Tibetan Uprising may refer to:
Tibetan Uprising Day, observed on March 10, commemorates the 1959 Tibetan uprising against the presence of the People's Republic of China in Tibet. The failure of the armed rebellion ultimately resulted in a violent crackdown on Tibetan independence movements, and the flight of the Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso into exile.
Tibetan Uprising Day is observed primarily by organizations and individuals who support Tibet such as Students for a Free Tibet, and is often accompanied by the release of a statement by the Dalai Lama. Tibetan independence groups often organize protests or campaigns on March 10 to draw attention to the situation in Tibet.
In 2008, a series of riots and violent clashes broke out in the Tibetan city of Lhasa when monks were arrested during peaceful demonstrations. The events in Lhasa triggered a nationwide uprising with protests occurring in every region. The Central Tibetan Administration estimates the number of Protests to have occurred in 2008 to be 336.
Tibetan can refer to:
Rebellion, uprising, or insurrection is a refusal of obedience or order. It may, therefore, be seen as encompassing a range of behaviors aimed at destroying or taking over the position of an established authority such as a government, governor, president, political leader, financial institution or boss. The methods can be peaceful, such as civil disobedience, civil resistance and nonviolent resistance, or violent, such as terrorism, sabotage and guerrila warfare. Those who participate in rebellions, especially if they are armed, are known as "rebels".
Throughout history, many different groups that opposed their governments have been called rebels. Over 450 peasant revolts erupted in southwestern France between 1590 and 1715. In the United States, the term was used for the Continentals by the British in the Revolutionary War, and for the Confederacy by the Union in the American Civil War. Most armed rebellions have not been against authority in general, but rather have sought to establish a new government in their place. For example, the Boxer Rebellion sought to implement a stronger government in China in place of the weak and divided government of the time. The Jacobite Risings (called "Jacobite Rebellions" by the government) attempted to restore the deposed Stuart kings to the thrones of England, Ireland and Scotland, rather than abolish the monarchy completely.

Tibetan activists are holding protests in major cities around the world to mark the anniversary of Tibet's 1959 uprising against Chinese rule. The uprising took place just nine years after China annexed the region in what it refers to as a "peaceful liberation." But Human Rights groups and exiles have condemned Beijing's oppressive rule in Tibetan areas. Sarah Jones has more. 10th March marks the 55th Anniversary of the 1959 Tibetan National Uprising Day.- Remembering 1959! "They (Chinese Military Headquarters) wanted to know for definite when I would be free to attend the theatrical show, I replied that the 10th of March would be convenient. They insist that no Tibetan soldiers accompany me, adding that they wanted the whole affair to be conducted in absolute secrecy. Next morning ( 10th March 1959), after my prayers and then breakfast, I went outside in the quite early morning light for a walk in the garden. Suddenly, I was startled by shouting in the distance. They(People) had decided to come and protect me from the Chinese. All morning their numbers grew. By noon an estimated thirty thousand people had gathered". H.H. the Dalai Lama(Freedom in Exile)
