IMRO Academy Inductees 2013
On 29th April 2013 The Irish Music Rights Organisation (IMRO) honoured 6 songwriters and composers by inducting them into the IMRO Academy.
Paul Brady, Phil Coulter, Pete St. John, Ray Harman, Shay Healy and Jimmy MacCarthy had their contribution to Irish music acknowledged at a ceremony in Dublin's Conrad Hotel.
The IMRO Academy's mission is to celebrate and mark the successes of Ireland's iconic songwriters and composers who have made a very significant cultural and social impact in Ireland and/or internationally.
Launched in 2011, Bill Whelan, best known as the composer of Riverdance and Brendan Graham, co-author of the hugely successful song, 'You Raise Me Up' became the first inductees to the Academy. Both have contributed enormously to the recognition of Ireland across the world through their extensive music repertoire
Of the awards Keith Donald, IMRO Chairman, states, "Once again the IMRO Academy is honouring songwriters and composers who are at the forefront of Ireland's great tradition of creativity. It is a very important ingredient in fostering our reputation of being a dynamic and culturally rich nation. The IMRO Academy shines a light on these iconic music creators who continue to inspire, entertain and make sense of the world in which we live.
"I am delighted to be part of this induction ceremony for some of Ireland's most successful and revered composers and I welcome this talented expansion of the IMRO Academy" added Bill Whelan.

Graham Harman (born May 9, 1968) is a professor at the American University in Cairo, Egypt. He is a contemporary philosopher of metaphysics, who attempts to reverse the linguistic turn of Western philosophy. Harman is associated with Speculative Realism in philosophy, which was the name of a workshop that also included the philosophers Ray Brassier, Iain Hamilton Grant, and Quentin Meillassoux.
Central to Harman's philosophy is the idea that real objects are inexhaustible: "A police officer eating a banana reduces this fruit to a present-at-hand profile of its elusive depth, as do a monkey eating the same banana, a parasite infecting it, or a gust of wind blowing it from a tree. Banana-being is a genuine reality in the world, a reality never exhausted by any relation to it by humans or other entities." (Harman 2005: 74). Because of this inexhaustibility, claims Harman, there is a metaphysical problem regarding how two objects can ever interact. His solution to this problem is to introduce the notion of "vicarious causation", according to which objects can only ever interact on the inside of an "intention" (which is also an object).
His works include Tool-Being: Heidegger and the Metaphysics of Objects (2002), Towards Speculative Realism: Essays and Lectures (2010), Circus Philosophicus (2010), Weird Realism: Lovecraft and Philosophy (2012) and Bells and Whistles: More Speculative Realism (2013).

Harman Kardon
Harman/Kardon is a division of Harman International Industries and manufactures home and car audio equipment. It was founded in 1953 by Sidney Harman and Bernard Kardon.
History
In the early 1950s, Sidney Harman was the general manager of the David Bogen Company, a leading manufacturer of public address systems at the time, while Bernard Kardon was the chief engineer for the same company. Due to management changes at Bogen in the early 1950s, both men resigned, and with $5,000 investment from each, formed the Harman Kardon Company in 1953.
In the 1950s Harman Kardon designed some of the first high fidelity audio products that helped fuel the Hi Fi business (see section, "Receiver milestones"). Integrated receivers (combining the tuner, preamplifier and power amplifier) was an idea to introduce and provide high fidelity performance in a single unit. At the time, integrated high fidelity receivers were not new. For example, Scott Radio Laboratories manufactured such items in the late 1930s. In 1954, the Festival D1000 would be the world's first AM/FM Compact (a forerunner of today's integrated receiver) Hi-Fi Receiver. By 1956 Bernard Kardon decided to retire and sold his interest to Sidney Harman. As the sole head of HK, he continued to keep HK as a technical leader in Hi Fi products. Sidney Harman would change the name to Harman International, but the receivers, tuners and amplifiers were still branded Harman Kardon. The name continues presently. In 1969 Harman bought the major speaker manufacturer JBL.

Abbey Theatre
The Abbey Theatre (Irish: Amharclann na Mainistreach), also known as the National Theatre of Ireland (Irish: Amharclann Náisiúnta na hÉireann), in Dublin, Republic of Ireland, first opened its doors to the public on 27 December 1904. Despite losing its original building to a fire in 1951, it has remained active to the present day. The Abbey was the first state-subsidized theatre in the English-speaking world; from 1925 onwards it received an annual subsidy from the Irish Free State. Since July 1966, the Abbey has been located at 26 Lower Abbey Street, Dublin 1.
In its early years, the theatre was closely associated with the writers of the Irish Literary Revival, many of whom were involved in its founding and most of whom had plays staged there. The Abbey served as a nursery for many of the leading Irish playwrights and actors of the 20th century, including William Butler Yeats, Lady Gregory, Sean O'Casey and John Millington Synge. In addition, through its extensive programme of touring abroad and its high visibility to foreign, particularly American, audiences, it has become an important part of the Irish tourist industry.

Graham Harman
Graham Harman (born May 9, 1968) is a professor of philosophy at the American University in Cairo, Egypt. His work on the metaphysics of objects led to the development of object-oriented ontology. He is a central figure in the speculative realism trend in contemporary philosophy.
Biography
Harman was born in Iowa City and raised in Mount Vernon, Iowa. He received a B.A. from St. John's College in Annapolis, Maryland in 1990 and went on to graduate school at Penn State University to earn a masters degree, studying under philosopher Alphonso Lingis, in 1991. While pursuing a Ph.D. at DePaul University, Harman worked as an online sports reporter, an experience which he credits for developing his writing style and productivity. After finishing his degree in 1999 he joined the Department of Philosophy at the American University in Cairo, where he has taught since 2000.
Thought
Harman starts the development of his work with Martin Heidegger's concept of "tool-analysis" from Being and Time. To Harman, tool-analysis was a key discovery which establishes the groundwork for taking seriously the autonomous existence of objects and, in doing so, highlights deficiencies in phenomenology due to its subordination of objects to their use by or relationship with humans.

The IMRO Academy's mission is to celebrate and mark the successes of Ireland's iconic songwriters and composers who have made a very significant cultural and social impact in Ireland and/or internationally.
Launched in 2011, Bill Whelan, best known as the composer of Riverdance and Brendan Graham, co-author of the hugely successful song, 'You Raise Me Up' became the first inductees to the Academy. Both have contributed enormously to the recognition of Ireland across the world through their extensive music repertoire
Of the awards Keith Donald, IMRO Chairman, states, "Once again the IMRO Academy is honouring songwriters and composers who are at the forefront of Ireland's great tradition of creativity. It is a very important ingredient in fostering our reputation of being a dynamic and culturally rich nation. The IMRO Academy shines a light on these iconic music creators who continue to inspire, entertain and make sense of the world in which we live.
"I am delighted to be part of this induction ceremony for some of Ireland's most successful and revered composers and I welcome this talented expansion of the IMRO Academy" added Bill Whelan.
"The songs and music of these six Irish songwriters have sailed far beyond the shores of Ireland. They have touched hearts, engaged emotions, and brought joy to people everywhere. Recorded by some of the greatest artistes of our times, they have been heard -- and sung along to -- by millions of people. They have climbed the pop charts, rocked stadia and brought Eurovision victory to Ireland. On our TV screens they have had us at the edge of our seats and they have become anthems helping us to win many a football and rugby match! They have also given us moments of reflection, of spiritual understanding, of insight into ourselves. By reaching into their own hearts these six, gifted crafters of song have touched our hearts. Ireland and the world are the richer for what they have given us and tonight we, their fellow songwriters, salute and honour their gift... and its gifting" added Brendan Graham.

Graham Harman (born May 9, 1968) is a professor at the American University in Cairo, Egypt. He is a contemporary philosopher of metaphysics, who attempts to reverse the linguistic turn of Western philosophy. Harman is associated with Speculative Realism in philosophy, which was the name of a workshop that also included the philosophers Ray Brassier, Iain Hamilton Grant, and Quentin Meillassoux.
Central to Harman's philosophy is the idea that real objects are inexhaustible: "A police officer eating a banana reduces this fruit to a present-at-hand profile of its elusive depth, as do a monkey eating the same banana, a parasite infecting it, or a gust of wind blowing it from a tree. Banana-being is a genuine reality in the world, a reality never exhausted by any relation to it by humans or other entities." (Harman 2005: 74). Because of this inexhaustibility, claims Harman, there is a metaphysical problem regarding how two objects can ever interact. His solution to this problem is to introduce the notion of "vicarious causation", according to which objects can only ever interact on the inside of an "intention" (which is also an object).
His works include Tool-Being: Heidegger and the Metaphysics of Objects (2002), Towards Speculative Realism: Essays and Lectures (2010), Circus Philosophicus (2010), Weird Realism: Lovecraft and Philosophy (2012) and Bells and Whistles: More Speculative Realism (2013).

I am a colorist and specialise in long form projects (2K and 4K) I have worked on all of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Really Useful Films projects i.e. Cats, Jesus Christ Superstar, Joseph (£15 million budget starring Joan Collins, Richard Attenborough and Donnie Osmond) as well as On-lining and grading many multi camera edits of concerts for people like Tina Turner "One Last Time, Live at Wembley" with Director David Mallet, David Bowie "live at the BBC" director Chris Cowie, Janet Jackson, Cher, Cirque du Soleil, Celine Dion, Cat Stevens' Majicat Tour and many many more.
I recently worked on Nick Cave and John Hillcoat's Feature film "The Proposition" Starring John Hurt and Ray Winstone, DI work and grading the HD master on the Quantel Pablo system, I also worked on Sweeny Todd.
I was a Senior Editor at Rushes in London for about six years where I worked on many award winning TV Commercials and Music promos with some of the cream of Londons Directors and agencies.

On 29th April 2013 The Irish Music Rights Organisation (IMRO) honoured 6 songwriters and composers by inducting them into the IMRO Academy.
Paul Brady, Phil Coulter, Pete St. John, Ray Harman, Shay Healy and Jimmy MacCarthy had their contribution to Irish music acknowledged at a ceremony in Dublin's Conrad Hotel.
The IMRO Academy's mission is to celebrate and mark the successes of Ireland's iconic songwriters and composers who have made a very significant cultural and social impact in Ireland and/or internationally.
Launched in 2011, Bill Whelan, best known as the composer of Riverdance and Brendan Graham, co-author of the hugely successful song, 'You Raise Me Up' became the first inductees to the Academy. Both have contributed enormously to the recognition of Ireland across the world through their extensive music repertoire
Of the awards Keith Donald, IMRO Chairman, states, "Once again the IMRO Academy is honouring songwriters and composers who are at the forefront of Ireland's great tradition of creativity. It is a very important ingredient in fostering our reputation of being a dynamic and culturally rich nation. The IMRO Academy shines a light on these iconic music creators who continue to inspire, entertain and make sense of the world in which we live.
"I am delighted to be part of this induction ceremony for some of Ireland's most successful and revered composers and I welcome this talented expansion of the IMRO Academy" added Bill Whelan.
"The songs and music of these six Irish songwriters have sailed far beyond the shores of Ireland. They have touched hearts, engaged emotions, and brought joy to people everywhere. Recorded by some of the greatest artistes of our times, they have been heard -- and sung along to -- by millions of people. They have climbed the pop charts, rocked stadia and brought Eurovision victory to Ireland. On our TV screens they have had us at the edge of our seats and they have become anthems helping us to win many a football and rugby match! They have also given us moments of reflection, of spiritual understanding, of insight into ourselves. By reaching into their own hearts these six, gifted crafters of song have touched our hearts. On 29th April 2013 The Irish Music Rights Organisation (IMRO) honoured 6 songwriters and composers by inducting them into the IMRO Academy.
Paul Brady, Phil Coulter, Pete St. John, Ray Harman, Shay Healy and Jimmy MacCarthy had their contribution to Irish music acknowledged at a ceremony in Dublin's Conrad Hotel.
The IMRO Academy's mission is to celebrate and mark the successes of Ireland's iconic songwriters and composers who have made a very significant cultural and social impact in Ireland and/or internationally.
Launched in 2011, Bill Whelan, best known as the composer of Riverdance and Brendan Graham, co-author of the hugely successful song, 'You Raise Me Up' became the first inductees to the Academy. Both have contributed enormously to the recognition of Ireland across the world through their extensive music repertoire
Of the awards Keith Donald, IMRO Chairman, states, "Once again the IMRO Academy is honouring songwriters and composers who are at the forefront of Ireland's great tradition of creativity. It is a very important ingredient in fostering our reputation of being a dynamic and culturally rich nation. The IMRO Academy shines a light on these iconic music creators who continue to inspire, entertain and make sense of the world in which we live.
"I am delighted to be part of this induction ceremony for some of Ireland's most successful and revered composers and I welcome this talented expansion of the IMRO Academy" added Bill Whelan.
"The songs and music of these six Irish songwriters have sailed far beyond the shores of Ireland. They have touched hearts, engaged emotions, and brought joy to people everywhere. Recorded by some of the greatest artistes of our times, they have been heard -- and sung along to -- by millions of people. They have climbed the pop charts, rocked stadia and brought Eurovision victory to Ireland. On our TV screens they have had us at the edge of our seats and they have become anthems helping us to win many a football and rugby match! They have also given us moments of reflection, of spiritual understanding, of insight into ourselves. By reaching into their own hearts these six, gifted crafters of song have touched our hearts. Ireland and the world are the richer for what they have given us and tonight we, their fellow songwriters, salute and honour their gift... and its gifting" added Brendan Graham.

Graham Harman (born May 9, 1968) is a professor at the American University in Cairo, Egypt. He is a contemporary philosopher of metaphysics, who attempts to reverse the linguistic turn of Western philosophy. Harman is associated with Speculative Realism in philosophy, which was the name of a workshop that also included the philosophers Ray Brassier, Iain Hamilton Grant, and Quentin Meillassoux.
Central to Harman's philosophy is the idea that real objects are inexhaustible: "A police officer eating a banana reduces this fruit to a present-at-hand profile of its elusive depth, as do a monkey eating the same banana, a parasite infecting it, or a gust of wind blowing it from a tree. Banana-being is a genuine reality in the world, a reality never exhausted by any relation to it by humans or other entities." (Harman 2005: 74). Because of this inexhaustibility, claims Harman, there is a metaphysical problem regarding how two objects can ever interact. His solution to this problem is to introduce the notion of "vicarious causation", according to which objects can only ever interact on the inside of an "intention" (which is also an object).
His works include Tool-Being: Heidegger and the Metaphysics of Objects (2002), Towards Speculative Realism: Essays and Lectures (2010), Circus Philosophicus (2010), Weird Realism: Lovecraft and Philosophy (2012) and Bells and Whistles: More Speculative Realism (2013).

I recently worked on Nick Cave and John Hillcoat's Feature film "The Proposition" Starring John Hurt and Ray Winstone, DI work and grading the HD master on the Quantel Pablo system, I also worked on Sweeny Todd.

Time Over Distance Over Time sees a cast of six performers wrestle with the physical and emotional distances they now encounter while living at opposite ends of the planet. Digital technology is the lifeline; but ultimately a poor substitute for the full presence of a person, standing beside you,understanding you not just from what you say but from the myriad of physical information and messages that enhance our experience of each other. Working with an exceptional creative team who will be developing new interactive visual design, film, music and light compositions, the performers explore their constantly fragmenting and suspending physicality in relation to preserving their relationship to each other over distance and time.
The collaborating artists are based between Ireland and Australia:

During a recent change of life event the mud bog family came together and held a mud bog event called "Getting Dirty for a Cause" to raise funds and help with the new life style I have acquired which I am so great full never thinking that with almost 1400 videos on our YT Channel I have touch so many people that they organized a fund raising event for me. So blessed at what they have done. I thought I was alone but thats obviously not true. Thank You to everyone involved.

Around 3,000 firefighters in California battled major wildfires after the end of a five-year drought across the state, as it was gripped by a record-breaking heatwave.
