The East End of London, also known simply as the East End, is the area of London, England, east of the medieval walled City of London and north of the River Thames. Although not defined by universally accepted formal boundaries, the River Lea can be considered another boundary. For the purposes of his book, East End Past, Richard Tames regards the area as coterminous with the London Borough of Tower Hamlets: however, he acknowledges that this narrow definition excludes parts of southern Hackney, such as Shoreditch and Hoxton, which many would regard as belonging to the East End. Others again, such as Alan Palmer, would extend the area across the Lea to include parts of the London Borough of Newham; while parts of the London Borough of Waltham Forest are also sometimes included. It is universally agreed, however, that the East End is to be distinguished from East London, which covers a much wider area.

Use of the term East End in a pejorative sense began in the late 19th century, as the expansion of the population of London led to extreme overcrowding throughout the area and a concentration of poor people and immigrants. The problems were exacerbated with the construction of St Katharine Docks (1827) and the central London railway termini (1840–1875) that caused the clearance of former slums and rookeries, with many of the displaced people moving into the East End. Over the course of a century, the East End became synonymous with poverty, overcrowding, disease and criminality.

London ⁱ/ˈlʌndən/ is the capital city of England and the United Kingdom, the largest metropolitan area in the United Kingdom, and the largest urban zone in the European Union by most measures. Located on the River Thames, London has been a major settlement for two millennia, its history going back to its founding by the Romans, who named it Londinium. London's ancient core, the City of London, largely retains its square-mile mediaeval boundaries. Since at least the 19th century, the name London has also referred to the metropolis developed around this core. The bulk of this conurbation forms the London region and the Greater London administrative area, governed by the elected Mayor of London and the London Assembly.

London is a leading global city, with strengths in the arts, commerce, education, entertainment, fashion, finance, healthcare, media, professional services, research and development, tourism and transport all contributing to its prominence. It is the world's leading financial centre alongside New York City and has the fifth-largest city GDP in the world (and the largest in Europe). London has been described as a world cultural capital. It was the world's most visited city during 2011 and London Heathrow is the world's busiest airport by number of international passengers. London's 43 universities form the largest concentration of higher education in Europe. In 2012 London will become the first city to host the modern Summer Olympic Games three times.

EastEnd Cabaret are a musical comedy cabaret duo based in London, England, formed in late 2009.

EastEnd Cabaret are Bernadette Byrne (played by Jennifer Byrne), a European chanteuse of mysterious origin, and Victor Victoria (Victoria Falconer-Pritchard), a faux-bilateral hermaphrodite reminiscent of the "sideshow" male/female Josephine Joseph. They are known for their mix of original songs and re-appropriated covers including songs from Radiohead and Right Said Fred.

In an article celebrating the resurgence of cabaret, the duo were named as one of Time Out Magazine's ten "Cabaret Superstars" in January 2011, featured on the front cover and crowned 'the queens of musical smut'. The magazine itself was published with a series of ten different front covers, featuring David Hoyle, Le Gateaux Chocolat, Jonny Woo and Dusty Limits amongst others.

EastEnd Cabaret debuted at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August 2011 with their full-length show, The Revolution Will Be Sexual, receiving widespread critical acclaim and a transfer to London at the Arcola Theatre's new pop-up performance space, The Tent. The show will continue to tour in 2012.
