Canada ( /ˈkænədə/) is a North American country consisting of ten provinces and three territories. Located in the northern part of the continent, it extends from the Atlantic Ocean in the east to the Pacific Ocean in the west, and northward into the Arctic Ocean. Spanning over 9,900,000 km2 (3,800,000 sq mi), Canada is the world's second-largest country by total area, and its common border with the United States is the longest land border in the world.
The land that is now Canada has been inhabited for millennia by various Aboriginal peoples. Beginning in the late 15th century, British and French colonial expeditions explored, and later settled, along the region's Atlantic coast. France ceded nearly all of its colonies in North America in 1763 after the Seven Years' War. In 1867, with the union of three British North American colonies through Confederation, Canada was formed as a federal dominion of four provinces. This began an accretion of provinces and territories and a process of increasing autonomy; the Canada Act 1982 severed the vestiges of legal dependence on Britain.
A train pulls in off the street
Soft and low like a mother's heartbeat
I've been trying to get my mind off me
But I'm more self conscious than I've ever been
By the time
You get this
I'll be long gone
God's my witness
It's all there in black and white
It's just the story of my life
Well, you get it or you don't
You're the only one I've ever told
By the time
You get this
I'll be long gone
God's my witness
To keep living
When I know I'm,
not forgiven
Still it comes, still it comes
There's nothing else I could've done
Not with the cards they've given me
Do you think you'll ever forgive me?
By the time
You get this
I'll be long gone
God's my witness
It's so hard
to keep living
when I know I'm
not forgiven
I'm forgiven
I'm forgiven
I'm forgiven
Down in the valley, somebody's getting ready for a kill
And on the street the marching feet send echoes thru the chill
And I'm tryin' my best to get drunk, because I am unable
To entertain the thought of being sober, and the truth is painful
The light was gone
I heard a song
Come drifting from the park
And round a fire, a drunken choir
Sang softly in the dark
And for a while I felt secure
Like Jesus in the cradle
But I know, I've always known
The truth is painful
The word came round you been found, face-down on a street
And so I went to pay respect, and watch your mother weep
She cried so hard she almost died, I turned away and I was grateful
I was glad it wasn't me, and the truth is painful
I was glad it wasn't me, an' the truth is painful
But the truth will set you free
The truth is painful
The truth is painful
The truth is painful
The truth is painful
All them cowboys are old men
Longing for a mission once again
Gambling everything, boys we were fearless
Well we had the right stuff then
We were brothers bound together
Sharing every victory and pain
Never will there be such good companions
We'll never see that right stuff again
(chorus)
So farewell, my friends
Till we meet again
In some bar where angels fear to tread
Some have already gone
But it won't be long
Till we're all together again
Time is such a strange arrangement
You think you have too much and then it's gone
But I know this world will keep on turning
When you and me have slipped this mortal coil
(chorus x 2)
Jimmy I've got it now
I'd rather be dead
Than take what I'm given
Or eat what I'm fed
Well I can't help myself
Sometimes it's true
But nothing came easy
for me or for you
[Chorus]
You'll be a long time in the grave
And you can't live in the past
Let's lay down to rest
All the ghosts of Belfast
I've got my reasons
I've got my pride
My glass is half full
But it's cracked on the side
I wish I could take back
The things that I said
Never mind there's better times
Just up ahead
[Chorus]
Maybe I've learned enough
Maybe I can reach
I wish I could practice
The things that I preach
It's hard to get on now
I've taken a belt
The hardest of all
Is to live with yourself
Stay here with me
Let me buy a drink
You're so beautiful
You know I'm right on the brink
Well I can't love you
The way you want me to
Just another fool
Who's taking you to
The back room
If I had any sense
I'd be on my way
You're so beautiful
I just have to stay
But I can't love you
The way you want me to
Just another fool
Who's taking you to
The back room
So tell me your tale
How things came to be
And I'll tell you mine
What happened to me
But I can't love you
The way you want me to
Just another fool
Who's taking you to
The back room
Just another fool
Falling for you
Blessed are the poor
Well that's alright, then
Baby you and me
Are goin' straight to heaven
I know I give it all away
No argument
I know I give it all away
Well I had no sense
When I was streetwise, streetwise
Nothin' you don't know
When you're streetwise.
Down on the lane
Expecting a fight
Getting high on the hill
Every single night
When we were streetwise, streetwise.0
Nothin' you don't know
When you're streetwise, streetwise
Nothin' you don't know
When you're streetwise, streetwise
Well it don't mean a thing
Out here in the world, in the real world
'Cos things don't work
The way they used to work
When we were streetwise, streetwise.
Nothin' you don't know when you're streetwise
Streetwise, streetwise
When you're streetwise, streetwise
Nothin' you don't know when you're streetwise
This situation
Just goes right around
You wind me up
And you run me down
You're in my face
Everytime I turn around
You're on my case
With that same old sound
I want my money and I want my money now
I want my money and I want my money now
You'll get it in the morning
There's thing I gotta do
You're not the only
One I'm owing to
You're still at my door
Every night and every day
I know what they're here for
I know what they say
I want my money and I want my money now
I want my money and I want my money now
I want my money and I want my money now
I want my money and I want my money now
Solo
I want my money and I want my money now
I want my money and I want my money now
I want my money and I want my money now
I want my money and I want my money now
(Fading)
I'll tell my mom when I get home
Shout all you want
It doesn't matter
Don't you know that
I am mostly water
Seventy percent
Don't worry about the rent
The rest of me is finding it harder
Why are you always realistic?
Why do you always go ballistic?
The little things go wrong
We're here and then we're gone
You go on and on
Come on, come on, come one, now
Shout all you want
It doesn't matter
Don't you know that
I am mostly water
Seventy per cent
Don't worry about the rent
The rest of me is finding it harder
This could be my last day I'm too young
There'll be thousands more just like this one
The little things go wrong
You just go on and on
We're here and then we're gone
Come on, come on, come one, now
Shout all you want
It doesn't matter
Don't you know that
I am mostly water
Shout all you want
It doesn't matter
Don't you know that
I can feel my heart
And it's fit to burst
I try to clean it up
But I just get worse
Wish I could fall
On a night like this
Into your lovin' arms
For a moonlight kiss
I thought I saw your face
In the evenin' sky
On a lonesome cloud
That was driftin' by
I wish I could fall
On a night like this
Into your lovin' arms
For a moonlight kiss
You got someone else
Maybe it's for the best
Since I took the cure
For happiness
And I'd trade it all
On a night like this
For your lovin' arms
And a moonlight kiss
For your lovin' arms
And a moonlight kiss
Lovin' arms
And a moonlight kiss
Mama, tell me,
Where did I go wrong?
Mama, tell me,
Where do I belong?
Don't know what it is that people see
And every night I walk a lonely street
Do you love me?
Or am I just hanging on?
Do you love me?
Or all those feelings all gone?
Don't know what it is I'm supposed to be
Every night I walk a lonely street
Well it's always gonna be this way
And I don't really, really don't want to stay
Don't know if it's you
Or if it's me...
And every night I walk a lonely street
I sang "Danny Boy"
Out of the window
I don't know the words
I was making them up
Stepping outside
Feel the sun shining
I can't deny
I'm falling in love
I told them your name
Said where you come from
See you again
That kind of stuff
Told them your name
But I never told them
I never said
I'm falling in love
Chorus
Falling in love
Falling in love
Feels like my heart
Has been struck by lightning
You're in my head
It's you I'm dreaming of
Better come clean
Have to tell someone
I have to tell someone
I'm falling in love
Falling in love
I'm falling in love
Falling in love
I'm falling in love
Falling in love
I'm falling in love
Falling in love
I'm falling in love
Falling in love
Falling in love
Nothing is heavier
In the universe
Than the human heart
Still suffering
For an ancient sin
We all played our part
Nothing is stronger
In the universe
Than the human heart
Outside the gates
Trying to push our way in
Before it gets too dark
(chorus)
Howl on, Howl on
Till the pain is gone
Howl on, Howl on, Howl on
Nothing is lonelier
In the universe
Than the human heart
Left to ponder
A lifetime without love
Each time it falls apart
(chorus)
Nothing is greater
In the universe
Than the human heart
To rise above
The sorrowful earth
The agony and the hurt
One two, one, two, three, four
You know how to hurt me baby
Oh yes you do
You know how to hurt baby
Oh yes you do
I've got to get out of this house
before I hurt you
I got my guitar in my hand
And I'm walking out that door
I got my guitar in my hand
And I'm walking out that door
Well I don't know where I'm going
I just know I have to go
I don't need no company
I want to be alone
I don't need no company
I want to be on my own
You know I feel just like a child
Who doesn't have a home
You how to hurt me baby
Oh yes you do
You know how to hurt me
On yes you do
I've got to get out of this house
before I hurt you
Slide solo
You how to hurt me baby
Oh yes you do
You know how to hurt
They took Hank Williams to the moon
They took Hank Williams to the moon
Well it seems to me
Instead of world war three
They took Hank Williams to the moon
Elvis was a cold war soldier boy
Elvis was a cold war soldier boy
One dark American night he saw that Russian satellite
Elvis was a cold war soldier boy
You better get it right John Kennedy
You better get it right John Kennedy
Cos if you get it wrong they're gonna drop the atom bomb
You better get it right John Kennedy
Jim Lovell steely eyed missile man
Jim Lovell steely eyed missile man
They sent him all that way
Still on Navy pay
Jim Lovell steely eyed missile man
They took Hank Williams to the moon
They took Hank Williams to the moon
Well it seems to me
Instead of world war three
I know you're in there somewhere
and it's plain to see,
You're unhappy
and the last thing on your mind is me.
But when we kissed (oh yeah)
for the very first time (oh yeah)
Was I in your movie or were you in mine?
Baby it's alright ...
it's alright, Baby (x2)
There's a bitter moon
shining down tonight,
we can't call this love
if all we do is fight.
But when we kissed (oh yeah)
for the very first time (oh yeah)
Was I in your movie or were you in mine?
Baby it's alright ...
it's alright, Baby (x2)
(You gotta let her know, you gotta tell her so)
One, two, one, two, three, four
Everybody calls her angel, she's no stranger to the devil, I know
There's markings on her body, there's fires burning her soul
When we're making love he's laughing at us down below
She's the devil I know
She's the devil, I know
She's the devil, I know
Says she comes from heaven
Angel is the devil, I know
She's the devil, I know
Now she's the kind of woman keep you coming back for more
She's got the kind of face you swear you've seen someplace before
Coulda been your momma, coulda been a Mexican whore
She's the devil I know
She's the devil, I know
She's the devil, I know
Says she comes from heaven
Angel is the devil, I know
She's the devil, I know
Now she'll drag me straight to hell, I can tell, I think I'll just go
The devil said to her to deliver me body and soul
And every inch she drags me down I'm closer to the glow
She's the devil, I know
She's the devil, I know
She's the devil, I know
Says she comes from heaven
Angel is the devil, I know
She's the devil, I know
She's the devil, I know
She's the devil, I know
Says she comes from heaven
Angel is the devil, I know
I can hear them talking
From a million miles
They talk like cowboys
And I close my eyes
And slip into a dream
I wish that I could see
(Chorus)
America, America, America
I don't like my voice
And my clothes don't fit
And my gun belt hangs
On my skinny hips
And all I want to do
Is to be like you
(Chorus)
This town's in trouble
But up there somewhere
Heroes are returning
Safely to the earth
And falling back into
Mama, tell me,
Where did I go wrong?
Mama, tell me,
Where do I belong?
Don't know what it is that people see
And every night I walk a lonely street
Do you love me?
Or am I just hanging on?
Do you love me?
Or all those feelings all gone?
Don't know what it is I'm supposed to be
Every night I walk a lonely street
Well it's always gonna be this way
And I don't really, really don't want to stay
Don't know if it's you
Or if it's me...
And every night I walk a lonely street
When I first met you I was ready to
Give up this life of drinking and a bummin
But all my promises
Are a long time a'comin
Well look at us, sitting on this bus
We're still poor, we're still struggling
Waiting for that lucky break
But it's a long time a'comin
Up in the blue beyond, above the great divide
Everything can't be wrong
Somebody must be getting it right
Well I'm still me, and I'll never be
A slave to any man or woman
Someday you'll be proud of me
But it's a long time a comin
A long time a'comin
What can I tell you,
I was a just a kid
I've no idea,
why I did the things I did
If I have one regret it's her
Though I pretend that I don't care
You don't love her
The way I love you
You don't love her the way I do
When I saw her,
I forgot the years
All those pointless,
arguments and tears
And as far as I can see
You've been worse for her than me
You don't love her
The way I love you
You don't love her the way I do
You don't love her
The way I love you
You don't love her, she loves you
I did the things I chose to do
My plans did not include her too
I'm back in town, I just got free
You're standing there instead of me
You don't love her
The way I love you
You don't love her the way I do
You don't love her
The way I love you
You don't love her, she loves you
You don't love her
The way I love you
You don't love her the way I do
You don't love her
The way I love you
All those good times on Franklin road
All those love songs that I wrote
That made you cry
You said you had something in your eye
Good times good times on Franklin Road
Tonight the lone star is aglow
And it's the only star I know
So high up and so far
I can see it from this bar
Shinin' down on Franklin Road
Good times on Franklin road
Just this one and then I'll go
And they'll all be
Glad to see me
Glad to see me back on Franklin Road
I'm going back to Franklin Road
