A sailor, mariner, or seaman is a person who navigates water-borne vessels or assists in their operation, maintenance, or service. The term can apply to professional mariners, military personnel, and recreational sailors as well as a plethora of other uses. Etymologically, the name preserves the memory of the time when ships were commonly powered by sails, but it applies to the personnel of all vessels, whatever their mode of locomotion.
Professioners have left the industry and led noteworthy lives in the naval services or on the shore. For example, Traian Băsescu started his career as a third mate in 1976 and is now the President of Romania. Arthur Phillip joined the Merchant Navy in 1751 and 37 years later founded Sydney, Australia. Merchant mariner Douglass North went from seaman to navigator to winning the 1993 Nobel Prize in Economics.
Seafarers hold a variety of professions and ranks, each of which carries unique responsibilities which are integral to the successful operation of an ocean-going vessel. A ship's crew can generally be divided into four main categories: the deck department, the engineering department, the steward's department, and other.
Petula Clark, CBE (born 15 November 1932) is an English singer, actress and composer whose career has spanned eight decades.
Clark's professional career began as an entertainer on BBC Radio during World War II. During the 1950s she started recording in French and having international success in both French and English, with such songs as "The Little Shoemaker", "Baby Lover", "With All My Heart" and "Prends Mon Coeur". During the 1960s she became known globally for her popular upbeat hits, including "Downtown", "I Know a Place", "My Love", "Colour My World", "A Sign of the Times", and "Don't Sleep in the Subway". She has sold in excess of 68 million records throughout her career.
Born to English father Leslie Norman Clark and Welsh mother Doris (née Phillips), both nurses at Long Grove Hospital, in Epsom, Surrey, England, she was christened Petula Sally Olwen Clark. Her father Leslie coined her first name, jokingly alleging it was a combination of the names of two former girlfriends, Pet and Ulla. As a child, she sang in the chapel choir and showed a talent for mimicry, frequently impersonating Vera Lynn, Carmen Miranda and Sophie Tucker for the amusement of family and friends. Her father introduced her to theatre when he took her to see Flora Robson in a 1938 production of Mary Tudor; she later recalled that after the performance "I made up my mind then and there I was going to be an actress ... I wanted to be Ingrid Bergman more than anything else in the world." However, her first public performances were as a singer, performing with an orchestra in the entrance hall of Bentall's Department Store in Kingston upon Thames for a tin of toffee and a gold wristwatch, in 1939.
Alina Orlova (real name Alina Orlovskaya, born June 28, 1988) is a Lithuanian sung poetry singer and musician. She is of mixed Polish-Russian heritage.
Orlova both composes her own songs and performs other musicians' cover versions. She generally performs in three languages - Lithuanian, Russian and English.
Orlova's fame preceded her first studio album when she was awarded an alternative music award A.LT back in her home country, whilst at the same time also being named a "Breakthrough of the year 2006".[citation needed] Her song Nesvarbu was voted by the readers of highly popular Lithuanian youth magazine Pravda as the best debut of the year.
In 2008 her debut album Laukinis šuo dingo (The Wild Dog Dingo, named after a Russian book by Ruvim Fraerman for school children about teenage love) was released under the MetroMusic label and presented in Vilnius St.Catherine church on January 22; a week later she had a similar concert in Kaunas State Drama Theatre. Later the same year Orlova held concerts in Russia, London, Liverpool. According to her fansite, she is going to perform in Poland, Ireland, participate at Europavox festival in France, and elsewhere.

They say it takes a worried man to sing a worried song
For when that man starts singing you'd be surprised
How many people sing along, sing along, yeah, sing along
Don't worry sailor, this ship is yours and youæ®e learning more each day
Don't worry sailor, your heart and mind and eyes will find a way
People been telling you for so long that you're running across thin ice, yeah
But now and then you feel too strong to take up their advice
Going into town with those high hopes and a couple of dreams long inside
Leave town with no money, no
And all those dreams have been foolish schemes besides
No money, no dreams - it don't seem much
Looks like all I could ever hope to see
Don't worry sailor, this ship is yours and youæ®e learning more each day
Don't worry sailor, your heart and mind and eyes will find a way
People been telling you for so long that you're running across thin ice, yeah
But now and then you feel too strong to take up their advice, yeah
Take up their advice, yeah, whoa,
Me oh my, I'm stuck in the middle of Paris
I've got nothing to lose but the holes in my shoes and
small change
I took a ride to the Rue St. George on the Metro
But you didn't show up, so my plans I'll have to
rearrange
The pavement cafes on the Champs d'Elysee are deserted
Empty and bare 'cause the folks that go there have
departed
Leaving me here trying to make this beer last all night
Well I know you won't show but I'm staying on here
'cause you might
Oh darling!
I walk the boulevards
I asked the moon and stars to find you
They don't know you
Someday the sun will shine
But as sure as rain I'll be till then
A stranger again
Me oh my, so I made up my mind to be leaving
So I sold my guitar and bought a cheap Spanish car to
drive
Everyone needs a star, someone to believe in
But there'll be wine and mesdames in old Asterdam
tonight
Life is a game and the wheel never turns to the same
place
Walking out to my car trying to think of some way I
could save face
But who's that inside? Could it be that my pride isn't
shattered?
There's a tear in my eye 'cause I was thinking that I
never mattered
Oh darling!
I walked the boulevards
I asked the moon and stars to find you
They found you
The sun will shine for me
And as sure as rain I'll never be
A stranger again
A stranger again
A stranger again
(Sailor stop your roaming)
Sailor stop your roaming
Sailor, leave the sea
Sailor, when the tide turns
Come home safe to me
As you sail across the sea
All my love is there beside you
In Capri or Amsterdam
Honolulu or Siam
To the harbour of my heart
I will send my love to guide you
As I call across the sea
Come home to me
Sailor stop your roaming
Sailor, leave the sea
Sailor, when the tide turns
Come home safe to me
As you sail across the sea
All my love is there beside you
In Capri or Amsterdam
Honolulu or Siam
To the harbour of my heart
I will send my love to guide you
As I call across the sea
Underneath a silver moon, the ship is like a ghost,
She's been out there for a week, just waiting for the wind to blow,
But now she's off and running, and there's nothing I can do,
'Cos I am just a prisoner here until this war is through,
And I'm singing,
Sailor, can you hear me,
Sailor, hear my call,
Sailor, take me with you,
Sailor, take me home...
Yesterday I saw a seabird wheeling light and low,
Then she sailed off to the west,
Like she was telling me the way to go,
If I had her wings my love I'd be with you tonight,
But my last hope has gone, it's drifting out of sight,
Wait for me,
Oh Sailor, take me to her,
Sailor, take me home...
To feel the wind, to see the sky,
To hear the waves breaking on the shore again,
To be with you, to lie with you,
To hear your voice echo through the hills again,
Oh my darling wait for me, 'cos I will be there,
When it is over, when it is over,
Yes I will return one day,
Sailor, take me to her,
Oh Sailor, take me home,
Sailor, can you hear me,
Sailor, hear my call,
Yip, yip, yip, yip
Hanna, I've been on the deck too long
I should have known, but everything's worked out wrong
I'd rather be cuddled up with you
Than out on a ship with a dirty old crew
There's always another run to make, far, far away
(Chorus):
So load her up (Load her up!)
We're going home to Santiago
Let her go (Let her go!)
Take her home to Santiago
Yip, yip, yip, yip
Hanna, I'll always belong to you
But I want to do what all the young lovers do
I've been alone in every damn town
From Singapore up to the Hague and then down
I bring her in and take her out again, far, far away
(Repeat chorus)
Hanna, I'm sailing the old ship home
Another week and we'll never sleep alone
It's so hard, no matter what I do
To spend another night with a picture of you
Turning from side to side in my bed, far, far away
(Repeat chorus and fade)
The northwind breaths through my head
and fills my ear
with sounds of the sea
and now I see clear
Time is a sadistic bastard
with footprints of pain
I'll break his legs to enter his world
to get insane
Now the time flews backward
across my eyes, how he screams!
Spitting out the past as grey
water and dreams
Far beyond the horizon, I see
how your body drifts away
I start to sail across the sea
Oh please stay
I wanna break the time to sail the past for you
hold your hands and kiss your tears away
I Wanna change the dime, to refill your life
with colours and breath
Bre ak the time
Sail the time
Oh, please stay
Cause now I'm here
And the second time,
I promise I'll stay near
Please open your eyes
please smile for me, my dear
Why is your skin still pale
Come, whisper in my ear
Sailor
The Northwind breaths through my head
and fills my ear
with sounds of the sea
and now I see clear
Time is a sadistic bastard
with footprints of pain
I'll break his legs to enter his world
to get insane
Now the time flews backward
across my eyes, how he screams!
Spitting out the past as grey
water and dreams
Far beyond the horizon, I see
how your body drifts away
I start to sail across the sea
Oh please stay
I wanna break the time to sail the past for you
hold your hands and kiss your tears away
I Wanna change the dime, to refill your life
I'm not a sailor
I'm not so strong out of my shoes
Dragging like anchors
Over the ocean
Pearls in the sky strung 'round the moon
Pointing to you
So I'll sail till morning
Or I'll sail till I
Carried to you tonight
I'm not a sailor
But I'll spend the night out on the sea
Out on the sea
And I'll sail till morning
Or I'll sail till I
Carried to you tonight
Now if you're looking for a lady to snuggle up in your
You'd better think about movies or pictures instead
For you don't make love in Panama
Until you've bought a camera
Standing up and down the sidewalks with duty frees in
their hands
Showing off with a price tag to make you understand
That you don't make love in Panama
Until you've bought a camera
Any kind of little something that you wanna try
All depends on what you buy
For if you buy a watch, that will only keep her smiling
Bring out the old 'greenbacks', show us to your room
Let's make some movies, looking through the zoom into
Love, sweet love in Panama
Let us buy your camera
So if you go to Panama, look down the old street
Pick out the best camera and you'll get a real treat
For you don't make love in Panama
Until you've bought a camera
Ay-yi-yi, Panama!
Any kind of little something that you want to try
All depends on what you buy
For if you buy a watch, that will only keep her smiling
Ay-yi-yi, Panama
We´ve seen die the old millennium
And let History take it far away
With yearning they waited
The new millennium´s birth
And fascinated with this new era
They broke all the rules as a celebration
I´m a traveler in Space and Time
I´m a Sailor of the new millennium
I will wait for you
In the storm and in the silence
I will wait for the Creation from
The travel of time
And being held at the crossroad
Of this age
I let myself to be guided
By your sight till I find
Myself with you through time
Or until I break the silence
This is the bed where we used to make love
This is a friend from the apartment above
This is the lounge with our table and chairs
And dinner for two
Now here we can see about half of her face
But this was before we had fixed up our place
Here is the street and the front of the house
With our name on the bell
(Chorus:)
And the story goes on, like the photographs show
Running over and over with no place to go
For I'm caught in a street where life's on repeat
And always the same
In Memory Lane, down Memory Lane
Here is the bride - it was sometime in June
The summer was warm, now here is the groom
Just a couple of kids at the mercy of life
But so much in love
And the family grows like a blossoming tree
Here's number one, he takes after me
And here's number two in her favourite dress
And dinner for four
(Repeat chorus)
And the memories flow, running out of control
Like a vision of heaven to a runaway soul
For I'm caught in a street where life's on repeat
And always the same
In Memory Lane
Ooh - soy marinero
Ooh - soy marinero*
When I was a boy I would always dream about the sea
I could picture myself on a sailing ship
With the sun shining down on me
Looking through my history books for adventure and
happiness
As in how to discover America
Through Columbus and through Cortes
But life is a tombolita, so be what you want to be
And love is a senorita waiting across the sea
Soy marinero - amante de vida
No tengo dinero - pero mucho amor
Soy marinero - gitano de la onda
Soy el rico senador el viajador del agua**
Soon I was a bigger boy and I was certain to be a man
For I would look at the girls in a different way
And they all seemed to understand
Looking out of my classroom window
Gazing across the sea
I would say to myself in a deeper voice
"The sea is the place for me"
For life is a tombolita, so be what you want to be
And love is a senorita waiting across the sea
(Repeat chorus)
Ooh - soy marinero
Oooh - soy marinero
para todas las chicas - hay un marinero***
Ooh - soy marinero
Oooh - soy marinero
But life is a tombolita, so be what you want to be
And love is a senorita waiting across the sea
(Repeat chorus twice)
Soy el rico senador el viajador del agua
Mambo - mambo - mambo - mambo loco!
(Chorus:)
Mambo - when I see my baby go loco
I can feel my body turn rojo
I can hear my baby go
Give me give me give me bonito
Mambo - like a discoteca del bobo
Underneath the palma del coco
I can feel my body go mambo (Loco!)
Don't know what I need to do to get out of the crazy
mambo
Everything I try to say comes out like 'mumbo jumbo'
I think we're in a kind of spell
from the beat of this old combo
I thought we knew each other well
But now you're calling me Edmundo!
We better up and away
We better drink up and go
Before we get locked up forever in Mambo Loco
(Repeat chorus)
Everything I try to do is gobbled up by mambo
I don't know if I'm gonna fall or fly like Disney's
Dumbo
I never really tried to be the new Latino Rambo
For my heart is beating me just like a jumbo bombo
We better up and away
We better drink up and go
Before we get locked up forever in Mambo Loco
(Repeat chorus)
Para bailar el mambo loco
Es bastante estar loco!
Let's Go To Town
Let's go to town
Down to the redlight quarter
That part of town
Where there is no such thing as law and order
That's where the girls are waiting for us
With all the boozin' and the dice to toss
Downton, downtown
No more scrubbing dirty decks
No more sanitary checks
Never mind the captain, this is our world
Got my money, got my leave
Gout our naval sex appeal
Let's get down to girls!
Let's go to town
And take up that old routine
Let's go to town
To act out the sailor's dream
There's a city full of lonely dames
Waitin' for the boys
With empty glasses, making passes
Looking out for joys
And we don't want to spend the night aboard with a deck
of cards
Let's go to town!
Let's get the girls!
Let's get our fingers through those beautiful curls
Downtown, downtown
Let's go to town
Down to the redlight quarter
That part of town
Where there is no such thing as law and order
That's where the girls are waiting for us
With all the boozin' and the dice to toss
Well
the table is set
the candles are lit
And there's the knock on the door.
Boy! She's looking pretty
all dressed up
Now who could have wished for more.
we wined anc! dined and all was fine
Knowing that she was game
But' then I went and really spoiled it all
By filling up my glass again.
(For) one drink too many took the smile right off of her face
One lousy drink too many took the girl right out of my place
Well
I tried to talk her out of going home
But instead I fell flat on the floor
And all I remember ist a great big bang
I guess she must have slammed the door.
Well a couple of days and a hangover later
She gave me one more chance.
But only if I took her to "CHEZ MAXIM"
For a fancy dinner and dance.
So we came to seek
cheek to cheek
That moment we'd known before.
But then I went and did it all again
By filling up my glass once more.
(For) one drink too many took the smile right off of her face.
One lousy drink too many took the girl right out of that place.
Well
I tried to talk her out of going home
But instead I fell flat on the floor.
And all I remember ist a 'cha-cha-cha'
With the bouncers at the door.
we came to seek
cheek to cheek
That moment we'd known before.
But then I went and did it all again
By filling up my glass once more.
(For) one drink too many took the smile right off of her face.
One lousy drink too many took the girl right out of that place.
I tried to talk her out of going home
But instead I fell flat on the floor.
Our lives are like the clock
A never- ending circle made of time
For all I know, we might have lived this life before
For nothing´s really changed
The senses still confide in lust and love
For love is man´s eternity
From the spring´s first flower
To the end of the fall
We stretch every hour, for love I recall
Like the wish and desire
For life as a game
For the virginal fire to be drowned again
Nothing has changed
It´s like a play´s immortal run
Where every part has played before
It lives and gives to everyone
And still we try to break the seals
But love is like the pendulum of time
It swings from truth to fantasy
From the spring´s first flower
To the end of the fall
We stretch every hour, for love I recall
Like the wish and desire
For life as a game
For the virginal fire to be drowned again
She's not the kind that sleeps around
She's the kind that settles down
She's got that gentleness of touch, so full of life
And full of dreams
The kind of girl I need so much
She's got those tender looking eyes
The kind that never cheats or lies
But why she works in this old bar full of drunks
And has been-stars
I wish that I could change it all
For she's my kind of girl
But she belongs to a much better world
She pours the drinks with steady hands
I bet she's the kind that understands
A guy like me who drinks alone
Without a friend, away from home
Still drying out from the pouring rain
I wish I knew just what to say
To make her come with me one day
But until then I'll keep my place, every night
To see her face
And maybe dream a little more
For she's my kind of girl
But she belongs to a much better world
For she's my kind of girl
Music...
Music...
Born in city lights, raised on city streets
Heaven is lost without your dancing feet
Heartbeats on your sleeve, Rhythm in your soul
Hollywood desperados, bought and sold
Through melodies and parodies and riffs to make you go
crazy
No time for your heartbeat to get lazy
With music in the air, love is at your feet
Heaven is lost without your down beat
Music, to live by, to love by
Music to get on your feet
Music to live by, to love by...
Jungles out of drums, Romance out of strings
Heaven is lost without your downbeat swing
Heatwaves on the floor, combos on the stage
Riding the beat bonanza page by page
Through memories and fantasies of moonlight and
splendour
Tailor made for your heart to remember
With music in the air, love is at your feet
Heaven is lost without your down beat
(Repeat chorus twice)
Music...
Get up, get up, get up, get up
Music...
Music...
Latino lover makes his way into the night
(Latino lover - Eh! Latino lover)
Un caballero with a promise of delight
(Un caballero - Eh! Un caballero)
His rhythm of life is the rhythm of love
And he will promise you a piece of heaven above
But his love is a game, so try to make him stay
Away - away - away...
(Chorus A:)
Latino lover, you dance like a mambo king
(Latino lover)
The only thing that you're really afraid of
Is a wedding ring
Latino lover, your hair is dark and full of sexy curls
(Latino lover)
Tailor-made to keep a steady flow
Of those young Scandinavian girls
(Chorus B:)
Lime and tequila - Kahlua sangria
With bar and cabana - a l'Americana
All night casino - with combo Latino
And ladies too loco to say: "No! Amigo!"
Latino lover fills his diary every day
(Latino lover - Eh! Latino lover)
El companero for the package holiday
(El companero - Eh! El companero)
But love is a game leading up to his room
Full of broken hearts that fell in love too soon
His love will be gone before the break of day
Away - away - away...
(Repeat chorus A & B)
But love is a game leading up to his room
Full of broken hearts that fell in love too soon
His love is a game - you should have tried to stay
Away - away - away...
(Repeat chorus A & B)

You ain't gonna get me honey no way
Tearing down the highway in the pouring rain
Escaping from my wedding day
I heard the bells ringing in the local church
The ceremony's nearly under way
Telegrams came and the cheap champagne
Was driving everybody out of their brains
I convinced my best friends
I lost my nerve and I pleaded I was being framed
"Sailor show me which way to go"
I screamed out loud
"Sailor show me which way to go"
Such a deadly silence due to my defiance
The wedding ground to a halt
Said I changed my mind
Ain't no use in your trying
So her brother punched me in the throat
Her mother got hysterical the bitch was cynical
Father's in the corner drunk picking myself off the floor
I ran to the door, down the fire escape and on my way
"Sailor show me which way to go"
You should have heard the noise
Said "Sailor show me which way to go"
So keep clean girlie
Find a man that's truly
Gonna love you
From dusk till dawn
Keep your front door key don't give him up for me
'Cause tomorrow I may be gone
You see, your would be keeper's
Still an all night creeper
Nobody gonna change him now
Who thinks a marriage license
Should be like a dog's license
So let's renew it when the year runs out
Sailor show me which way to go
Sailor show me which way to go
She had a body full of lust
In our cell you ask me do I wanna be a sailor
In our cell you ask me do I wanna be a sailor
I think dirt
a suicide jump to run a self check
Oh my girl do you only like the younger or the braindead?
Three way, freeway, take me like a sailor
Three way, freeway, wanna be a sailor?
Oh quick step, boy girl love me like you love her
A Knee jerk slow work, wanna be a sailor
In our cell you ask me do I wanna be a sailor
In our cell you ask me do I wanna be a sailor
A child like a lipstick fight before the nose dive,
my princess, do you only like the easy and the snow blind?
Three way, freeway, take me like a sailor
Three way, freeway, wanna be a sailor?
Oh quick step, boy girl love me like you love her
A Knee jerk slow work, wanna be a sailor
Like a fever, I wanna be a sailor
Like a fever, I wanna be the sailor [2x]
Three way, freeway, take me like a sailor
Three way, freeway, wanna be a sailor?
Oh quick step, boy girl love me like you love her
Touched down in Hawaii, we fell from the sky
A B-17 full of lonesome GI's
Inspected by generals with gold on their chests
Then a girl she put garlands of lfowers
Round my neck
Aloha... Aloha... to Pearl Harbor
The Pacific at midnight and stars filled the sky
I was holding her so tight, her swimsuit was dry
Then on the horizon and out of the dawn
Came the sound of tuned thunder
A mechanical swarm
Aloha...
(something's comin', comin', engines hummin', hummin')
Aloha...
(She's got warm lips, smooth hips, makes my soul flip,
wow!)
Pearl Harbor, Pearl Harbor...
(Chorus:)
Tora Tora, Dive bomb love
Tora Tora can't get enough
Tora Tora you're the one
Take me to the land of the rising sun
Tora Tora don't break my heart
Promise me we'll never part
Tora Tora you're the one...
To the sound of Glenn Miller, we danced cheek to cheek
[vocalised horns] I've waited all week
To call you and tell you this time it's goodbye
My bags are all packed and I'm ready to fly
Aloha...
(Repeat chorus)
(Repeat chorus, fade)
Sayanora...
Whatever happened to the crazy dames
With the red ruby lips
Whatever happened to the burning flames
With the swing on the hips
She makes you turn when she passes you by
With a cool kind of look in her eye
She's like a flash from a movie show
Playing up to "Marlowe".
Stiletto heels clicking on the sidewalk
Tight skirts and ruby red lips
Stiletto heels are bound to make the boys talk
About her legs and her wiggeling hips
She doesn't need to speak a word at all
For her figure kind of says it all.
They talk about her in the neighbourhood
For good looks get around
She's always dropping into HolIywood
With the gents of the town
She likes to flirt with the right kind of man
But she can turn them into clay in her hand
And with the sound of her tiny feet
She'll turn heads on main street.
Stiletto heels clicking on the sidewalk
...
I really love you for your mind
And I know that we're two of a kind
I don't go straight for that physical bit
It always turns out a one-way trip
But won't you come up to my room
So we can discuss, say, Egyptian tombs
Or maybe just do a few little steps
From one of our favourite Bolshoi ballets
(Chorus):
Give me Shakespeare instead of long French kisses
Give me Mozart instead of holding me tight
Give me Tolstoy instead of girl-talk drivel
Like 'Baby, it's alright'
Give me Shakespeare instead of moonlight flirting
Give me Schubert instead of Hollywood tears
Give me Bolshoi instead of all-night hustle
Give me Henry Moore, Salvador Dali
And an evening at the opera
I really love you as you are
And without make-up I think that you'll go far
Your clothes hide your figure beautifully
It makes a lovely change, I mean that sincerely
I've got so much respect for you
And I know that you've got respect for me too
So let's go and relax on my bed
So we can confirm all that we've said
(Repeat chorus)
Writing and painting, poetry and neurology
Those are just some of my favourite things
Gershwin and Schumann, Newton and Rasputin
Those are just some of my favourite people
(Repeat chorus) Give me Henry Moore, Salvador Dali
Gimme gimme gimme Shakespeare, oh
Give me Shakespeare, oh
Give me Shakespeare, oh
Give me Henry Moore, Salvador Dali
And an evening at the opera
Hey there! You better get up now, and clean up your place
Can't you see there are ships in the harbour?
Put on your best face, and turn on your lights
And spray some perfume in your parlour
But don't lose your head, just keep to your trade
Treat him with love, but only after he's paid
For living is dear, and so much shorter each year
So make the most of it while you're still young
(Chorus):
It's the sailors' night on the town, girl
By now you should know what to do
It's the sailors' night on the town, girl
Can't you hear them calling for you?
So, fill them with lust and sparkling champagne
Give them a good time so they will come back again
It's the sailors' night on the town, girl
So make the most of it while you're still young
Sailors and miners, or just men about town
They need you like whisky and brandy
And though they may be as proud as the rooster at dawn
In your bed, they're like children with candy
So, don't be afraid, just do what you can
And some day, who knows, you might even find your own man
So, don't let your dreams gather dust from today
Just make the most of it while you're still young
Well-cut suits in black or grey
Like corporate uniforms they flood into the streets
And away (Tokyo's calling)
Some will go home, some will check in
To those capsule hotels, but first
We let 'Happy Time' begin
(Yakitoria) A little drink before bed time
It's always 'Happy Hour' here
(Yakitoria)They come to talk about girls
(Chorus):
But all in all, the first call
Is 'Make it if you can down to Soapland
To get lost in steam and a sexual dream.'
On and on the word is to
'Make it if you can down to Soapland
To get lost in steam and a sexual dream.'
The days are hard and much too long
For battles in boardrooms
Battles on paper have come (Tokyo's calling)
The families wait for the voice on the phone
Always afraid to be told
That he won't be home
(Yakitoria)Another drink before bed time
It's still 'Happy Hour' here
(Yakitoria)They come to talk about girls
(Repeat chorus)
Sexual dream...
(Yakitoria) (Tokyo's calling, Tokyo's calling)
(Yakitoria)...
Down to Soapland
To get lost in steam and a sexual dream
On and on the word is to
'Make it if you can down to Soapland
To get lost in steam and a sexual dream
To get lost in steam and a sexual dream
The Bousbir of Casablanca...
The Casbah of Algiers...
Even the Barrio Chino of Barcelona
Could only boast of second place
Next to you...
The harbour of the world
The secrets of a girl
The labours of a friend
A place to live the dream
To musical machines
Never seen again...
Saint John, your temples are broken
Saint John, your sacraments are unspoken
Saint John, your congregation has gone
But your testament lives on
Saint John
So they cleaned you up
They tried to break your soul
They took away your heart
In that winter cold - and now
You're just a memory of a broken home
From a history book
To a field of ashes and stone...
To build upon your grave
A place without a face
A place without a heart
But once, you sold your dreams
To musical machines
Never seen again...
(Repeat chorus)
Les piano mecaniques
Jouent pour les marins
Dans le port de Marseille
Dans les bars a Putains*
Like a thousand souls of young lost girls
Disappearing like star-dust
Into the clouds
On this - the final journey
Never to be seen again...
(Repeat chorus)
Saint John
Saint John
There's a full moon tonight, hold on
If I ask you, you might, so I'll hold on
Driving along in my car
Taking much too long to say goodnight
Far away from the world so high-wired
There's a boy and a a girl and they're so tired
Driving along in search of
Something they know can't be found
Can't be found
(Chorus:)
But the starlight is making it all seem right
Wish I could steal the magic I feel in the daylight
And by starlight, making it all seem right
Starlight reveals the magic is real - hold me tight
Loving by starlight makes the world unite
Would they miss us out there? I don't know
But the wind's in your hair, so let's go
We could be wasting all of our lives, and what for?
Just look up to the stars, they know
They've been up there a long time and they know
That working our whole lives for silly things we don't
need
I don't need...
(Repeat chorus)
(Loving by starlight makes the world unite)
People in love - they don't care about the late night
news
They don't ever get the midnight blues
Of lonely, sleepless nights.
People in love - they don't need to go to fancy do's
Or spend their money on a package cruise
They'd rather stay at home - just to be alone.
For they've got that magic recipe
The kind that no one can buy
And only fools and well-trained scientists
Keep on wondering why
People - people in love
People - people in love
People in love - they don't care about the neighbour's
lawn
Being sprinkled every early dawn
Putting theirs to shame.
People in love - they've got better things to do in
life
Than playing out the part of man and wife
And let the garden hide all that's wrong inside.
For they've got that magic recipe
The kind that no one can buy
And only fools and well-trained scientists
Keep on wondering why
People - people in love
People - people in love
They've got that magic recipe...
And only fools and well-trained scientists
Keep on wondering why
People- people in love
People - people in love
(Chorus A:)
There ain't no nothing in this whole world
To be seen or to be born
To keep me happy night and day
Like the shape of your precious form
(Chorus B:)
There ain't no nothing in this whole world
To keep my body warm
Like the soft and slender, young and tender
Shape of her precious form
She's as soft as a child with a mind like a revolution
She can soon drive you wild with a heartbeat
convulution
She's one of a kind, and I'm sentimentally blind
When I play her game
I'm just a boy who wants to play it again
(Repeat chorus A & B)
She was born with a style from a perfect resolution
With her eyes that beguile, she's the pride of
evolution
She's in my mind, and my body temperature climbs
When I see her flame
I'm just a boy who wants to light it again
(Repeat chorus B)
There ain't no nothin'
To keep my body warm
There ain't no nothin'
To compare with her precious form
Romance, romance, romance
You keep me dancing all night long
You like to lead me on
The chimes of midnight will fade away
And I know that nobody else is going to matter until
it's day
So let the 'boys night out on the town'
Carry on without me
I know a place I'd rather be
To look at you is just another way to look at romance
To be with you is to fill my world full of romance
Nobody else could be closer to me
But that's the way that lovers outght to be
Just you and I together making romance
Romance (Romance)
You keep me dreaming all day long
You've got me holding on
To every moment that came our way
For I know that I'm gonna need you by night and day
To look at you is just another way to look at romance
To be with you is to fill my world full of romance
Nobody else could be closer to me
But that's the way that lovers outght to be
Just you and I together making romance
Nobody else could be closer to me
But that's the way that lovers outght to be
Just you and I together making romance
Romance
Just you and I together making romance
Just you and I together making romance
Sailor, get your feet on the ground
Get your leave, get your money, get yourself into town
(Lonely town, needs you around)
Sailor, won't you stay for awhile?
There's a town full of girls that could do with a smile
(Lonely girls, brush up your curls)
Get in the game, pick out the dame (Dum de dum de dum)
This is the place where you set the pace (Dum de dum de
dum)
The streets are lit with the good times rolling, yeah
The bars are filled with the good stuff flowing
Set 'em up, Joe, let the booze flow
Give out the juice, she won't refuse (Dum de dum de
dum)
This is your chance for love and romance (Dum de dum de
dum)
Your leave is short but the action's growing, yeah
Get in the streets before you start slowing down
Hey sailor, is there anything wrong?
There's a dame in your lap, but you started this wrong
(She's okay, so why don't you play?)
Sailor, is it true what they say?
That you go with the tough when the girls are away
(Lone in a world, present world)
Do what you know, put on a show (Dum de dum de dum)
Don't be afraid, you should have it made (Dum de dum de
dum)
You've got to live up to all those stories
Sailor boy with your mixed-up glories, yeah
Set 'em up, Joe, let the booze flow
Pull up your socks, pull out the stops (Dum de dum de
dum)
Do what you can, they'll understand (Dum de dum de dum)
It's hard to make up for all that sailing, yeah
Out on the sea, you lose all your training
You keep me in your bed too long
I'm out of breath, I can't go on
The boys are waiting down in the street
We've got to make it back to the fleet
So open up the door, my love, open up the door
I'll give you another five dollar more if you open up
the door
I love the crazy thigs you do
But nothing is enough for you
You've got to let me out of your bed
Before you kill me stone cold dead!
So open up the door, my love, open up the door
I'll give you another ten dollar more if you open up
the door
I've been around, I've seen a lot of spooky dames
But you take the first prize with all your crazy games
They told me you were downright mean
Always on the ball, real keen
But when you locked the door with a key
I knew you had it in for me!
So open up the door, my love, open up the door
I'll give you another twenty dollar more if you open up
the door
I would even promise to be back another day
So, please let me go now, or I'll break the door away!
Give me just a fighting chance
Time for putting on my pants
I'm beggin' you down on my knees
To let me get away in peace!
Open up the door, my love, open up the door
I'll give you another forty dollar more if you open up
the door
Open up the door, my love, open up the door
I'll give you another forty dollar more if you open up
I'm sailing my ship accross your sea,
the stars are guiding me.
I'm going where no-one else can be,
accross your shinning see.
I am, that is I was all i can be,
and that confuses me.
I'm sailing my ship away to see,
and I'm so lonely,
I was the driftwood, she was the queen
A perfect sranger
She came to me 'cause I'd been at sea for too long
We sailed on through the hurricane
Often singing in the rain
On board a painted ship upon a sea of pink champagne
The waiter's face turned pale, th starboard side
He's seen a giant iceberg
We laughed out loud until we heard the ship like
thunder strike
The orchestra's still playing and I never want the
night to end
Hold on tight, be my friend
The music's playing to the end
(Chorus):
Danger on the Titanic
There's no more lifeboats, but please don't panic
Let's have one last dance
Before you hear me cry, 'Man overboard!'
Come on and hold me, throw me a lifeline
Don't leave me drowning with tears in my wine
Just when I found you, we hit an iceberg
It's man overboard
We danced the tango as the waves crashed down upon the
dance floor
We carried on 'cause this was our favourite song
Your world is sinking fast, my friend
You thought that it would never end
And now it's dying, you insist on trying to pretend
(Repeat chorus)
The orchestra's still playing and I never want the
night to end
Hold on tight, be my friend
The music's playing to the end
I'm drowning in my salty tears
The crash of broken chandeliers is waking me
And shaking me out of my fear
Beyond the time and tide
'This was our maiden voyage,' he cried
The world we know looks so forlorn
But darkness comes before the very dawn
Before the dawn
(Repeat chorus and fade)
(Chorus):
Give me, give me La Samba, every night, everyday
Give me, give me La Samba, that was all she would say
So I asked her to stay and let go
She said, 'Maybe yes, maybe no,
Give me, give me La Samba, maybe then I will know.'
Oh, what a wonderful world I'm in
For all the girls are driving me crazy
Especially one that I've seen, she's a real tropical
dream
With all of those curves in the right place
Oh, it's wonderfully sensual, for this is the Carnival
And when you let go, you won't stop at all this I know
So let me get back to my girl
(Repeat chorus)
Oh -- look at the floats they've got
Sailing down through the heart of this crazy town
And then a million feet begin tapping out in the street
The routine that put the thunder in blue skies
Miles of satin and crushed velour
With a whole street of 'Madame Pompadour'
Dancing along with the crazy beat of the song
So let me get back to my girl
(Repeat chorus) Give me La Samba (Give me La Samba)
Give me La Samba (Give me La Samba)
Gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme
Give me La Samba, give me La Samba
Asked her to stay, let go
Maybe yes, maybe no
Give me, give me La Samba, maybe then I will know
(Give me La Samba)
Give me, give me La Samba, maybe then I will know
(Give me La Samba)
Give me, give me La Samba, then for sure I will know!
Girls, girls, girls
Girls, girls, girls
Girls, girls, girls
Girls, girls, girls
Baby, you're a mover, you really rock the floor
From Tokyo to Paris, they all cry out for more
Let me see you do it, 'cause baby I adore
When you catwalk
You got it and you know it, you do it everyday
Your looks are on the money, the way your body sways
Versace and Armani and Jean Paul Gaultier
On the catwalk
(Chorus):
Ah, girls, girls Let me see yo do it, let me see you
twirl
Ah, let me see you do it on the catwalk
Come on, light me up...
Girls, girls, girls
Make love to the camera...
Baby you're a mover, you really rock the floor
A dozen paparazzi are waiting at your door
Let me see you do it, 'cause baby I adore those
Girls, girls, girls
(Chorus):
Two ladies on the corner
One keeps watch as the other puts her make-up on
Two ladies on the corner
Out for a catch, they're gonna try and pin the swingers
down, boy!
They've got that certain kind of smile
Bound to drive you wild or crazy
But it's alright, for they're not gonna bite you boy
It's o.k., they're only looking for a little joy
Out looking at the passers-by, underneath that sunny
sky
So, if you're looking for a good time now
You better hurry it up, hurry it up, don't be shy
But hold on, you better think about what to say
Play it cool, or you'll never get it on today
Just talk about love and sweet romance
(Repeat chorus)
Out looking at the passers-by, underneath that sunny
sky
So, if you're looking for a good time now
You better hurry it up, hurry it up, don't be shy
Bet they know how to fix it when you feel alone
Just a smile is enough to make you feel at home
Out looking for love and sweet romance
(Repeat chorus)
Crazy!
Two ladies on the corner (two ladies on the corner)
Two ladies on the corner (two ladies on the...)
Doo do do doo do do doo do do doo do do do - bop!
Two ladies on the corner
The sands of time slip through our fingers
Here in the cool of the Caribbean night
Please don't cry, when tomorrow I fly away
And have to find a way of saying our last goodbye
(Chorus):
Jamaica girl, right from the start
You lost your head, I lost my heart
And in the heat of the moment
We felt the power of a thousand oceans
Jamaica girl, I'm falling in love with you
Here we lie in moonlit shadows
Lost in a dream that will soon be just a song
Come one day our song will echo all over these islands
But until then my love you know we must both be strong
(Repeat chorus)
I watched the dawning of a concrete day
Got out of bed, scratched my head, had a hotel shave
The operator called me up just to say hey, hey
'You've got a message to call her now
She said the writing's on the wall right now
(Mr. Romero) You've got a message to call
She said that's all.'
She switched the light on in the swimming pool
A silhouette with a cigarette, boy was I cool
She looked right through me, then I fell off my stool
'You've got to find me some truth,' she said
'I don't need money or eternal youth,' she said
'Mr. Romero, won't you find me the truth
Find me the truth?'
(Chorus A:)
I'm just a private eye, an ordinary guy
You're asking me to find you paradise
Makes a change from homicide and vice
I'll be your private eye...
There must be something more than this
A swimming pool, a crazy fool and a Hollywood kiss
The finest clothes and breakfast at Tiffany's
'You've got to find me some truth,' she said
'I don't need money or eternal youth,' she said
'Mr. Romero, won't you find me the truth
Find me the truth?'
(Chorus B:)
I'm just a private eye, no ordinary guy
Trust in me and I will find you paradise
Now sit back and watch the sun arise
I'll be your private eye...
I'm floating, I'm floating
I'm floating higher than the sun
To find the truth, no stone unturned...
Paradise
Now sit back and watch the sun arise
I'll be your private eye
(Repeat chorus B)
We talked all night about the Science Age
And how a soft remembered word
Would help to turn the page
And make way for the wisdom of the sage...
'You've got a message to call her now
She said the writing's on the wall right now
Mr. Romero...'
(Repeat and fade)
You got me feelin' like a cold war zone
I'm playing sad melodies on my saxophone
And I've been dreaming lots of naughty nights
Me and you moonlighting from my chaperone
You never drive in my car
Under the moon and the stars
And when I'm flying my kite
You don't accept my invite
So when the weekend comes I'm going to have a party
Pyjama party
I'll buy some wine and turn the lights down low
We'll have Nat King Cole on the stereo
If it gets too late you can stay here all night
I'll send an invitation
To the United Nations
And to the Russian regime
I'll say we're having a scene
They can all make friends at my pyjama party
Pyjama party
Pyjama party, pyjama party party
Pyjama party, pyjama party party...
I asked Brigitte Bardot and Fred Astaire
But they didn't show, no no no
You're the only one who made it to the party
Pyjama party
Your silk pyjamas and your dancin' shoes
No more iron curtain, no more singin' the blues
We'll cuddle up or have a pillow fight
If it gets too late you can stay here all night
I'll send an invitation
To the United Nations
And to the Russian regime
I'll say we're having a scene
They can all make friends at my pyjama party
Pyjama party, WHOO!
Pyjama party, pyjama party party
Pyjama party, pyjama party party...
I asked Brigitte Bardot and Fred Astaire
But they didn't show, no no no
You're the only one who made it to the party
You're the only one who made it to the party
Tell me who's to say that two don't make a party?
Pyjama party, Pyjama party, Pyjama party
Don't touch me, don't tempt me
I'm burning up with love inside
Your perfume, your body
You're standing much too close tonight
Can't you see what you do
And all the pain you put me through?
(Chorus):
I'm a simple man, don't you understand?
I want you for the rest of my life
It's too late for lies, let's go to paradise
I'm hungry for your lovin'
Crazy 'bout your Latin eyes
Like thunder and lightning
I'm waiting for the night to fall
Attraction, reaction
Our love could be a fireball
In the blink of an eye
I don't want to say goodbye
(Repeat chorus)
In the blink of an eye
I don't want to say goodbye
(Repeat chorus 2x) Crazy 'bout your Latin eyes... (Repeat
and fade)
Well it's spring in the air again
And you know it affects young men
For their fancy seems to turn
And their passions start to burn
That's a thing we all learn
Our fancy turns to the one idea
Young ladies think about for the whole of the year
As the sun gets hotter the blue skies clear
And whoops! Those pretty young things appear
At times like this I'm acutely aware
Of the fact that I'm just not getting my share
I'm a really great guy and it doesn't seem fair to me
(Chorus):
I wish I had a way with women, what a way to be
What a way to waste your waking hours, what a fantasy
For I'm a Romeo, I'm a gigolo
I'm a Casanova,can't you see
That I wish I had a way with the women
The way women have a way with me
Well I spent me the whole year long
In search of wine, women and song
But savior faire and je ne sais quoi
Were the things I lacked and I never got far
Till I got a guitar
Now the girls come running when I play my licks
I'm a real lounge lizard, I'm a snake for the chicks
I'm a paperback lover, I'm a laid back mother
But I still can't seem to get my kicks
For as soon as I put my guitar down
I get all tongue-tied, can't make a sound
And the words won't come and it doesn't seem fair to me
(Repeat chorus)
At times like this I'm acutely aware
Of the fact that I'm just not getting my share
I'm a really great guy and it doesn't seem fair to me
(Repeat chorus)
I wish I had a way with the women
The way women have a way with me
The way women have a way with me!
I was born from a 'Triple X' computerised machine
Although my daddy he was just another 'lazermatic' beam
They used to tell me funny stories
About creatures they call people - long ago
They even told me they had made us - don't you know
(Chorus):
Machines, machines, machines, machines, machines
Who needs flesh and who needs blood?
We need people like a stick in the mud
We've got brains and we've got speed
We're in the making of the ultimate breed
No more slaving and scraping to the people
It's over - over
Machines, machines, machines, machines
Last night I was fixing up this beautiful machine
(Dum de dum, machines, machines)
But as she started up she turned around looking like a
dream
(Dum de dum, machines, machines)
I used to think that all this falling in love
Was just for people - but oh no
She made me fuse a printed circuit - don't you know
(Repeat chorus)
I really dig the groovy shape of your transistors
I only wish you hadn't so many resistors
One two three four
You've got all that I adore
You make me feel so proud to be a machine
(Repeat chorus)
Machines, machines, machines, machines, machines
Who needs flesh and who needs blood?
We need people like a stick in the mud
We've got brains and we've got speed
We're in the making of the ultimate breed
(Repeat and fade)
Sailor stop your roaming
Sailor, leave the sea
Sailor, when the tide turns
Come home safe to me
As you sail across the sea
All my love is there beside you
In Capri or Amsterdam
Honolulu or Siam To the harbour of my heart
I will send my love to guide you
As I call across the sea
The sea pounds so hard against this old ship
Where he had only one wish
Home is so far from his memory
The ships old wet deck is all his family
Two days worth of storm had broken the ships tired mast and captain
The sea pounds so hard against this old ship
Where he'd had only one wish
God is gone now is all that he knew
They call her Big Bamboo
She comes from Katmandu
She gets a hold on a guy just like a ball and chain
Baby, I don't need your Big Bamboo
She likes Fu Manchu
She's got the devil moon shining out of her eyes
Baby, I don't need your...
Six feet of heavenly feline foe
Curvaceously powered from head to toe
Like a Mandarin goddess too hot for the job
She has big boys for breakfast like corn on the cob!
I've been a romeo, smooth and slick
I've played the tough guy, but she's got that stick
No matter what I would try on
She's way ahead of the cocktails
Way ahead of the tom-tom
Big Bamboo
She comes from Katmandu
She gets a hold on a guy like a ball and chain
Baby, I don't need your Big Bamboo
She likes Fu Manchu
She's got the devil moon shining out of her eyes
Baby, I don't need your...
Third degree passions, putting hearts on the grill
I know some like it hot, but that isn't my kind of
thrill
That line between pleasure and pain can be thin
But who wants to boogie at the cost of their skin?
I don't want to be leaned on like a second-rate spy
Looking over my shoulder till the day that I die
Don't want to be loved to death by you
I think you're better off with
Fu Manchu!
Big Bamboo
She likes Fu Manchu
She's got the devil moon shining out of her eyes
Baby, I don't need your Big Bamboo
(Ba doo ba doo ba doo)
She comes from Katmandu
(Katmandu!)
She gets a hold on a guy like a ball and chain
Baby, I don't need your Big Bamboo
(Big Bamboo)
Katmandu
(Katmandu)
She's got the devil moon shining out of her eyes
Baby, I don't need your
I've got sunshine pouring down on me
And the sea shining like pearls
I've got wine cooling in a palm tree shadow
Now all I need is a girl
I've got blue skies up ahead of me
And a real thirst to see the world
I've got time off to go and spend my money
Now all I need is a girl
For a girl with a gentle like sensuous touch
Is a girl
who would leave me out of wanting for much
Now with a girl in my arms to dance the whole night through
Like lover do
yeah
I've got moonlight on a starry sky
Just the right kind for pretty curls
I've got two seats for the late night theatre
now all I need is a girl - Is a girl
For a girl with a gentle like sensuous touch
. . .
I've got moonlight on a starry sky
Betty Grable on the wall keeps my cabin warm
From Casablanca down to Rio, she won't feel the storm
I only joined the fleet for places and girls I hadn't see
I didn't think of all the lonely nights we spend between
(Chorus):
Blue desert, blue desert
Wish that I was far away from this blue desert
My only oasis is the bright harbour town
But they're just distant places and
I never know where I'm bound
Gazing out my porthole view in hopes of sighting land
But just another blue horizon hides the burning sand
I should have stayed behind wherever the girls were good
to me
Instead of turning back again to face that lonely sea
(Repeat chorus twice)
Blue desert
Blue desert
Blue desert
When you go down to meet the boys at the docks
With a smile on your face, feeling friendly
When you've been dancing on the top of the table
With a bottle of wine in your hand
When you're looking the guys in the eyes
With a wink and a wiggle of your hips
They all go "Wow! What a dame!"
And then you're off again
(Chorus):
Hey girl, blame it on the soft spot
(Doo do do do do do do)
Hey girl, blame it on the wine
Never mind what your mother says a good girl never
should allow
For hey girl, your mama's far away now
Then you wake up with your head in a mess
With a frown on your face, feeling guilty
Hiding your legs in a pair of old jeans
With a turtleneck up to your ears
But as soon as you're out in the street
Where the boys look you up and look you down
You hear that "Wheet-whew! What a dame!"
And then you're off again
(Repeat chorus)
Don't get lonely, no matter what you do
For life is full of old maids, girl
From Rio to Timbuktu
So let go, don't feel ashamed
Let your worries go far, far away
For you know that you'll be with the boys today
(Repeat chorus twice) Hey girl, your mama's far away
Every day, down by the water, a girl leaves her bamboo
Climbing up a ladder to a palm tree for a coconut
Oh--coconut
Oh--coconut
So I went a little bit closer, looking up the tree
And I asked if she would be willing to pick one for me
Oh--coconut
Oh--coconut
Well, she said that I was a bad boy
And don't give me bother
And that she was only allowed to
Pick for her father
Oh--coconut
Oh--coconut
But next day, I was a lot wiser, I went up the tree
And after she had climbed up the ladder,
I kicked it down you see!
Oh--coconut
Oh--coconut
Oh--coconut
Over the concrete border, there's a girl who knows my
name
And only Checkpoint Charlie has the way for us to meet
again
We thought we knew what all the fighting years were for
But that was long ago before the cold war
She waits yet another day
With dreams like my own
For a chance to be back with me home
Checkpoint Charlie - open up your gates for me
Let me set my baby free - Checkpoint Charlie
Checkpoint Charlie, won't you let her back to me?
Home is where she need to be - Checkpoint Charlie
Checkpoint Charlie
Letters they string together with the memories of home
Of lovers who need each other
But the rules of men have hearts of stone
We'd always talk about our dreams as I recall
But that was long ago, before they built the wall
Over the concrete bordrer
She waits yet another day, with dreams like my own
For a chance to be back with me, home
Checkpoint Charlie - open up your gates for me
Let me set my baby free - Checkpoint Charlie
Checkpoint Charlie, won't you let her back to me?
Home is where she need to be - Checkpoint Charlie
Checkpoint Charlie
Checkpoint Charlie - Checkpoint Charlie
So long to the lonely road full of drifters from town to
town
So long to the lonely world that held me right down For
things have changed, they've been rearranged
She knew how to pull me through
Let me tell you that my girl, she knows what to do
Well, I've had my share of dates like a boy should
From girl to girl
But this time what I've found is a beautiful world
She knows the way to those happy days
And just how to start anew
Let me tell you that my girl, she knows what to do
(Chorus):
My girl (she's a lady)
My girl (she's no baby)
My girl, she knows what to do to bring
Love sweet loving and good times back again
My girl, she knows what to do
Well I've had those well-off deals with the ladies
Well combed and curled
But this girl she's got love that's out of this world
She lets me feel that her love is real
And I know that it's true
Let me tell you that my girl, she knows what to do
(Repeat chorus three times)
Yeah, my girl, she knows what to do
I've seen ashes turning into life
I've seen diamonds turn to dust
I've seen people turning love into lust
I've seen true love on a darkened street
And make believe at a preacher's feet
But I know where I stand when I'm with you
(Chorus):
Ashes and diamonds, imprisoned and free
Such is the world we're in forever to be
But ashes and diamonds, imprisoned or free
Wouldn't be hard to face for as long as you're here with
me
I've been down and out like a beggar's child
I've been up where life is sweet
And I've tasted all the world that flows between
I've seen smiling faces in shanty towns
And frowning faces with jewelled crowns
But I know where I stand when I'm with you
(Repeat chorus)
I've seen true love on a darkened street
And make believe at a preacher's feet
But I know where I stand when I'm with you
(Repeat chorus twice)
Wouldn't be hard to face for as long as you're here with
me
Kerry run to the other side, have some fun on the other
side
You were always tripping on your feet
You went the wrong way down a one-way street
Since the day that you found your wings
And flew away to much better things
Now you never get the chance to see
What's been going on inside of me
Don't forget all the love I gave you on your way...
(Chorus:)
And don't send flowers, just give me some hours
Just a moment of your time would really make it shine
So think it over
But don't send flowers from ivory towers
I just want to see your face for ever and always
Please think it over
Wend your way through uncertainty
Then one day please come back to me
I'll be waiting in the wings for you
If you find you don't know what to do
Darlin' come back to me forever, but 'til then...
(Repeat chorus twice)
And don't send flowers
Don't send flowers
Don't send flowers.
Deep in the heart of the midnight world (down in the
red light)
The story was told of a beautiful girl (Queen of the
red light)
She was born on a sampan, never knew her dad
But her looks were filled with fortune
And for this, they knew she'd be an ocean of
Trouble in Hong Kong
Trouble in Hong Kong
People may live by the rules of the town (down in the
red light)
But she made her own by the strength of her crown
(Queen of the red light)
She would aim with a shotgun to chase the pimps away
But one night, they came too many
And the price was always high for any
Trouble in Hong Kong
Trouble in Hong Kong
So she ran through the streets and the alleyways
Down to the docks (Why didn't she call the cops?)
I don't know
But from those kind of guys,
No one ever gets away...
Keeping it silent is what they prefer
Nobody knows what happened to her
But a newspaperman said
That you don't go far
When you go against the underworld
Boy, they bring you down, down, down...
Trouble (Trouble) in Hong Kong
Trouble (Trouble) in Hong Kong
The Santa Rosa fair is in, with that 'Iron Man McGinn
Who's gonna challenge the two
The man you can't knock down
But Danny Becker's gonna try
For his needs are kind of high
So he's gonna take on the 'Iron Man' tonight
(Chorus):
Come and get your money, it's a hundred dollars a round
Put your mouth where the money is tonight
Lots and lots of money if you knock the champion down
Put your mouth where the money is tonight
Weighing in at Smokey Joe's, where the conversation's
slow
There is 'Iron Man' McGinn
He's always odds on to win
He got his name in Idaho
Where upon a single blow
He knocked the door off the Maled city jail
(Repeat chorus)
Oh, put your mouth where the money is (Repeat 3x)
Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo
But Danny Becker's little friend, she knew how the
fight would end
So she handicapped McGinn
By slipping 'Mickeys' in his gin
And so the might of 'Iron Man'
Will rust away like iron can
For Danny Becker's the winner here tonight
(Repeat chorus)
Yeah!
Lover's blues is a burning fire
Burning us down slowly until there's no more desire
Lover's blues is a racing heartbeat
Racing us on down the end of a one way street
(Chorus):
In love, reason is all gone
And love won't make it alone, right or wrong
Our bodies need to touch
Lover's blues is an open season
Open to love, shooting us down
For the same lustful reason
(Repeat chorus and 3rd verse)
Lover's blues
Lover's blues
Lover's blues
Lover's blues
Sailor
Go up to the bar, sailor
And have another beer
Come here
I like beer
And you
The painted faces of the minstrels as they gather
At the starting of the show
Soon the curtain will be up, the crowd will roar
But now it's silence
Time to think and reminisce, the life we give up for all
this
The greasepaint hides the pain
Waiting in the wings and standing in the rain
(Chorus):
One life, one love, one day
I hope to find my own
One kiss so rare
A shelter from the storm
A bed to keep me warm
The smiling faces of the people as they gather
At the ending of the show
Soon I'll be appearing in the life I know
Another masquerade
Tomorrow night we'll live again
The stars will light the stage and then
Our songs will fill the air
Love's the only thing that we can ever share
(Repeat chorus)
Curtain calls in music halls
The lights go down and dim the stalls
The only life to live
Love's the only thing that we can ever give
(Repeat chorus)
Oh - I'm out of money! Yes - I'm out of money!
Well, I woke up this morning as I fell out of bed
And hit my head against some empty bottles on the floor
I was close to being naked and my foot was still asleep
And the girl, she was there no more
Oh, what a foolhardy thing that I've done
Having drinks with that girl up in my room
For all of my cigarettes, my lighter and my money have
gone
I'm out of money
Oh, I'm out of money
Boy, some of those girls can be vicious!
Well, I staggered to the shower and I turned it on full
blast
(Ooh, ooh, ooh, ahhh!)
For the heat was killing everything but the smell
(Ooh, ooh, ooh, eugggh!)
The room was like a sauna, for the fan had ceased to
work
And now I've got to pay for this hotel
But how can I explain to the guy at the desk
That I was taken for a sucker by this girl?
For all of my cigarettes, my lighter and my money have
gone
I'm out of money
Oh, I'm out of money
Boy, how some of those girls can be vicious!
Taking a poor guy for all he's got
Using clever charms and phony kisses...
But hey! What's this?
She's just come back with the lot! (HOORAY!)
Now I won't get stuck here washing dishes!
For there she stands with a cheeky little smile
And all of my cigarettes, my lighter and my money
Oh boy, I've got my money!
Yeah, all my money!
Sailor, I love you
But you only love the sea
Sailor, what's happening to me
Like a ship in a bottle
You ache for the sea
Sailor, ache a little for me
I'll haunt every harbour
Till the sea decides
If our loves goes in or out with the tide
I'll still be here when the ocean's dried
Oh, Sailor, you're still my man
Sailor, I love you
But you only love the sea
I've got the money, I've got the place
You've got the figure, you've got the face
Let's get together, the two of us
Over a glass of champagne.
I've got the music, I've got the lights
You've got the figure full of delights
Let's get together the two of us
Over a glass of champagne.
I've been waiting much too long
For this moment to come along
Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah.
We'll drink a glass of champagne.
I've been thinking night and day (night and day)
For this moment to be this way
Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah.
I've got position, I've got the name
You've got the power to drive me insane
Let's get together, the two of us
Over a glass of champagne.
I've been waiting much too long (much too long)
For this moment to come along
Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah.
We'll drink a glass of champagne.
Let's get together, the two of us
Over a glass of champagne
Let's get together, the two of us
Over a glass of champagne
Let's get together, the two of us
Over a glass of champagne
Let's get together, the two of us
You're the boat and she's the sailor
Of our groan
You must know
That I'm sorry you sighed
Your name on that line
Can't make it more clear
The silent about it
The silent about it
Even though this hymn of sorrow might return
You must know that I'm
Far on seas
Waves lost in your grieving
Can't make it more clear
The silent about it
The silent about it
I'm asking you now
I'll gladly give up
To go through your mouth
Is more than enough
I'm asking you now
I'll gladly give up
To go through your mouth
Is more than enough
Is more than enough
Is more than enough
I took a trip down to the shores of Tahiti
I met a girl walking along the sand
I never thought for a guy like me, love would come so
easy
I said to her that "I want to be your man"
But she turned her head away from me
And told me this could never be
And then she left without telling why
(Chorus):
Cool breeze, cool off my burning heart
And blow away the misty reason that keeps us apart
Cool breeze, blow all my thoughts away
For she's on my mind by night and by day
I had to know, so I went to her father's plantation
And there he stood, leaning against the door
I said "Please, won't you give me some kind of
explanation?"
But all he said was "She won't be here no more
For she's on the ship that sailed away"
But why she's gone, he wouldn't say
I wonder if she'll ever return
(Repeat chorus)
Cool breeze, cool off my burning heart
And blow away the misty reason that keeps us apart
Down by the docks yea
down by the docks.
Down by the docks yea
down by the docks.
It's a place where you don't go down
if you want to go fancy
for the folks of the boondock town
they're gonna treat you like a 'nancy boy'.
Down by the docks yea
down by the docks.
Down by the docks yea
down by the docks.
It's a place where the lights go dim.
When you talk to the ladies
and the bar is where you drink 'til you swim
if not they're gonna call you 'baby boy'.
But if you're on the run
and looking for some fun
I guess you know what I mean
I think you're bound to find that this old place
is gonna fit you like a dream
why don't you come on down.
Down by the docks yea
down by the docks.
Down by the docks yea
down by the docks.
It's a place where the common go.
For a drink and a story.
Where the face of the Lord won't show
you'll never hear them singing 'glory hallelujah'.
But if you're on the run
and looking for some fun
I guess you know what I mean
I think you're bound to find that this old place
is gonna fit you like a dream
why don't you come on down.

Don't play that song for me
'Cause you know that melody only breaks me down
I was a queen
Who now wears a broken crown
Don't play that honky-tonk
'Cause you know that same old song only makes me cry
Times gone by, our love lit up the sky
Our romance hit the neighbourhood
Like a hurricane
Now I'm left with a broken heart
And a telegram
(Chorus:)
Runaway, and I thought that you were here to stay
But you broke my heart and ran away
Runaway
Runaway, won't you come on back to me one day
Until then I'll hide my heart away
Don't play that song again
It hurts to see all my friends on the dancing floor
There was a time when we had so much more
We shared that melody
Now all I have ais a memory of a precious time
It's a crime, our words no longer rhyme
Our romance set the world on fire like a burning flame
But all that's left is a broken heart
And a telegram...
(Repeat chorus)
Runaway, you came and stole the sun away
All you left me was a rainy day
Runaway
Runaway, I hope that you'll come back to me one day
Until then I'll hide my heart away
Runaway...
I've got the money
I've got the place
You've got the figure
you've got the face
Let's get together
the two of us
Over a glass of champagne
I've got the music
I've got the lights
You've got the figure full of delights
Let's get together

We'll drink a glass of champagne
I've been thinking night and day

I've got position
I've got the name
You've got the power to drive me insane
Let's get together
the two of us
Over a glass of champagne
I've been waiting much too long
. . .
Let's get together
the two of us
(Intro):
It takes two - it takes two
(Chorus A:)
It takes two to tango
For dancing, romancing, or making love
It takes two to tango
It's written up in heaven above
One - as a single - solo - unique
A game of solitaire - as in privacy
Like singular - mystique
Or first - as in winner - no partner - no crime
To be one in a million - or just one of a kind
But I know, for I've been to that place
Where you're singled out from the human race
And your body tells you it needs to hide
That road can lead you to suicide
(Chorus B):
It takes two to tango...
Let's blame it on the heavens above
Three - as in trinity - a cosy 'menage a trois'
Or a triangle of intrigue
With that certain je ne sais quoi'
Or just safety in numbers- from orgy to fashion
But three is a crowd - no matter what the action
For I know, I've been to that place
Where the single soul has a triple face
And your jealous heart will try to push it even further
Your mind can drift as far as murder
(Chorus C:)
It takes two to tango...
It's written up in heaven above
For dancing, romancing, or making love
Let's blame it on the heavens above
It takes two to tango
For dancing, romancing, or making love
It takes two to tango
It's written up in heaven above
Two to tango (tango)
Two to tango (tango)
Let's do the tango, and blame it on the heavens above
Girls
Girls
Girls
Yellow
black or white
add a little bit of moonlight
For this intercontinental romance.
Shy girl
sexy girl
they all like that fancy world
Champagne
a gentle song and a slow dance.
Who makes it fun to spend your money
Who calls you honey
most every day.
Girls
Girls
Girls - Girls
Girls
Girls.
Well
they made 'em up in HolIywood
and put them into the movil
Those lovely photographic splendours;
In and out of magazines
Miss World and beauty queens
Falling in love with the real big spenders.
But although their world may be frantic
They're still romantic
in their own way.
So hop on
the world is swing.ing.
Don't sit and twiddle your thums.
Get up and meet those pretty Girls
Girls
Girls.
Step on
the world keeps swinging.
Put on the dazzling charm.
Get up and find those pretty girls.
But don't rush
keep it nice and gentle
And sentimental
for that certain moment.
Moonlit oceans
girls full of emotions
Stepping on that slow boat to China;
And next door
in Japan
they know how to please a man
Dropping in for tea with my geisha.
They've got that old-fashioned feeling
When it comes to pleasing
they know their way.
So hop on
the world is swinging
. . .
When you draw back the curtain.
Hop on
the world is swinging.
Don't sit and twiddle your thumbs.
I really love you for your mind
And I know that we're two of a kind
I don't go straight for that physical bit
It always turns out a one-way trip
But won't you come up to my room
So we can discuss, say, Egyptian tombs
Or maybe just do a few little steps
From one of our favourite Bolshoi ballets
(Chorus):
Give me Shakespeare instead of long French kisses
Give me Mozart instead of holding me tight
Give me Tolstoy instead of girl-talk drivel
Like 'Baby, it's alright'
Give me Shakespeare instead of moonlight flirting
Give me Schubert instead of Hollywood tears
Give me Bolshoi instead of all-night hustle
Give me Henry Moore, Salvador Dali
And an evening at the opera
I really love you as you are
And without make-up I think that you'll go far
Your clothes hide your figure beautifully
It makes a lovely change, I mean that sincerely
I've got so much respect for you
And I know that you've got respect for me too
So let's go and relax on my bed
So we can confirm all that we've said
(Repeat chorus)
Writing and painting, poetry and neurology
Those are just some of my favourite things
Gershwin and Schumann, Newton and Rasputin
Those are just some of my favourite people
(Repeat chorus) Give me Henry Moore, Salvador Dali
Gimme gimme gimme Shakespeare, oh
Give me Shakespeare, oh
Give me Shakespeare, oh
Give me Henry Moore, Salvador Dali
They used to play that old jukebox, full of American
jazz
With all the power of the west, the very peak of what
is best
In blazing stars and razzmatazz
But on the boulevard sidewalks, the pro-American
swingers' talk
Will make the shadows in the doorways come alive
And special agents will arrive
So keep off the streets at night
'Cause no one's safe in the searching light
Keep off the streets at night
For agents hide in the pale moonlight
It's no place to be pro-American
It's no place to be found
When the troops came down on the off-beat side of the
town.
They used to train those pretty ladies
In western cinema style
To carry out romantic chores
Amongst the diplomatic corps
Where tongues were loosened for a smile
But still they played that old jukebox
With all the power of the steeple clock
Until the streets were left without a trace of sound
And only shadows move around
So keep off the streets at night
'Cause no one's safe in the searching light
Keep off the streets at night
For agents hide in the pale moonlight
It's no place to be pro-American
It's no place to be found
When the troops came down on the off-beat side of the
town.
Like the sound of a jungle drum, my heart beats on
For she was born to bring fire
Like a light from an open door, deep inside of me
From the heat of my desire, I hear a...
(Chorus):
Knock Knock (Who's there?)
It's the birds and the bees calling
From the heavens above
I hear a Knock Knock (Who there?)
It's a lonely heartbeat tolling
I think I'm falling in love
Like a swim in a waterfall, I've lost control
I'm like a slave to her power
Just like an electric storm
Getting closer
With every spark, every hour, I hear a... (Repeat
chorus)
(Falling in love... falling in love... I hear a...)
Like a soft revolution, her precious form
Is too divine to be spoken
Like a part of a dormant dream
Like a desert
Like a long-time lonely silence broken by a
(Repeat chorus)
(Falling in love... falling in love... falling in
love... I hear a...)
Who's there (It's the birds and the bees calling)
I think I'm falling in love
Who's there? (It's a lonely heartbeat calling)
I think I'm falling in love
(Repeat chorus)
I won't forget the sound of Joe's pianola
For it was down at Joe's where I met you
And it was down at Joe's, one misty night
You told me you were leaving
And you left me to the sound of Joe's pianola
And the years they go by, full of misty memories
But Joe's little place, and your little face
They remain in my mind
And whenever I think of you I hear that sound
Well, it's Paris again, but this time it's fall
Misty and cool, but alive.
I've been to the sights from the Louvre to Pigalle,
Just waiting for night to arrive.
For all the papers and posters I've seen
They talk of nothing else but Josephine
Down at the Folies Bergere - that lustrous haven
(Chorus):
Come, come and see Josephine Baker
Oh, long live Josephine!
She stunned the world at the Folies Bergere
Soft lights, they shine all night
Down on Josephine
She fills the guys with thrills and sensual delight.
Night after night, I'm back in the stalls,
Spending my francs like a fool.
The box office girl knows me by my first name
And winks at me, just to be cruel
But everytime that curtain goes up
To see those legs and her feather fan just drop
Down from her thighs to the floor - oh boy!
She curses like a sailorBut she comes right out
And says what you're afraid to hear
Yet everyone who meets her
Ends up thanking her
For being so sincere
And all she needs is a little bit of music
And all she wants is a world with some empathy
She's drinking too much coffee
And her mind is always on
In overdrive
Smarter than you'll ever be
Still she wears her good time label
As a source of pride
And all she needs is a little bit of music
All she wants is a world with some empathy
Sailor
Sailor
If it's fast enough
She might dance along
Sailor
Sailor
Will always be my favorite song
Men want to trade all dignity
For anything from her mouth
But she's not the type
To take a deal like that
And they'll never figure her out
'Cause all she needs is a little bit of music
And all she wants is a world with some empathy
She curses like a sailor
With every word
Salvation in my ear
And how can I repay
When from her young life
She's given me ten years
And all she needs is a little bit of music
And all she wants is a world with some empathy
Yeah all she needs is a lot of loud music
And somehow she wanted a boy who looks like me
Sailor
Sailor
If it's fast enough
She might dance along
Sailor
Sailor
Will always be my favorite song
Sailor
Sailor
Never once worried whether
She belonged
Sailor
Sailor
In our cell you ask me
Do I wanna be a sailor
In our cell you ask me
Do I wanna be a sailor
I think dirt, a suicide jump
To run a self check
Oh my girl, do you only like the younger
Or the brain dead?
Three way, freeway, take me like a sailor
Three way, freeway, wanna be a sailor?
A quick step, boy, girl, love me like you love her
A knee-jerk, slow work, wanna be a sailor?
In our cell you ask me
Do I wanna be a sailor
In our cell you ask me
Do I wanna be a sailor
A child like a lipstick fight
Before the nose dive
My princess, do you only like the easy
And the snow blind?
Three way, freeway, take me like a sailor
Three way, freeway, wanna be a sailor?
A quick step, boy girl, love me like you love her
A knee-jerk, slow work, wanna be a sailor?
It's the fever, I wanna be a sailor
It's the fever, I wanna be the sailor, I wanna be the sailor
The fever, I wanna be a sailor
It's the fever, I wanna be the sailor, I wanna be the sailor
Three way, freeway, take me like a sailor
Three way, freeway, wanna be a sailor?
A quick step, boy, girl, love me like you love her
A knee-jerk, slow work, wanna be a sailor
Come in my boat
a storm is rising / and the night is coming
Where do you want to go
quite alone / you are drifting away
Who will hold your hand
when it pulls / you downward
Where do you want to go
So boundless / the cold sea
Come in my boat
The wind of autumn / keeps the sails stiff
Now you are standing by the lantern
with tears in your eyes
The daylight falls to the side
The evening light sweeps empty the streets
Come in my boat
Yearning becomes / the helmsmen
Come in my boat
The best sailor / yet was I
Now you are standing by the lantern
with tears in your face
You take the fire from the candle
Now you are standing with tears in your face
Fall is coming, the only spoke of your mother
So merciless is only the night
In the end I'm left alone
The time stands still
and I am cold
Can't you see what I feel for you
Will you hold me now like you used to do
Will you stay with me now?
I'm not just a lonely friend
Once I fell for you, now I'm falling again
Won't you stay with me now?
You're so warm and tender
Just as I remember - before you left me
(Chorus):
Can't you see that I need you
Need you right or wrong
And not just for a moment
But all night long
Won't you please think it over
Please tell me you will
Stay with me now - stay with me now
I don't mean playing games with you
I'll do anything that you want me to
If you stay with me now (Stay with me now)
For the night's like a pantomine
Full of memories of a better time
Won't you stay with me now (Stay with me now)
As my love gets stronger
Every night gets longer - to be without you
(Repeat chorus)
Won't you please think it over
Please tell me you will
Stay with me now - stay with me now
Come on up, mind your head
Leave your coat on the bed
We can talk
Tell me why can't I just ask her if she'll stay the
night?
Have a drink, no it's dry
Cigarette? Nor do I
Shall we dance?
Tell me why can't I just ask her if she'll stay the
night?
(Stay the night, stay the night...)
There's just one thing that I want to do
Stay the night with you
But all I do is waste my time
Messing with silly talk and too much wine
My mind is in a whirl, 'cos all I want to say is
Girl, why don't you stay the night?
I don't dare to ask her if she'll stay the night
Ten to ten? Surely not
Oh it's slow, no it's fast, I forgot
Some more wine, what's your sign?
Tell me why can't I just ask her if she'll stay the
night?
Can I just ask her if she'll stay the night?
(Stay the night, stay the night...)
There's just one thing that I want to do
Stay the night with you
But all I do is waste my time
Messing with silly talk and too much wine
My mind is in a whirl, 'cos all I want to say is
Girl, why don't you stay the night?
I don't dare to ask her if she'll stay the night
Girl, why don't you stay the night?
I don't dare to ask her if she'll stay the night
Stay the night
I don't dare to ask her if she'll stay the night
Stay the night
I don't dare to ask her if she'll stay the night
Tell me why does your secretary hide up above
In your upstairs apartment, ready for love
When you know that you're lost in the heat of the action
leave it in the hands of love
You double your trouble when you double your home
You get love in the shadow
a siege on your heart
and your telephone
(Refrain)
You're out on the catwalk
you roll with the dice
you get love in a suitcase
and two sets of keys to energise
(Refrain)
(Refrain)
You double your trouble, you double your home
you get love in a suitcase
a sacrifice for your paradise
(Refrain)
If I owed you better days in your mind
You'd see that better days were behind
You should know it's conscience time again
Sailor
You're one time a minute,
one time a minute
Oh Sailor
You'll feel better
Stand on your own
You'll feel better
but you're going to be alone
You should know it's conscience time again
Find a way for me now
You'll feel better
Stand on your own
You'll see better
but you're going to be alone
You should know it's conscience time again
Sailor
You're one time a minute,
one time a minute
Oh Sailor
From the eighteenth century's cobblestone streets
With the horse and the carraiges to rest our feet
To the train and city tram
Came the birth of mechanical man
And with mechanical man came the automobile
Henry Ford's Model 'T' with an engine on wheels
And a crazy race began
With a car for every man
A limousine, hot rod, Beetle and a van
Or maybe just an old sedan
We're heading for a great big worldwide traffic jam
With only red lights, green lights, yellow lights
To be our guiding hand.
We're heading for a great big worldwide traffic jam
With all the hoots and the toots and the traffic brutes
To fill our loving land
I wonder who's gonna win this great big race
Mechanical man or the natural pace?
From the back seat Romeo in lover's lane
To the family car on a highway in Spain
There's a car for every need
With the shape, the colour and speed
It's the twentieth century's technical toy,
Full of buttons and dials, full of comfort and joy
But the number's going up
I wonder where it's gonna stop
The limousine, hot rod, Beetle and the van
It's gonna go way out of hand
We're heading for a great big worldwide traffic jam
With only red lights, green lights, yellow lights
To be our guiding hand
We're heading for a great big worldwide traffic jam
With all the hoots and the toots and the traffic brutes
To fill our loving land
I wonder who's gonna win this great big race
Mechanical man or the natural pace?
For the world's getting smaller
And the time's getting shorter every day, yeah
We're heading for a great big worldwide traffic jam
We're heading for a great big worldwide traffic jam,
oho, yeah
We're heading for a great big worldwide traffic jam,
yeah, yeah
We're heading for a great big worldwide traffic jam
("Stop that man!")
Running, running, running, running
Running, running, running, running...
Stop that man!
Stop that man!
He's been around doing awful things
Scared the life out of girls in the neighbourhood
(He's tough, tough as they come down here)
In and out of the local joints
Dipping into the cash as best he could
(He's quick, quick as they come down here)
Stop that man!
Stop that man!
Someone said he's a crazy guy
Who went nuts when his mother passed away
(He's mad, mad as they come down here)
But he's nobody's two-bit fool
The fact is that he always gets away
Get him (get him)
Get him (get him)
Get him now!
Get him (get him)
Get him (get him)
No matter how!
Running, running, running, running...
Stop that man!
Stop that man!
You've got to stop him - stop him now!
There's not a single safe place for girls to go
(No place, no place for girls down here)
Why don't you put out an A.P.B.
Or put a word in the news on the radio
Get him (get him)
Get him (get him)
Get him now!
Get him (get him)
Get him (get him)
No matter how!
Running, running, running, running...
Stop that man!
Whatever happened to the crazy dames
With the red ruby lips
Whatever happened to the burning flames
With the swing on the hips
She makes you turn when she passes you by
With a cool kind of look in her eye
She's like a flash from a movie show
Playing up to "Marlowe".
Stiletto heels clicking on the sidewalk
Tight skirts and ruby red lips
Stiletto heels are bound to make the boys talk
About her legs and her wiggeling hips
She doesn't need to speak a word at all
For her figure kind of says it all.
They talk about her in the neighbourhood
For good looks get around
She's always dropping into HolIywood
With the gents of the town
She likes to flirt with the right kind of man
But she can turn them into clay in her hand
And with the sound of her tiny feet
She'll turn heads on main street.
Stiletto heels clicking on the sidewalk
Beautiful dolls in the windows patiently biding their
time
With their eyes looking out to a street full of men
Who are trying to make up their minds
And the lights, they keep shining from eve to silvery
dawn
And who needs to sleep when you're falling in love
With the girls of Amsterdam, boy!
The girls of Amsterdam
Soon after dark, we were drinking down at the corner
cafe
But fighting broke out with terrible shouts
And people running away
For the cops they came streaming, trying to bring us
all in
But we spent the night in soft silky beds
With the girls of Amsterdam, boy!
The girls of Amsterdam
Some people frown at them, blushing with shame
Others may call them by silly old names
But nobody loves a sailor
Like the girls of Amsterdam, boy!
The girls of Amsterdam
And thus, the day came creeping, boy, how the good
times fly
As we watched the girls in the morning sun
Sadly waving goodbye
But at least our dreams they last like a sound caught
in the wind
And I for one shall remember
The girls of Amsterdam, boy!
You're in a picture on the 'Lian Restaurant' wall
From my childhood days, but you've stayed inside of me
All my life
Like a friend, like an icon, like a window
I can lean on you when I'm down
(Chorus:)
Street lamp, won't you shine your light on me?
Street lamp, I don't know where I would rather be
You're the city's own moon and stars
For the lovers of the sidewalks to see
Street lamp, shine on me
You're a beacon, you're a sanctuary for the little lost
Souls of the street, but you've been a part of me
All my life
Like a tramp, like a prostitute or a drunk
I can lean on you when I'm down
(Repeat chorus)
(Soon the night will be over, soon the night will be
over)
I've been lost in your picture all my life
Like a friend, like a fixture, all my life
Street lamp
Street lamp
You're the city's own moon and stars
For the lovers of the sidewalks to see
Street lamp, shine on me
(Soon the night will be over, soon the night will be
over)
Street lamp, shine on me
(Soon the night will be over, soon the night will be
over)
Well, the room is a cycloneAnd you are in the eyeThere ain't no movementThings that could dieBut the reelin' and the spinnin'Of the rock and roll sidesWill all be gone before midnightAnd die before sunrise
You better go to overdriveGo to overdriveIf you know what it isAnd you wanna stay aliveYou better go to overdriveGo to overdrive
Yes, the corner's full of monkeysAnd your ear drum's full of liesTime is out the windowAnd there's echoes in your sidesThey've been burnin' down your wallsEver since the peep of dawnAnd now the dealer's in the fireplaceTryin' to turn it on
You better go to overdriveGo to overdriveIf you know that it's timeAnd you oughtta take a diveYou better go to overdriveGo to overdrive
Go to overdriveGo to overdriveYou know what it isAnd you wanna stay aliveYou better go to overdriveGo to overdrive
Now the light road's gettin' restlessCause he knows your overdueBut it's just another train rideBein' all the same to youAnd the last shot's at your finger tipsLike that flicker in the grassAnd the last cord hits the ashesAnd you know you gotta pass
You better go to overdriveGo to overdriveIf you know that it's timeAnd you oughtta take a diveYou better go to overdriveGo to overdrive
Go on sailor sail away
I am no reason to stay
put sails on the mast
and you're free at last
to ride the sea again
its not in your nature
to stand their idol
your dreams require much more
how silly of me was it to ask
for you to stay ashore
and if the wind blows to strong
and the cold freezes your heart
come back to where you belong
come back home
Ill be there to warm you
I've been waiting for you
to come back home
it's the curiosity
that comes from the ocean
a continuous conquering quest
but when you look at me no mystery you see
I'm the home where you lay your head to rest
the sea that you love
it don't love you back
the tide it changes and turns
but unlike the tide I remain the same
I'm the girl you left ashore
and if the wind blows to strong
and the cold freezes your heart
come back to where you belong
come back home
I'll be there to warm you
I"ve been waiting for you
Here we go...
(Can you pass me the springfeather?
No...the buttermilk)
Well anyway...
K...King congratulations
The m...monkey of our time
Useless information
Making all the headlines
"If only I could kill again"
Says 12 year old murder girl
You better find out who you are
In a crazy world
Find out who you are
In a crazy world
So I ran out of the station
Out in the neonlit rain
The battle for attention
Is driving me insane
Fat man pulls other
I say "sorry ol’ Grand dad"
Find out who you are
In a world gone mad
Find out who you are
In a world gone mad
On the sea
Ship in the horizon sailor calls for the breeze
In my car
Driving through the winterstorm to where you are
In the mountain
Lives a king seldom seen by us who live by the sea
Looking at myself
Looking at myself
I'm OK
Can you pass me the springfeather?
If it aint funny don’t laugh
I’m hoppalong Harry at home
And under my cowboy hat
I’m worried sick you know
All I ever wanted was to
Live by the sea
I’m a love junkie myself
Baby, come and fix me
I'm a love junkie myself
Baby, come and fix me
In the sky
Spaceman floating loose inside Apollo 9
In heaven
Spaceman calls up Houston from Apollo 11
Universal
Burning and explosions telescoping from ground
Galactic
Guide 'cos you got space enough for me to hide
On the farm
Burning yellow fields farmer man dig up the land
Mingy man
We all need you to take the blame out of our hands
Anyway...
Anyway
Up and down it goes anyway
Looking at myself
I'm OK
Up and down it goes anyway
She cries a lot
She cries a lot
Met an old man on the street,
A dirty hat laying at his feet,
I looked and saw adventure in his eyes,
Singing them songs from yesterday,
From over the hills and far away,
Lord that old man had me hypnotized.
I went on in to my nine-to-five,
Hoping I could stay alive,
I knew that something in my life was wrong,
All night long I could not sleep,
The trouble here was buried deep,
I couldn't help but hear the old man's song.
I'm rolling down the highway,
I fly the friendly skies,
I'm just a hobo,
I'm on the railroad tracks tonight,
I'm dancing through the desert,
I see the city lights,
I'm just a sailor on the sea of life.
The feeling swept right over me,
I left my home and my security,
I finally found a place where I belong,
Back out there on the road again,
Going back where I have never been,
Now I'm finally free to sing my song.
I'm rolling down the highway,
I fly the friendly skies,
I'm just a hobo,
I'm on the railroad tracks tonight,
I'm dancing through the desert,
I see the city nights,
I'm just a sailor on the sea of life,
