Fans of Umhlobo Wenene FM's flagship soapie got to see the radio drama unfold on stage in Grahamstown on Friday 4 October.
To celebrate its 500th episode, the cast of Ithini na le nto? (What does this mean?) performed the milestone episode at the Monument's Guy Butler theatre.
Over 500 local listeners flocked to the event and were thrilled to see the faces behind the voices they know so well.
Show producer Toffy Zitshu said it was a historical event.
"We did what was never done before in the history of South African radio," she said, "The radio drama was portrayed live on stage and directly transmitted live on radio."
The actors delivered an excellent performance without scripts, she said.
After the show, Makana Municipality Technical Services Portfolio Chairperson Councillor Nomhle Gaga took to the stage and thanked the station on behalf of the Mayor.
The function was well attended by representatives from the municipality.
Some may not know it, but Gaga said Umhlobo Wenene actually has its roots here in Grahamstown.
"Grahamstown was once home to this station when it was still known as Radio Xhosa," she explained, "so we have a history and an unshaken bond with this station."
Radio Xhosa was established in Grahamstown in 1960 and moved its base to King William's Town in 1966.
It has since relocated to Port Elizabeth where it rebranded itself as Umhlobo Wenene in 1988.
Gaga jokingly said the people of Grahamstown should have fought to keep the provincial station in the city like it fought to keep the high court from moving to Bhisho.
This was met with cheers and approving sounds from the audience.
Over the last few years Umhlobo Wenene has prided itself on producing popular dramas.
Among its hits are Kwa Qhosha Mbombo, Sithini na Kwezi zinto, Sazela Ndiyeke and the spine-chilling horror Ugonondo Omkhulu.
The list wouldn't be complete without mentioning the hard-hitting drama Uhlohl' esakhe (Self-enriching man).
This particular show landed writer Mandla Myeko in hot water with the then Ciskei government.
Former Ciskei president Lennox Sebe accused Myeko of using the drama as a metaphor to ridicule and criticise him and his National Independent Party. Myeko was detained but later released.
Breakfast show host Putco Mafani, who has featured in a number of Umhlobo Wenene's dramas, said, "art often imitates life in a drama series and the show was portraying the true reflection of the society at the time".
Mafani said Uhlohl' esakhe highlighted the injustices of political leaders who abused their power and privilege.

Sociologists are treading more boldly on ground that once was the sacred domain of Christianity. In recent years sociologists have tried to explain why certain universals exist among human beings. They are puzzled, for example, by the fact that a smile or a look of grief looks the same in every culture in the world.
Sociologists admit that they can find no way to explain how evolution could have created these universals. But they are not about to admit that perhaps their problem is that evolution is a myth.
Despite their inability to explain these basic features about people, sociologists are talking ever more seriously about social engineering -- changing society according to what they feel are proper principles for evolved creatures. Harvard's Edward Wilson warns that if society continues to live by conscience and what it considers to be God's will, there is little chance of creating what he views as a benevolent world. In other words, belief in God and doing His will among other humans is dangerous to society.
This shows us that what people believe about where they came from isn't simply a dry philosophical question. History is filled with people who used evolution to justify their attempts to do away with God's natural order among human beings. And every one has been a failure.
Father, preserve us from those who would set themselves over us because they think that they can invent a better order among human beings than You have given us. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

Lennox Leslie Wongamu Sebe (26 July 1926 – 23 July 1994) was chief minister of the Xhosa bantustan of Ciskei, and the country's first president, after its self-rule in 1972.
Born in Belstone, near King William's Town, Sebe worked first as a school teacher before being appointed as a school principal in 1954. In 1968, Sebe was elected as a representative of the Ama Ntinde Tribe in the Ciskeian Territorial Authority and became responsible for Educational and Cultural Affairs, before transferring to the Agriculture portfolio in 1971.
Sebe founded the Ciskei National Independent Party and contested Ciskei's inaugural election in February 1973. He was elected to the Zwelitsha electorate and succeeded Chief Justice Mabandla to become the second Chief Minister of Ciskei on May 21, 1973. He would then become President when Ciskei was granted nominal independence from South Africa on 4 December 1981. Sebe declared himself President for Life in 1983.
Sebe was faced with leading an economically unviable state, with a population of one million, many of them Xhosa forced to relocate to the bantustan in the 1970s, during South Africa's apartheid regime.

Ryan Rodney Reynolds (born October 23, 1976) is a Canadian film and television actor. Reynolds is known for playing the role of Michael Bergen on ABC's sitcom Two Guys and a Girl (1998–2001), Wade Wilson / Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and Hal Jordan / Green Lantern in Green Lantern. He has also appeared in films such as National Lampoon's Van Wilder, Just Friends, Definitely, Maybe, The Proposal, The Change-Up, and Safe House.
Reynolds was born in Vancouver, British Columbia. His father, Jim, is a food wholesaler, and his mother, Tammy, is a retail salesperson. He is of Irish ancestry and was raised as a Roman Catholic. The youngest of four brothers, he graduated from Kitsilano Secondary School in Vancouver in 1994. He later attended Kwantlen Polytechnic University, also in Vancouver, until dropping out.
Reynolds' career began in 1990 when he starred as "Billy" in the Canadian-produced teen soap Hillside, distributed in the United States by Nickelodeon as Fifteen. As an adult, Reynolds starred in the National Lampoon movie Van Wilder and the American television series Two Guys, A Girl and a Pizza Place, playing medical student Michael "Berg" Bergen. In 1993-94 he had a recurring role in The Odyssey as Macro. He also cameoed in Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle as a nurse, appeared in The In-Laws with Michael Douglas and Albert Brooks, as well as the Canadian production Foolproof.

Sir Ben Kingsley, CBE (born Krishna Pandit Bhanji;Gujarati:કૃષ્ણા પંડિત ભાનજી; 31 December 1943) is an English actor who has won an Oscar, BAFTA, Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild awards in his career. He is known for starring as Mohandas Gandhi in the film Gandhi in 1982, for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor. He is also known for his performances in the films Schindler's List (1993), Sexy Beast (2000), House of Sand and Fog (2003), and Hugo (2011).
Kingsley was born Krishna Pandit Bhanji in Snainton, North Yorkshire, England, the son of Anna Lyna Mary (née Goodman), an actress and model, and Rahimtulla Harji Bhanji, a medical doctor.
Kingsley's father, born in Kenya, is of Gujarati Indian descent; Kingsley's paternal grandfather was a spice trader who had moved from India to Zanzibar, where Kingsley's father lived until moving to England at the age of 14. Kingsley's mother, born out of wedlock, was "loath to speak of her background". Over 500 local listeners flocked to the event and were thrilled to see the faces behind the voices they know so well. Show producer Toffy Zitshu said it was a historical event. "We did what was never done before in the history of South African radio," she said, "The radio drama was portrayed live on stage and directly transmitted live on radio." The actors delivered an excellent performance without scripts, she said. After the show, Makana Municipality Technical Services Portfolio Chairperson Councillor Nomhle Gaga took to the stage and thanked the station on behalf of the Mayor. The function was well attended by representatives from the municipality. Some may not know it, but Gaga said Umhlobo Wenene actually has its roots here in Grahamstown. "Grahamstown was once home to this station when it was still known as Radio Xhosa," she explained, "so we have a history and an unshaken bond with this station." Radio Xhosa was established in Grahamstown in 1960 and moved its base to King William's Town in 1966. It has since relocated to Port Elizabeth where it rebranded itself as Umhlobo Wenene in 1988. Gaga jokingly said the people of Grahamstown should have fought to keep the provincial station in the city like it fought to keep the high court from moving to Bhisho. This was met with cheers and approving sounds from the audience. Over the last few years Umhlobo Wenene has prided itself on producing popular dramas. Among its hits are Kwa Qhosha Mbombo, Sithini na Kwezi zinto, Sazela Ndiyeke and the spine-chilling horror Ugonondo Omkhulu. The list wouldn't be complete without mentioning the hard-hitting drama Uhlohl' esakhe (Self-enriching man). This particular show landed writer Mandla Myeko in hot water with the then Ciskei government. Former Ciskei president Lennox Sebe accused Myeko of using the drama as a metaphor to ridicule and criticise him and his National Independent Party. Myeko was detained but later released. Breakfast show host Putco Mafani, who has featured in a number of Umhlobo Wenene's dramas, said, "art often imitates life in a drama series and the show was portraying the true reflection of the society at the time". Mafani said Uhlohl' esakhe highlighted the injustices of political leaders who abused their power and privilege. -

Black homeland leader Chief Lennox Sebe rejected a South African plan for "independence" for his Ciskeian people on Wednesday, (13 February), unless they were allowed to keep South African citizenship. Fans of Umhlobo Wenene FM's flagship soapie got to see the radio drama unfold on stage in Grahamstown on Friday 4 October.
To celebrate its 500th episode, the cast of Ithini na le nto? (What does this mean?) performed the milestone episode at the Monument's Guy Butler theatre.
Over 500 local listeners flocked to the event and were thrilled to see the faces behind the voices they know so well.
Show producer Toffy Zitshu said it was a historical event.
"We did what was never done before in the history of South African radio," she said, "The radio drama was portrayed live on stage and directly transmitted live on radio."
The actors delivered an excellent performance without scripts, she said.
After the show, Makana Municipality Technical Services Portfolio Chairperson Councillor Nomhle Gaga took to the stage and thanked the station on behalf of the Mayor.
The function was well attended by representatives from the municipality.
Some may not know it, but Gaga said Umhlobo Wenene actually has its roots here in Grahamstown.
"Grahamstown was once home to this station when it was still known as Radio Xhosa," she explained, "so we have a history and an unshaken bond with this station."
Radio Xhosa was established in Grahamstown in 1960 and moved its base to King William's Town in 1966.
It has since relocated to Port Elizabeth where it rebranded itself as Umhlobo Wenene in 1988.
Gaga jokingly said the people of Grahamstown should have fought to keep the provincial station in the city like it fought to keep the high court from moving to Bhisho.
This was met with cheers and approving sounds from the audience.
Over the last few years Umhlobo Wenene has prided itself on producing popular dramas.
Among its hits are Kwa Qhosha Mbombo, Sithini na Kwezi zinto, Sazela Ndiyeke and the spine-chilling horror Ugonondo Omkhulu.
The list wouldn't be complete without mentioning the hard-hitting drama Uhlohl' esakhe (Self-enriching man).
This particular show landed writer Mandla Myeko in hot water with the then Ciskei government.
Former Ciskei president Lennox Sebe accused Myeko of using the drama as a metaphor to ridicule and criticise him and his National Independent Party. Myeko was detained but later released.
Breakfast show host Putco Mafani, who has featured in a number of Umhlobo Wenene's dramas, said, "art often imitates life in a drama series and the show was portraying the true reflection of the society at the time".
Mafani said Uhlohl' esakhe highlighted the injustices of political leaders who abused their power and privilege.

Sociologists admit that they can find no way to explain how evolution could have created these universals. But they are not about to admit that perhaps their problem is that evolution is a myth.
Despite their inability to explain these basic features about people, sociologists are talking ever more seriously about social engineering -- changing society according to what they feel are proper principles for evolved creatures. Harvard's Edward Wilson warns that if society continues to live by conscience and what it considers to be God's will, there is little chance of creating what he views as a benevolent world. In other words, belief in God and doing His will among other humans is dangerous to society.
This shows us that what people believe about where they came from isn't simply a dry philosophical question. History is filled with people who used evolution to justify their attempts to do away with God's natural order among human beings. And every one has been a failure.
Father, preserve us from those who would set themselves over us because they think that they can invent a better order among human beings than You have given us. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

Sigurno jedan od najstarijih aktivnih MCjeva u Srbiji. Poceo 1994. godine kao član grupe CB4 iz Leskovca i do 2007. bio u ekipi. Iza sebe ima album CB4 - Ol Skul Shit (2004), kao i pojavljivanje na nekoliko poznatih izdanja kao gost. Nastupao je po celoj Srbiji, kao i u 4 navrata na EXIT festivalu (2003-2006), i na kraju odlučio da konačno snimi solo album, iako je više naklonjen grupnom radu.
