Bridgeport CT 2014 -Fist Annual Battle of the Bands-Hosted by Roosevelt Elementary School was started because the All District Concert that took place every year which included both vocal and instrumental performing ensembles was unlimited with the position of Director of Performing Arts for the Bridgeport CT School District. Bridgeport CT 2014- Fist Annual Battle of the Bands- Hosted by Roosevelt Elementary School is about instrumental ensembles across the district showcasing the hard work that they have been doing within their individual schools. Also having the talent of the students displayed because no one gets to see it in Bridgeport CT, and the teachers need to be re-energize and validate for the work that they do which we don’t get to see that often. Bridgeport CT needs to know the talent we have here in our School District; in order for us to do that we must be able to showcase the talent. Bridgeport CT 2014- Fist Annual Battle of the Bands- Hosted by Roosevelt Elementary School was the forum to do that. This is just Roosevelt Elementary School way of making sure that the arts stay out there in the fore-front and to let the city know what is going on in the various programs in the district as well.

Our top story this morning...
The annual government audit enters its second day on this Friday, with eleven parliamentary standing committees set to receive reports from ministries and state agencies.
A fierce battle is expected between rival party lawmakers as sensitive issues such as electoral system reform, the neutrality of internet portals, and the recent fishing boat sinking will top the agenda.
The parliament′s Education, Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee will continue to focus on the nation′s major internet portals′ selection and the layout of political news for a second straight day.
Officials from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries are expected to be in the hot seat as well.
Opposition lawmakers on the committee plan to dig deep into the maritime accident last weekend that they′ve dubbed the second Sewol-ho ferry tragedy.
The Environment and Labor Committee will also audit the labor reform plan the government is attempting to achieve during the latter half of the year.

The Battle of Eden – 70s Style!
Remember how fabulous the 70s were? The fashion, the music, the dancing! Wouldn’t it have been great if the food was just as good. This year our head chefs take eight classic dishes you’ll well remember from the 70s and give them a modern twist for our annual Battle of Eden event.
Join us for a night of nostalgia where we pay tribute to this incredible decade with an eight course dinner and wines. The end of the evening takes us back to the days of NYC’s Studio 54, so make sure you bring your dancing shoes.

Civil War reenactment groups from around the state participate in the annual "Battle of Socorro" - simulating the Battle of Valverde and the Confederate capture of Socorro. It is held every year on the weekend closest to February 21, the date of the historic battle, in Socorro, New Mexico and the nearby village of Escondida.
Brig. Gen. Henry H. Sibley led his force of 2,500 men across the Rio Grande River and up the east side of the river to the ford at Valverde, north of Fort Craig, New Mexico, hoping to cut Federal communications between the fort and military headquarters in Santa Fe. Union Col. E.R.S. Canby left Fort Craig with more than 3,000 men to prevent the Confederates from crossing the river. When he was opposite them, across the river, Canby opened fire and sent Union cavalry over, forcing the Rebels back. The Confederates halted their retirement at the Old Rio Grande riverbed, which served as an excellent position. After crossing all his men, Canby decided that a frontal assault would fail and deployed his force to assault and turn the Confederate left flank. Before he could do so, though, the Rebels attacked. Federals rebuffed a cavalry charge, but the main Confederate force made a frontal attack, capturing six artillery pieces and forcing the Union battle line to break and many of the men to flee. Canby ordered a retreat. Confederate reinforcements arrived and Sibley was about to order another attack when Canby asked for a truce, by a white flag, to remove the bodies of the dead and wounded. Left in possession of the battlefield, the Confederates claimed victory but had suffered heavy casualties. Although the Confederates would soon occupy Santa Fe, they would have to leave New Mexico within four months.

Conversion therapy is the practice of "curing" gay people by trying to turn them straight through counseling and lifestyle restrictions.
In this special report, VICE gets exclusive access to one of the hundreds of gay-conversion-therapy organizations, groups, and sessions in the United States. At the Journey into Manhood program, men pay more than $600 to attend a weekend retreat where they participate in exercises and activities the staff members claim will help them battle their same-sex orientation. The only qualification to become a staff member is to have successfully completed the program.
The report meets with the founder of reparative therapy, Dr. Joseph Nicolosi, who is illegally practicing on minors in the State of California, and investigates the controversial legal battle to fight conversion therapy for individuals under 18 years of age. We also travel to the annual Gay Christian Network Conference, speak with former "ex-gay" leaders including John Smid of Love in Action, who is now married to his gay partner, and hear the grueling stories of the individuals who have survived this brutal practice.

Also posted on http://www.thecharlestonadventure.com This is a quick tour around Charleston South Carolina showing some of the things to do in Charleston that await visitors to this magnificent and historic city.
Charleston South Carolina, A city of history, hospitality, and a heaping dose of good ole southern charm.
Hi I'm Carl
In this short video you'll see Charleston come alive and you'll understand why one magazine recently voted it the number one tourist destination in all of America.
Something I've known for years.
One of the best ways to learn about Charleston's past is to take a tour.
And one of the fun ways to tour the city.... is in a horse drawn carriage.
That's exactly what I did on a recent visit.
As Kevin, supplied the.... uh horsepower, our knowledgable guide entertained and informed us with many interesting tidbits regarding Charleston's rich history, a city whose beginning dates back more than a hundred years before the founding of America.
Add in the picture perfect weather we enjoyed, and you've got the recipe for an experience that's hard to beat.
If exercise is more your style, one of the many walking tours may better suit your needs.
Charleston's downtown business and residential districts are compact and perfect for a relaxed and entertaining walk as you appreciate the history and beauty all around you.
At some point in your visit, you'll probably find yourself meandering through City Market, as will most of Charleston's 4 million annual visitors.
This Charleston landmark has been around since the 1790's.
Today from among the hundreds of local vendors, you can find just the right item to purchase and keep as a souvenir or to give as that special gift.
The city of Charleston proper boasts 90 properties listed on the National Register of Historic Places, with another 96 in the remaining parts of the county.
As you witness the variety of these restored treasures, you'll appreciate why Charleston was considered the cultural center of the antebellum South.
Since we're talking historical homes, make sure you stroll along East Battery street toward White Point Garden.
You'll enjoy the beauty of the magnificent row of stately antebellum homes that line the street to your right as Charleston harbor splashes against the battery seawall on which you walk.
Charleston's visitors also enjoy the city by water. There are numerous Harbor tours where one can get a better sense of Charleston's skyline, and with an evening cruise, enjoy a beautiful sunset as well.
Another harbor treat is to view the Ravenel bridge up close and personal. This Charleston landmark doesn't have the history that attracts so many to the Holy City, having been completed less than a decade ago, but it makes up for its newcomer status by its sheer size, spanning two and a half miles in length, and rising to the majestic height of 575 feet.
This 8 lane engineering marvel connects downtown Charleston to Mt Pleasant,
and one day a year, 40 thousand runners use it for their own personal highway in what's known as the Cooper River Bridge Run.
And who could visit Charleston and not take the boat to Fort Sumter, the scene of the first battle of the war between the States.
After a 30 minute narrated cruise, you'll step foot on the very soil where America's most bloody war began.
Once on site National Park Service Rangers will provide more details of this regrettable episode in our nation's history.
Charleston is also known for its Plantations.
You'd be hard pressed to fully understand what makes downtown Charleston what it is without visiting and learning more about the role played by these historic and massive plantations.
And while we're out and about, this is the perfect time for me to tell you that there are no less than 5 beaches within 25 miles of Charleston.
Whether your accommodations are on the beach, or you simply come to spend a peaceful sun drenched day, it's the perfect complement to your downtown Charleston adventure.
Did I hear someone say shopping?
Just so you know, King street was recently chosen as one of the 10 best shopping streets in the United States.
Whether its antiques, art, or fashion, you'll find it all.. I say... shop on!
All this activity will surely make you hungry enough to eat a horse...... oops..... sorry Kevin, my bad......
whether its fine dinning or various other award winning eateries, from barbecue to bistro, from cafe to cafeteria, from tavern to tearoom, and others too numerous to list, Charleston has it all.
Then when daylight turns to darkness, you'll have to take a break from your non stop Charleston adventure.
Charleston's travelers have access to some of the most elegant accommodations.
Whether you're looking for historic charm, a private hideaway, or unparalleled luxury, your nights in Charleston will be as perfect as your days.
Budget conscious families also have many alternatives from which to choose.

Watch Part 2 now on VICE: http://bit.ly/Gay-Conversion-P2
Conversion therapy is the practice of "curing" gay people by trying to turn them straight through counseling and lifestyle restrictions. The practice dates back to the early Freudian period, when homosexuality was considered pathological and attempts to treat it were deemed appropriate. Today, however, homosexuality has been removed from the American Psychiatric Association's list of mental disorders, and conversion therapy is considered ineffective, harmful, and potentially deadly.
Regardless of a nationwide battle toward the acceptance of same-sex marriage and equal rights for gay people, conversion therapy is still a problem, and it's being practiced every single day in the United States and throughout the world.

Tom Thum: Armed with just a microphone, Thum pushes the limits of the human voice to create incredible soundtracks of impossible beats and phenomenal sounds, with scratched vinyl, the Michael Jackson back-catalogue, the didgeridoo and an entire fifties jazz band amongst his vocal repertoire.
You can follow Tom on FaceBook (TomThummer) and Twitter (@tomthummer)
Quoting from ABC's Triple J Unearthed website:
"TOM THUM, THE VERSATILE VOICEBOX 'Tom Thum appears to have swallowed an entire orchestra and several backing singers' The Guardian (UK)
'There are not enough superlatives to describe the wonder of this beatboxing virtuoso - I am still trying to figure out how he got those sounds out of his mouth' The Daily Telegraph (UK)
'The mic master seems to have an orchestra living in his throat: trumpet blasts, guitar strums and samples from classic songs including Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" effortlessly spout from his mouth' Time Out, NY
These are apt quotes to describe the performance of one of Australia's most prominent and respected beatboxers and serial pests. Only in his mid-twenties Tom Thum has achieved and experienced more than most artists could hope to achieve in a lifetime. From winning the team battles (alongside Joel Turner) in the World Beatbox Championships in 2005, to fulfilling every artists dream and performing on Broadway in New York with the Tom Tom Crew, Tom has seen his fair share of accolades and well and truly paid his dues. Raised by the small but accommodating Brisbane hip hop scene, Tom started out as a graffiti writer and a Bboy but slowly rose to recognition through his ability to produce unhuman sounds and his natural knack for performing and weaselling his way on stage...
Although the stage seems the ideal habitat for Tom he is also no stranger to community and has been helping the scene improve through conducting a plethora of workshops in many places that usually wouldn't have access to such knowledge and skill. Tom has travelled from the very top of Australia teaching in the Indigenous communities of Mornington and Thursday Islands all the way to the very bottom with a series of workshops in Tasmania and Adelaide.
He has also spent considerable time teaching on Palm Island and in Charleville and many other places that would otherwise be Starved for education about proper hip hop and the positive message that music preaches.
As Tom's experience within the music industry expands, he plans to push the limits of the human voice as far as inhumanly possible. Enrolling the help of numerous loop stations, Tom has been conducting DJ sets using only his voice and nothing else, propelling crowds across the country into a frenzy of jaw-dropping disbelief, as he re-creates and remixes classic joints and jams from all eras and genres. At present Tom is working on an album ranging across many different generes and features and hopes to have it finished by early 2012. You might see him on a stage at a festival looping up a storm or supporting anyone from the Hilltop Hoods to Blue King Brown, or you might catch him annoying the hell out of commuters on public transport. Either way, you will notice him soon enough. Keep an ear out for Tom Thum."

Paris (UK: /ˈpærɪs/; US: Listeni/ˈpɛərɪs/; French: [paʁi] ( listen)) is the capital and most populous city of France. Situated on the Seine River, in the north of the country, it is in the centre of the Île-de-France region, also known as the région parisienne, "Paris Region". The City of Paris has an area of 105.4 square kilometres (40.7 square miles) and a population of 2,273,305 people within its city limits,[2] It has the most populous urban area in the European Union. The Paris Region covers 12,012 square kilometres (4,638 square miles), and has its own regional council and president. It has a population of 12,005,077 as of January 2014, or 18.2 percent of the population of France.[6]
Paris was founded in the 3rd century BC by a Celtic people called the Parisii, who gave the city its name. By the 12th century, Paris was the largest city in the western world, a prosperous trading centre, and the home of the University of Paris, one of the first in Europe. In the 18th century, it was the centre stage for the French Revolution, and became an important centre of finance, commerce, fashion, science, and the arts, a position it still retains today.
The Paris Region had a GDP of €612 billion (US$760 billion) in 2012, accounting for 30.1 percent of the GDP of France, and ranking it as one of the wealthiest five regions in Europe; it is the banking and financial centre of France, and contains the headquarters of 30 companies in the Fortune Global 500.
Paris is the home of the most-visited art museum in the world, the Louvre, as well as the Musée d'Orsay, noted for its collection of French Impressionist art, and the Musée National d'Art Moderne, a museum of modern and contemporary art. The notable architectural landmarks of Paris include the Notre Dame Cathedral (12th century); Sainte-Chapelle (13th century); the Eiffel Tower (1889); and the Basilica of Sacré-Cœur on Montmartre (1914). In 2013 Paris received 29.3 million visitors, making it one of the world's top tourist destinations. Paris is also known for its fashion, particularly the twice-yearly Paris Fashion Week, and for its haute cuisine, and three-star restaurants. Most of France's major universities and grandes écoles are located in Paris, as are France's major newspapers, including Le Monde, Le Figaro, and Libération.
Paris is home to the association football club Paris Saint-Germain F.C. and the rugby union club Stade Français. The 80,000-seat Stade de France, built for the 1998 FIFA World Cup, is located in Saint-Denis. Paris hosts the annual French Open Grand Slam tennis tournament on the red clay of Roland Garros. Paris played host to the 1900 and 1924 Summer Olympics, the 1938 and 1998 FIFA World Cups, and the 2007 Rugby World Cup.
The city is a major rail, highway, and air-transport hub, served by the two international airports Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Paris-Orly. Opened in 1900, the city's subway system, the Paris Métro, serves 9 million passengers daily. Paris is the hub of the national road network, and is surrounded by three orbital roads: the Périphérique, the A86 motorway, and the Francilienne motorway in the outer suburbs.

Edinburgh tours
Boat tours
From April to October, the Maid of the Forth and Forth Belle set sail for sightseeing trips around the Firth of Forth. Some tours include time ashore on Inchcolm Island, where you can visit the historic abbey. Most leave from Hawes Pier, South Queensferry, just below the magnificent Forth Rail Bridge. You can reach Hawes Pier via the train to Dalmeny, followed by a short walk, or by First bus 43 from Edinburgh bus station.
Bus tours
Edinburgh Bus Tours offers four different hop-on, hop-off tours of the city, all on partially open-topped buses, plus a half-day combined bus and boat tour. Tours depart every 30 minutes (more often in summer) from Waverley Bridge, with tickets valid for 24 hours. The 'City Sightseeing' tour has a recorded commentary in nine languages, plus a special commentary for children; the historic 'Edinburgh Tour' and the vintage bus 'City Tour' have live guides.
Pub tours
The Edinburgh Literary Pub Tour is a promenade performance around four historic pubs with links to four famous Scottish poets and novelists -- Robert Ferguson, Robert Burns, Sir Walter Scott and Robert Louis Stevenson. Tours leave from the Beehive Inn, in the Grassmarket, every evening from May to September; less frequently in March, April and October; weekly in winter. The route climbs up to the Royal Mile then drops down into the New Town, finishing at Café Royal.
Walking tours
The Cadies & Witchery Tours organises walking tours of the Old Town, mixing history with humour and ghosts with gore. The tours leave from outside the Witchery restaurant, near the castle, and last 75-90 minutes. Mercat Walking Tours operates ghost and history tours daily, including journeys into the depths of Edinburgh's 18th-century underground vaults. Tours last 75-90 minutes and leave from the Mercat Cross on the High Street.
Excursions from Edinburgh
Melrose
This beautiful Scottish Borders town lies on the banks of the River Tweed beneath the Eildon Hills, 64km (40 miles) south of Edinburgh. The ruined 12th-century abbey is said to be the burial place of Robert the Bruce's heart. Nearby Abbotsford was home to writer Sir Walter Scott; the Borders' literary tradition continues in a book festival held in Melrose each June. Melrose is the home of rugby sevens, with an annual tournament in April attracting top southern-hemisphere teams.
National Museum of Flight
Scotland's Flight Museum is situated on a former naval and RAF airfield 32km (20 miles) east of Edinburgh. The first east-to-west crossing of the Atlantic by airship set off from this base in 1919. The museum has a large collection of military aircraft and interesting examples of early civilian aircraft. You can board and explore Scotland's Concorde and the UK's only Boeing 707, then have fun with buttons, dials and flight simulators in the hands-on galleries.
North Berwick
The seaside town of North Berwick, 41km (25 miles) east of Edinburgh, is worth exploring for its glorious beaches, golf courses and views from local hill Berwick Law. The Scottish Seabird Centre allows a unique opportunity to view the birds and animals of the Firth of Forth without disturbing them and runs boat trips to the Bass Rock, home to over 150,000 gannets. Nearby Tantallon Castle was the last great medieval castle built in Scotland, in the 1350s.
South Queensferry
The picturesque village of South Queensferry lies just northwest of Edinburgh and enjoys a spectacular location tucked beneath the epic Forth Bridge. This is one of the most outstanding legacies of Victorian engineering, a triple cantilever iron red monster that vaults trains across the Firth of Forth with a majesty that has withstood the ravages of time. It is accompanied today by an attractive road bridge, a 1960s creation, and both are visible from all over the town. The historic cobbled High Street has traditional pubs and excellent restaurants. South Queensferry can be reached by train from Waverley or Haymarket stations to Dalmeny, followed by a short walk to Hawes Pier.
The Queensferry Museum delves into some of the rich history of 'The Ferry' - including the Battle of Britain's first dogfight which was fought above the town and the Burry Man, a pagan creation that still walks the local streets once a year.
