Marine biology is the scientific study of organisms in the ocean or other marine or brackish bodies of water. Given that in biology many phyla, families and genera have some species that live in the sea and others that live on land, marine biology classifies species based on the environment rather than on taxonomy. Marine biology differs from marine ecology as marine ecology is focused on how organisms interact with each other and the environment, and biology is the study of the organisms themselves.
Marine life is a vast resource, providing food, medicine, and raw materials, in addition to helping to support recreation and tourism all over the world. At a fundamental level, marine life helps determine the very nature of our planet. Marine organisms contribute significantly to the oxygen cycle, and are involved in the regulation of the Earth's climate.Shorelines are in part shaped and protected by marine life, and some marine organisms even help create new land.
Marine biology covers a great deal, from the microscopic, including most zooplankton and phytoplankton to the huge cetaceans (whales) which reach up to a reported 30 meters (98 feet) in length.

Plot
A real adventure film - but in a very modern sense. On a three-mast schooner aboard with artists, scientists and ambitions worthy of Noah or Columbus, we set off towards the end of the world: in this case, the rapidly melting ice massifs in North-East Greenland. An epic journey where the brave sailors get acquainted with imaginary tent pitches, polar bear nightmares and entirely new species. But in their encounter with the new, unknown parts of our world, the crew - which ranges from the artists Tal R and Daniel Richter to the geologist Minik Rosing - addresses a number of questions of a fundamental, existential nature. Curiosity, great pathos and a liberating splash of humor come together in a film that is superbly orchestrated by the cinematic talent Daniel Dencik, who in one iconic image after another seduces us both far beyond and deep into the historical footnote that is humanity. A film that is both conceived and brought into life on a large scale, just like an old childhood dream realized in adult company.
Plot
This 'found-footage' film is set in 2009 in the town of Chesapeake Bay in Maryland where something has infected the water there. But it's not 100% known what it is or how it is transmitted. But when people start turning up dead and others start to do strange things, fear turns to panic and the town is shut down. The Government confiscate all video footage from every source possible. The Government didn't want you to see this. This is that footage which is put together by a news reporter who was there.

Panic feeds on fear.
Plot
Sought by explorers for centuries as a possible trade route, Canada's Northwest Passage was first navigated by Norwegian Roald Amundsen in 1903-1906, a true polar explorer. Amundsen was the first man to reach the South Pole as well. Until 2009, the Arctic pack ice prevented regular marine passage throughout most of the year, but climate change has reduced the pack ice, and this Arctic shrinkage has made the waterways more navigable. Mark Terry's latest polar adventure explores the Passage on a three-week scientific expedition taking place on the aptly named icebreaker, the Amundsen. Studying the effects of climate change in this Arctic region, in general, and discovering new life on the ocean seabed and other previously inaccessible areas of the Arctic seas, in particular, is the focus of this one-hour HD documentary. This historic journey, featuring the work of many of the world's foremost polar scientists, is the highlight of a film that also compares and contrasts these findings with the latest studies being conducted at the other end of the earth - Antarctica. New scientific discoveries being made related to climate change this year in Antarctica are included to provide a unique comparison of current climate change research at both ends of the earth. In addition to showing how warmer temperatures are affecting the speed of melting glaciers, icebergs, pack ice and floes, an examination of the drastically changing eco-systems in both areas is presented. The film and its findings were invited by the United Nations Environment Programme to present to delegates attending COP16, the Climate Change Conference in Cancun in December, 2010. Will this film influence policy-makers and result in a new resolution being adopted? This question is answered in the film's dramatic conclusion.
How Melting Ice in the Polar Regions Will Affect Us All
Winner... Eats... All!
Dick Ritchie: Emma, wait.::Emma MacNeil: You're not my boss anymore, Dick. Thanks for sticking up for me back there!::Dick Ritchie: Emma, you're a good surveyist. You just need a little displine, that's all.::Emma MacNeil: You made me an example just to remove me from your team. Now, stay the hell away from me and let me try to rebuild my life that you just ruined.::Dick Ritchie: Before you walk away, do you want some advice?::Emma MacNeil: Nope.::Dick Ritchie: [as Emma walks away] Don't love the ocean too much, it doesn't love you back.
US Destroyer Captain: When we find the beast, we're sending him to hell.
Allan Baxter: Now if we don't find the bible means of stopping this fucker, sharkzilla is gonna own the seas.
Lamar Sanders: Those guys have been frozen in ice for millions of years. Wouldn't you be a little horny?
Emma MacNeil: Thrilla in Manila.
Allan Baxter: This is unacceptable. I want that commander on report.::US Sub Captain: That commander just saved your ass.::Allan Baxter: Should have done so in a more timely manner.
[Condor Airlines 747 experiences some turbulence while at 30,000 feet in the air. As a female passenger is advised by a flight attendant to put her seatback up, her fiancé is jolted by the sudden change in turbulence and he gets up]::Nervous Air Passenger: Whoa!::Flight Attendent: Please sit down, sir. It's just an air pocket. Thank you.::Nervous Air Passenger: We're getting married in two days.::Flight Attendent: You'll be fine.::Airline Captain: [On the intercom] All right, folks, please fasten your seat belts.::[as the 747 flies through the clouds, the male passenger suddenly looks out the window]::Nervous Air Passenger: Holy shit!::[the Megalodon jumps up from the sea to catch the 747]
Allan Baxter: [to Emma] And you little lady, you've got a lot of mouth from someone who's career is all washed up. Sleeping on your old Prof's couch. What's next, a little extra credit?::Lamar Sanders: Hey!::Allan Baxter: Cool it hombre.
Seiji Shimada: How are you holding up under pressure?::Emma MacNeil: It's not easy being brilliant under armed guard::Seiji Shimada: From what I know you're no stranger to pressure. Joyriding in an experimental sub in an ice floe seems kind of tense.::Emma MacNeil: Yeah well, I was always drawn to the water. Always felt like a part of it.::Seiji Shimada: Me too.::Emma MacNeil: It didn't matter how rough or stormy or how big the waves were, they never scared me.::Seiji Shimada: Me too. My family were all fisherman, lived on the water, lived [meaningful pause] *because* of the water. They all wanted me to follow in their footsteps.::Emma MacNeil: Why didn't you?::Seiji Shimada: Too much death. I saw a dolphin caught in the net when I was a kid I couldn't free it. The panic in it's eyes. The helplessness. That was it.::Emma MacNeil: I never got past putting the worm on the hook. [Seiji laughs and then they kiss] I'm going to go take a walk. [look of confusion on Seiji's face] You know a-a *walk* [Emma walks out] . [Seiji - slow look of realisation and follows her]
Allan Baxter: Listen, screw these environmentalists. When I give the order shoot to kill!
A Global Warning
Geophysicist: Pine Island Glacier is adding 46 gigatons of fresh water into the world's seas every year.
Marine Ecologist and Penguin Scientist: We're too late, by 20 years.
Narrator: I'm standing here in beautiful Neko Harbour, the temperature today is a balmy 8 degrees and, to me, that seems like a good temperature for a swim.
The Captain: Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled...::Maxie: Peckers!
Plot
Nick Darke, who comes from a long line of beachcombers ("wreckers", to use the Cornish term), traces the origins of all the items that he has discovered during one stormy winter while beachcombing along the coast of Cornwall near his home. Some of the objects have come from as far away as Labrador or the Amazon Basin.
[Nick has found a strange flat silver disc about the size of a dinner plate and is asking local people to try to identify it. Most people have no idea, but Ed Schliffke sounds as if he knows exactly what it is]::Nick Darke: I've been asking everyone what this is.::Ed Schliffke - Wrecker: Do you know?::Nick Darke: I honestly don't know. I haven't got a clue.::Ed Schliffke - Wrecker: [sounding very knowledgeable] Right. These are quite old - about ten years old - they don't make them any more now. And what it is... there's a special chemical solution that used to be in there. It's not in there now - it's leaked out somewhere. And what it is... when it goes down to a certain depth, it activates. And if you look at this here, the little criss-cross thing, on the end that's broken off, it's got a little pincher. And it activates that, grabs the fish, comes up, puts it on there and cooks it. [chuckling as he reveals that he's been making it all up] I don't bloody know!::Nick Darke: [laughs uproariously, realizing that he's been very gullible]::Ed Schliffke - Wrecker: I've never seen anything like it in my life.
Plot
Seth Warner has reached the end of his rope. Ever since his wife died two years earlier, his world has been in turmoil. He is despondent, his career has fallen apart, even his house has been destroyed. There seems to be nothing left for him to live for. Confused and angry after two years of suffering, he finally directs his wrath at God from the rooftop of his apartment building in New York City. In the midst of a wild thunderstorm he demands to know why he has been betrayed by the god he has believed in and honored his whole life. God's answer is to strike down Seth's dog in a bolt of lightning. Pushed beyond his limits, Seth decides to respond to his years of torment by breaking each of the biblical Ten Commandments. While staying with his sister-in-law, Rachel, much to the chagrin of her shifty reporter husband, Harry, he systematically sets out to break each commandment one by one. A natural at breaking commandments, Harry is drawn to Seth's mission in the hopes of using it to further his career, but ultimately they clash as Seth turns the table and uses Harry to fulfill some of his missions. Things get further complicated when Rachel and Seth are romantically drawn to each other as he struggles with his crisis of faith and she struggles with a failing marriage. Inevitably, Seth comes down to the last and most important commandment, Thou shall not kill. In a climactic battle of will and redemption, Seth, Harry and Rachel cross paths with a raging hurricane at the far end of Long Island. Echoing Seth's first confrontation with God, the sky and the sea open up in this fateful encounter at the Montauk Lighthouse. Individually, each confronts forces beyond human control and more importantly, must come to an understanding of their own life choices and decisions. The resolution to the story for all characters is surprising, mystical and ultimately just.

A comedy that breaks the rules.
He's getting even... by breaking all the rules.
Rudy: Who among us knows the way of the Lord?::Seth: I have a theory. He's a raving psychotic.
Harry Lucia: I break 5 or 6 commandments every day before lunch.
Seth Warner: I am not crazy. I know the difference between bad luck and divine inspiration.
Gordon Bloom: The story has it all - death, sex, and God.
Rachel Lucia: Am I a commandment to be broken?::Seth Warner: Yes.::Rachel Lucia: Is that all?::Seth Warner: No.
Gordon Bloom: For the record, if you were murdered, how would that make you feel?
Seth: I am not crazy! I know the difference between bad luck and the Divine Hand. Harry, if your shoelace breaks once, fine. Twice, tough. Three times? Hell, change the brand. But if your shoelace breaks every day for two years it's time to check your Bible!
Seth: I have a question to put to the congregation, if you don't mind, Rabbi. Is God willing to prevent evil, but just not able? Then, he can't be omnipotent, right. Or is he able, but not willing? Then he must be malevolent. Or, is he neither able nor willing? In which case, why do we call him "God"? Why indeed? Why?
