Terrorists are now holding up to 20 hostages in an armed siege at a cafe in Sydney, where a black Islamic flag was celebrated in a window.
Witnesses reported seeing staff and sobbing as customers were forced to stay with hands pressed against the windows of the Lindt cafe in Martin Place.
There are unconfirmed reports that one of the kidnappers contacted police saying he has "devices throughout the city" and "wants to talk with Prime Minister live on radio ', according to Ray Hadley, 2 GB.
Until two gunmen involved in the siege, but dozens of armed police have cordoned off the streets around the site. It is believed that an armed man having a shotgun and possibly an explosive device.
The incident began just hours after a suspect 25-year-old was arrested in a raid terror in Sydney.
The authorities have also evacuated to the Opera House after reports of a suspicious device.
Martin Place has been closed and dozens of police surrounded the building after the alarm about 9:45 am he.
Journalist Chris Kenny, who was in the store about 20 minutes before the start of the siege, said he understood the automatic sliding glass doors had been disabled.
"I did talk to a couple of people who saw a little more of this unfold what I did," he said.
'One woman said she tried to go to the store just after I left with my coffee to go, but the doors would not open.
"So obviously that is doing this have disabled the automatic glass sliding doors to stop any person who enters and she immediately said she could see it was a weapon.
'The woman was pretty hectic but very clear what she was saying (the police).
"I know the faces of people who are sitting there enjoying a morning coffee.
The newsroom Seven Network, which is in a building opposite the café, has been evacuated and other buildings in Martin Place, including the Westpac building close, have been cleared.
"We are recommending anyone Martin Place is near, at the time," said a police spokesman in NSW.
Martin Place railway station has been closed and Qantas announced that all flights had been diverted around the center of Sydney.
A staff member of the Reserve Bank of Australia told Daily Mail could not be evacuated because Martin Place was closed. The staff have been told to stay away from windows.
Another woman who works at the government building opposite the cafeteria tried to call his office to tell him he could not get past the cords and all the phone lines were down.
Patients from nearby Sydney hospitals patients are also being evacuated.
Rodrigo Channel Seven Neryt reached for her first day of work experience when he heard shouting out in front of the cafeteria.
"I was in the corner, where it all began. I saw people screaming and shouting and two police cars arrived. I saw what looked like a black flag and were holding ISIS '
John Edwards works across the road from the cafe on the ninth floor of 53 Martin Place.
It was alleged that omarjan Azari, the 22-year-old Sydney man arrested on terrorism charges in September, was planning a public beheading in Martin Place.
The alleged terrorist plot, mentioned in a conversation between recruiter Australia terrorism in Syria, Mohammad Ali Barylei and Azari, involved selecting a random audience member, beheaded and then covering his body on a banner.
The whole incident was to be filmed, and then used as propaganda for the ISIS cause.
Federal prosecutors said the alleged terrorist plot was "clearly designed to surprise, horror and terrorize the community '
Prosecutor Michael Allnutt Police said Azari had made a threat involving a 'random selection of people to run "during a telephone conversation with Baryalei.
Azari was arrested Sept. 18 and charged with preparing an act of terrorism.
He is due in court this week for a bail application.
The flag is held in the window of the cafe is believed to be a Shahada flag, which is used by the group, Jabhat the Nusra.
