Have a good one she told me as she walked away
What a fine time to tell me to have a nice day
She's gone now but the words she said still linger on and on
Have a good one, thought I had one, I guess I was wrong
She could have said I'm sorry or darlin' please don't cry
But now there's tears each time I hear that cheerful goodbye
It's over but over and over it echoes all night long
Have a good one, thought I had one, I guess I was wrong
She could have said I'm sorry or darlin' please don't cry
But now there's tears each time I hear that cheerful goodbye
It's over but over and over it echoes all night long
Have a good one, thought I had one, I guess I was wrong
The moon is full, my arms are empty
All night long I've pleaded and cried
You always said the day that you would leave me
Would be a cold day in July
Your bags are packed, not a word is spoken
I guess we said everything with good-bye
Times move so slow and promises get broken
On this cold day in July
Sun's comin' up, comin' up down on Main street
Children shout as they're running out to play
Head in my hands here I am
Standin' in my bare feet
Watchin' you drive away
Watchin' you drive away
You said that we were gonna last forever
You said our love would never die
It looks like spring and
It feels like sunny weather
But it's a cold day in July
Oh sun's comin' up, comin' up
Down on Main street
Children shout as they're running out to play
Whoa head in my hands
Here I am standin' in my bare feet
Watchin' you drive away
Watchin' you drive away
The moon is full and my arms are empty
All night long how I've pleaded and cried
You always said the day that you would leave me
Would be a cold day in July
Here comes that cold day in July
Yeah
Oh yeah
La da da la da da la da da
You looked at me as only you can look at me
You touched my cheek and told me not to cry
But you said you'd found somebody you loved more than me
And you told me I'd forget you by and by
But you lied to me, yes you lied to me
You said time would close the wound that bled inside of me
But every breath I take brings back your memory
You said I'd forget you, but you lied to me
Monday, I said Tuesday you'd be off my mind
Then I gave myself 'til Wednesday then on down the line
Funny how September turns to June so fast
And you told me this pain was not the kind to last
But you lied to me, yes you lied to me
You said time would close the wound that bled inside of me
But every breath I take brings back your memory
You said I'd forget you, but you lied to me
I've sure enjoyed the rain
But I'm looking forward to the sun
You have to feel the pain when you lose the love you gave someone
I thought by now that time would take away these lonely tears
I hope you're doin' fine all alone but where do I go from here 'cause
Without you I'm not okay
And without you I've lost my way
My heart's stuck in second place ooh
Without you
Well I never thought I'd be lying here without you by my side
It seems unreal to me that the life you promised was a lie
You made it look so easy makin' love into memories
I guess you got what you wanted but what about me
Without you I'm not okay
And without you I've lost my way
My heart's stuck in second place ooh
Without you
Somebody tell my head to try to tell my heart
That I'm better off without you
'Cause baby I can't live
Without you I'm not okay
And without you I've lost my way
My heart's stuck in second place ooh
Without you
January's always bitter
But Lord this one beats all
The wind ain't quit for weeks now
And the drifts are ten feet tall
I been all night drivin' heifers
Closer in to lower ground
Then I spent the mornin' thinkin'
'Bout the ones the wolves pulled down
Charlie Barton and his family
Stopped today to say goodbye
He said the bank was takin' over
The last few years were just too dry
And I promised that I'd visit
When they found a place in town
Then I spent a long time thinkin'
'Bout the ones the wolves pull down
Lord please shine a light of hope
On those of us who fall behind
And when we stumble in the snow
Could you help us up while there's still time
Well I don't mean to be complainin' Lord
You've always seen me through
And I know you got your reasons
For each and every thing you do
But tonight outside my window
There's a lonesome mournful sound
And I just can't keep from thinkin'
'Bout the ones the wolves pull down
Oh Lord keep me from bein'
Bottle of scotch whiskey not very smooth
Like snake bite cure from the medicine man
Not bad poison if there's something to soothe
It's a whole other world in the palm of your hand
Out of this world and out of your mind
Just like it don't matter what you're leaving behind
Trying to change your life you change your point of view
But no matter what you do it's the same old you
Wherever you go there you are
You can run from yourself but you won't get far
You can dive to the bottom of your medicine jar
But wherever you go there you are
Bottle of scotch whiskey whatever you find
When you're out on a wire it's a matter of time
Changing every moment when you're taking the fall
There's everything to gain when you're losing it all
Feel your head spinning with your feet on the ground
You climb the wrong ladder and it's keeping you down
Think you're gettin' higher but you're still layin' low
And you don't want to be anyone you know
Wherever you go there you are
You can run from yourself but you won't get far
You can dive to the bottom of your medicine jar
But wherever you go there you are
Once you've been bitten it's like crossing a line
It's a part of the plan all that's on your mind
Think that it'll help you find somebody to be
But the man in the mirror is all you'll see
Wherever you go there you are
You can run from yourself but you won't get far
You can dive to the bottom of your medicine jar
But wherever you go there you are
You were standin' at my front door
When I came home tonight
And I could tell by the look you gave me
You were needin' my advice
You say you want more out of life than he can give you
As a tear rolls down your face
But girl I've seen the way he looks at you
And I know someone who'd gladly take your place
If I were you
I’d run back home tonight
Tell him everything's all right
Yeah I know what I'd do
If I were you
I'd never let him go
I'd have someone to hold my whole life through
If I were you
You shouldn't think you're missin' out on something
Because you wear a wedding band
'Cause I can’t seem to find somebody
Who wants more than just a one night stand
You know this single life I'm livin'
Ain't all it's cracked up to be
So you've come to the wrong place
If what you want is sympathy
If I were you
I'd run back home tonight
Tell him everything's all right
Yeah I know what I'd do
If I were you
I’d never let him go
I'd have someone to hold
My whole life through
If I were you
I’d run back home tonight
Tell him everything's all right
Yeah I know what I'd do
If I were you
I'd never let him go
I'd have someone to hold my whole life through
If I were you
You say your bags are packed
You won't be coming back
You'll hit I-35 and be in cowtown by tonight
In Austin, here with me
Ain't where you want to be
But somewhere down the line, will the price be way too high
Is Fort Worth worth it
For what it costs in Austin
Is the love you think you'll find
Worth the love you're gonna lose
Can that woman west of Dallas
Make you forget about us
Is Forth Worth worth it to you
She's offered you the moon
But darling someday soon
The sun is gonna rise and you'll see things in a different light
The love you're looking for
Is right inside my door
And if you leave you might ask yourself some lonely night
Is Fort Worth worth it
For what it costs in Austin
Is the love you think you'll find
Worth the love you're gonna lose
Can that woman west of Dallas
Make you forget about us
Is Fort Worth worth it to you
Go tell the sheriff, John Roland Wood's found Jesus
Now he's living at the foot of the cross
He testified on the main drag this evening
Said he's gonna spread the gospel to the lost
The meanest sinner to ever live and breathe
Said he's been clean and sober for a week
He said his soul is not troubled anymore
He hocked his gun and gave the money to the Lord
Go tell the sheriff, John Roland Wood's found Jesus
At a tent revival right outside of town
Oh what a friend this town has in Jesus
If you look at what John Roland has tore down
Before the spirit touched his soul
He kept the streets signs full of bullet holes
Back then when he was raising hell
You knew he was coming by the blue lights on this tail...look out
Go tell the sheriff, John Roland Wood's found Jesus
Now that water tower must be full of wine
Let not your weary heart be troubled
Turn your women and your children back outside
What will we do on Friday nights
Without John Roland shootin' out the lights
Carry that ol' jukebox away
He traded B-9 for Amazing Grace
Go tell the sheriff, John Roland Wood's found Jesus
Life may not always go your way
And every once in awhile
You might have a bad day
But I promise you now
You won't ever be lonely
The sky turns dark
And everything goes wrong
Run to me and I'll leave the light on
And I promise you now
You won't ever be lonely
For as long as I live
There will always be
A place you belong
Here beside me heart and soul
Baby you only
And I promise you now
You won't ever be lonely
It's still gonna snow
And it's still gonna rain
The wind's gonna blow
On a cold winter day
And I promise you now
You won't ever be lonely
You're safe from the world
Wrapped in my arms
And I'll never let go
Baby here's where it starts
And I promise you now
You won't ever be lonely
Here's a shoulder you can cry on
And a love you can rely on
For as long as I live
There will always be
A place you belong
Here beside me heart and soul
Baby you only
And I promise you now
You won't ever be lonely
No no no no no no
I oughta know the look in another's eyes
When there's something on their mind
I think I saw that look in a lover's eyes
They were looking into mine
Like we both had found the one we want
But found the one we wanted just quit trying
So we tell ourselves that what we found is what we meant to find
That's what we tell ourselves
You won't believe the things
A heart could tell a mind
Somehow we sell ourselves on love
I just don't think I'll believe my heart this time
I oughta know the language well
I've heard me tell myself these things before
I finally made my mind up
My heart tells me to look for something more
Determined not to wind up wondering was she the one
Well, you never can be sure
So we tell ourselves that what we found is what we meant to find
That's what we tell ourselves
You won't believe the things
A heart could tell a mind
Somehow we sell ourselves on love
I just don't think I'll believe my heart this time
So we tell ourselves that what we found is what we meant to find
That's what we tell ourselves
You won't believe the things
A heart could tell a mind
Somehow we sell ourselves on love
This ain't comin' from no prophet
Just an ordinary man
When I close my eyes I see
The way this world shall be
When we all walk hand in hand
When the last child cries for a crust of bread
When the last man dies for just words that he said
When there's shelter over the poorest head
We shall be free
When the last thing we notice is the color of skin
And the first thing we look for is the beauty within
When the skies and the oceans are clean again
Then we shall be free
We shall be free
We shall be free
Stand straight, and walk proud
'Cause we shall be free
When we're free to love anyone we choose
When this world's big enough for all different views
When we all can worship from our own kind of pew
Then we shall be free
We shall be free
We shall be free
Have a little faith
Hold out
'Cause we shall be free
And when money talks for the very last time
And nobody walks a step behind
When there's only one race and that's mankind
Then we shall be free
We shall be free
We shall be free
Stand straight, walk proud, have a little faith, hold out
We shall be free
We shall be free
We shall be free
Stand straight, stand straight, have a little faith, walk proud
We shall be free
We shall be free
We shall be free
Stand straight, walk proud
I overheard a conversation
Down at the diner tonight
A boy told a girl she was his whole world
And he'd love her till the end of time
It reminded me of you, and the thought went through my head
That sounds like something you should've said
I took myself out to a movie
Saw a man on the silver screen
Tell the woman he loved for just one touch
He would do anything
It reminded me of you, and the thought went through my head
That sounds like something you should've said
You never let me know the way you felt
And I don't understand why
The longest talk we ever had
Was when I said goodbye
I heard a song playing on the jukebox
A singer pouring out his soul
And every word he sang was filled with pain
That he'd ever let his lady go
It reminded me of you, and the thought went through my head
That sounds like something you should've said
Back when we had nothing
That was when we had it all
We were so in love it almost hurt
Now you're staring at the TV
While I'm staring at the wall
And I'm hurting now, for the way we were
I liked it better when we had it bad
When a burning love was all we had
And every time we were apart
There was an aching in our hearts
Now that ain't the way things are
And it's so sad
I liked it better when we had it bad
I don't know how it happens
Why the passion has to fade
Remember when we said it never would
Won't you hold me like you used to
When you took my breath away
'Cause it ain't too late for us to feel that good
I liked it better when we had it bad
When a burning love was all we had
And every time we were apart
There was an aching in our hearts
Now that ain't the way things are
And it's so sad
I liked it better when we had it bad
I liked it better when we had it bad
When a burning love was all we had
And every time we were apart
There was an aching in our hearts
Now that ain't the way things are
And it's so sad
I liked it better when we had it bad
I can't say looking back right now just where our love went wrong
But the hard cold fact is she's not here she's gone
Made me a promise she'd be true till the rivers all ran dry
The rivers still runnin' but she's long said goodbye
That's why I'm down on the bottom
Where the Moccasin's King and the big tall cypress grow
Seems the only place that a country boy can find some peace of mind
And get back up, is on the bottom
Got friends in the world outside but none quite like ol' Cajun Joe
He lives down a slough where the river used to flow
Worked real hard most of his life till the pushin' came to shove
Gave it all he had but he just couldn't rise above
That's why he's down at the bottom
Where the alligator swims and the old grey moss hangs low
Seems the only place that a country boy can find some piece of mind
And get back up, is on the bottom
I can get back up here on the bottom
It was about five ‘til five on Friday
We were all getting ready to go
And the boss man started screamin' and his veins began to show
He said you and you come with me 'cause you're gonna have to stay
My heart was thumpin' I was jumpin' I had to get away
Some days you gotta dance
Live it up when you get the chance
'Cause when the world doesn't make no sense
And you're feelin’ just a little too tense
Gotta loosen up those chains and dance
Well I was talkin' with my baby over a small glass of tea
He asked the loaded question
He said how do you feel about me
My mind was racin' I was pacin' but the words just wouldn't come
And there was only one thing left to do I feel it comin' on
Some days you gotta dance
Live it up when you get the chance
'Cause when the world doesn't make no sense
And you're feelin’ just a little too tense
Gotta loosen up those chains and dance
Some days you gotta dance
Live it up when you get the chance
'Cause when the world doesn't make no sense
And you're feelin’ just a little too tense
Gotta loosen up those chains and dance
You gotta loosen up those chains and dance
If I could invent a time machine
Then maybe we'd both be seventeen
Cruising in my first car, and actin' like movie stars on a Friday night
Do you remember those Friday nights
We were a rock ready to roll there was a fire down in our souls
And all the whole world had to stand still then turn around us
'Cause that was the deal
And oh how those nights went flowing like wine
When I was all yours and you were all mine
And we were in love yeah we were in love
I can still see you when I sleep
There is a picture I still keep
You with your hair in the wind
And me with that crazy grin under summer skies when dreams where too young to die
We were a rock ready to roll there was a fire down in our souls
And all the whole world had to stand still then turn around us
'Cause that was the deal
And oh how those nights went flowing like wine
When I was all yours and you were all mine
And we were in love yeah we were in love
Oh I know I know it sounds crazy but baby your still the one
So let's find a way to bring back the days when our hearts were forever young
And we were a rock ready to roll there was a fire down in our souls
And all the whole world had to stand still then turn around us
'Cause that was the deal
And oh how those nights went flowing like wine
When I was all yours and you were all mine
And we were in love yeah we were in love
Oh we were in love
You're late, it's well past two
And there's a trace of strange perfume
I can see you had a good time
'Cause honey I ain't blind
And I can read you like a book
You've got a guilty look
And there's something I’m wondering about
Was there a girl on your boys' night out
No you ain't the kind to cheat
But maybe you would if she threw herself at your feet
Did you look or did you touch
Tell me now you owe me that much
I think you know what I'm talking about
Was there a girl on your boys' night out
A friend called a while ago
Said there was something I should know
She saw you shooting pool
With someone who was making eyes at you
I never have accused
But baby I'm a bit confused
I need to know without a doubt
Was there a girl on your boys' night out
No you ain't the kind to cheat
But maybe you would if she threw herself at your feet
Did you look or did you touch
Tell me now you owe me that much
I think you know what I'm talking about
Was there a girl on your boys' night out
I think you know what I'm talking about
Well I never really knew you 'til you said goodbye
You said it's finally over, here's the reasons why
You said you've heard enough of all those little lies
I never really knew you 'til you said goodbye
Well I thought I made you happy but you've proved me wrong
I thought I was the one that really turned you on
When I came home tonight all my things were gone
I guess gettin' over me didn't take you long
Well I never really knew you 'til you said goodbye
You said it's finally over, here's the reasons why
You said you've heard enough of all those little lies
I never really knew you 'til you said goodbye
Well I never really knew you 'til you said goodbye
You said it's finally over, here's the reasons why
You said you've heard enough of all those little lies
I never really knew you 'til you said goodbye
Well, you said you'd heard enough of all those little lies
I never really knew you 'til you said goodbye
I'll always remember the first time I saw him
Up in the saddle alone
Riding that pony and racin' the wind
Wherever it would blow
Each night I'd pray
For one more day
But his soul was wild and free
It's like tyin' a heart
To a tumbleweed
So I'll make a wish beneath the desert moon
His love will blow my way one day soon
Yes I know I should let him go
But I can't deny the need
It's like tyin’ a heart to a tumbleweed
I could fashion some fences that might hold him in
But only for a little while
'Cause that restless spirit keeps following him
And I know he's bound to say goodbye
I dream he'll say that he wants to stay
Then he drifts away from me
It's like tyin' a heart to a tumbleweed
So I'll make a wish beneath the desert moon
His love will blow my way one day soon
Yes I know I should let him go
But I can't deny the need
It's like tyin’ a heart to a tumbleweed
Tyin' a heart to a tumbleweed
This ol' highway's getting longer
Seems there ain't no end in sight
To sleep would be best, but I just can't afford to rest
I've got to ride in Denver tomorrow night
I called the house but no one answered
For the last two weeks no one's been home
I guess she's through with me, to tell the truth I just can't see
What's kept the woman holding on this long
And the white line's getting longer and the saddle's getting cold
I'm much too young to feel this damn old
All my cards are on the table with no ace left in the hole
I'm much too young to feel this damn old
The competition's getting younger
Tougher broncs, you know I can't recall
The worn out tape of Chris LeDoux, lonely women and bad booze
Seem to be the only friends I've left at all
And the white line's getting longer and the saddle's gettin' cold
I'm much too young to feel this damn old
All my cards are on the table with no ace left in the hole
I'm much too young to feel this damn old
I went to work for her that summer
A teenage kid so far from home
She was a lonely widow woman
Hell-bent to make it on her own
We were a thousand miles from nowhere
Wheat fields as far as I could see
Both needing something from each other
Not knowing yet what that might be
'Til she came to me one evening
Hot cup of coffee and a smile
In a dress that I was certain
She hadn't worn in quite a while
There was a difference in her laughter
There was a softness in her eyes
And on the air there was a hunger
Even a boy could recognize
She had a need to feel the thunder
To chase the lightning from the sky
To watch a storm with all its wonder
Written in her lover's eyes
She had to ride the heat of passion
Like a comet burnin' bright
Rushin' headlong in the wind
Now where only dreams have been
Burnin' both ends of the night
That summer wind was all around me
Nothin' between us but the night
When I told her that I'd never
She softly whispered that's alright
And then I watched her hands of leather
Turn to velvet in a touch
There's never been another summer
When I have ever learned so much
We had a need to feel the thunder
To chase the lightning from the sky
To watch a storm with all its wonder
Written in each other's eyes
She had to ride the heat of passion
Like a comet burning bright
Rushin' headlong in the wind
Now where only dreams have been
Burnin' both ends of the night
I often think about that summer
The sweat the moonlight and the lace
And I have rarely held another
When I haven't seen her face
And every time I pass a wheat field
And watch it dancing with the wind
Although I know it isn't real
I just can't help but feel
Her hungry arms again
She had a need to feel the thunder
To chase the lightnin' from the sky
To watch a storm with all its wonder
Written in her lover's eyes
She had to ride the heat of passion
Like a comet burnin' bright
Rushin' headlong in the wind
Now where only dreams have been
Burnin' both ends of the night
Rushin' in long in the wind
Now where only dreams have been
When the Texas moon is shining down on Austin
When it shines across the Rio Grande
When it comes to makin' love
Under the stars above
Turn left at the old hote
I know this boulevard much too well it hasn't changed since I been gone
Oh this used to be my way home
They paved the road thru the neighborhood
I guess the county finally fixed good it was gettin' rough
Someone finally complained enough
Fight the tears back with a smile
Stop and look for a little while oh it's plain to see
The only thing missing is me
That's my house and that's my car
That's my dog in my back yard
There's the window to the room
Where she lays her pretty head
I planted that tree out by the fence
Not long after we moved in
That's my kids and that's my wife
Who's that man, runnin' my life
If I pulled in would it cause a scene
There not really expectin me those kid's have been thru hell
I hear they've adjusted well
Turn around in the neigbors drive
I'd be hard to recognise in this pick-up truck
It's just an old fixer up
Drive away one more time
Lot of things runnin' thru my mind I guess the less things change
The more they never seem the same
That's my house and that's my car
That's my dog in my back yard
There's the window to the room
Where she lays her pretty head
I planted that tree out by the fence
Not long after we moved in
That's my kids and that's my wife
Who's that man, runnin' my life
That's my house and that's my car
That's my dog in my back yard
There's the window to the room
Where she lays her pretty head
I planted that tree out by the fence
Not long after we moved in
That's my kids and that's my wife
Three thirty in the mornin'
Not a soul insight
The city's lookin' like a ghost town
On a moonless summer night
Raindrops on the windshield
There's a storm moving in
He's headin' back from somewhere
That he never should have been
And the thunder rolls
And the thunder rolls
Every light is burnin'
In a house across town
She's pacin' by the telephone
In her faded flannel gown
Askin' for miracle
Hopin' she's not right
Prayin' it's the weather
That's kept him out all night
And the thunder rolls
And the thunder rolls
The thunder rolls
And the lightnin' strikes
Another love grows cold
On a sleepless night
As the storm blows on
Out of control
Deep in her heart
The thunder rolls
She's waitin' by the window
When he pulls into the drive
She rushes out to hold him
Thankful he's alive
But on the wind and rain
A strange new perfume blows
And the lightnin' flashes in her eyes
And he knows that she knows
And the thunder rolls
And the thunder rolls
The thunder rolls
And the lightnin' strikes
Another love grows cold
On a sleepless night
As the storm blows on
Out of control
Deep in her heart
Looking back on the memory of
The dance we shared 'neath the stars above
For a moment all the world was right
How could I have known that you'd ever say goodbye
And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance
Holding you I held everything
For a moment wasn't I a king
But if I'd only known how the king would fall
Hey who's to say you know I might have changed it all
And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance
Yes my life is better left to chance
Don't come cryin' to me when it's over
Don't you come knockin' at my door
Don't come cryin' to me I won't be waiting
Like I've done a hundred times before
You promised you'd love me forever
Now it's all over town you've changed your mind
Well you call me and say "let;'s get together"
But I'm sorry I won't take you back this time
Don't come cryin' to me when it's over
Don't you come knockin' at my door
Don't come cryin' to me I won't be waiting
Like I've done a hundred times before
Don't come cryin' to me when it's over
Don't you come knockin' at my door
Don't come cryin' to me I won't be waiting
Like I've done a hundred times before
We call them cool
Those hearts that have no scars to show
The ones that never do let go
And risk the tables being turned
We call them fools
Who have to dance within the flame
Who chance the sorrow and the shame
That always comes with getting burned
But you've got to be tough when consumed by desire
'Cause it's not enough just to stand outside the fire
We call them strong
Those who can face this world alone
Who seem to get by on their own
Those who will never take the fall
We call them weak
Who are unable to resist
The slightest chance love might exist
And for that forsake it all
They're so hell-bent on giving walking a wire
Convinced it's not living if you stand outside the fire
Standing outside the fire
Standing outside the fire
Life is not tried it is merely survived
If you're standing outside the fire
There's this love that is burning
Deep in my soul
Constantly yearning to get out of control
Wanting to fly higher and higher
I can't abide
Standing outside the fire
Standing outside the fire
Standing outside the fire
Life is not tried it is merely survived
If you're standing outside the fire
Standing outside the fire
Standing outside the fire
Life is not tried it is merely survived
If you're standing outside the fire
Standing outside the fire
Standing outside the fire
Life is not tried it is merely survived
Ten days too late you show up
With a sheepish grin and a bouquet in your hand
You make mistakes by the dozen
But don't think you can make it up the same way again
Flowers after the fact
Ain’t gonna get me back
You gotta do something sooner and better than that
When ya bring red roses
There’s an ulterior motive
Don’t give me flowers after the fact
No part of your heart's ever in it
You're just trying to get your foot back in the door
I might feel like you meant it
If those long stems had come in the name of love before
Flowers after the fact
Ain’t gonna get me back
You gotta do something sooner and better than that
When ya bring red roses
There’s an ulterior motive
Don’t give me flowers after the fact
When ya bring me red roses
There’s an ulterior motive
Don't need no flowers after the fact
It's a song on the radio
It's your picture on the wall in my bedroom
It's any one of a million memories
Girl, everything takes me back but you
It's every place that we've ever been
It's running into someone we both knew
Or it's the face of a total stranger
Girl, everything takes me back but you
I've called you up I've begged and pleaded left love letters at your door
Though I broke your heart you gotta believe it hurt me even more
So what's it gonna take what ya wanna hear girl I think I've paid my dues
And it might be just but it don't seem fair that everything takes me back but you
It's a sound or it's the silence
It's the thought that what I've done I can't undo
Or it's the dream I can't put behind me
Girl everything takes me back but you
I've called you up I've begged and pleaded left love letters at your door
Though I broke your heart you gotta believe it hurt me even more
So what's it gonna take what ya wanna hear girl I think I've paid my dues
And it might be just but it just ain't fair that everything takes me back but you
It's the night or it's the morning
It's the thunder rolling in before it rains
Or it's a long, long, long, long stretch of highway
Girl it's nothing and it's everything, it's everything
Everything takes me back but you
I said I wanna touch the earth
I wanna break it in my hands
I wanna grow something wild and unruly
I wanna sleep on the hard ground
In the comfort of your arms
On a pillow of bluebonnets
In a blanket made of star
Oh it sounds good to me I said
Cowboy take me away
Fly this girl as high as you can
Into the wild blue
Set me free oh I pray
Closer to heaven above
And closer to you closer to you
I wanna walk and not run
I wanna skip and not fall
I wanna look at the horizon
And not see a building standing tall
I wanna be the only one
For miles and miles
Except for maybe you
And your simple smile
Oh it sounds good to me
Yes it sounds so good to me
Cowboy take me away
Fly this girl as high as you can
Into the wild blue
Set me free oh I pray
Closer to heaven above
Nothin' on earth that'll get me hummin'
Like a heat wave comin' and I'll come runnin'
With her makin' that tan in the broad daylight
And every night is a Saturday night
And everything's right with the summer comin'
I'm the first one standin' in line
For my day in the sun I've been workin'
'Til the sun don't shine
Takin' off my hat leave it to the boys
Get that old work monkey down off my back
All I want's a little peace and noise
Hit the cruise control
Get me back on track
Let my old Ford treat me like a Cadillac
Nothin' on Earth that'll get me hummin'
Like a heat wave comin' and I'll come runnin'
With her makin' that tan in the broad daylight
And every night is a Saturday night
And everything's right with the summer comin'
I'm the first one standin' in line
For my day in the sun I've been workin'
'Til the sun don't shine
When the day gets cookin' gonna grab my toys
And it really doesn't matter which wave we're on
Get to turnin' up them good old boys
Crankin' into the night, by the break of dawn
All the towns are red and I still see blonde
Nothin' on Earth that'll get me hummin'
Like a heat wave comin' and I'll come runnin'
With her makin' that tan in the broad daylight
And every night is a Saturday night
And everything's right with the summer comin'
I'm the first one standin' in line
For my day in the sun I've been workin'
'Til the sun don't shine
For my day in the sun I've been workin'
'Til the sun don't shine
For my day in the sun I've been workin'
'Til the sun don't shine
Summer's comin' to shine
Summer's comin' to shine
Darlin' here's a photograph of my old high school class
No I ain't been back in quite a while
See there that's Emma Lou, the one I gave my heart to
But there's a story you can't see behind her smile
It was gonna last forever, we were gonna see the world
So I guess you're curious just what became of her, well
She's still there in Oklahoma
She's still seventeen
She's livin' with her Mama
Workin' at the Dairy Queen
And she's still standin' on the front porch
With a red ribbon in her hair
The rest of us have scattered everywhere
But she's still there
Everett went to Omaha, he majored in business law
Jill's in Arkansas with husband number two
That's her best friend Jolene, she joined up with the Marines
I hear Billy Green's on a beach in Malibu
Yes and Emma would be happy if she could only see us now
'Cause we're livin' out the lives that she only dreamed about
She's still there in Oklahoma
She's still seventeen
She's livin' with her Mama
Workin' at the Dairy Queen
And she's still standin' on the front porch
With a red ribbon in her hair
The rest of us have scattered everywhere
But she's still there
Lord, I know I'll never see her
With silver in her hair
I know she's really gone
But in my heart I'd swear
She's still there in Oklahoma
She's still seventeen
She's livin' with her Mama
Workin' at the Dairy Queen
And she's still standin' on the front porch
With a red ribbon in her hair
The rest of us have scattered everywhere
But she's still there
You're climbing mountains, I'm on a hill
You're always running I'm standing still
You live for the moment, no future no past
I may be a fool to love by the rules and want it to last
If you ever have forever in mind
I'll be here and easy to find
If your heart isn't ready to lay down with mine
If you ever have forever in mind
Music has ended still you want to dance
I know that feeling, I can't take that chance
You live for the moment no future no past
I may be a fool to love by the rules, I want it to last
If you ever have forever in mind
I'll be here and easy to find
If your heart isn't ready to lay down with mine
He pushed me 'round now I'm drawin’ the line
He lived his life now I'm gonna go and live mine
I'm sick of wastin’ my time
Well now I've been good for way too long.
Found my red dress now I'm gonna throw it on
'Bout to get too far gone
Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition
Need a little bit more of my twelve-ounce nutrition
One more helpin' of what I been havin'
I'm takin’ my turn on the sin wagon
On a mission to make something happen
Feel like Delilah lookin' for Samson
Do a little mattress dancin'
That's right I said mattress dancin'
Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition
Need a little bit more of what I been missin’
I don't know where I'll be crashin’
But I'm arrivin’ on a sin wagon
When it's my turn to march up to glory
I'm gonna have one hell of a story
That's if He forgives me
Oh Lord please forgive me
Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition
Need a little bit more of that sweet salvation
They may take me with my feet draggin’
I bet you've never heard ol' Marshall Dillion say
Miss Kitty have you ever thought of running away
Settling down would you marry me
If I asked you twice and begged you pretty please
She'd of said yes in a New York minute
They never tied the knot
His heart wasn't in it
He stole a kiss as he road away
He never hung his hat up at Kitty's place
I should've been a cowboy
I should've learned to rope and ride
Wearing my six-shooter riding my pony on a cattle drive
Stealing the young girl's heart
Just like Gene and Roy
Singing those campfire songs
Oh I should've been a cowboy
I might of had a side kick with a funny name
Running wild through the hills chasing Jesse James
Ending up on the brink of danger
Riding shotgun for the Texas Rangers
Go west yound man, haven't you been told
California's full of whisky, women and gold
Sleeping out all night beneath the desert stars
Dream in my eye and a prayer in my heart
I should've been a Cowboy
I should've learned to rope and ride
Wearing my six-shooter riding my pony on a cattle drive
Stealing the young girl's hearts
Just like Gene and Roy
Singing those campfire songs
Oh I should've been a cowboy
I should've been a Cowboy
I should've learned to rope and ride
I'd be wearing my six-shooter riding my pony on a cattle drive
Stealing the young girl's hearts
Just like Gene and Roy
Singing those campfire songs
Oh I should've been a Cowboy
Yeah I should've been a Cowboy
Well I'm shamemeless when it comes to loving you
I'll do anything you want me to
I'll do anything at all
And I'm standing here for all the world to see
Oh baby that's what's left of me
Don't have very far to fall
You know now I'm not a man who's ever been
Insecure about the world I've been livin' in
I don't break easy I have my pride
But if you need to be satisfied
I'm shameless, oh honey I don't have a rpayer
Every time I see you standin' there
I go down upon my knees
And I'm changin' swore I'd never compromise
Oh but you convinced me otherwise
I'll do anything you please
You see in all my life I've never found
What I couldn't resist what I couldn't turn down
I could walk away from anyone I ever knew
But I can't walk away from you
I have never let anything have this much control over me
I work too hard to call my life my own
And I've made myself a world and it's worked so perfectly
But it's your world now I can't refuse
I've never had so much to lose
Oh I'm shameless
You know it should be easy for a man who's strong
To say he's sorry or admit when he's wrong
I've never lost anything I've ever missed
But I've never been in love like this
It's out of my hands
I'm shameless, I don't have the power now
I don't want it anyhow
So I got to let it go
Oh I'm shameless, shameless as a man can be
You make a total fool of me
I just wanted to you to know
Oh I'm shameless
I just wanted you to know
Oh I'm shameless
I spent last night in the arms
Of a girl in Louisiana
And though I'm out on the highway
My thoughts are still with her
Such a strange combination of a woman and a child
Such a strange situation stoppin' every hundred miles
Callin' Baton Rouge
A replay of last night's events
Roll through my mind
Except a scene or two
Erased by sweet red wine
And I see a truck stop sign ahead
So I change lanes
I need a cup of coffee
And a couple dollars change
Callin' Baton Rouge
Operator won't you put me on through
I gotta' send my love down to Baton Rouge
Hurry up won't you put her on the line
I gotta' talk to the girl just one more time
Hello Samantha dear I hope you're feelin' fine
And it won't be long until I'm with you all the time
But until then I'll spend my money up right down to my last dime
Callin' Baton Rouge
Operator won't you put me on through
I gotta' send my love down to Baton Rouge
Hurry up won't you put her on the line
I gotta' talk to the girl just one more time
Oh in Baton Rouge
If anybody had told me that anybody'd have a hold on me
I'd say they were out of their mind
But speakin' of crazy, I'm findin' lately
All I want, all I need, all the time is
More of your sweet love
Too much just ain't enough
I never needed a fix like this before
Too strong to resist
I don't know when to quit
Like a kid in a candy store
You keep me comin' back for more
I can't explain it I'm more than infatuated
You got me good I got it bad
There's no doubt about it I can't live without it
What you got I just gotta have
So gimme
More of your sweet love
Too much just ain't enough
I never needed a fix like this before
Too strong to resist
I don't know when to quit
Like a kid in a candy store
You keep me comin' back for more
Too strong to resist
I don't know when to quit
Like a kid in a candy store
You keep me comin' back for more
You keep me comin' back for more
Your mind is made up you won't even try
You didn't even cry this time
You say that we could never see eye to eye
And one of us just must be blind
We have our differences
We're still the same
See what we want to see
But you take a second look
And maybe things wouldn't seem the same
If you could see what you mean to me
Put yourself in my shoes
Walk a mile for me
I'll put myself in your shoes
Maybe then we'd see
That if you put yourself in my shoes
You'd have some sympathy
And if I could only put myself in your shoes
I'd walk right back to me
You're gonna keep walkin' and
You're gonna pass me by
You say you don't even care
But I could always recognize a real good-bye
And I know your heart's not there
We've had our differences
We're still the same
Hear what we want to hear
Now I'm head over heels in the lost and found
It's a cryin' shame
I thought we made the perfect pair
Put yourself in my shoes
Walk a while walk that mile for me
I'll put myself in your shoes
Maybe then we'd see
That if you put yourself in my shoes
You'd have some sympathy
And if I could only put myself in your shoes
I'd walk right back to me
I'd walk right back to me
She was born to a mother trucker
Raised behind the wheel
So you can blame it on the highway
For the way she can't sit still
She says life is like a windshield
It ain't no rear view mirror
The only way to get where you're goin'
Is find that higher gear
And keep it
Rollin'
Life's gonna run you over if you don't get goin'
She said I wanna fell the earth move under me
Movin' with the motion of a melody
Oh I get the blues if the rhythm ain't got no soul
You got to keep it
Rollin'
Well I knew that I was in trouble
When she told me that talk was cheap
Said if you're tired get on the sofa
'Cause the bed's no place to sleep
Then she reached down and she kissed
Lord it knocked me to my knees
And I knew if I was gonna get naked
I was gonna have to roll up my sleeves
And keep it
Rollin'
Love was gonna run me over if I didn't get it goin'
She said I wanna feel the earth move under me
Movin' with the motion of a melody
Boy I get the blues if the rhythm ain't got no soul
You got to keep it
Rollin'
So I talked her into gettin' married
But she wouldn't hang up her wheels
I was afraid I'd take a back seat
To the way the highway feels
But each day she's pullin' over
More than she used to
She knows love is like the highway
The main thing you gotta do
Is keep it
Rollin'
Life's gonna run you over if you don't get goin'
She said I wanna fell the earth move under me
Movin' with the motion of a melody
Oh I get the blues if the rhythm ain't got no soul
You got to keep it
Rollin'
Life's gonna run you over if you don't get goin'
She said I wanna fell the earth move under me
Movin' with the motion of a melody
Oh I get the blues if the rhythm ain't got no soul
You got to keep it
His eyes are cold and restless
His wounds have almost healed
And she'd give half of Texas
Just to change the way he feels
She knows his love's in Tulsa
And she knows he's gonna go
Well it ain't no woman flesh and blood
It's that damned old rodeo
Well it's bulls and blood
It's dust and mud
It's the roar of a Sunday crowd
It's the white in his knuckles
The gold in the buckle
He'll win the next go 'round
It's boots and chaps
It's cowboy hats
It's spurs and latigo
It's the ropes and the reins
And the joy and the pain
And they call the thing rodeo
She does her best to hold him
When his love comes to call
But his need for it controls him
And her back's against the wall
And it's So long girl I'll see you
When it's time for him to go
You know the woman wants her cowboy
Like he wants his rodeo
Well it's bulls and blood
It's dust and mud
It's the roar of a Sunday crowd
It's the white in his knuckles
The gold in the buckle
He'll win the next go 'round
It's boots and chaps
It's cowboy hats
It's spurs and latigo
It's the ropes and the reins
And the joy and the pain
And they call the thing rodeo
It'll drive a cowboy crazy
It'll drive the man insane
And he'll sell off everything he owns
Just to pay to play her game
And a broken home and some broken bones
Is all he'll have to show
For all the years that he spent chasin'
This dream they call rodeo
Well it's bulls and blood
It's dust and mud
It's the roar of a Sunday crowd
It's the white in his knuckles
The gold in the buckle
He'll win the next go 'round
It's boots and chaps
It's cowboy hats
It's spurs and latigo
It's the ropes and the reins
And the joy and the pain
And they call the thing rodeo
It's the broncs and the blood
It's the steers and the mud
He lost his job that mornin' stopped off and bought a fifth of pride
A reality eraser a little taste to help face her that night
He broke his same ol' promise when he showed up with whiskey on his breath
That night he can't remember the one that she can't forget
Now he's been clean and sober since twenty-three October '95
His drinking days are over but there's that one she can't get off her mind
He tries to apologize but can't recall and don't realize
She won't forgive whatever he said
That night he can't remember the one she can't forget
Well she never has remarried 'cause she never has stopped carrying thep ain
It serves as a reminder that the man she left behind her just couldn't change
But if she only knew she probably saved his life the night she left
That night he can't remember the one that she just can't forget
Now he's been clean and sober since twenty-three October '95
His drinking days are over but there's that one she can't get off her mind
And he tries to apologize but can't recall and don't realize
She won't forgive whatever he said
That night he can't remember the one
Oh the night he can't remember the one she can't forget
When the train rolls by
I’m gonna be ready this time
When the boy gets that look in his eye
I’m gonna be ready this time
When my momma said I look good in white
I’m gonna be ready this time
Oh yeah
Ready, ready, ready, ready, ready to run
All I’m ready to do is have some fun
What’s all this talk about love
I feel the wind blow through my hair
I’m gonna be ready this time
I’ll buy a ticket to anywhere
I’m gonna be ready this time (ready this time)
You see it feels like I’m starting to cave
And I’m gonna be ready this time (ready this time)
Oh yeah
Ready, ready, ready, ready, ready to run
All I’m ready to do is have some fun
What’s all this talk about love
I’m ready to run
Ready to run
Ready, ready, ready, ready, ready to run
All I’m ready to do is have some fun
What’s all this talk about love
I’m ready to run
Ready to run
Ready to run
I’m ready to run
Oh, I’m ready to run, Oh
Ready to run
Yeah, I’m ready to run
I’m ready
Woah, I’m ready to run
I’m ready
I’m ready to run
Day by day, we let love just walk away
And I'll be the first to say, I was glad to see it go
And day by day, ever since you went away
I'm finding I'm still missing you, and I just got to know
Does that blue moon ever shine on you
I wanna hold you close to me, feel just like it used to be
And baby, if you feel like I do
You can come to me
Does that blue moon ever shine on you
On my mind, you were right there all the time
I could search and never find someone that does me like you do
Here's the part where I'm giving you my heart
I was a fool to let you go girl I just got to know
Does that blue moon ever shine on you
I wanna hold you close to me, feel just like it used to be
And baby, if you feel like I do
You can come to me
Does that blue moon ever shine on you
Night after night, I look to the stars
Wondering where you might be
And I've thought to myself, is that very same moon
Shining on you like it's shining on me
Does that blue moon ever shine on you
I wanna hold you close to me, feel just like it used to be
And baby, if you feel like I do
You can come to me
Just the other night a hometown football game
My wife and I ran into my old high school flame
And as I introduced them the past came back to me
And I couldn't help but think of the way things used to be
She was the one that I'd wanted for all times
And each night I'd spend prayin' that God would make her mine
And if he'd only grant me this wish I wished back then
I'd never ask for anything again
Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers
Remember when you're talkin' to the man upstairs
That just because he doesn't answer doesn't mean he don't care
Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers
She wasn't quite the angel that I remembered in my dreams
And I could tell that time had changed me
In her eyes too it seemed
We tried to talk about the old days
There wasn't much we could recall
I guess the Lord knows what he's doin' after all
And as she walked away and I looked at my wife
And then and there I thanked the good Lord
For the gifts in my life
Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers
Remember when you're talkin' to the man upstairs
That just because he may not answer doesn't mean he don't care
Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered
Some of God's greatest gifts are all too often unanswered...
Papa drove a truck nearly all his life
You know it drove mama crazy being a trucker's wife
The part she couldn't handle was the being alone
I guess she needed more to hold than just a telephone
Papa called Mama each and every night
Just to ask her how she was and if us kids were alright
Mama would wait for that call to come in
When Daddy'd hang up she was gone again
Mama was a looker
Lord, how she shined
Papa was a good'n
But the jealous kind
Papa loved Mama
Mama loved men
Mama's in the graveyard
Papa's in the pen
Well it was bound to happen and one night it did
Papa came home and it was just us kids
He had a dozen roses and a bottle of wine
If he was lookin' to surprise us he was doin' fine
I heard him cry for Mama up and own the hall
Then I heard a bottle break against the bedroom wall
That old diesel engine made an eerie sound
When Papa fired it up and headed into town
Well the picture in the paper showed the scene real well
Papa's rig was buried in the local motel
The desk clerk said he saw it all real clear
He never hit the brakes and he was shifting gears
Mama was a looker
Lord, how she shined
Papa was a good'n
But the jealous kind
Papa loved Mama
Mama loved men
Mama's in the graveyard
Three thirty in the morning
Not a soul in sight
The city's lookin' like a ghost town
On a moonless summer night
Raindrops on the windshield
There's a storm movin' in
He's headin' back from somewhere
That he never should have been
And the thunder rolls
And the thunder rolls
Every light is burnin'
In a house across town
She's pacin' by the telephone
In her faded flannel gown
Askin' for miracle
Hopin' she's not right
Prayin' it's the weather
That's kept him out all night
And the thunder rolls
And the thunder rolls
The thunder rolls
And the lightnin' strikes
Another love grows cold
On a sleepless night
As the storm blows on
Out of control
Deep in her heart
The thunder rolls
She's waitin' by the window
When he pulls into the drive
She rushes out to hold him
Thankful he's alive
But on the wind and rain
A strange new perfume blows
And the lightnin' flashes in her eyes
And he knows that she knows
And the thunder rolls
And the thunder rolls
The thunder rolls
And the lightnin' strikes
Another love grows cold
On a sleepless night
As the storm blows on
Out of control
Deep in her heart
Don't tell me the reason that you're calling
Is to see if I'm all right since you've been gone
'Cause I know you and I know why we're talking
You're wantin' me to say I'm barely hanging on
Well, maybe that was true for a night or two
But now, I got better things to do
I could wash my car in the rain
Change my new guitar strings
Mow the yard just the same as I did yesterday
I don't need to waste my time crying over you
I got better things to do
Maybe when I don't have so much going
Or quite so many irons in the fire
I'll take the time to miss you like you're hoping
But now I can't put forth the effort it requires
Well I'd love to talk to you, but then I'd miss Donahue
That's right, I got better things to do
I could wash my car in the rain
Change my new guitar strings
Mow the yard just the same as I did yesterday
I don't need to waste my time crying over you
I got better things to do
Check the air in my tires
Straighten my stereo wires
Count the stars in the sky or just get on with my life
I don't need to waste my time crying over you
I got better things to do
You don't need diamonds or big fancy cars
You say your happy right where you are
We're bound together by a little gold band
You're my kind of woman
You're my kind of man
Oh living without you is my only fear
You still drive me crazy when I hold you near
My body trembles with the touch of your hand
You're my kind of woman
You're my kind of man
You're my kind of woman
You're my kind of man
A match made in heaven
By God's gentle hands
I'll love you forever
Together we'll stand
You're my kind of woman
You're my kind of man
You're my kind of woman
You're my kind of man
A match made in heaven
By God's gentle hands
I'll love you forever
Together we'll stand
You're my kind of woman
You're my kind of man
You're my kind of woman
Jimmy was waitin' on Shelby Jean
In the parking lot at the Dairy Queen
He knew she's gonna be there soon
Then they'll blow this town
Like a cheap balloon
She came in cryin' this morning at the store
Said, I swear Jimmy, I just can't take no more
So he quit his job and drew his pay
Now he's helpin' Shelby make her getaway
Oh...sittin' on go
Waitin' on sundown
Waitin' on sundown
No more beatin' to be denied
No more bruises that makeup can't hide
All these years she's tried to love that man
But all he ever gave her
Was the back of his hand
Now, Jimmy is a young boy
Just out of his teens
So many things that he still hasn't seen
But he's old enough to know wrong from right
That's why he's helpin' Shelby
Make her break tonight
And oh...sittin' on go
Waitin' on sundown
Waitin' on sundown
Waitin' on sundown
Drove all night drove all day
Jimmy listened to everything Shelby had to say
How she'd suffered at her lover's hand
He said honey I wanna change all that if I can
They pulled over to take a little rest
Shelby put her head down on Jimmy's chest
And she could hear the beatin' of his heart
And it sounded like the rhythm of a brand new start
And oh she's gonna let him know
She's waitin' on sundown
She's just waitin' on sundown
Yeah they're waitin' on sundown
Waitin' on sundown
On any given day I'll catch myself
Talking to yur memory that's all I have left
I miss you more than words can say
On any given day
Baby, on any given day goin' crazy alone
I'll happen by your place takin' the long way home
You'll drive me out of my way
On any given day
Once you hold an angel in your arms
It's the devil letting go
Just a taste of heaven on earth
Leaves a hunger in your soul
If I had three wishes, I'd throw away two
If I could be certain just one would come true
On any given day, I'd take one more night with you
Once you hold an angel in your arms
It's the devil letting go
Just a taste of heaven on earth
Leaves a hunger in your soul
If I had three wishes, well I'd throw away two
If I could be certain just one would come true
On any given day, I'd take one more night with you
Oh, it's true
Oh I said a little prayer tonight
Before I came on stage
As I came walkin' past the drivers
And the locals on the union wage
I asked the good Lord up in heaven
Let me treat the music right
Then I prayed that Detroit
Goes wild tonight
Seven pickers and all our gear in a rental van
Playin' music never sleepin' and workin' on a neon tan
We played The Barn down in Sanford Florida
For Bev Roberts out in Camden Park
We plugged it in up east at Bull Run
And the place went dark
Back when the old stuff was new
Back before the buses and the
Hard workin' boys in the crew
asIt was one big party
But the business called it payin' our dues
Back when the old stuff was new
Oh the stories we could tell
If it weren't for the code of the road
About The Buckboard, Bear Creek, Cowboys, and the Grizzly Rose
You know the weather turned bad in Scottsdale
A tornado nearly stole the show
We just danced in the rain and listened to the thunder roll
Back when the old stuff was new
Hats off to the K.C. Opry and ellA GURU'S
It was one big party
Uncle Joe you know we owe it to you
Back when the old stuff was new
No rules young fools comin' from the old school
Takin' on the world alone
Next date can't wait tearin' up the interstate
Every place we played was home
Balls out no doubt this is what it's all about
Beggin' for a place to play
Swingin' with our low friends
Prayin' that it never ends
Wouldn't trade a single day
Back when the old stuff was new
Back before the buses and the
Hard workin' boys in the crew
It was one big party
But the paper's called it payin' our dues
Back when the old stuff was new
Hey it's still one big party
You can call it whatever you choose
While they dance
How she holds him
Pulls him close
And loves him so
While he dreams of another
And counts the days
Until he lets her go
Same old story
That everybody knows
It's one heart holdin' on
One letting go
While they ride
Lord he tells her
How they two
Will settle down
But she only hears the highway
And a voice
In some other town
And the harder
He holds her
The more she slips away
Same old story
That everybody knows
It's one heart holdin' on
One letting go
She dropped her boy at school on time
One less worry on her mind
Now it's off to work and on the radio
Come's an old familiar song
And then the D.J.'s voice comes on
And say's he's back in town tonight for one last show
Her eyes well up with tears
God could it be it's been ten years
Since that Autumn night outside the county fair
When two strangers shared a night
And in the darkness found a light
That to this day is still alive and burning there
He asked her twice to come along
They said good-bye at the break of dawn
'Cause you can't hold back the wind
If it's meant to be again
Then someday he'll find his way back to her arms
The marquee misspelled his name
And not too many people came
But that didn't matter to them
They laughed and loved all through the night
And as they faced the morning light
They found themselves standing there again
And he asked her twice to come along
They said good-bye at the break of dawn
As his bus left out she cried
With him standing by her side
That ol' wind had once again found its way home
Someday he'll tell her about the money he hid
And someday she'll tell him that the boy is his kid
For right now they're both in love
The only thing they're thinkin' of
It's only 'cause you're lonely, that you're wanting me
I'm just a way to get you through your misery
You don't need my love, I know you'll let me down
It's only 'cause you're lonely that you're comin' 'round
Girl, you're telling me
That he set you free
But that's nothing new
To a heart that's never true
What makes you think you can come running back so easily
It's only 'cause you're lonely, that you're wanting me
I'm just a way to get you through your misery
You don't need my love, I know you'll let me down
It's only 'cause you're lonely that you're comin' 'round
You say it just ain't right
To sleep alone at night
And how much you have missed
A lover's tender kiss
When will you understand my heart is free at last
It's only 'cause you're lonely, that you're wanting me
I'm just a way to get you through your misery
You don't need my love, I know you'll let me down
It's only 'cause you're lonely that you're comin' 'round
eah you can see the girl comin'
From a mile away
She's got her big wheels turnin'
She's got Oklahoma plates
She's got her sun roof up
She's got her windows rolled down
And you oughta feel the ground shakin'
When she comes to town
Yeah I'm in love with the girl in the four-wheel drive
Chrome steel bumpers and red step side
She has a large time in her large machine
Man I wonder how she gets up in that thing
It casts a big shadow sittin' in the sun
She's got it revved up rockin' ready to run
And someday soon I'm gonna climb right up
And take a little ride in her big ol' truck
She's got bucket seats
Fully customized
In your wildest dreams painted on the side
It was built to run, she was built to show
She's got a Haggard hit playin' on her stereo
Yeah I'm in love with the girl in the four-wheel drive
Chrome steel bumpers and red step side
She has a large time in her large machine
Man I wonder how she gets up in that thing
It casts a big shadow sittin' in the sun
She's got it revved up rockin' ready to run
And someday soon I'm gonna climb right up
And take a little ride in her big ol' truck
Yeah I'm in love with the girl in the four-wheel drive
Chrome steel bumpers and red step side
She has a large time in her large machine
Man I wonder how she gets up in that thing
It casts a big shadow sittin' in the sun
She's got it revved up rockin' ready to run
And someday soon I'm gonna climb right up
And take a little ride in her big ol' truck
Big ol' truck
Ten feet tall, ten feet wide
There's no time to kill between the cradle and the grave
Father Time still takes a toll on every minute that you save
Legal tender's never gonna change the number on your days
The highest cost of livin's dyin', that's one everybody pays
So have it spent before you get the bill, there's no time to kill
If we'd known ten years ago today would be ten years from now
Would we spend tomorrow's yesterdays and make it last somehow
Or lead the cheers in someone else's game and never learn to play
And see the rules of thumb are all the same that measure every day
The grass is green on both sides of the hill, there's no time to kill
No time to kill, even I've said it, and probably always will
But I can look ahead and see that time ain't standin' still
No time to kill but time to change the kind of hurry I've been in
And quit this work and worry lookin' back at where I've been
If you don't look ahead nobody will, there's no time to kill
If we had an hour glass to watch each one go by
Or a bell to mark each one to pass, we'd see just how they fly
Would we escalate the value to be worth its weight in gold
Or would we never know the fortunes that we had 'til we grow old
And do we just keep killin' time until there's no time to kill
No time to kill, even I've said it and probably always will
But I can look ahead and see that time ain't standin' still
No time to kill but time to change the kind of hurry I've been in
And quit this work and worry lookin' back at where I've been
If you don't look ahead nobody will, there's no time to kill
No time to kill, even I've said it and probably always will
But I can look ahead and see that time ain't standin' still
No time to kill but time to change the kind of hurry I've been in
And quit this work and worry lookin' back at where I've been
If you don't look ahead nobody will, there's no time to kill
No time to kill
No time to kill
Like birds on a high line
They line up at night time at the bar
They all once were lovebirds
Now bluebirds are all that they are
They landed in hell
The minute they fell from love's sky
And now they hope in the wine
That they'll find a new way to fly
A new way to fly
Far away from goodbye
Above the clouds and the rain
The memories and the pain
And the tears that they cry
Now the lessons been learned
They've all crashed and burned
But they can leave it behind
If they could just find
A new way to fly
By the end of the night
They'll be high as a kite once again
And they don't seem to mind all the time
Or the money they spend
It's a high price to pay
to just find a way to get by
But it's worth every dime
If they find a new way to fly
A new way to fly
Far away from goodbye
Above the clouds and the rain
The memories and the pain
And the tears that they cry
Now the lessons been learned
They've all crashed and burned
But they can leave it behind
If they could just find
A new way to fly
They'll leave it behind
As soon as they find
Sometimes late at night
I lie awake and watch her sleeping
She's lost in peaceful dreams
So I turn out the lights and lay there in the dark
And the thought crosses my mind
If I never wake up in the morning
Would she ever doubt the way I feel
About her in my heart
If tomorrow never comes
Will she know how much I loved her
Did I try in every way to show her every day
That she's my only one
And if my time on earth were through
And she must face the world without me
Is the love I gave her in the past
Gonna be enough to last
If tomorrow never comes
'Cause I've lost loved ones in my life
Who never knew how much I loved them
Now I live with the regret
That my true feelings for them never were revealed
So I made a promise to myself
To say each day how much she means to me
And avoid that circumstance
Where there's no second chance to tell her how I feel
If tomorrow never comes
Will she know how much I loved her
Did I try in every way to show her every day
That she's my only one
And if my time on earth were through
And she must face this world without me
Is the love I gave her in the past
Gonna be enough to last
If tomorrow never comes
So tell that someone that you love
Just what you're thinking of
Our guardian star lost all its glow
The day that I lost you
It lost all its glitter the day you said no
And its grey skies turned to blue
Like him I am doubtful
That your love is true
So if you decide to call on me
Ask for Mr. Blue
I'm Mr. Blue
When you say you love me
Then prove it by goin' out on the sly
Provin' your love is untrue
Call me Mr. Blue
I'm Mr. Blue
When you say you're sorry
Then turn around headed for the lights of town
Hurtin' me through and through
Call me Mr. Blue
I sleep alone each night
Wait by the phone each night
But you don't call
And I won't hurt my pride
Call me mister
I won't tell you
When you paint the town
A bright red to turn it upside down
I'm painting it too
But I'm painting it blue
I sleep alone each night
Wait by the phone each night
But you don't call
And I won't hurt my pride
Call me mister
I won't tell you
When you paint the town
A bright red to turn it upside down
I'm painting it too
But I'm painting it blue
Call me Mr. Blue
You were the first thing that I thought of
When I thought I drank you off my mind
When I get lost in the liquor
You're the only one I find
And if I did the things I oughta
You still would not be mine
So I'll keep a tight grip on the bottle
Gettin' loose and killin' time
This killin' time is killin' me
Drinking myself blind thinkin' I won't see
That if I cross that line and they bury me
Well I just might find I'll be killin' time for eternity
I don't know nothin' 'bout tomorrow
I've been lost in yesterday
I've spent all my life just dying
For a love that passed away
And if there's an end to all my sorrow
And this is the only price I'll pay
I'll be a happy man when I go
And I can't wait another day
This killin' time is killin' me
Drinking myself blind thinkin' I won't see
That if I cross that line and they bury me
Well I just might find I'll be killin' time for eternity
I've never ask you where you're goin'
I've never ask you where you've been
I've never called and checked your story
You stayed out with all your freinds
I've never tried to catch you lyin'
I didn't want to know the truth
I'd rather go on lovin' blind girl
Than go on lovin' without you
I wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then
I wish I could start this whole thing over again
I'm not sayin' it's you could never be true
I just don't wanna know how it ends
You'd still have my heart in the palm of your hands
I'd still look like a fool in front of your friends
Yeah I wish somehow I didn't know now what I didn't know then
I've always said what I don't know
Couldn't hurt as bad as leavin' you
Turns out I knew what I was thinkin'
It ain't an easy thing to do
Well I guess I should be goin'
I sure found out too much to stay
Please don't say your sorry
I might wait another day
I wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then
I wish I could start this whole thing over again
I'm not sayin' it's you could never be true
I just don't wanna know how it ends
You'd still have my heart in the palm of your hands
I'd still look like a fool in front of your friends
Yeah I wish somehow I didn't know now what I didn't know then
You'd still have my heart in the palm of your hand
I'd still look like a fool in front of your freinds
Yeah I wish somehow I didn't know now what I didn't know then
Skippin’ school when I was a senior
My brother’s ID and some cheap beer
Freebird blasting on the radio
Mama didn’t like it but I let my hair grow
And I remember you and me
Drawing hearts in the window steam
Holding on to seventeen
Those days ain’t ever coming back
Swept away by the winds of change
Time only moves one way
Baby out of all the things I’ve had to let go
I miss you the most
Back row of the drive-in in my old coupe
Fumbling through the innocence of my youth
With our initials overlooking the town
Back before they tore the water tower down
And I remember you and me
Drawing hearts in the window steam
Holding on to seventeen
Those days ain’t ever coming back
Swept away by the winds of change
Time only moves one way
Baby out of all the things I’ve had to let go
I miss you the most
Hey I remember you and me
Drawing hearts in the window steam
Holding on to seventeen
Those days ain’t ever coming back
Swept away by the winds of change
Time only moves one way
Baby out of all the things I’ve had to let go
I miss you the most
If I seem like a little too much to handle
If I laugh like an angel on judgment day
If I burn like the sparks of a roman candle
Oh baby you made me that way
If my heart starts to pound like a bass drum drummin'
Like the beat when an old Sun record plays
And if I turn my back when the train is comin'
Oh baby you made me that way
I used to play it safe
Never thinkin' what I might miss
Who knew there'd come a day
I would come alive like this
With just one kiss
If I choose the edge over the middle
If I moan at the sound of a certain name
And if I lean just this side of illegal
Oh baby you made me that way
Well I used to play it safe
Never thinkin' what I might miss
Who knew there'd come a day
I would come alive like this
With just one kiss
If I seem like a little too much to handle
If I laugh like an angel on judgment day
And if I burn like the sparks from a roman candle
Oh baby you made me that way
Well, I'm proud to say
I could tell she was a hot rod when she walked in all alone
Made a pit stop at the front bar, in a puff of smoke was gone
I followed her smell of perfume, cause she was too far out of sight
Tried to catch up but the girl was running one hell of a race tonight
She's a real low maintenance, country music beat driven, honky-tonk dancin' machine
All it takes to keep her tuned up is boots and Wrangler jeans
She scoots about fifty times around the floor on one shot of Jim Beam
She's a real low maintenance, country music beat driven, honky-tonk dancin' machine
There's a guy on every corner, watching her make the bend
Hoping he'll be the next one to take her for a spin
She's not the kind that can be hot wired with money or romance
Got a body for pleasure, but all she wants to do is dance
She's a real low maintenance, country music beat driven, honky-tonk dancin' machine
All it takes to keep her tuned up is boots and Wrangler jeans
She scoots about fifty times around the floor on one shot of Jim Beam
She's a real low maintenance, country music beat driven, honky-tonk dancin' machine
She scoots about fifty times around the floor on one shot of Jim Beam
She's a real low maintenance, country music beat driven, honky-tonk dancin' machine
Don't be afraid darling you can tell me
What it takes to make your world turn
If you're willing there's time
And if you're so inclined
Just give me a sign
I wanna take love lessons baby from you
Whatever it is you want I want to please you
I wanna take love lessons baby real slow
Teach me everything I need to know
Take my hand let's talk about us
Whisper soft what it is you're thinking of
I wanna hold you tight
Won't you show me how tonight
Let's turn down the lights
I wanna take love lessons baby from you
Whatever it is you want I want to please you
I wanna take love lessons baby real slow
Teach me everything I need to know
Go ahead and tell me that you never really loved me, baby
Go ahead and tell me that the things I do have always made you crazy
Don't worry, darling
Don't worry, darling, that's okay
'Cause I'm gonna love you anyway
I'm gonna love you anyway
Go ahead and let it fall to pieces, tell me I've been blind
Maybe if I'd only seen it coming I'd have found a way to change your mind
Don't worry, darling
Don't worry, darling, that's okay
'Cause I'm gonna love you anyway
I'm gonna love you anyway
I'm gonna love you
In spite of it all
Drop everything, baby, run when you call
You're gonna stumble
You're gonna fall
And I'll be there
I'll be there for you
Go ahead and tell me that you're sorry no one else could take my place
I know that's what you're thinking I can see it by the way it's written on your face
Don't worry, darling
Don't worry, darling, that's okay
'Cause I'm gonna love you anyway
I'm gonna love you anyway
I'm gonna love you anyway
Hugged your friends
Kissed your mama goodbye
Baby in your arms and a tear in your eye
Twelve hundred miles and you never asked why from me
Me and the baby and you side by side
We all knew we was in for a long hard ride
Nowhere to run and nowhere to hide it seemed
We honked the horn when we crossed the state line
Woke up the baby and she started to cry
She must have known what we we're goin' to find
This ain't nothin' but a heartbreak town
Square people in a world that's round
And they watch you dancin' without the sound
It ain't nothin', no nothin'
You take your number and you stand in line
And they watch to see how high you're gonna climb
Pat on the back 'n' better luck next time
It ain't nothing, no it ain't nothin' but a heartbreak town
Stardust well it's a funny thing
It can make you cuss
It can make you sing
And the need to touch it gets hard to explain somedays
I've seen 'em rise and I've seen 'em fall
Some get nothin' and Lord some get it all
Some just run while others crawl away
Hold my hand baby don't let go
I've got some front money and I've got a next show
And I'm, I'm gonna need you down this yellow brick road
This ain't nothin' but a heartbreak town
Square people in a world that's round
And they watch you dancin' without the sound
It ain't nothin', no it ain't nothin' no
You take your number and you stand in line
And they watch to see how high you're gonna climb
Pat on the back 'n' better luck next time
It ain't nothing, no it ain't nothin' but a heartbreak town
Town
We're tied to our memories
They won't let us stray
We're not gonna lose ones we made yesterday
We look to our future
And we make all our plans
As if we control what is out of our hands
The world keeps on turning
I'm learning to see
Right where I am is where I have to be
You can't count the pages
All ages hear the call
No matter how hard we try
Life gets away from us all
We start getting older
The moment we live
Look over your shoulder
There's hindsight to give
Come good days and bad days
The sun's gonna rise
So why look beyond what's
In front of your eyes
The world keeps on turning
I'm learning to see
Right where I am is where I have to be
You can't count the pages
All ages hear the call
No matter how hard we try
Life gets away from us all
No matter how hard we try
Ain't no talkin' to this man
Ain't no pretty other side
Ain't no way to understand the stupid words of pride
It would take an acrobat and I already tried all that
I'm gonna let him fly - mmm
Things can move at such a pace
The second hand just waves goodbye
You know the light has left his face You can't recall just where or why
So there was really nothin' to it
I just wanna cut right through it
I said I'm gonna let him fly
Ooh yea yeah
There's no mercy in a live wire
No rest at all in freedom
Choices we are given
There's no choice at all, uh huh
The proof is in the fire
You're tough before it it moves away, yea
But you must always know how long to stay and when to go
And there ain't no talkin' to this man
He's been tryin' to tell me so
It took awhile to understand the beauty of just letting go
'Cause it would take an acrobat 'n' I already tried all that
I'm gonna let him fly
I'm gonna let him fly - fly whoa
I'm gonna let him fly - fly
I was getting kinda tired of her endless chatter
Nothing I could say ever seemed to matter
So I took a little drive just to clear my head
I saw a flashing neon up ahead
It looked like a place to find some satisfaction
With a little less talk and a lot more action
I paid the man at the door and pushed my way to the bar
Shouted for a drink over a screaming guitar
A drunk on a stool tried to mess with my head
But I didn't even listen to a word he said
I knew somewhere amid all this distraction
Was a little less talk and a lot more action
A little less talk if you please
A lot more loving is what I need
Let's get on down to the main attraction
With a little less talk and a lot more action
Well she was fighting them off at a corner table
She had a longneck bottle she was peeling the label
The look on her face it was perfectly clear
She said somebody please get me out of here
The look she shot me through the glass refraction
Said a little less talk and a lot more action
A little less talk if you please
A lot more loving is what I need
Let's get on down to the main attraction
With a little less talk and a lot more action
A little less talk
A lot more loving
Let's get on down to the main attraction
With a little less talk and a lot more action
Get on down to the main attraction
If you're gonna play the jukebox
Would you kindly keep it country
‘Cause I'm feelin' so lonely tonight
Oh please play a sad song about a heart that's just been stepped on
Would you kindly keep it country for me tonight
I'd get up off this bar stool if you'd play something we could dance to
Oh, a song about a love that's gone astray
Oh I love to hear ‘em sing about the misery and pain
Would you kindly keep it country for me tonight
Oh please play a sad song about a heart that's just been stepped on
Would you kindly keep it country for me tonight
I dressed up in my best
My Ropers and my vest
And waited by the door with these roses
Till you came walkin' in
With your high falutin' friends
So busy lookin' down your noses
Now here you are ignorin' me
Girl I might as well be
Walkin' to Jerusalem
Marchin' with Methuselah
Readin' signs in Arabic
Ravin' like a lunatic
By the time you tell me I'm the one
I'll be stickin' out my thumb
And walkin' to Jerusalem
You wore your boots last night
You kissed me and held me tight
You said you'd always be my cowgirl
But tonight you're hangin' out
With that Christian Dior crowd
So where does that leave me now girl
You're as cold as Polar regions
I oughta join the French Foreign Legion And Go
Walkin' to Jerusalem
Marchin' with Methuselah
Readin' signs in Arabic
Ravin' like a lunatic
By the time you tell me I'm the one
I'll be stickin' out my thumb
And walkin' to Jerusalem
I can see me in a long robe
Studyin' the book of Job and
Walkin' to Jerusalem
Marchin' with Methuselah
Readin' signs in Arabic
And ravin' like a lunatic
By the time you tell me I'm the one
I'll be stickin' out my thumb
And walkin'
By the time you tell me I'm the one
I'll be stickin' out my thumb
And walkin' to Jerusalem
And walkin' to Jerusalem
He's Cadillac Jack Favor and the name rings true
If he's got a ride any stranger would too
The one bad habit that his Ponder would say
Is sure gonna put him through the trials one day
And that's just what happened he took pity on two men
Heading down to Louisiana, he stopped and let them in
And the thanks he did for helping them
Would make him wish he was busting broncs again
He dropped them off in Bossieer City where they met up with a man
That vagabond commitee barely even had a plan
It was just a simple robbery turned double homicide
They got away with murder it'd be someone else's hide
Almost two years come and gone they never solved that crime
'Til they found one of our vagabonds already doing time
When that jailbird started singing they all knew the words were wrong
But the sheriff and the DA and the judge all sang along
They pinned it on Jack Favor, gave him life without parole
Gave Jack's freedom to the jailbird, payment on the lies he told
Just so happens that election year everybody payed out at the polls
Cadillac's no fallen hero and he's never gonna break
When it comes to prison rodeo, there'll be no easy eight
And if you want the definition of the picture-perfect frame
It'd be in the dictionary underneath Jack Favor's name
Cadillac's no fallen hero and he's never gonna break
When it comes to prison rodeo, there's still no easy eight
And if you want the definition of the picture-perfect frame
It'd be in the dictionary underneath Jack Favor's name
Yeah, it's the world's most crooked picture and when it comes to being framed
They say mother earth is breathing
With each wave that finds the shore
Her soul rises in the evening
For to open twilights door
Her eyes are the stars in heaven
Watching o'er us all the while
And her heart it is in Ireland
Deep within the Emerald Isle
We are forty against hundreds
In someone else's bloody war
We know not why were fighting
Or what we're dying for
They will storm us in the morning
When the sunlight turns to sky
Death is waiting for its dance now
Fate has sentenced us to die
Ireland I am coming home
I can see your rolling fields of green
And fences made of stone
I am reaching out won't you take my hand
I'm coming home Ireland
Oh the captain he lay bleeding
I can hear him calling me
These men are yours now for the leading
Show them to their destiny
As I look up all around me
I see the ragged tired and torn
I tell them to make ready
'Cause we're not waiting for the morn
Ireland I am coming home
I can see your rolling fields of green
And fences made of stone
I am reaching out won't you take my hand
I'm coming home Ireland
Now the fog is deep and heavy
As we forge the dark and fear
We can hear their horses breathing
As in silence we draw near
There are no words to be spoken
Just a look to say good-bye I draw a breath and night is broken
As I scream our battle cry
Ireland I am coming home
I can see your rolling fields of green
And fences made of stone
I am reaching out won't you take my hand
I'm coming home Ireland
Yes I am home Ireland
The rumor going 'round
Is that I haven't shed a tear
But don't they know you can't believe
Everything you hear
'Cause ever since you left
I've been a master of disguise
I may be smiling on the outside
But don't look into my eyes, 'cause
The inside story
Is as clear as black and white
I still dream about you
When I turn out the lights
The news out on the street
Says you didn't break my heart
But the inside story
Is tearing me apart
I thought maybe there was something wrong
That we’d work out in time
And looking back I can see
I didn't read between the lines
And now my pride helps me hide the pain
So it's not written on my face
When we pass I'll pretend your memory
Was easy to erase, but
The inside story
Is as clear as black and white
I still dream about you
When I turn out the lights
The news out on the street
Says you didn't break my heart
But the inside story
Is tearing me apart
Oh the inside story
I've done my share of walkin' out
I've kept your heart in a state of doubt
I'm gonna change, I know I can
There'll be no more walkin' out, I'm walkin' in
I'm walkin' in through that door
I know I've let you down but I ain't gonna do it no more
I'm back to stay to the lovin' end
There'll be no more walkin' out, I'm walkin' in
These shoes of mine have had their day
Of runnin' 'round on you this way
I'll be a better man for where I've been
There'll be no more walkin' out, I'm walkin' in
I'm walkin' in through that door
I know I've let you down but I ain't gonna do it no more
I'm back to stay to the lovin' end
There'll be no more walkin' out, I'm walkin' in
When you hear me knock, don't be alarmed
Just turn that lock and open up your arms
I'm walkin' in through that door
I know I've let you down but I ain't gonna do it no more
I'm back to stay to the lovin' end
There'll be no more walkin' out, I'm walkin' in
You said you need a little time
A little time to yourself
I'm staring down this telephone wonderin'
There might be someone else
If a man answers when I call
I'll just hang up I won't say anything at all
If a man answers I know what I'll do
I'll lie here awake so I don't dream about you
If a man answers this time of night
At least I'll know somebody's holding you tight
If a man answers I won't call again
And I'll know where I stand while I twist in the wind
Oh baby I'm just missin' you
I'm crazy still in love with you
I know my heart will break in two
If a man answers, if a man answers
I just gotta tell you girl
Maybe somehow make you see
How much I want you to come back to me
But if a man answers you'll never know
He'll let you sleep while I let you go
Oh baby I'm just missin' you
I'm crazy still in love with you
I know my heart will break in two
If a man answers, if a man answers
If a man answers you'll never know
If a man answers I'll let you go
If a man answers this time of night
If a man answers he's holding you tight
If a man answers, if a man answers
If a man answers, if a man answers
If a man answers, oh if a man answers
Seven weeks have passed now since she left me
She shows her face to ask me how I am
She says the kids are fine and that they miss me
Maybe I could come and baby-sit sometime
She says, "are; you o.k I was worried about you
Can you forgive me I hope that you'll be happy"
I said, "I;'m so happy that I can't stop crying
I'm so happy I'm laughing through my tears"
I saw a friend of mine he said, "I; was worried about you
I heard she had another man, I wondered how you felt about it"
I'm so happy that I can't stop crying
I'm so happy I'm laughing through my tears
Saw my lawyer, Mr. good news he got me
Joint custody and legal separation
So I'm so happy that I can't stop crying
I'm laughing through my tears,
I'm laughing through my tears
I took a walk alone last night
I looked up at the stars
To try to find an answer in my life
I chose a star for me I chose a star for him
I chose two stars for my kids and one star for my wife
Something made me smile
Something seemed to ease the pain
Something about the universe and how it's all connected
The park is full of sunday fathers and melted ice cream
We try to do the best within the given time
A kid should be with his mother everybody knows that
What can a father do but baby-sit sometimes
I saw that friend of mine, he said, "you; look different somehow"
I said, "everybody;'s got to leave the darkness sometime"
I said, "I;'m so happy that I can't stop crying
I'm laughing through my tears
I'm laughing through my tears"
I'm so happy that I can't stop crying
Well I know this guy
We have a real good time
I let him get a little close
Do I like him, yes, do I love him, no
We don't fight and all my friends say we look good together
But try as I might I just don't see me with him forever
I don't want a man I can live with
I want a love that leaves no room for doubt
I don't want a man I can live with
I want a man that I can't live without
Well I know this other guy
The kind that mamas like
He wears armani suits
He wants to marry me, he's got money to boot
Imagine that I'd have a life that's easy to get used to
Matter of fact, there's a real good reason I don't choose to
I don't want a man I can live with
I want a love that leaves no room for doubt
I don't want a man I can live with
I want a man that I can't live without
I don't want somebody
Just to have somebody
That's how I am
I'm that kind of girl
Even if it takes all the time in the world
I don't want a man I can live with
I want a love that leaves no room for doubt
I don't want a man I can live with
I want a man that I can't live without
I want a man that I can't live without
Well I know this guy
We have a real good time
And I know this other guy
He makes me feel real nice
And there's this guy I like
But do I love him, no
'Cause I want a man
From a phone booth in Cheyenne
I made a promise to Diane
No more rodeos
I'd gone my last go 'round
The same promise that I made
In San Antone and Santa Fe
But tonight I saddled up
And let her down
Wild horses keep draggin' me away
And I'll lose more than I'm gonna win someday
Wild horses just stay wild
And her heart is all I break
Wild horses keep draggin' me away
She'll watch me drive around her block
Gettin' courage up to stop
To make her one more promise
That I can't keep
The way I love the rodeo
I guess I should let her go
Before I hurt her more
Than she loves me
Wild horses keep draggin' me away
And I'll lose more than I'm gonna win someday
Wild horses just stay wild
And her heart is all I break
Wild horses keep draggin' me away
Wild horses keep draggin' me away
And I'll lose more than I'm gonna win someday
Wild horses just stay wild
And her heart is all I break
Hole in my head
Hole in my head
I need a boy like you like a hole in my head
I need a boy like you like a hole in my head
Let's just say we will and then don't instead
Wild goose chase
Wild goose chase
You're gonna take me boy on a wild goose chase
You're gonna take me boy on a wild goose chase
You better find somebody to take my place
You took my imagination and stomped it in the ground
Now I can only think about you chasing the tracks that you were left around
Hole in my head
Hole in my head
Oh I need a boy like you like a hole in my head
I need a boy like you like a hole in my head
You make me feel so bad that I wish I was dead
Let the games begin
Yeah here I go again
I'm never gonna win
It must have knocked me crazy it must have hit me hard
People must think I'm lazy
Like a shuffle short of a playin' card
Wild goose chase
Wild goose chase
Oh I need a boy like you like a wild goose chase
I need a boy like you like a wild goose chase
You better find somebody to take my place
Let the games begin
Yeah here I go again
I need a boy like you (I need a boy like you)
I need a boy like you (I need a boy like you)
I need a boy like you
Like a hole in my head
Hole in my head
Hole in my head
Hole in my head
Hole in my head
Like a hole in my head
I need a boy like you (I need a boy like you)
Blame it all on my roots
I showed up in boots
And ruined your black tie affair
The last one to know
The last one to show
I was the last one
You thought you'd see there
And I saw the surprise
And the fear in his eyes
When I took his glass of champagne
And I toasted you
Said honey we may be through
But you'll never hear me complain
'Cause I've got friends in low places
Where the whiskey drowns
And the beer chases my blues away
And I'll be okay
I'm not big on social graces
Think I'll slip on down to the oasis
Oh I've got friends in low places
Well I guess I was wrong
I just don't belong
But then I've been there before
Everything's all right
I'll just say goodnight
And I'll show myself to the door
Hey I didn't mean
To cause a big scene
Just give me an hour and then
Well I'll be as high
As that ivory tower
That you're livin' in
'Cause I've got friends in low places
Where the whiskey drowns
And the beer chases my blues away
And I'll be okay
I'm not big on social graces
Think I'll slip on down to the oasis
Oh I've got friends in low places
I've got friends in low places
Where the whiskey drowns
And the beer chases my blues away
And I'll be okay
I'm not big on social graces
Think I'll slip on down to the oasis
Oh I've got friends in low places
I've got friends in low places
Where the whiskey drowns
And the beer chases my blues away
And I'll be okay
I'm not big on social graces
Think I'll slip on down to the oasis
Oh I've got friends in low places
I've got friends in low places
Where the whiskey drowns
And the beer chases my blues away
Hello Mr. Heartache I've been expecting come in and wear your welcome out
The way you always do
You never say if you're here to stay
Or only passin' through
Hello Mr. Heartache
I've been expectin' you
When I don't feel like company
You make yourself at home
Even though you know
I'd rather be alone
Love walked out on me
And didn't even close the door
Next thing I know I'm starin'
At your shadow on the floor
Hello Mr. Heartache I've been expecting you
Come in and wear your welcome out
The way you always do
You never say if you're here to stay
Or only passin' through
Hello Mr. Heartache
I've been expectin' you
I wish that I could say it's nice
To see you back again
We're not exactly strangers
But we're not exactly friends
You know you're not invited but
You keep on comin' 'round
Last thing that I need is you
To kick me when I'm down
Hello Mr. Heartache I've been expecting you
Come in and wear your welcome out
The way you always do
You never say if you're here to stay
Or only passin' through
Hello Mr. Heartache
I've been expectin' you
I've been expectin' you
I've been expectin' you
You say you wanna let me go
Well there’s one thing that you should know
I’ll walk away willingly
And you’ll never even hear me leave
I’ll go quietly
I’ll go silently
But I’ll go crazy without you
Insane with a heart so blue
They’ll have to lock me away
And I won’t last one day
Without you baby
I’ll go crazy
I never thought I’d see the day
When I’d have to walk away
But I still think there’s a ray of hope
But you’re the one who’s letting go
I’ll go easily
I’ll go where you please
But I’ll go crazy without you
Insane with a heart so blue
They’ll have to lock me away
And I won’t last one day
Without you baby
I’ll go crazy
I’ll go and take the blame
I’ll go down in flames
But I’ll go crazy without you
Insane with a heart so blue
They’ll have to lock me away
And I won’t last one day
Without you baby
I’ll go crazy
Hey I’ll go crazy
I've seen it going around when you get bad news
Thinking that you found a darker shade of blues
Looking for the light and it's a long way back
You know without a fight you're gonna fade to black
Never was a man that ever felt this way
One who couldn't live to see another day
Hard times seem to have the corner on you
But you can rise from the ashes too
When I'm on my knees and everything has gotten me beat
And even I believe I'm never gonna find my feet
Two ways you can go you can ask anybody around
One man's half way up is another man's half way down
Now you may decide it's a losing game
Even in your stride you're gonna call it lame
Getting one leg up when it's said and done
Is the hardest part no matter how you run
If you can walk away from a crash and burn
You'll appreciate every step you earn
And if you feel the ground is gaining on you
You're already bound to take a different view
When I'm on my knees and everything has gotten me beat
And even I believe I'm never gonna find my feet
Two ways you can go you can ask anybody around
One man's half way up is another man's half way down
One man's ceiling is another man's floor
One man's wall could be another man's door
One man's smile is another man's frown
If I wanted it easy I'd a been gone by now
If I though it was simple I'd have figured it out
But this thing called love takes everything that I've got
I'm not sure what it is but I'm sure what it's not
'Cause baby you and I got different ways of saying the same thing 'cause
Love is hard from start to finish
And if you love you gotta put your whole heart in it
And if it's right you'll know in a minute
Doin' things you never thought you could
Love is hard, but baby life is good
We can say things that cut to the bone
We want to be together but we want to be alone
Sometimes it seems we're on different tracks
We might walk away but we'll always come back
Baby you and me got different ways of saying the same thing
We both know
Love is hard from start to finish
And if you love you gotta put your whole heart in it
And if it's right you'll know in a minute
Doin' things you never thought you could
Love is hard, but baby life is good
Oh, so good
Love is hard from start to finish
And if you love you gotta put your whole heart in it
And if it's right you'll know in a minute
Doin' things you never thought you could
Love is hard, but baby life is good
Love is hard
Life's so good
Love is hard
Life's so good
Love is hard
Life's so good
Love is hard
I've been bound to leave you, we've known that for awhile
I'm sure it's something I can't do if I can't leave you with a smile
I don't know how far I'll have to go 'til I'm sure those eyes won't cry
And in my mind I've left enough to know that I can't leave you
With a bad goodbye
Goodbye, easier said than done
Goodbye, there's no good when you're the one
Whose goodbye you swore would never come
And in my goodbye you're finding none
I'm still bound to leave you, I surely don't know how
My heart won't let me put you through
What my mind says should happen now
I don't know where we'll go from here, there may be no way to fly
And the cloud I'm in just makes it all too clear that I can't leave you
With a bad goodbye
Goodbye, easier said than done
Goodbye, there's no good when you're the one
Whose goodbye you swore would never come
And in my goodbye you're finding none
How can we be so far between where we are and one more try
And any way I look, I've only seen that I can't leave you
Well it seems these days everybody's in a hurry
First to get the worm them birds are losin' their minds
Well I can say I don't like wakin' up that early
The only way to live is when I'm takin my time
'Cause life's too short to live it too fast
I can't smell a rose I've already passed
I've learned one lesson to lessen the sorrow
If it's a good idea today it will be a good idea tomorrow
Now I ain't sayin' hard work is no good
We've all got to pull the weight that's on our backs
There's just one thing to remember if we could
All work and no play don't make jack
'Cause life's too short to live it too fast
I can't smell a rose I've already passed
I've learned one lesson to lessen the sorrow
If it's a good idea today it will be a good idea tomorrow
'Cause what's the use in livin', if we ain't livin'
Slow that engine down and enjoy the ride
'Cause there ain't no stoppin' that clock from tickin'
So love the ones you love while you've got the time
'Cause life's too short to live it too fast
I can't smell a rose I've already passed
I've learned one lesson to lessen the sorrow
If it's a good idea today it will be a good idea tomorrow
If it's a good idea today it will be a good idea tomorrow
(Life's too short)
Good idea tomorrow
(Life's too short)
Good idea tomorrow
(Life's too short)
In the pale neon light of a Saturday night
You'll see him walk up to the bar
He'll size up the ladies, the "no;'s" and the "maybe;'s"
Till he finds one who'll let down her guard
Then the band on his hand gets slipped off again
And his disarming charm starts to work
And with a drink and a lie in the blink of an eye
Something amazing occurs
He's suddenly single
Instantly free
And for three or four hours
He's the man of her dreams
He acts like there's no one waiting at home
He'll be suddenly single
Till he's suddenly gone
He sneaks through the door at a quarter to four
But tonight there's no one to wake
The note that she wrote him says, I've given up hoping
I’d be able to change you someday
He sits on the bed shaking head
A man in complete disbelief
He knows what he's lost
Oh but he never thought
Someday he'd really be
Suddenly single
Instantly free
And for the rest of his life
She'll haunt his dreams
And now there'll be no one waiting at home
He's suddenly single
'Cause she's suddenly gone
He's suddenly single
Was it the pull of the moon now baby
That led you to my door
You say the night's got you acting crazy
I think it's somethin' more
I never felt the earth move honey
Until you shook my tree
Nobody runs from the law now baby
Of love and gravity it pulls you so strong
Baby you gotta hold on
If I fall you're goin' down with me
You're goin' down with me baby if I fall
You can't take back every little chill you give me
You're goin' down with me baby heart and all
We're hangin' right on the edge now baby
The wind is gettin' stronger
We're hangin' on by a thread now honey
We can't hold on much longer
It's a long way down but it's too late
If I fall you're goin' down with me
You're goin' down with me baby if I fall
You can't take back every little chill you give me
You're goin' down with me baby heart and all
Ooh, baby, I couldn't get any higher
This time I'm willin' to dance on the wire
If I fall
If I fall
If I fall you're goin' down with me
You're goin' down with me baby if I fall
You can't take back every little chill you give me
You're goin' down with me baby heart and all
If I fall
If I fall
Well boy meets girl and it's a good bet
Girl's gonna play a little hard to get
But they both got the same thing on their mind
Ain't that the way that the world goes round
Don't it get you up get you down
It gets you walking around with a flashlight trying to find
Love
Oooh gotta getcha some gotta getcha some gotta getcha some
Oooh gotta getcha some love
Then boy sees girl with another guy
What he wouldn't give just to catch her eye 'cause man
She is so hot
But you can't compete with a superstar
He's got a big old house and little red car
And what need is the one thing you ain't got money
Oooh gotta getcha some gotta getcha some gotta getcha some
Oooh gotta getcha some money
Oooh gotta getcha some gotta getcha some gotta getcha some
Oooh gotta getcha some yeah
Then god smiles down from up above
The money rolls in and they fall in love
From the outside looking in it's a dream come true
But as time goes by something turns up missing
There's not enough hugging and not enough kissing
Before to long they better do what they gotta do you know
Oooh gotta getcha some gotta getcha some gotta getcha some
Oooh gotta getcha some babies
Oooh gotta getcha some gotta getcha some gotta getcha some
Oooh gotta getcha some yeah
You know curtain climbers, and rugrats, and tricycle motors
It don't matter what you call 'em you gotta have a whole house full of 'em
Yes she's my lady luck
Hey I'm her wild card man
Together we're buildin' up a real hot hand
We live out in the country
Hey she's my little queen of the South
Yea we're two of a kind
Workin' on a full house
She wakes me every mornin'
With a smile and a kiss
Her strong country lovin' is hard to resist
She's my easy lovin' woman
I'm her hard-workin' man no doubt
Yea, we're two of a kind
Workin' on a full house
Yeah our pickup truck is her limousine
And her favorite dress is her faded blue jeans
She loves me tender when the goin' gets tough
Somtimes we fight just so we can make up
Lord I need that little woman
Like the crops need the rain
She's my honeycomb and I'm her sugar cane
We really fit together
If you know what I'm talkin' about
Yeah we're two of a kind
Workin' on a full house
This time I found a keeper I made up my mind
Lord the perfect combination is her heart and mine
The sky's the limit no hill is too steep
We're playin' for fun but we're playin' for keeps
So draw the curtain honey
Turn the lights down low
We'll find some country music on the radio
I'm yours and you're mine
Hey that's what it's all about
Yeah we're two of a kind
Workin' on a full house
Lordy mama we'll be two of a kind
Blame it all on my roots
I showed up in boots
And ruined your black tie affair
The last one to know
The last one to show
I was the last one
You thought you'd see there
And I saw the surprise
And the fear in his eyes
When I took his glass of champagne
And I toasted you
Said honey we may be through
But you'll never hear me complain
'Cause I've got friends in low places
Where the whiskey drowns
And the beer chases my blues away
And I'll be okay
I'm not big on social graces
Think I'll slip on down to the oasis
Oh I've got friends in low places
Well I guess I was wrong
I just don't belong
But then, I've been there before
Everything's all right
I'll just say goodnight
And I'll show myself to the door
Hey I didn't mean

Just give me an hour and then
Well I'll be as high
As that ivory tower

'Cause I've got friends in low places

Oh I've got friends in low places
I've got friends in low places
Where the whiskey drowns
And the beer chases my blues away
And I'll be okay
I'm not big on social graces
Think I'll slip on down to the oasis
Oh I've got friends in low places
I've got friends in low places
Where the whiskey drowns
And the beer chases my blues away
He's got a split finger wrap
And his rope's pulled way to tight
He's got a lunatic smile
'Cause he's really drawn deep tonight
He's got a fever, fever, fever, fever
Grab a hold of anything and hold on tight
It hits you like the venom from a rattle snake bite
We're all here 'cause he's not all there tonight
He takes one breath
And time turns inside out
Then the gate busts open
To the world he dreams about
He's got a fever, fever, fever, fever
Stick a rope on anything 'cause he don't care
He'd even take a ride on the electric chair
We're all here cause he's not all there tonight
He says it's really kind of simple
Keep your mind in the middle
While your butt spins 'round and 'round
Take heed to Sankey's preachin'
Keep liftin' and reachin'
And ridin' like there ain't no clowns
What he loves might kill him
But he's got no choice
He's a different breed
With a voice down deep inside
That's screamin' he was born to ride
He's got a fever, fever, fever, fever
Fever makes you crazy 'cause it makes no sense
Like runnin' from your shadow out of self-defense
He won't run and baby he can't hide
He thinks the odds are even leavin' one hand tied
He gets so tired of hangin' on so tight
I know you think he's crazy well I think you're right
She's sun and rain, she's fire and ice
A little crazy but it's nice
And when she gets mad, you best leave her alone
'Cause she'll rage just like a river
Then she'll beg you to forgive her
Oh she's every woman that I've ever known
She's so New York and then L.A.
And every town along the way
She's every place that I've never been
She's makin' love on rainy nights
She's a stroll through Christmas lights
And she's everything I want to do again
It needs no explanation
'Cause it all makes perfect sense
For when it comes down to temptation
She's on both sides of the fence
No it needs no explanation
'Cause it all makes perfect sense
When it comes down to temptation
She's on both sides of the fence
She's anything but typical
She's so unpredictable
Oh but even at her worst she ain't that bad
She's as real as real can be
And she's every fantasy
Lord she's every lover that I've ever had
Mary Ann and Wanda were the best of friends
All through their high school days
Both members of the 4H club
Both active in the FFA
After graduation Mary Ann went out lookin' for a bright new world
Wanda looked all around this town and all she found was Earl
Well it wasn't two weeks after she got married that
Wanda started gettin' abused
She put on dark glasses and long sleeve blouses
And make-up to cover a bruise
Well she finally got the nerve to file for divorce
She let the law take it from there
But Earl walked right through that restraining order
And put her in intensive care
Right away Mary Ann flew in from Atlanta
On a red eye midnight flight
She held Wanda's hand and they worked out a plan
And it didn't take them long to decide
That Earl had to die
Goodbye Earl
Those black-eyed peas
They tasted alright to me Earl
You feelin' weak
Why don't you lay down and sleep Earl
Ain't it dark
Wrapped up in that tarp Earl
The cops came by to bring Earl in
They searched the house high and low
Then they tipped their hats and said 'thank you ladies if you hear from him let us know'
Well the weeks went by and
Spring turned to summer
And summer faded into fall
And it turns out he was a missing person who nobody missed at all
So the girls bought some land and a roadside stand
Out on highway 109
They sell Tennessee ham and strawberry jam
And they don't lose any sleep at night 'cause
Earl had to die
Goodnight Earl
We need a break
Let's go out to the lake Earl
We'll pack a lunch
And stuff you in the trunk Earl
Well is that all right
Good let's go for a ride
Earl hey
Well hey, hey, hey
Aw, hey, hey, hey
She left a yellow rose and a long neck bottle
On a table beside my bed
With a short little note said I had a good time
It was written in lipstick red
She didn't sign her name I wonder
If that's a little secret that she keeps
Ooo she's walkin' around in my sleep
Dream walkin' pillow talkin'
She's callin' my name again
Day's breakin' I ain't wakin' up I'm sleepin' in
I'm on a roll now I gotta know how this dream ends
She took my new sunglasses and my old jean jacket
And she never even bothered to ask
You could say I haven't seen her since late last summer
But every night she comes back
Just like smoke through the keyhole
She slips in so silently
Ooo she's walkin' around in my sleep
Dream walkin' pillow talkin'
She's callin' my name again
Day's breakin' I ain't wakin' up I'm sleepin' in
I'm on a roll now I gotta know how this dream ends
Ooo there's a thin line between dreams and memories
I'll be losin' my mind 'til she comes back to me
Dream walkin' pillow talkin'
She's callin' my name again
Day's breakin' I ain't wakin' up I'm sleepin' in
I'm on a roll now I gotta know how this dream ends
I'm on a roll now I gotta know how this dream ends
I'm on a roll now I gotta know how this dream ends
She's walkin' around in my sleep
Guess I'll be wearin' out another pair of walkin' shoes
Tryin' to reach the place I've always seen myself
And yesterday I thought that I might be right here with you
But today I realize it's always somewhere else
Somewhere down the road
There's a place for me I ain't ever been
Tears may fill my eyes when I go
But my heart seems to be
A dream ahead of me
Somewhere down the road
There's a restless wind blowin' that I need to ride
And I ain't sure I'll ever have a home
I'm just standin' at another place where roads divide
So hold me close tonight, 'cause tomorrow I'll be gone
Somewhere down the road
There's a place for me I ain't ever been
Tears may fill my eyes when I go
But my heart seems to be
A dream ahead of me
Somewhere down the road
Somewhere down the road
There's a place for me I ain't ever been
Tears may fill my eyes when I go
But my heart seems to be
A dream ahead of me
Somewhere down the road
(Somewhere down the road)
Somewhere down the road
