Glazov

Glazov (Russian: Глазов; IPA: [ˈɡlazəf]; Udmurt: Глаз, Glaz) is a town in the Udmurt Republic, Russia, located along the Trans-Siberian Railway. Population: 95,854 (2010 Census); 100,894 (2002 Census); 104,072 (1989 Census).

History

It was first mentioned in the 17th century chronicles as a village; town status was granted to it in 1780. During the Russian Civil War, the town was of considerable military importance. It was taken by Kolchak's general Anatoly Pepelyayev on June 2, 1919.

Administrative and municipal status

Within the framework of administrative divisions, Glazov serves as the administrative center of Glazovsky District, even though it is not a part of it. As an administrative division, it is incorporated separately as the town of republic significance of Glazov—an administrative unit with the status equal to that of the districts. As a municipal division, the town of republic significance of Glazov is incorporated as Glazov Urban Okrug.

Economy

The town is known for Chepetsk Mechanical Works, Russian main producer of uranium, zirconium, and calcium metals for nuclear power plants, military, and space technologies. Apart from machine-building, there are wood-working, clothing, and food industries.

Jamie Glazov

Jamie Glazov (born Yakov Glazov, Russian: Яков Глазов; August 19, 1966) is a Canadian columnist. He is the managing editor of FrontPage Magazine, the online publication founded by David Horowitz. He specializes in Soviet Studies, and US and Canadian foreign policy. Nowadays he runs a Web TV talkshow called "The Glazov Gang"

Life and career

Glazov's father, Yuri Glazov, was a Soviet dissident during the Leonid Brezhnev period, and signed the Letter of Twelve, denouncing alleged Soviet human rights abuses. His mother, Marina Glazova, was also an active dissident, typing and circulating Samizdat, underground political literature. Glazov's father took the risk of applying for a visa to exit the USSR. Avoiding imprisonment, Yuri Glazov and his family left the USSR in 1972 and settled in Halifax, in 1975, when Jamie was nine.

Glazov earned his bachelor's degree in political science from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1988. Glazov later earned his MA from Dalhousie in 1990 and PhD in History from York University in 1997. He used to write the "Dr. Progressive" column at The American Partisan.

Station chief

A station chief is a government official who is the head of a team, post or function usually in a foreign country. Historically it commonly referred to the head of a defensible structure such as an ambassador's residence or colonial outpost. In Germany a Stationsleiter (station leader) was the government's chief representative in a colonial possession such as the South Sea Islands. It may also be used to refer to the manager of remote scientific stations such as those in the Antarctic and Jarvis Island, an uninhabited minor U.S. Pacific island possession.

The Station Chief, also called Chief of Station, is the top U.S. Central Intelligence Agency official stationed in a foreign country who manages all CIA operations in that country, equivalent to a KGB Resident. The station chief is often a senior U.S. intelligence officer who represents the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) in his or her respective foreign government, whose true name is known to the host nation and other intelligence agencies. Former officers are not usually allowed to include their position as a station chief in their résumé even after their covers have been lifted.

Jordan Peterson

Jordan B. Peterson (b. 1962) is a tenured research and clinical PhD psychologist who currently teaches at the University of Toronto. His research interests include self-deception, mythology, religion, narrative, neuroscience, personality, deception, creativity, intelligence and motivation.

Personal life

Jordan Peterson has a B.A. in Political Science and a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Alberta. He received his PhD in clinical psychology from McGill University. He taught at Harvard University as an Assistant and an Associate Professor before returning to Canada and taking a position at the University of Toronto. Peterson currently resides in Toronto. He grew up in Fairview, Alberta, Canada, a small town of 3000 people 360 miles northwest of Edmonton, Alberta. He resided in Montreal from 1985–1993, where he studied under the supervision of Robert O. Pihl and Maurice Dongier. From 1993–1998 he lived in Arlington, Massachusetts, while teaching and conducting research at Harvard. He has resided in Toronto since 1998.
