Dhār (Hindi/Marathi: धार) is located in the Malwa region of western Madhya Pradesh state in central India. It is the administrative headquarters of Dhar District. The town is located 33 miles (53 km) west of Mhow, 908 ft (277 m) above sea level. It is picturesquely situated among lakes and trees surrounded by barren hills, and possesses, besides its old ramparts, many interesting buildings, both Hindu and Muslim, some of them containing records of cultural and historical importance.

Dhar district has been on the cultural map of India since time immemorial. People used to engage themselves in fine arts such as painting, sculpture, music, dancing, etc. Many of the Bagh cave paintings of the Gupta period have now been destroyed but whatever remain tell us about the high attainment during that period. There is a beautiful painting regarding music and dance, which is an example of the oriental Hallisak dance. The depiction of nature in its affluent forms, together with male and female figures in various emotional poses is the treasure of these caves. The construction of magnificent buildings, forts, temples, mosques, etc., during the medieval period at Dhar, Mandu and the surroundings indicate the engagements and amusements of the people of those days.

Sandeepa Dhar (Kashmiri: संदीपा धर (Devanagari), سندیپا دھر (Nastaleeq)) is an Indian actress. Sandeepa made her acting debut in the 2010 Hindi film Isi Life Mein. For her performance in the film, she was nominated for the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut, Star Screen Award for Most Promising Newcomer and Stardust Award for Superstar of Tomorrow.

Anuj Dhar is an Indian author and journalist. He is the founder trustee of the Delhi based national non-profit trust Mission Netaji which conducts research on the Indian freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

Anuj Dhar was instrumental in earning valuable information from the Taiwan government that no plane crash involving Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose had happened in or around Taihoku airport on or around August 18, 1945. The Justice Mukherjee Commission of Inquiry which probed into the disappearance of Bose, corroborated this finding. But, the Indian government rejected the findings of the commission. Ever since, Dhar and Mission Netaji have been fighting to bring out the truth, utilising the Right to Information Act.

Dhar is now using the Right To Information act to access classified Indian government information on the spy scandal.
