Following repeated delays due to concerns about contaminated soil, the new fish market is expected to open in November 2016. The new home, close to the Olympic Village to be built for Tokyo’s 2020 Olympics, will house a bigger fish market with a shopping mall format. Prices of bluefin tuna had been rising in recent years with global stocks dwindling amid increasing consumer demand for the delicacy.
