This video IS VERY ADVANCED. It's intended for those well-versed in social justice, who can understand college-level discourse.
This video unpacks problems with the prevailing discourse between gay and bi people re: biphobia, and analyzes heterosexism from a bisexual POV, positing that, though monosexual privilege does NOT exist, biphobia and bi-erasure is integral to heteronormativity, gay people have had an investment in perpetuating biphobia, bi people face unique problems, and that we should unite to tackle biphobia and the heterornormative framework. I go into history of sexuality and a little queer theory to explain why biphobia is a problem and why gay and bi people should have an investment in dismantling it.

8) Note on the concept of sodomite: the concept technically was invented in the old testament of the Bible, which would have been written a couple thousand years before the birth of christ. The Jewish people created laws against man sleeping with man. However, these were religious practices founded due to a concern via: waste of sperm. This is why Onanism (i,e masturbation) was forbidden. The Jewish people were a small people and hoped to procreate. (Source: http://www.amazon.com/Bisexuality-Ancient-World-Eva-Cantarella/dp/0300093020) They were certainly homophobic in many ways, but did not institutionalize through law opposition to same-gender sexuality.
I'd argue that the legal/institutionalized concept of sodomite did not exist until Christianized Rome and not until the laws were made and enforced (as Byrne Fone argues in his book) in 544 AD. In my opinion, this is the beginning of homophobia as an institutionalized oppression. Although, as i talk about in this video, the nature of this oppression has shifted and changed a lot over the last 1,400 years. 11) I apologize for the confusion around psychological/biological homosexual. I didn't realize until after I made the video, that an early user of the term meant it in a biological/medical way (and the original person who coined it was probably homosexual and meant it in neither a strictly medical or psychological sense). Ironically, the term was first coined and championed by a homosexual rights activist, but was perverted by psychologistss at the time who turned it into a psychological illness. And although a couple physicians early on posited homosexuality as biological/congenital (one even seemed to conflate the two by saying it was congenital but recommending psychological treatment), I would argue that the biological homosexual wouldn't become a real social concept until a lot later--because the prevailing discourse was built around the psychological homosexual for the next century or so.
