A novel is a book of long narrative in literary prose. The genre has historical roots both in the fields of the medieval and early modern romance and in the tradition of the novella. The latter supplied the present generic term in the late 18th century.
Further definition of the genre is historically difficult. The construction of the narrative, the plot, the way reality is created in the works of fiction, the fascination of the character study, and the use of language are usually discussed to show a novel's artistic merits. Most of these requirements were introduced in the 16th and 17th centuries, in order to give fiction a justification outside the field of factual history.
The fictional narrative, the novel's distinct "literary" prose, specific media requirements (the use of paper and print), a characteristic subject matter that creates both intimacy and a typical epic depth can be seen as features that developed with the Western (and modern) market of fiction. The separation of a field of histories from a field of literary fiction fueled the evolution of these features in the last 400 years.
Toddla T is the stage name of Thomas Mackenzie Bell – a DJ, record producer, re-mixer and composer from Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England.
Toddla T, born 22 February 1985, was raised in Sheffield where he attended King Edward VII School. Toddla T started DJing at the age of 14 in the clubs and bars of Sheffield and by the age of 16 had left school to pursue a full-time career in the music industry. His stage name was given to him by the older Sheffield DJs who influenced him and was used to indicate his relative youth. Despite originating from Sheffield, Bell regularly DJs all over the globe and currently shares a studio with up and coming producer Redlight. Bell currently resides in Queens Park, London where he shares a residence with long-term girlfriend, fellow Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac.[citation needed] Mac features on Toddla T's debut album through the form of an irate phone call when Bell awakens her.[citation needed]
Toddla T's first album, for 1965 Records, encompasses hip-hop, electro, garage, dancehall and house and was released in May 2009. The major collaborators were Serocee and Mr Versatile. The album also features further collaborations with Matt Helders from the Arctic Monkeys, Benjamin Zephaniah, Roots Manuva, Tinchy Stryder, Joe Goddard and Hervé. He has created a mix album for the London nightclub Fabric. Toddla T is currently DJing throughout the UK, Europe and North America and he is a resident DJ at Fabric. He has had a regular slot on BBC Radio 1 in the "In New DJs We Trust" slot. He is involved in recording and producing various artists such as Jammer, Trojan Sound System, Lady Chann and Tinchy Stryder. In 2010 he signed to the record label Ninja Tune and is currently working on his next album. In December 2011, the BBC announced that he will have a permanent weekly slot on Radio 1.
Logan Sama is a British Grime DJ from Brentwood, Essex, who currently hosts a weekly Grime show on London radio station Kiss 100 which has been running since May 2005. He also runs the record labels Adamantium Music and Earth616 which specialise in vinyl releases.
He began his radio career on local pirate station Plush FM hosting several cover shows playing underground Garage in 2002. Towards the end of 2002 he was recruited to major London community radio station Rinse FM where his show became a popular place to hear the newest music and regularly featured the biggest MCs performing live. His last Rinse show was captured on video on the Rinsessions DVD and showcased such names as Wiley, Skepta, Trim, Ruff Sqwad, Tinchy Stryder, Newham Generals and many others.
He moved to London's Kiss 100 in the spring of 2005 and began a late night specialist Grime show running from 2-4am on Thursday night/Friday morning. The popularity of this show soon saw it move to Monday night 11pm-1am where it has steadily grown to its current position as the leading show amongst young people within London at that time, capturing over 61,000 listeners in the Greater London area as certified by RAJAR. His exposure of live mix sets and first played new tracks has led to him becoming the leading figure in radio for Grime music. His shows are now also captured on video and streamed as YouTube clips which have proved very popular.
