On October 18, 2014 The Best Damn Band in the Land (or TBDBITL), better known as the Ohio State University Marching Band, performed several classic rock hits during their halftime show. This marching band has an extraordinary history. Ever since 1878 they started out as a military drum corps. In 1934 they became an all-brass and percussion band that still holds up today. At 225 members the Ohio State Marching Band is the world’s largest ensemble. During the Ohio State Buckeyes college football game against Rutgers University, the OSUMB not only performed to Van Halen, The Stones, and Kiss just to name a few, they also created classic rock animated formations for it each song, including band logos. Here is a list of song titles, artists, and the various formations performed: Opened to “Jump” by Van Halen. The marching band sets off with Van Halen’s logo “Rock You Like a Hurricane” - Scorpions. We see the formation of a drummer and the Buckeyes banner. “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” - The Rolling Stones. First off it starts with the formation of the famous Stones tongue logo, then a guitarist playing while in motion. This was spectacular to watch. Here’s an excellent animated formation of a pinball machine complete with a pinball (someone or something dressed in a contrasting all-white). “Rock and Roll All Nite” - Kiss. Complete with the audience singing along, and another guitarist formation while smashing their guitar. It then segues into its closing number of the OSU song “Beautiful Ohio,” while unveiling a banner of a classic rocker to end this collegiate halftime show.
