Duarte Barbosa (Lisbon, Portugal - † 1521, Philippines) was a Portuguese writer and Portuguese India officer between 1500 and 1516–17, with the post of scrivener in Cannanore factory and sometimes interpreter of the local language (malayalam). His "Book of Duarte Barbosa" (Livro de Duarte Barbosa) is one of the earliest examples of Portuguese travel literature, written circa 1516, shortly after the arrival in the Indian Ocean. In 1519 Duarte Barbosa embarked on the first expedition to circumnavigate the world, led by his brother-in-law Ferdinand Magellan, dying in 1521 at the feast of rajah Humabon in Cebu at the Philippines.

Samuel Bouriah (born 19 October 1969), professionally known as DJ Sammy is a DJ and producer. He has released five albums and has had five Top 10 hits with "Heaven" reaching number one in the UK in 2002. His career started with former spouse Marie José in the making of his first singles, under the stage name of DJ Sammy feat. Carisma. He has one daughter, Saphira María (born 10 February 2005) from his marriage with José.

DJ Sammy started his music career in 1984 in the dance clubs of Mallorca, playing gigs at clubs such as Alexandra's (rebuilt around 1998/99 and renamed to Boomerang's), Banana's and Zorba's. During this time he completed training as a sound technician at the Majorca Music College. He was also a DJ at the Cadena Top radio station. In 1991, he met dancer, Marie José, and they performed at Zorba's Club in Palma. In 1992, DJ Sammy became resident DJ at the Joy Palace Club in Arenal and Marie Jose was a resident dancer there.

In November 1995, DJ Sammy released his first single "Life Is Just a Game" with Marie José who started singing. The track became a Top 10 hit in the Spanish record chart. Other singles, such as "You're My Angel" and "Prince of Love", have been popular in the German record chart. In June 1998, DJ Sammy released his debut album, Life Is Just a Game.

Adoniran Barbosa, artistic name of João Rubinato (6 August 1910, Valinhos - 23 November 1982, São Paulo), was a famous Brazilian São Paulo style samba singer and composer.

João Rubinato was the seventh child of Emma and Ferdinando Rubinato, Italian immigrants from Cavarzere (province of Venice). His parents had settled in Valinhos, a rural town in the state of São Paulo, about 70 km from the city of São Paulo. In 2010, two bridges were named after Rubinato: one located in Valinhos, Brazil, where the singer was born, and another in Cavarzere, Italy, where his parents came from.

He is said to have been a rather reluctant student, and started working at an early age (which required falsifying his birth date). His first job was a sweeper boy and general helper at a railway company in the nearby town of Jundiaí. In 1924 he moved to Santo André, a town in the Greater São Paulo area, where he went through many jobs — loom operator, painter, plumber, iron worker, peddler and waiter. At a local technical school (the Liceu de Artes e Ofícios) he learned the office of mechanical assistant.
