Eating a tarantula must have been my most memorable experience on this tour, never have I ever been this afraid to eat something, not even my Korean Octopus Adventure comes close. It tasted like burned shrimp but even more tasteless, the best thing this street vendor had to offer were grilled snake and mealworms but make sure to chase it with a cold tasty beer.
Besides eating tarantulas, we could choose lots of other bizarre items ranging from frogs, cockroaches and scorpions to entire geckos. Shinsekai is a must-see district in Osaka, if not for its for food, definitely for its unique atmosphere and beautiful store decorations.
The most mysterious place on this tour is Osaka's red light district known as Tobita Shinchi where you can witness beautiful Japanese girls trying to lure Japanese businessmen into their little shop. The district consists out of 3 major streets, first street houses girls in their 20's, second street women in their 30's and third street 40's and up. Another interesting area the tour visits is Kamagasaki where the homeless population of Osaka hangs out. It is quite eye-opening to see the state of housing in these ghettos, a site usual tourists will never see of Japan. This entire district goes by the name: Nishinari, primarily run by the Yakuza, Japan's maffia organization.
To get to Osaka from Tokyo, I highly recommend you purchase the Unlimited Japan Rail Pass which let's you travel Japan for either 7, 14 or 21 days on the Shinkansen bullet trains which run at 320 km/hr.

Jōtō-ku, Osaka
Jōtō-ku (城東区, Jōtō-ku) is one of the 24 wards of Osaka, Japan. "Jōtō" means "east of the castle", referring to Osaka Castle. It was separated from Higashinari and Asahi in 1943, and separated from Tsurumi in 1974.

Osaka
Osaka (大阪市, Ōsaka-shi) (Japanese pronunciation: [oːsaka]; 
listen ) is a designated city in the Kansai region of Japan. It is the capital city of Osaka Prefecture and the largest component of the Keihanshin Metropolitan Area, the second largest metropolitan area in Japan and among the largest in the world with over 19 million inhabitants. Situated at the mouth of the Yodo River on Osaka Bay, Osaka is the second largest city by the daytime population after Tokyo's 23 wards and the third largest city by the nighttime population after Tokyo's 23 special wards and Yokohama in Japan, serving as a major economic hub.
Historically a merchant city, Osaka has also been known as the "nation's kitchen" (天下の台所, tenka no daidokoro) and served as a center for the rice trade during the Edo period.
History
Prehistory to the Kofun period
Some of the earliest signs of human habitation in the Osaka area at the Morinomiya ruins (森ノ宮遺跡, Morinomiya iseki) comprise shell mounds, sea oysters and buried human skeletons from the 5th–6th centuries BC. It is believed that what is today the Uehonmachi area consisted of a peninsular land with an inland sea in the east. During the Yayoi period, permanent habitation on the plains grew as rice farming became popular.

Osaka (album)
Osaka is the only album put out by The Kickovers. It was released on April 23, 2002 on the Fenway Recordings record label.
Some promotional copies of Osaka went out with the band's original name, The Brakes. Shortly after, they had to change their name because of a New York band called The Break.
The album includes one cover, "Hanging on the Telephone", which was originally performed by The Nerves, although a cover of it by Blondie was more popular. "The Good Life" is also the name of a Weezer song, so some fans may have expected it to be a cover, especially since bassist Mikey Welsh was a member of Weezer prior to The Kickovers. Although not a member, Dave Aarnoff of The Shods performed bass on several tracks of the album.

Eating a tarantula must have been my most memorable experience on this tour, never have I ever been this afraid to eat something, not even my Korean Octopus Adventure comes close. It tasted like burned shrimp but even more tasteless, the best thing this street vendor had to offer were grilled snake and mealworms but make sure to chase it with a cold tasty beer.
Besides eating tarantulas, we could choose lots of other bizarre items ranging from frogs, cockroaches and scorpions to entire geckos. Shinsekai is a must-see district in Osaka, if not for its for food, definitely for its unique atmosphere and beautiful store decorations.
The most mysterious place on this tour is Osaka's red light district known as Tobita Shinchi where you can witness beautiful Japanese girls trying to lure Japanese businessmen into their little shop. The district consists out of 3 major streets, first street houses girls in their 20's, second street women in their 30's and third street 40's and up. Another interesting area the tour visits is Kamagasaki where the homeless population of Osaka hangs out. It is quite eye-opening to see the state of housing in these ghettos, a site usual tourists will never see of Japan. This entire district goes by the name: Nishinari, primarily run by the Yakuza, Japan's maffia organization.
To get to Osaka from Tokyo, I highly recommend you purchase the Unlimited Japan Rail Pass which let's you travel Japan for either 7, 14 or 21 days on the Shinkansen bullet trains which run at 320 km/hr.
While you are in Osaka make sure to also checkout the famous Dotonbori district and all its other attractions, for that watch my complete 30 Secrets & Things To Do in Osaka video.

Lo-fi (also typeset as lofi or low-fi; short for low fidelity) is a music or production quality in which elements usually regarded as imperfections of a recording or performance are audible, sometimes as a deliberate aesthetic choice. The standards of sound quality (fidelity) and music production have evolved throughout the decades, meaning that some older examples of lo-fi may not have been originally recognized as such. Lo-fi began to be recognized as a style of popular music in the 1990s, when it became alternately referred to as DIY music (from "do it yourself").[1]

History
VIP Style modifications and history have often been linked to the Yakuza. It is claimed that VIP Style came to be due to the risk of gangsters riding around in high-profile European sedans like the Mercedes S-Class or the BMW 7 Series. Such cars brought increased attention from police and rival gangs. By using JDM cars with modifications associated with the creation of limousines, gangsters could avoid detection by the police and rival gangs.[1]
Both Osaka street racers and Kanto area Bōsōzoku (motorcycle and moped gangs in Japan) adopted styles in different ways.
Osaka street racers, after suffering numerous police crackdowns on the Hanshin Expressway in the early 1990s, turned to sedans, after police targeted sport compacts, as a way to cruise while remaining incognito. Many design cues were taken from
Mercedes-AMG cars. Kanto area bosozoku gangs took a somewhat different approach, by modifying sedans with cut coils and mufflers and were often bold and loud known as "Yankee Style". Their styling cues were actually taken from the Super Silhouette race cars of the 1970s and 1980s. They also drove recklessly, such as causing traffic jams and avoiding paying tolls. To mimic their yakuza counterparts, they used large black sedans.

Cars associated with VIP style usually have common characteristics, such as high end rims (usually broad faced designs) with low offsets that sit flush with the fender, exhausts that stick out past the rear bumper (although not so much emphasized these days), a full bodykit or lip kit, glossy paint and a lowered ride height. It is not uncommon to see extremely negative camber on many VIP style cars. Traditional colors of VIP Style cars are usually black, white, grey and silver.
Most VIP Styled cars are Japanese luxury cars such as the Nissan President, Nissan Cima, Nissan Cedric, Nissan Gloria, Nissan
Fuga, the Toyota Celsior, Toyota Century, Toyota Crown, and the Toyota Aristo. In 2004, Chongqing Rail Transit in China adopted a unique ALWEG-based design with rolling stock that is much wider than most monorails, with capacity comparable to heavy rail. This is because Chongqing is criss-crossed by numerous hills, mountains and rivers, therefore tunneling is not feasible except in some cases (for example, lines 1 and 6) due to the extreme depth involved. Today it is the largest and busiest monorail system in the world.
São Paulo, Brazil is building two high capacity monorail lines as part of its public transportation network. Line 15 was partially opened in 2014, will be 27 km (17 mi) long when completed in 2022 and has a capacity of 40,000 pphpd using Bombardier Innovia Monorail trains.[27] Line 17 will be 17.7 km (11.0 mi) long and is using the BYD SkyRail design. In 2004, Chongqing Rail Transit in China adopted a unique ALWEG-based design with rolling stock that is much wider than most monorails, with capacity comparable to heavy rail. This is because Chongqing is criss-crossed by numerous hills, mountains and rivers, therefore tunneling is not feasible except in some cases (for example, lines 1 and 6) due to the extreme depth involved. Today it is the largest and busiest monorail system in the world.
São Paulo, Brazil is building two high capacity monorail lines as part of its public transportation network. Line 15 was partially opened in 2014, will be 27 km (17 mi) long when completed in 2022 and has a capacity of 40,000 pphpd using Bombardier Innovia Monorail trains.[27] Line 17 will be 17.7 km (11.0 mi) long and is using the BYD SkyRail design. Other significant monorail systems are under construction such as two lines for the Cairo Monorail, two lines for the MRT (Bangkok) and the SkyRail Bahia in Braz

In Singkil (in Aceh province) and surrounding, the people use the word gloro/galoro for tsunami.[11][12] In Nias language, it is called oloro/galoro[13] and in Ende it is called ae mesi nuka tana lala[14]

In recent years, the term "tidal wave" has fallen out of favor, especially in the scientific community, because tsunami actually have nothing to do with tides, which are produced by the gravitational pull of the moon and sun rather than the displacement of water. Although the meanings of "tidal" include "resembling"[16] or "having the form or character of"[17] the tides, use of the term tidal wave is discouraged by geologists and oceanographers.

The neighbourhood was created in 1912 with New York (specifically, Coney Island) as a model for its southern half and Paris for its northern half.
At this location, a Luna Park amusement park operated from 1912 until it closed in 1923.
The centrepiece of the neighbourhood was Tsutenkaku Tower (the "tower reaching to heaven").
As a result of minimal redevelopment after World War II, the area has become one of Japan's poorest.

Shinsekai's status as a dangerous area owes much to criminal activity that flourished in the decades before the 1990s.
Whether the stigma surrounding Shinsekai is deserved is open to debate.
Many Osakans claim to be afraid to set foot in the area.
The travel guide Lonely Planet Japan, warns visitors to "keep their wits about them" as Shinsekai may be the "closest thing in Japan to a dangerous neighbourhood".
Although in the 15th edition of this travel guide, published in 2017, this is not mentioned anymore.

Eating a tarantula must have been my most memorable experience on this tour, never have I ever been this afraid to eat something, not even my Korean Octopus Adventure comes close. It tasted like burned shrimp but even more tasteless, the best thing this street vendor had to offer were grilled snake and mealworms but make sure to chase it with a cold tasty beer.
Besides eating tarantulas, we could choose lots of other bizarre items ranging from frogs, cockroaches and scorpions to entire geckos. Shinsekai is a must-see district in Osaka, if not for its for food, definitely for its unique atmosphere and beautiful store decorations.
The most mysterious place on this tour is Osaka's red light district known as Tobita Shinchi where you can witness beautiful Japanese girls trying to lure Japanese businessmen into their little shop. The district consists out of 3 major streets, first street houses girls in their 20's, second street women in their 30's and third street 40's and up. Another interesting area the tour visits is Kamagasaki where the homeless population of Osaka hangs out. It is quite eye-opening to see the state of housing in these ghettos, a site usual tourists will never see of Japan. This entire district goes by the name: Nishinari, primarily run by the Yakuza, Japan's maffia organization.
To get to Osaka from Tokyo, I highly recommend you purchase the Unlimited Japan Rail Pass which let's you travel Japan for either 7, 14 or 21 days on the Shinkansen bullet trains which run at 320 km/hr.

Jōtō-ku (城東区, Jōtō-ku) is one of the 24 wards of Osaka, Japan. "Jōtō" means "east of the castle", referring to Osaka Castle. It was separated from Higashinari and Asahi in 1943, and separated from Tsurumi in 1974.

Lo-fi (also typeset as lofi or low-fi; short for low fidelity) is a music or production quality in which elements usually regarded as imperfections of a recording or performance are audible, sometimes as a deliberate aesthetic choice. The standards of sound quality (fidelity) and music production have evolved throughout the decades, meaning that some older examples of lo-fi may not have been originally recognized as such. Lo-fi began to be recognized as a style of popular music in the 1990s, when it became alternately referred to as DIY music (from "do it yourself").[1]
Harmonic distortion and "analog warmth" are sometimes misleadingly suggested as core features of lo-fi music.[2] It is characterised by the inclusion of elements normally viewed as undesirable in professional contexts, such as misplayed notes, environmental interference, or phonographic imperfections (degraded audio signals, tape hiss, and so on). Pioneering, influential, or otherwise significant artists include the Beach Boys (Smiley Smile), R. Stevie Moore (often called "the godfather of home recording"), Paul McCartney (McCartney), Todd Rundgren, Jandek, Daniel Johnston, Guided by Voices, Sebadoh, Beck, Pavement, and Ariel Pink.
Although "lo-fi" has been in the cultural lexicon for approximately as long as "high fidelity", WFMU disc jockey William Berger is usually credited with popularizing the term in 1986. At various points since the 1980s, "lo-fi" has been connected with cassette culture, the DIY ethos of punk, primitivism, outsider music, authenticity, slacker/Generation X stereotypes, and cultural nostalgia. The notion of "bedroom" musicians expanded following the rise of modern digital audio workstations, and in the late 2000s, lo-fi aesthetics served as the basis of the chillwave and hypnagogic pop music genres.[3]

VIP Style refers to the modification of Japanese luxury automobiles to make them lower in stance and wider looking with wide aggressive wheels, suspension, and body kits. VIP Style are typically large, expensive, rear-wheel drive sedans, though automotive enthusiasts use other cars like minivans and Kei cars. Once associated with the yakuza, VIP Style modifications now are a subset of automotive modification.

History
VIP Style modifications and history have often been linked to the Yakuza. It is claimed that VIP Style came to be due to the risk of gangsters riding around in high-profile European sedans like the Mercedes S-Class or the BMW 7 Series. Such cars brought increased attention from police and rival gangs. By using JDM cars with modifications associated with the creation of limousines, gangsters could avoid detection by the police and rival gangs.[1]
Both Osaka street racers and Kanto area Bōsōzoku (motorcycle and moped gangs in Japan) adopted styles in different ways.
Osaka street racers, after suffering numerous police crackdowns on the Hanshin Expressway in the early 1990s, turned to sedans, after police targeted sport compacts, as a way to cruise while remaining incognito. Many design cues were taken from
Mercedes-AMG cars. Kanto area bosozoku gangs took a somewhat different approach, by modifying sedans with cut coils and mufflers and were often bold and loud known as "Yankee Style". Their styling cues were actually taken from the Super Silhouette race cars of the 1970s and 1980s. They also drove recklessly, such as causing traffic jams and avoiding paying tolls. To mimic their yakuza counterparts, they used large black sedans.
Characteristics
Cars associated with VIP style usually have common characteristics, such as high end rims (usually broad faced designs) with low offsets that sit flush with the fender, exhausts that stick out past the rear bumper (although not so much emphasized these days), a full bodykit or lip kit, glossy paint and a lowered ride height. It is not uncommon to see extremely negative camber on many VIP style cars. Traditional colors of VIP Style cars are usually black, white, grey and silver.
Most VIP Styled cars are Japanese luxury cars such as the Nissan President, Nissan Cima, Nissan Cedric, Nissan Gloria, Nissan
Fuga, the Toyota Celsior, Toyota Century, Toyota Crown, and the Toyota Aristo. As automotive enthusiasts began to do their own versions of VIP, everything from minivans like the Toyota Estima and Honda Odyssey[disambiguation needed ], to keicars like the Suzuki Cappucino and Toyota bB have received similar modifications. United States enthusiasts use USDM equivalents, such as the Lexus GS, Lexus LS, Infiniti Q45, and Infiniti M45.

A monorail is a railway in which the track consists of a single rail or a beam. The term is also used to describe the beam of the system, or the trains traveling on such a beam or track. The term originates from joining "mono" (meaning one) and "rail" from 1897,[1] possibly from German engineer Eugen Langen, who called an elevated railway system with wagons suspended the Eugen Langen One-railed Suspension Tramway (Einschieniges Hängebahnsystem Eugen Langen).[2]
Colloquially, the term "monorail" is often used to describe any form of elevated rail or people mover.[3] More accurately, the term refers to the style of track.[note 1]

In 2004, Chongqing Rail Transit in China adopted a unique ALWEG-based design with rolling stock that is much wider than most monorails, with capacity comparable to heavy rail. This is because Chongqing is criss-crossed by numerous hills, mountains and rivers, therefore tunneling is not feasible except in some cases (for example, lines 1 and 6) due to the extreme depth involved. Today it is the largest and busiest monorail system in the world.
São Paulo, Brazil is building two high capacity monorail lines as part of its public transportation network. Line 15 was partially opened in 2014, will be 27 km (17 mi) long when completed in 2022 and has a capacity of 40,000 pphpd using Bombardier Innovia Monorail trains.[27] Line 17 will be 17.7 km (11.0 mi) long and is using the BYD SkyRail design. Other significant monorail systems are under construction such as two lines for the Cairo Monorail, two lines for the MRT (Bangkok) and the SkyRail Bahia in Braz

The Greek historian Thucydides suggested in his late-5th century BC History of the Peloponnesian War, that tsunamis were related to submarine earthquakes,[5][6] but the understanding of a tsunami's nature remained slim until the 20th century and much remains unknown. Major areas of current research include trying to determine why some large earthquakes do not generate tsunamis while other smaller ones do; trying to accurately forecast the passage of tsunamis across the oceans; and also to forecast how tsunami waves would interact with specific shorelines.

Tsunami
The term tsunami, meaning "harbor wave" in literal translation, comes from the Japanese 津波, composed of the two kanji 津 (tsu) meaning "harbour" and 波 (nami), meaning "wave". (For the plural, one can either follow ordinary English practice and add an s, or use an invariable plural as in the Japanese.[7])
There are only a few other languages that have an equivalent native word. In Acehnese language, the words are ië beuna[8] or alôn buluëk[9] (depending on the dialect). In Tamil language, it is aazhi peralai. On Simeulue island, off the western coast of Sumatra in Indonesia, in Devayan language the word is smong, while in Sigulai language it is emong.[10]
In Singkil (in Aceh province) and surrounding, the people use the word gloro/galoro for tsunami.[11][12] In Nias language, it is called oloro/galoro[13] and in Ende it is called ae mesi nuka tana lala[14]

Tsunami are sometimes referred to as tidal waves.[15] This once-popular term derives from the most common appearance of tsunami, which is that of an extraordinarily high tidal bore. Tsunami and tides both produce waves of water that move inland, but in the case of tsunami the inland movement of water may be much greater, giving the impression of an incredibly high and forceful tide. In recent years, the term "tidal wave" has fallen out of favor, especially in the scientific community, because tsunami actually have nothing to do with tides, which are produced by the gravitational pull of the moon and sun rather than the displacement of water. Although the meanings of "tidal" include "resembling"[16] or "having the form or character of"[17] the tides, use of the term tidal wave is discouraged by geologists and oceanographers.

Shinsekai (新世界, lit.
New World) is an old neighbourhood located next to south Osaka City's downtown "Minami" area.
The neighbourhood was created in 1912 with New York (specifically, Coney Island) as a model for its southern half and Paris for its northern half.
At this location, a Luna Park amusement park operated from 1912 until it closed in 1923.
The centrepiece of the neighbourhood was Tsutenkaku Tower (the "tower reaching to heaven").
As a result of minimal redevelopment after World War II, the area has become one of Japan's poorest.

At the beginning of the 20th century the neighbourhood flourished as a local tourist attraction showcasing the city's modern image.
After World War II, the area served to entertain the laborers who were rebuilding Osaka.
Shinsekai's status as a dangerous area owes much to criminal activity that flourished in the decades before the 1990s.
Whether the stigma surrounding Shinsekai is deserved is open to debate.
Many Osakans claim to be afraid to set foot in the area.
The travel guide Lonely Planet Japan, warns visitors to "keep their wits about them" as Shinsekai may be the "closest thing in Japan to a dangerous neighbourhood".
Although in the 15th edition of this travel guide, published in 2017, this is not mentioned anymore.
