SpaceX reaches orbit with Falcon 1 - Flight 4 (full video including Elon Musk statement)
SpaceX is the only private company to ever reach earth orbit with their Falcon 1 rocket. This is the FULL 40 minute webcast from about T-10 minutes until well after SECO. We didn't want to cut out the chorus of cheering after the SpaceX crew realized that they had just made history!
While Scaled Composites did reach space twice and thus winning the Ansari X PRIZE, they did not actually reach orbit. The Falcon 1 with its simulated payload is the first private vehicle to reach orbit on Sunday September 28th, 2008 at 23:31 UTC.

4th flight of SpaceX Falcon 1 rocket, 28 September 2008 - first ever private orbital launch
[video: SpaceX / text wikipedia, link below ]
The fourth flight of the Falcon 1 rocket successfully flew on 28 September 2008, delivering a 165-kilogram (363-pound) non-functional boilerplate spacecraft into low Earth orbit. It was Falcon 1's first successful launch and the first successful orbital launch of any privately funded and developed, liquid-propelled carrier rocket.
The launch occurred from Omelek Island, part of the Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands.[58] Liftoff occurred at 23:15 UTC on 28 September 15 minutes into a 5-hour launch window. If the launch had been scrubbed, it could have been conducted during the same window until 1 October.[59] 9 minutes 31 seconds after launch, the second-stage engine shut down, after the vehicle reached orbit.[58] The initial orbit was ...

If the launch had been scrubbed, it could have been conducted during the same window until 1 October.[59] 9 minutes 31 seconds after launch, the second-stage engine shut down, after the vehicle reached orbit.[58] The initial orbit was reported to be about 330 × 650 km.[57] Following a coast period, the second stage restarted and performed a successful second burn, resulting in a final orbit of 621 × 643 km × 9.35°.
The rocket followed the same trajectory as the previous flight, which failed to place the Trailblazer, NanoSail-D, PRESat and Celestis Explorers spacecraft into orbit. No major changes were made to the rocket, other than increasing the time between first-stage burnout and second-stage separation. This minor change addressed the failure seen on the previous flight, recontact between the first and second stages, by dissipating residual thrust in the first-stage engine before separating them

*****About this video:
In late 2018, I was curious to see the first launches of SpaceX. I heard the first three launches were failures, but I couldn't find a compilation on Youtube, so I set out to make a compilation that I would like to see; something set to classical music fitting of the technological achievement. Musically in particular, the middle of Tchaicovsky's waltz, Capriccio Italien, always struck me as suitable for 2001: A Space Odyssey, so I was very excited to use it for this video. Capriccio Italien seemed to sync perfectly. Mozart's famous Magic Flute carries the video to a 2nd act, both joyful and emotional. It took me three months to make this video, starting from not knowing how to use Final Cut Pro at all, and working on it every night, beginning in early 2019. Making this video was like a calling. For me, SpaceX is a beacon of engineering persistence, forward thinking, and entrepreneurial risk-taking at its finest. I hope you enjoy this video and watch it whenever you need to be lifted up!
