JAIPUR: With an aim to encourage institutional deliveries in rural areas, the health department has decided to give incentives to the doctors on work basis.

The health department would give incentives on the basis of more work.

Health minister Rajendra Rathore in a meeting with health department officials said that they would give incentives to doctors in rural areas on every child births. But, they have also imposed a rider on it.

He said that the primary health centres (PHC) which will conduct at least 30 deliveries (child births) will be eligible for the incentives. The health department fixed Rs 500 as incentive for doctors per child birth in the PHC. Likewise, the auxiliary nurse midwife at the sub centre will get Rs 150 per child birth. But, the condition is that at least seven child births should take place at the sub centre per month. She will get the incentives for every child birth after seven. If she conducts 10 deliveries, she will get incentives on three deliveries.

Moreover, the department has announced incentives for doctors who perform caesarian deliveries at community health centres. The health department announced Rs 3,000 for every birth through caesarian delivery.

Moreover, the health department has planned to give Rs15.21 crore as incentives to doctors who will perform their duties in 10 high-focus districts of the state. The health department officials said that they would start giving incentives to the doctors as per the norms and scheme from December.

The incentives were announced by the health department with an aim to improve the health indicators including maternal mortality ratio (MMR) and infant mortality rate (IMR) in the state. The 10 districts are identified as high-focus districts because of their not so good health indicators. The health department expects that the incentives to the doctors would help them in improving the health indicators as it would encourage the doctors to perform more effectively.

The 10 districts are - Barmer, Jaisalmer, Jalore, Udaipur, Rajsamand, Banswara, Dungarpur, Bundi, Dholpur and Karauli.
