Brianna Barnes visits Britain's exciting capital city which seamlessly blends its rich and varied history with a modern day culture which is perpetually evolving into the London of today. Beginning her tour at the iconic Buckingham Palace, home to the Queen of England and various Royal Family members, we see the changing of the guards before heading over to Soho for a spot of afternoon tea above a traditional London pub. Next Brianna heads over to the National Gallery, home to over 2,000 paintings and one of Europe's finest collections of art. Day two and our roving host heads to the East End to check out the fashionable Spitalfields Market and try out a British favorite dish 'Bangers & Mash' served at the nearby S&M; café. Brianna next takes a tour of London's street art and checks out some of the modern-day masterpieces by famous British street-artist Banksy and his contemporaries before heading to the Town Hall hotel in Bethnal Green which has stood since Edwardian times and boasts luxury suites costing up to £2,500 ($3,900) a night. Beginning the following day with breakfast at the famous Ritz Hotel, Brianna heads out into Mayfair to check out some of London's finest retail establishments such as Berry bros wine shop, Lobb the bootmakers, and Lock Hatters - the oldest hat-makers in London. They all have royal warrants due to their popularity with the royal family. Moving on to Covent Garden we take a look inside the London Transport Museum - home to over 370,000 objects concerning urban transport and London's wealth of transportation history. Using one of the oldest, and one of the most popular ways to get around London, Brianna takes the number 15 heritage bus through some top locations in central London. She also jumps on a bicycle and heads along the canal from Regent's Park all the way to the Olympic Stadium via Camden Lock. Taking advantage of the wealth of transportation links in and out of London, Brianna heads out on a day trip by rail to one of the many historic towns which sit less than an hour's ride away. The following day Brianna takes a day-trip to Oxford, home to one of the most famous Universities in the world, and takes a tour of the largest of all the Oxford colleges Christchurch, with its awe inspiring architecture and beautiful surroundings. After checking out the markets and ascending to the top of Carfax Tower, we check out the most traditional way to see Oxford, via a punt and find out just how easy punting along the river is. Back in London, and back on the river Thames, we check out Lambeth Palace opposite the Houses of Parliament and the Garden Museum next to it before speeding off down the river on a boat to Greenwich to check out the Royal Naval College, Queen's House, and the Royal Observatory. We then head over to the Tate Modern, a magnificent converted power station housing contemporary exhibitions of art dating from 1900 to today. After a day trip spent in Buckinghamshire visiting Cliveden House -- a stately home which sits on the Thames, we take a trip to the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew, home to the biggest botanical collection in the world before checking out the delights of 1,000 hectare area Richmond Park via horseback before rounding off the day in the Victoria Inn, famous for being the smallest pub in Richmond. In her final day in London, Brianna rounds off the trip with a visit to the annual Thames Festival and hires one of the hundreds of rental bikes available to check out the festivities which include a feast on Southwark bridge, carnival style dancing, and a night time firework display.

http://www.expedia.com/London.d178279.Destination-Travel-Guides A trip to London might as well be a trip through history. This city has long been a hub for finance, education, and culture, and is full of modern construction mixed with ancient buildings. You’ll also want to see the Tower of London, the Palace of Westminster, and Westminster Abbey for exquisite examples of the city’s famous architectural landmarks. Walk or jog through numerous green spaces, among them Hyde Park and Green Park, in the center of London. Travel video about destination London in England. London is an exciting and pulsating metropolis of the new millennium, a melting pot of both people and culture and a fascinating city of diverse contrasts. The City Of London contains the Tower, an historic landmark with a remarkable history. A mighty medieval fortress with 13 towers that throughout its 900 years, has served many functions and from the Middle Ages, it was a heavily fortified prison. After the medieval St. Paul's Cathedral was destroyed by a devastating fire in 1666, Christopher Wren was ordered to re-build it with a dome. During the 36 years of its construction, its design was frequently altered until finally a wonderful masterpiece of church architecture was created. The Monument is the city's tallest freestanding stone column and a reminder of the Great Fire of London that destroyed 80 percent of the city. In four days, more than 13,000 buildings were destroyed and the Monument was built on the site of the bakery in which the fire began. Since the reign of Queen Victoria, Buckingham Palace has served as London's royal residence. A garden of mulberry trees once grew on the site of today's palace and the Duke of Buckingham subsequently added a simple brick built residence. Around 60 years later, George II purchased the site for his wife and George IV eventually began to design an extensive palace complex. The highlight of any holiday in London must be the largest Ferris wheel in the world, the London Eye. Situated on the banks of the Thames, it rises high into the sky, opposite the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben. The former centre of the largest empire in the world, London is still a city of superlatives that attracts millions of visitors each year. Exciting both day and night, London is a modern city with age old traditions and a long and colorful history.

Here it is, our pilot episode! Why am I doing this? I travel a lot. Too much. And recently I find myself rocking up in a city that I've never been to before and know very little about. On any level. Culture, language, transport, money, food, etc. But most travel shows are an hour-long, US-centric, full of bad information, and almost exclusively aimed at tourists. So I wanted to create something different. Something aimed at the frequent traveller, something portable and short-form. Something...useful. In our pilot episode we get you in, out, and around the wonderful city of London, England. We tell you the best way to get from the airport into the city, the best way to get around, how much things cost, and why you should ALWAYS stand on the right. In follow up episodes we'll be adding a food and drink segment, as well as tips on how to avoid those awkward social and business faux pas. I really appreciate you taking the time to watch this and welcome any thoughts, feedback, ideas, and suggestions for future episodes. Travel is my passion and I'm excited to share it with you. Oh and don't forget to subscribe for new episodes in a city near you! Follow us on Twitter https://twitter.com/attache_travel Currency conversion tool: http://www.xe.com/

The sleepy residential suburb is conveniently located in South London and thanks to it's excellent transport links, it only takes 15 minutes to get here. Clapham high street is a great place to buy some gifts, there's a wide range of varied and exciting shops to check out. I also visited the 24 hour market on Venn Street. It's a great place to pick up some locally grown vegetables and freshly baked goods. Many travel to Clapham for a break from the hustle and bustle of the city and if peace and quiet is what you're after then Clapham Common is the place for you. Anglo Saxons first settled on the common in 1887, now-a-days it's used purely for recreation and hosts many music festival. Whether you're into football or dogging, there's something for everyone on the common. Well I had a lovely day in Clapham and I'd highly recommend it to anyone. __________ Music: http://audiojungle.net/item/spanish-rhythmic-guitar/151349 / http://audiojungle.net/item/spanish-summer-dance/2421901

Poulenc's 'La voix humaine' recorded 30 November 2013 at the Wathen Hall, Barnes, London. Richmond Orchestra conducted by Philip Hesketh Soprano soloist: Helen Winter La voix humaine ('The Human Voice') is a 40-minute one-act opera for soprano and orchestra composed by Francis Poulenc in 1958. The work is based on the play of the same name by Jean Cocteau, who, along with French soprano Denise Duval, worked closely with Poulenc in preparation for the opera's premiere. The libretto consists of a woman's last phone conversation with her lover, who now loves someone else. During the call, the woman reveals that she has attempted suicide because her lover has abandoned her. Synopsis: Elle, an actor, is waiting late in the evening for a phone call from her lover. The phone is on a party line and she is plagued by crossed lines, mistaken calls, uncooperative operators. At last he rings. She explains that she has just got in from dining at her friend Martha’s, that she and Martha had lunched together ,she had returned home and then been collected to return to Martha’s for the evening. She admits that the night before she had taken a sleeping pill, ‘No, just one, at nine thirty’. She says she is wearing her pink jacket and black hat- the one he adores. The tone suddenly changes. He asks her to return all their letters. She declares that she is calm and brave, and not pretending ,not putting on an act; that she is the cause of their disagreements. But surprised that he wants the letters by tomorrow. She says the letters will be with the concierge in the morning, ‘Just tell Joseph to collect them’. His phone goes very faint: ‘it doesn’t sound like your phone at all’. But she says she can see him, in cravat with his sleeves rolled up doodling hearts and stars on the blotter. And then she admits to being frighten to sleep alone, not daring to turn on the light in her dressing room at the theatre in case she is face to face with an ugly old woman with thinning hair and ‘hideous wrinkles’. She tells him it is lucky that he is gullible and in love with her , else the phone ‘could easily become a terrible weapon that would leave no trace and not make a sound.’ They are cut off. She gives the operator his telephone number. Only to find for his man servant Joseph that he is not at home nor is he coming home tonight. Covering her tracks she says, ‘Monsieur must have rung me from a restaurant.. Excuse me Joseph. Thank you. Good evening Joseph.’ Her lover rings again. Her tone voice betrays her realisation of the truth. She denies that anything is wrong. That she has told any lies. And then she admits that she has been lying for the past quarter of an hour: she is not wearing her jacket, just a wrap over her nightie, she did not have dinner with Martha and that she has been waiting all evening for his call, even contemplating going to stand underneath his window, ‘in the hope that...’ She tells him that last night she took half a dozen sleeping pills hoping to sleep dreamlessly forever. But she did dream and woke to the realization that she was abandoned. At four in the morning she spoke to Martha who came over with a doctor. She says that Martha stayed until the evening. Elle begs her to go lest she is prevented from speaking to her lover. But as they talk Elle hears music on the line: ‘you should knock against the wall…if your neighbours insist on playing music at this time of night.’ She explains that the night before last she went to bed hugging the phone, the friend that is the connection between her and he alone who for the last five years has been her inspiration, he around whom all her waking moments have revolved. They are cut off again. He rings again. She says that she thought they were talking as before but then she realised the truth and that ‘when affairs are over they are over’. The phone goes dead again. ‘My God, make him call back!’ He calls: she tells him the receiver cord is round her throat, ‘It would only take an error to cut us both off.’ He tells her he is going tomorrow to Marseille with his new love. She pleads that they do not go to the same hotel, ‘the one where we used to stay together.’ She thanks him, she says she loves him; by force of habit she says that she will see him soon. But it is too late. ‘Just hang up. Hang up. Quickly. I love you. I love you, I love you… love you.’ The phone falls from her hand.

It's a year since one of the best jazz venues in London was relaunched. The Bull's Head in Barnes, which very nearly folded last year when the owner retired, was rescued and revamped by Geronimo Inns. Building on a fifty year reputation that boasts the likes of Mick Jagger and Humphrey Littleton among the roll call of performers, jazz impresario Larry Pryce took up the challenge of booking great bands every night of the week and twice on Sundays. He talks to Bridget Osborne.

CBC 2015-04-18London i/ˈlʌndən/ is the capital city of England and the United Kingdom, the largest metropolitan area in the United Kingdom, and the largest urban zone in the European Union by most measures. Located on the River Thames, London has been a major settlement for two millennia, its history going back to its founding by the Romans, who named it Londinium. London's ancient core, the City of London, largely retains its square-mile mediaeval boundaries. Since at least the 19th century, the name London has also referred to the metropolis developed around this core. The bulk of this conurbation forms the London region and the Greater London administrative area, governed by the elected Mayor of London and the London Assembly.
London is a leading global city, with strengths in the arts, commerce, education, entertainment, fashion, finance, healthcare, media, professional services, research and development, tourism and transport all contributing to its prominence. It is the world's leading financial centre alongside New York City and has the fifth-largest city GDP in the world (and the largest in Europe). London has been described as a world cultural capital. It was the world's most visited city during 2011 and London Heathrow is the world's busiest airport by number of international passengers. London's 43 universities form the largest concentration of higher education in Europe. In 2012 London will become the first city to host the modern Summer Olympic Games three times.
Captain America is a fictional character, a superhero who appears in comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character first appeared in Captain America Comics #1 (cover-dated March 1941), from Marvel Comics' 1940s predecessor, Timely Comics, and was created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby. As of 2007, an estimated 210 million copies of "Captain America" comic books had been sold in 75 countries. For nearly all of the character's publication history, Captain America was the alter ego of Steve Rogers, a frail young man who was enhanced to the peak of human perfection by an experimental serum in order to aid the United States war effort. Captain America wears a costume that bears an American flag motif, and is armed with an indestructible shield that can be thrown as a weapon.
An intentionally patriotic creation who was often depicted fighting the Axis powers of World War II, Captain America was Timely Comics' most popular character during the wartime period. After the war ended, the character's popularity waned and he disappeared by the 1950s aside from an ill-fated revival in 1953. Captain America was reintroduced during the Silver Age of comics when he was revived from suspended animation by the superhero team the Avengers in The Avengers #4 (March 1964). Since then, Captain America has often led the team, as well as starring in his own series.
Michael Joseph Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009) was an American recording artist, entertainer, and businessman. Often referred to as the King of Pop, or by his initials MJ, Jackson is recognized as the most successful entertainer of all time by Guinness World Records. His contribution to music, dance, and fashion, along with a much-publicized personal life, made him a global figure in popular culture for over four decades. The seventh child of the Jackson family, he debuted on the professional music scene along with his brothers as a member of The Jackson 5 in 1964, and began his solo career in 1971.
In the early 1980s, Jackson became a dominant figure in popular music. The music videos for his songs, including those of "Beat It", "Billie Jean", and "Thriller", were credited with transforming the medium into an art form and a promotional tool, and the popularity of these videos helped to bring the relatively new television channel MTV to fame. Videos such as "Black or White" and "Scream" made him a staple on MTV in the 1990s. Through stage performances and music videos, Jackson popularized a number of complicated dance techniques, such as the robot and the moonwalk, to which he gave the name. His distinctive musical sound and vocal style influenced numerous hip hop, post-disco, contemporary R&B, pop and rock artists.
