The U.S. Embassy supported the Vintage Swing Festival 2014, also known as “ViSwiFt,” which took place in Celje from October 17 to 19. The aim of the festival was to celebrate swing dance, music, style and friendship. The festival consisted of dance workshops, lectures on swing dance history and its influence today, and evening swing dance parties that offered live music and a set-up of an old-fashioned hairdressing booth and a vintage photo booth. Besides hosting some world class swing dance instructors, the organizers also hosted the living legend Norma Miller, also known as “The Queen of Swing.” At the age of 94, this amazing lady can still impress you with her clear mind, sharp attitude and her moves. It was almost unreal hearing first-hand the stories about her youthful encounters with Ella Fitzgerald, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday, Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Ethel Waters, and other jazz musicians. This is only a review video of the first week of Beginning Lindy Hop Class version B material (more details and exercises were given in class). More details and upcoming class information can be found at www.SeattleSwing.com This is the 1st week of version B of the Beginning Lindy Hop (Swing Dancing) class. We covered the 2 kicks per leg pattern that is used in variety of Lindy Hop Charleston moves. Using this we covered the "Basic Charleston" and the "Kick-Thru Charleston". We also introduced the 6-count basic rhythm that will be used for a variety of turns later on. Lindy Hop is considered the original form of swing dancing (or Jitterbug), and has a variety of 8-count, 6-count, and Charleston moves, as well as a variety of material and concepts that don't fit in those categories.
