The much-awaited Lumding-Silchar broad gauge project will be completed by March 2015, according to Northeast Frontier Railways (NFR) authorities. Railway officials said security reasons have delayed the project from early completion. The officials said 90.59 per cent of work has been completed at a cost of Rs 5,185.44 crore. "Hopefully, it will be completed by March, 2015. It took a bit more time due to various reasons, including its geographical locations and law and order problems. The project became technically challenging because of the hilly terrains, sharp curves and steep gradients, Several workers have lost their lives for working under unfavourable conditions. Poor road conditions and less number of working days due to rainfall are our major concerns. The NFR authorities will complete the remaining work by undertaking mega block for six months from October 1, 2014. This will stop existing metre gauge train services for the period as tracks would have to be dismantled at 102 locations.

HB Chord was a section that I have meaning to visit for quite some time and last month only I had the opportunity to go there!! While the section is undoubtedly famous for high priority trains blasting through every station on this section, we happened to observe some intercity type trains of very short length rushing to their destinations at an appreciable pace!! This compilation includes three such trains captured at Belmuri [BMAE]. All were diesel hauled and were doing MPS!! So sit back and rotate that volume knob to the max to let your neighbour know that you are a railfan!! Thanks for Watching!! Don't forget to Subscribe!!

Road Metro Station. The Delhi Metro (DMRC) is a Rapid Transit serving Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida & Ghaziabad in the NCR (National Capital Region) of India. The construction work of the Delhi Metro started in 1998 after being planned in 1984 by the Delhi Development Authority, and the Urban Arts Commission. Operation began in December 24, 2002, starting with the Red Line, followed by the Yellow Line in 2004, Blue Line in 2005, the Green & Violet Lines in 2010, and the Delhi Airport Metro Express in 2011. The Metro has 6 lines, Red Line (Dilshad Garden - Rithala), Yellow Line (Jahangir Puri - HUDA City Centre), Blue Line (NOIDA City Centre - Vaishali), Green Line (Kirti Nagar - Ashok Park Main), Violet Line (Central Secretariat - Badarpur), & Airport Express (New Delhi - Dwarka Sector 21). The Airport Express line has introduced a feature called Wi-Fi services at each station along the route on January 13, 2012. As of September 2013, there are 141 stations, including 6 stations on the Airport Express line (35 underground, 5 at grade level, and rest at elevated level), system length of 190.0 km (118.1 mi), Daily Ridership of 2.06 million, Track gauge of 1,676 mm (5 ft. 6 in) broad gauge, 1,435 mm (4 ft. 8.5 in) standard gauge, & Electrification of 23 kV, 50 Hz AC through overhead catenary. There will be a total of 68 eight coach trains (37 on the Jahangir Puri - HUDA City Center line, and 31 on the Dwarka - NOIDA City Centre/Vaishali line) by 2015. During peak hours, trains are between an interval of 2 min 30 seconds. Connectivity inside metro trains travelling on the route is expected in the future. The Wi-Fi service is provided by The YOU Broadband & Cable India Limited. This service makes Delhi Metro the second metro in India to provide Wi-Fi services to passengers after the Namma Metro in Bangalore. A fully automated, operator less train system had been offered to Delhi Metro by the French defense and civilian technologies major Thales. The system is expected to use Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) in Phase III. Delhi Metro is also certified by the United Nations as the first Metro Rail & rail based system in the world to get "carbon credits for reducing greenhouse gas emissions" & helping in reducing pollution levels in the city by 630,000 tons (630g) each year. It is expected that by 2016, the Delhi Metro network will be 295km (184.4 mi), making it one of the fastest and reliable expanding Metro networks in the world carrying approximately 4 million ( 40 lakh) passengers. Phase IV is has a deadline of 2021, and it would include further extensions towards Sonia Vihar, Reola, Khanpur, Palam, Najafgarh, Narela, Ghazipur, Noida Sector 62. The Gurgaon Metro, which has a deadline of 2013, will also interchange with Delhi Metro at Sikandarpur station on Yellow Line. The Ghaziabad Development Authority plans to extend Delhi Metro lines deeper into Ghaziabad through the Blue Line extension from Vaishali to Mehrauli via Indirapuram. This is one of the most adventurous, scenic , most beautiful and the most riskiest Meter Gauge Rail Road of the Indian Railways - North East Frontier Zone located in the Indian State of Assam. This was one the terrains which I wanted to explore since ages and luck finally struck me when its high time for the section to undergo Broad Gauge Conversion . Never the late I made it . The video will justify why is this section is known as the most beautiful stretch, how ever what is so risky about this Section ? There are two kinds of risk that one can encounter in this section. The first one being frequent Land slides which can leave your train stranded in the midst of the dense forests for several hours or even days until restoration. The terrain receives the highest rain fall round the year. The road connectivity is very poor and is not easily accessible from the Rail route. The second one being a major risk with the presence of local insurgent - terrorist groups living deep inside the forests who often tend to harm the travelers and Railway authorities . There have been several instances from the recent past that these activist groups have opened fire at a approaching train, brutally killing people on board the train for valuables and money, kidnapping the Security Personnel's , bomb blasts on moving trains, blowing off Railway tracks , vandalizing railway property and many more such devastating incidents . This is one of the main reasons why the tourists fear to explore this dangerous section . With extreme risk surrounding this corridor, I still dared to take a chance to explore this section . The most daring and the thrilling part of this trip was Foot plating all alone on the YDM-4 Locomotive in the dense forests and ghats sections. I bet this journey was the most memorable & thrilling one I've ever had in my life so far. The video is shot on board the Lumdning - Silchar - Lumding Barak Valley Express. The video covers the scenic spots from River Dyang , Haflong hill, Jatinga ,Harangajao & Barak River. Hope you enjoy the North East.

The Times of India 2015-03-07Broad-gauge railways use a track gauge (distance between the rails) greater than the standard gauge of 1,435 mm (4 ft 8 1⁄2 in).
In Britain the Great Western Railway, designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, pioneered broad gauge from 1838 with a gauge of 7 ft 0 1⁄4 in (2,140 mm), and retained this gauge until 1892. A number of harbours also used railways of this gauge for construction and maintenance. These included Portland Harbour and Holyhead Breakwater, which used a locomotive for working sidings. As it was not connected to the national network, this broad-gauge operation continued until the locomotive wore out in 1913.
It became apparent that standardization on a single gauge throughout a rail transport system was advantageous. Rolling stock did not need to match the gauge exactly; a difference of a few millimeters could be coped with, so that interoperability on systems with gauges only slightly different was possible.
While the parliament of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland was initially prepared to authorise lines built to the broad gauge of 7 ft 0 1⁄4 in (2,140 mm), it was eventually rejected by the Gauge Commission in favour of all railways in the British Isles being built to standard gauge of 1,435 mm (4 ft 8 1⁄2 in), this being the gauge with the highest route-mileage. Ireland, using the same criteria, was allocated a different standard gauge, Irish gauge. Broad-gauge lines in Britain were gradually converted to dual gauge or standard gauge from 1864, and finally the last of Brunel's broad gauge was converted over a single weekend in 1892.
