It is the highlight of the year for the Gutenberg Research College (GRC): the evening ceremony held to induct the new GRC fellows and to bestow the annual Gutenberg Research Award to internationally renowned researchers. Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) uses this occasion to put a spotlight on the outstanding performance of researchers and the successes they have enjoyed. "Since it was established in 2007, the Gutenberg Research College has been entrusted with nurturing individual excellence and thereby reinforcing existing and pre-eminent academic areas while also helping to launch new and promising fields of research," said Professor Matthias Neubert, Director of the GRC and head of the Theoretical High Energy Physics Group at Mainz University. "Thus we are very pleased today to greet the new GRC fellows and to bestow the 2015 Gutenberg Research Award to two outstanding international researchers." The prize, endowed with EUR 10,000 each, was awarded to the Japanese polymer chemist Professor Kazunori Kataoka and the theologian Professor Kwok Pui Lan, who teaches in the USA.

This is a lecture given by Tim Mcintosh from Gutenberg College in 2013. Gutenberg is a small university located in Eugene, Oregon. There is a view of life that says the larger the university is the more apt it is that truth will reside there but there is an equally valid point of view that says the larger the university is the more apt that untruth will reside there.
This video is lecture 2 from a series called Christianity in America. (Can we get along?)
It's basically about the First Great Awakening in America 1730-1740. Five individuals are discussed but only three of them are discussed at length for some reason.
Theodorus Jacobus Frelinghuysen (1692-1747), Gilbert Tennent 1703 -- 1764, Jonathan Edwards 1703-1758, George Whitefield 1714-1770, and John Wesley 1703-1791are credited with the historical event called "The First Great Awakening" where mass conversions to Christianity took place.
I wonder who the first two individuals were and how they fit in the story.
Gutenberg has placed the lecture in public domain so I added pictures to the audio for educational purposes. Some day I'll add pictures to my own audio. Until then I'll remain a student instead of a teacher.
This is a link to the whole lecture.

My fiance will be starting her masters at Cambridge in a few months and I wanted to learn more about the founding and history of the university to I turned to youtube and nothing came up so I decided to create my own bite sized documentary on the history of Cambridge and Oxford (Oxbridge). If I get positive feedback on this I might make some more.
Sources (mostly from memory but also):
Alan B. Cobban, English University Life in the Middle Ages. Columbus:
Ohio State University Press, 1999.
Stephen Ferruolo, The Origins of the University: The Schools of Paris and
Their Critics, 1100–1215. Stanford: Stanford University Press, 1998.
http://www.gutenberg.org/files/20958/20958-h/20958-h.htm
http://lollardsociety.org/pdfs/Rashdall_Universities_vol2pt2.pdf
Approximate Script:
To understand the founding of Oxford and Cambridge we need to understand what a university was at the intersection of the early middle ages and the high middle ages.
In that period the concept of the university was very different from what it is today. Before universities arose individuals would either be tought at Monastic schools focused in rural monastaries or by wandering scholars. It is the second tradition that gave rise to the medivial university.

Is Wikipedia ruining everything? Here, Emory University Professor Mark Bauerlein draws on his experience teaching undergraduates to make conclusions about the changing face of education in the humanities. He notes the all encompassing digitization of students' lives and the accompanying change in their capacities and worldview. He blames the ease of use and ubiquity of sites like Wikipedia and Google for allowing students to complete assignments without actually learning the material.
Mark Bauerlein is a professor of English at Emory University, where he has taught since 1989, apart from a term as Director of the Office of Research and Analysis at the National Endowment for the Arts (2003-05). He received his doctorate from UCLA in 1988. His books include Literary Criticism: An Autopsy (University of Pennsylvania Press, 1997), Negrophobia: A Race Riot in Atlanta, 1906 (Encounter Books, 2001), and The Dumbest Generation: How the Digital Age Stupefies Young Americans and Jeopardizes Our Future (Tarcher, 2008). His scholarly articles have appeared in PMLA, Partisan Review, Yale Review, and Philosophy and Literature, while his commentaries and reviews have appeared in The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The Weekly Standard, TLS, Boston Globe, Commentary, The Chronicle of Higher Education, and elsewhere. He is currently working on a study of research and publication in literary studies.

These artists explore the creative process and consider their individual and collaborative experiences with imagination, inspiration, observation, experimentation, problem solving and decision making. The speakers consider the interplay between innate talent and learned skill, as well as definition of art.
Community Conversations is an academic program that is one of the Living Learning Initiatives of University Housing in partnership with the Clark Honors College, the Oregon Humanities Center, and Undergraduate Studies. The goal of Community Conversations is to stimulate intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, contrarian debate, and articulate discourse among the 3,300+ residential students at the University of Oregon.
