Interstate 95 (I-95) is the main highway on the East Coast of the United States, running parallel to the Atlantic Ocean from Maine to Florida and serving some of the most populated urban areas in the country, including Boston, Providence, New Haven, New York City, Newark, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., Richmond, Savannah, Jacksonville and Miami. It is the longest north–south route of the Interstate Highway System, and supersedes older U.S. Highways, mainly U.S. Route 1. The oldest sections of I-95, including several toll roads, predate the Interstate System; the route has yet to be completed in the Pennsylvania–New Jersey area. Construction of the missing connection is scheduled to be completed by the 2010s (tentatively 2018).
I-95's two pieces total 1,925 mi (3,098 km). The southern terminus of I-95 is at U.S. Route 1 in southern Miami, Florida. The highway heads north along the Atlantic through Jacksonville, Florida to Savannah, Georgia, and then takes a slightly more inland route through South Carolina and North Carolina to Richmond, Virginia. From Richmond past Washington, D.C. to Baltimore, Maryland, I-95 follows the fall line, where the Atlantic Coastal Plain meets the Appalachian Piedmont. The highway continues northeast through Wilmington, Delaware and Philadelphia, after which traffic must use other roads to continue towards Newark, New Jersey until the completion of the Pennsylvania Turnpike/Interstate 95 Interchange Project (planned for 2017). I-95 crosses the George Washington Bridge into New York City, and then passes through New Haven, Connecticut and Providence, Rhode Island, around Boston, Massachusetts, and through Portsmouth, New Hampshire and Portland, Maine on its way to U.S. Route 2 and the Houlton/Woodstock Border Crossing to the short New Brunswick Route 95, which connects to the Trans-Canada Highway.
In the cruel month grey morning
I woke up freezing cold
To possibly start over
Before the day got old
To my anger in my solitude
I had to say goodbye
So I turned on my ignition
No reason to deny
I-95
Alright
From the canyons on the sidewalks
Where the Wall St. banners fly
To the farmlands and the deserts
And the flying saucer skies
To the running of the life lines
The highway spirits rhyme
There's a voice that speaks so clear to me
And says
I-95
Yeah
And I say hey hey hey yeah
I'm so glad I'm alive
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
I'm so glad I can drive
Burning down I-95
It's a simple song of freedom
And it feels like de ja vu
Tai Jean knew about it
John Lennon sang it too
It's the ringing bell of truth and free speech
On the radio
It's there in the Constitution
It's little sister
It's called rock 'n roll
And she's alright
And I sing
Hey hey hey yeah
I'm so glad I'm alive
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
I'm so glad I can drive
Burning down I-95
Yeah yeah
I'm so glad I can drive
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
I'm so glad I'm alive
Burning down I-95
Yeah
I-95
She's alright
I-95
In daylight
I-95
At nighttime too
She's alright
She's alright
She's alright
She's alright
Yeah
They sell posters of girls washing cars
And unicorns and stars
And Guns N' Roses album covers
They've got most of the Barney DVDs
Coffee mugs and tees
That say Virginia Is For Lovers
But it's not
Round here it's just for truckers who forgot
To fill up on gasoline
Back up near Aberdeen
It's a nine hour drive
From me to you
South on 1-95
And I'll do it 'til the day that I die If I need to
Just to see you
Just to see you
Hip-hop stations are fading in and out
All I'm receiving now
Is a kick drum mixed with static
Constellations are blinking in the sky
The road is open' wide
And it feels so cinematic
'Til a van
Driven by an elder gentleman
Cuts right in front of me
From then on that's all I see
It's a nine hour drive
From me to you
South on 1-95
And I'll do it til the day that I die
If I need to Just to see you
{What is this?}
[Styles P:]
I-95 baby
Keep rollin
Let's go Tre, it's your turn daddy
Rollin down I-95 (rollin) damn near crash
Daydreamin I got cash in my eyes (cash in my eyes)
Need to pull it over, put some gas in the ride (gas in the ride)
Get some air fresheners and not, pass 65 (not pass 65)
Need to make it there to make it back (make it back)
Thinkin that, "We Gon' Make It" have faith in that (faith in that)
Rollin down I-95 (uh-huh) know I'm dead wrong (dead wrong)
But I'm stayin headstrong cause I'm tryin to survive (tryin to survive)
[Tre Williams:]
I came from nothin tryin to beat these streets
Lord knows that's the only way I knew to eat
I tried, I tried, I tried that 9 to 5
But minimum wage is just no way for a young black man to survive
[Chorus 1: Tre Williams]
But the game is getting harder, and life is getting deeper
And I don't see no way out, and I can't see no statehouse
But my money's getting shorter, and my will is getting weaker
And I don't see no way out, so hustling's my escape route
[Chorus 2: Tre Williams]
Now I'm rollin down I-95, livin my life
And all I wanna do is just shine
Y'all don't hear me, no
Roll down I-95, livin my life
Cause all I know to do is just grind
Do y'all feel me?
[Tre Williams:]
I copped, I cooked, I bagged, I did whatever it took
Knowin that this can't last forever, I want my children livin better
I pray, I pray, I pray someday this all will end
No more lookin over my shoulders, and no more buryin my friends
[Chorus 1 + Chorus 2]
[Styles P:]
Rollin down I-95
Hopin that the troopers don't look at my ride (uh-uh)
Thought about the game when I was cookin my pies
Looked at my kids, then I looked at my wife
I don't wanna keep hustlin for too long (uh-uh)
But I don't wanna keep strugglin, it's too wrong (damn)
Lookin at the stash, one trip and it's on
Now I gotta leave, hit the whip and I'm gone
Now you know everything is ill on the streets
Needless to say that my will's gettin weak
Money gettin short and my life gettin deep
Plus I got bills from my head to my feet (bills)
Now somebody say a prayer with the God
And I don't wanna spend another day in the yard (nah)
Why play the game if the game gettin hard?
But we still on I-95 and we rollin so hard
[Tre Williams:]
(Keep hustlin!) I can't keep hustlin, for the rest of my life
(Keep hustlin!) I can't keep hustlin, for the rest of my life
(Keep on hustlin!) I can't keep hustlin, for the rest of my life
(Keep hustlin!) I can't keep hustlin, for the rest of my life
(Keep on hustlin!)
