Tony Abbott described the move as "a win for Australia". "We always said that three things were necessary to stop the boats - offshore processing, turning boats around and temporary protection visas, and last night the final piece of policy was put in place," he said. Temporary visas were originally introduced under former Prime Minister John Howard but were criticised by rights groups and the UN for failing to meet Australia's obligations as a signatory to UN Refugee Conventions. While refugees can live and work for a temporary period in Australia, the government can deport them to their country of origin after this period if it deems conditions there have improved.
