Kenya ( /ˈkɛnjə/ or /ˈkiːnjə/), officially the Republic of Kenya, is a country in East Africa that lies on the equator. With the Indian Ocean to its south-east, it is bordered by Tanzania to the south, Uganda to the west, South Sudan to the north-west, Ethiopia to the north and Somalia to the north-east. Kenya has a land area of 580,000 km2 and a population of nearly 41 million, representing 42 different peoples and cultures. The country is named after Mount Kenya, a significant landmark and second among Africa's highest mountain peaks. Kenya's capital and largest city is Nairobi.
Kenya has a warm and humid climate along its coastline on the Indian Ocean which changes to wildlife-rich savannah grasslands moving inland towards the capital Nairobi. Nairobi has a cool climate that gets colder approaching Mount Kenya, which has three permanently snow-capped peaks. The warm and humid tropical climate reappears further inland towards lake Victoria, before giving way to temperate forested and hilly areas in the western region. The North Eastern regions along the border with Somalia and Ethiopia are arid and semi-arid areas with near-desert landscapes. Lake Victoria, the world's second largest fresh-water lake (after Lake Superior in the US and Canada) and the world's largest tropical lake, is situated to the southwest and is shared with Uganda and Tanzania. Kenya is famous for its safaris and diverse world-famous wildlife reserves such as Tsavo National Park, the Maasai Mara, Nakuru National Park, and Aberdares National Park.
Roger Whittaker (born 22 March 1936) is an Anglo-Kenyan singer-songwriter and musician. His music can be described as easy listening. He is best known for his baritone singing voice and trademark whistling ability. American audiences are most familiar with his 1970 hit "New World in the Morning" and his 1975 hit "The Last Farewell," the latter of which is his only single to hit the Billboard Hot 100 (it made the Top 20) and also hit #1 on the Adult Contemporary chart.
Whittaker's parents, Edward and Viola, were originally from Staffordshire, England, where they owned and operated a grocery shop. His father had a motorcycle accident and the family moved to a farm near Thika, Kenya because of the warmer climate. His grandfather sang in various clubs and his father played the violin. Roger learned to play the guitar.
Whittaker was drafted into national service and spent two years in the Kenya Regiment. In 1956 he was demobilized and decided on a career in medicine. He enrolled at the University of Cape Town in South Africa.

Boniface Mwangi (born July 10, 1983) is an award-winning[1][2][3] Kenyan photojournalist making a name for his social-political activism under the banner, Kenya Ni Kwetu (Kenya is our Home). The Nairobi-based lobby strives to enable a patriotic citizens’ movement to take bold and effective actions in building a new Kenya. He is popular for his stunning images on the post-election violence that hit Kenya in 2007-2008. He is also the founder of Picha Mtaani,[4] a youth-led peace initiative that primarily seeks to create space for young people to reconcile and become agents of reconciliation to their respective communities.[5]

Mwangi was born in Taveta, on the Kenya-Tanzania border. His mother was a businesswoman who traded across the border. Mwangi was moved to live with his grandparents home in Nyeri, Central Kenya, when he was six years old. He would encounter linguistic challenges, having mastered Kiswahili at birth – the country's national language that’s widely spoken across East and Central Africa – although Gikuyu is the language most spoken in Central Kenya.
Mwangi later moved with his mother to live in Nairobi’s low-income suburb of Ngara, then Highrise in Majengo, Githurai 45, before finally settling in Pangani. Mwangi dropped in and out of school during this period and helped his mother vend books to raise money for basic needs.[4]
When his mother died in 2000, Mwangi, then 17, reviewed his life and decided he had to change his ways if he was to survive the vicissitudes of life. He joined a Bible school and secured a diploma in Bible Studies. It was while at the school that he would discover he had an interest in photography. One of his teachers, having noticed Mwangi’s interest in photography, gave him two texts that would alter the direction of his life. These were the biographies of Mohamed Amin, the Kenyan photographer hailed as one of the greatest photojournalists of the 20th century.[6]
Mwangi joined the East African School of Journalism, he was studying in the morning while rushing back to the streets to sell books in the streets at night so that he could pay his fees. The school had no cameras to train students and the photography class was a mere two hours of theory class twice a week. He hired a camera and started practicing what he learned in class. He focused his work on the poverty and the deprivation in Kenyan slums, the resilience of the vendors on the streets, the brutality of policemen and women on ordinary citizens.
Mwangi started contributing to The Standard newspaper on a freelance level before he eventually secured employment at the newspaper, which is the oldest newspaper in Kenya.
The next few years was a productive period for Mwangi. He tracked a police crackdown on the unlawful gang, Mungiki, winning his first, and Kenya’s CNN African Photojournalist of the Year Award in 2008.[7]
In the event, the Mungiki pictures[8] proved to be only a dress rehearsal for the chaos that followed in the aftermath of the disputed Kenyan presidential election, 2007. Gang warfare in the slums, as well as their clashes with the police – with innocent Kenyans caught in the crossfire – transformed the impoverished hamlets into rivers of blood. Mwangi captured the horrific scenes on film, as well as the pogrom in other restive parts caught in post-poll mayhem.
The images shocked and troubled the world, from Europe to North America, where leading media houses splashed Mwangi’s images. Mwangi’s own newspaper used his images selectively, a form of self-censorship that motivated Mwangi’s next course of action.
Mwangi is married with three children – two boys and one girl – to whom he has given pan-African names that celebrate humanity, and thankfulness for surviving thus far.

Mebrahtom "Meb" Keflezighi ( /ˈmɛb kəˈflɛzɡi/; Ge'ez: መብራህቶም ክፍልእዝጊ mebrāhtōm kifl'igzī; born May 5, 1975 in Asmara, Eritrea) is an American athlete, specializing in long distance running. He and his family were refugees from Eritrea via Italy to the United States, when he was age 12. He began running while in an American Junior High School in San Diego, going on to win both the 1600 meters and 3200 meters at the CIF California State Championships in 1994 for San Diego High School.
The distinction of Meb's homegrown American running history differentiated him from other African-born elite athletes, such as Bernard Lagat, whose change of domicile and citizenship had been for largely competitive reasons. Meb Keflezighi became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1998, the same year in which he graduated from UCLA. While at UCLA Meb received numerous All-American awards and other accolades. He won four NCAA championships during the 1996-97 season, including the cross-country title, the 10,000 meters outdoors and the 5000 meters indoors and outdoors titles in track.
Rita Jeptoo Sitienei (born 15 February 1981 in Eldoret) is a Kenyan marathon runner. She won the 2006 Boston Marathon, setting her personal best of 2:23:38 hours. She has also won marathons in Stockholm and Milan, as well as having represented Kenya in the event at the 2007 World Championships in Athletics. She was the bronze medallist at the 2006 IAAF World Road Running Championships.
Jeptoo won the 2004 Stockholm Marathon, her first marathon race, and then took a consecutive victory at the Milan Marathon. She finished third in the 2005 Turin Marathon and seventh at the 2005 World Championships. The next year she competed over shorter distances, taking the title at the Paris Half Marathon and winning the bronze medal at the 2006 World Road Running Championships.
Her personal best time of 2:23:38 hours came at the 2006 Boston Marathon, where she defeated all comers to win the prestigious race. She was fourth at the New York City Marathon that same year. In 2007, she finished fourth in Boston, attempting to defend her title, and was quoted as saying, "I never felt good in the cold. I couldn't get my body in a rhythm." She won the Lisbon Half Marathon and Paris Half Marathon that year, later going on to take seventh place in the marathon at the 2007 World Championships in Athletics. She ended her 2007 with a new course record at the Obudu Ranch International Mountain Race, earning US$50,000 as a result.
Everybody at the party is a many sided polygon
When a guest arrives
They will count how many sides it has on
Standing by the window over there
There is a shape with four sides, so it's a square
And the one who has nine is looking fine
And its name is Nonagon
Everybody turns just in time to see the pentagon arrive
Counting up the sides, it is clear the pentagon has five
Chatting in the kitchen we see
There is a triangle whose sides number three
And is talking to the shape that has nine
Who is known as Nonagon
Nonagon
Nonagon, lets in a guest who has shown up late
Its name is Octagon and its sides add up to eight
Turning the music on is a six sided hexagon
And they all get in a line and do
A dance called, 'the Nonagon
The Nonagon
[Intro/Verse1]
It's been so long,
that I haven't seen your face,
I'm trying to be strong,
but the strength I have is washing away.
it won't be long,
before I get you by my side,
& just hold you, tease you, squeeze you, tell you whats been on my mind.
[Chorus]
I wanna make up right now na na,
I wanna make up right now na na,
wish we never broke up right now na na,
we need to link up right now na na,
I wanna make up right now na na,
I wanna make up right now na na,
wish we never broke up right now na na,
we need to link up right now na na,
[Verse2]
Girl I know, mistakes were made between us two,
& we showed,
our eyes that night, even said somethings weren't true,
why'd you go?
I haven't seen my girl since then,
why can't it be the way it was,
cause you were my Homie, lover, and friend...
[Chorus]
I wanna make up right now na na,
I wanna make up right now na na,
wish we never broke up right now na na,
we need to link up right now na na,
I wanna make up right now na na,
I wanna make up right now na na,
wish we never broke up right now na na,
we need to link up right now na na,
[Bridge]
I can't lie, [miss you much]
watching everyday that goes by, [ I miss you much ]
til I get you back I'm gon' try, [ yes I miss you much ]
cuz you are the apple of my eye, [ girl I miss you much ]
I can't lie, [ I miss you much ]
watching everyday that goes by, [ I miss you much ]
til I get you back I'm gon' try, [ yes I miss you much ]
cuz you are the apple of my eye. [ girl I miss you much ]
[Chorus]
I wanna make up right now na na,
I wanna make up right now na na,
wish we never broke up right now na na,
we need to link up right now na na,
I wanna make up right now na na,
I wanna make up right now na na,
wish we never broke up right now na na,
we need to link up right now na na,
[Outro]
I want you to fly with me, [ want you to fly ]
I miss how you lie with me, [ miss how you lie ]
just wish you could dine with me, [ wish you could dine with me ]
the one that'll grind with me, [ said the one that will grind with me ]
I want you to fly with me, [ want you to fly ]
I miss how you lie with me, [ ohh miss how you lie ]
just wish you could dine with me, [ wish you could dine ]
the one that'll grind with me. [ ohh the one that'll grind]...
[Chorus]
I wanna make up right now na na,
I wanna make up right now na na,
wish we never broke up right now na na,
we need to link up right now na na,
I wanna make up right now na na,
I wanna make up right now na na,
wish we never broke up right now na na,
You landed in my life
Like a new and brighter light
That made all my past seem in shadow
I always used to believe
That beauty was skin deep
But I need a new word to describe you
And the time that it took to take down the wall
Was the that it took for me to fall
Hopelessly weak
No one can take you away from me now
Don't worry if they take me away
No one can take you away from me now
Don't matter how long we have to wait
The days before you came
Were really all the same
A greyness I used to call freedom
Endless nights out with the boys
The boasting and the noise
To think that I ever believed them
No one can take you away from me now
Don't worry if they take me away
No one can take you away from me now
Don't matter how long we have to wait
I don't care what they think
You're all I believe in
I carry you here
And there's something of you
In everything I love
No one can take you away from me now
Don't worry if they take me away
No one can take you away from me now
Don't matter how long we have to wait
I am the one
I am the only one that I care about
She is the one
She was always the one to go running around in another land
She go home
I am the one
I am always the one that I recognise
And you are the one for me
Always the one
I go running around in another land
I go home too
Will you miss me when I'm gone?
I'll take on to know that I was so
If you want to run away
I'll take back all that I'll say
I'll take on to know that I was so
I am the one
I am always the one to be recognised
She was the one
She was always the one to go running around in another land
She go home too
Will you miss me when I'm all gone?
I'll take on to know that I was so
Well you want to run away
I'll take back all that I'll say
I'll take on to know that I was so
I saw the full moon sinking
I saw the full moon sinking
If you want to run away
I'll take back all that I'll say
I'll take on to know that I was so
Well she wants to look away
She wants to run away
I'll take on to know that I was so
I saw the full moon sinking
Don't be afraid he said
When he took his hand
Slowly drove him mad when
He filled his head with sand
No one knew
Not even mother dear
She just cleaned her shelves
Her mind was struck with fear
Several years went by but
Nothing changed at all
Once I thought I heard the boy cry
Thought he took a fall but no
No one knew
What went on
Until it was too late
He shot him
No one knew
Anything about you
No one knew
Anything
And in the end
Everything seemed lost
He could not defend
Oh, his right to live
No, no, no, no
No one knew
Anything about you
No one knew

I got a car and it doesn't drive
all over town
but with the right attitude it's gonna come alive
all over town
I'll hit the gas and drive so fast
they'll all respect me when they can't catch me
NO ENGINE, NO PROBLEM
GOT A DREAM, GASOLINE, GOING ANYWHERE
NO ENGINE, NO PROBLEM
GOT A DREAM, GASOLINE, GOING ANYWHERE
every day of my life I work on that car
all over town
and then the harder I work the more it seems to break down
all over town
I hear them laugh whenever they pass
but they'll all respect me when they can't catch me
NO ENGINE, NO PROBLEM
GOT A DREAM, GASOLINE, GOING ANYWHERE
NO ENGINE, NO PROBLEM
GOT A DREAM, GASOLINE, GOING ANYWHERE
but one day I'll ride off in the sunset, sayonara to the 4B exit
from the parkway, to the turnpike, the expressway, they're all alike
but I'm different, I am desert, headed west bound with the top down
I'll send postcards, best wishes, dropping all hits, there will be no misses
NO ENGINE, NO PROBLEM
GOT A DREAM, GASOLINE, GOING ANYWHERE
NO ENGINE, NO PROBLEM
GOT A DREAM, GASOLINE, GOING ANYWHERE
ONE DAY I'LL RIDE OFF IN THE SUNSET
