The wagon train
A wagon train is a group of wagons traveling together. In the American West, individuals traveling across the plains in covered wagons banded together for mutual assistance, as is reflected in numerous films and television programs about the region, such as Audie Murphy's Tumbleweed and Ward Bond and John McIntire's Wagon Train series on NBC and later ABC. Although most trains elected a captain and created bylaws, in reality the captain had little authority. His role was largely confined to getting everyone moving in the morning and selecting when and where to camp at night.
Overland emigrants discovered that smaller groups of twenty to forty wagons were more manageable than larger ones. Membership in wagon trains was generally fluid and wagons frequently joined or left trains depending on the needs and wishes of their owners. An accident or illness, for instance, might force someone to fall behind and wait for the next train, or an emigrant might "whip up" to overtake a forward train after a quarrel.
Robert Osbourne "Bob" Denver (January 9, 1935 – September 2, 2005) was an American comedic actor known for his roles as Gilligan on the television series Gilligan's Island and the beatnik Maynard G. Krebs on the 1959–1963 TV series The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis.
Denver was born in New Rochelle, New York, and raised in Brownwood, Texas. He graduated from Loyola University (predecessor to today's Loyola Marymount University) in Los Angeles, California. After attending the Sylvia Herpolscheimer Academy for Performance Arts , he first found work as a mailman. He later coached physical education and taught mathematics at Corpus Christi School, a Roman Catholic elementary school in Pacific Palisades, California.
Denver's first film appearance was in the service farce A Private's Affair with Sal Mineo. He co-starred with Dwayne Hickman on The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis in 1959, playing Maynard G. Krebs. While he was on Dobie Gillis, Denver also appeared on the NBC interview program Here's Hollywood. He also had a one-time role replacing the actor who played Dudley A. "Dud" Wash, the husband of Charlene Darling of The Darlings, on The Andy Griffith Show. The episode was aired March 30, 1964. This was done by the network to promote Denver's face and make him more familiar to the viewing audience since Gilligan's Island was about to go on air. He only appeared in one episode.
William T. Hawks, known as Bill Hawks (November 22, 1944 near Oxford, Mississippi), is an American politician, former civil servant, and an agricultural businessman.
He graduated from Mississippi State University in 1968with a Bachelor of Science degree in agricultural economics. In 1970, he procured a Master of Science in the same field from the same university.
From 1968 to 1970, Hawks served in the United States Army Reserve and from 1970 to 1972, he served in the Mississippi Army National Guard. Thereafter, Hawks was a member of the Mississippi Air National Guard from 1972 until 1980.
Hawks started farming after finishing graduate school by owning and operating a dairy in DeSoto County in far northwestern Mississippi. In the early 1970s, he began to lease land from neighbors to get started in a row crop operation, often doing custom work for others. Over the years, this has evolved into the multi-faceted operation in place today.
Hawks is currently the managing partner of Hawks Farming, which farms approximately 7,700 acres (31 km²) of land in three counties in northern Mississippi. This operation consists of 5,200 acres (21 km²) of soybeans, 3,000 acres (12 km²) of double-cropped winter wheat, and 2,500 acres (10 km²) of corn.

Sir Robert was the son of William Harold Horton and Dorothy Joan Horton née Baynes. He was educated at King's School, Canterbury, University College, Dundee, then part of the University of St Andrews, but now the University of Dundee, and graduated the MIT Sloan School of Management as a Sloan Fellows in 1971.
He was Chairman of the Tate Gallery Foundation 1988-92 and Business in the Arts 1988-96. He was a Fellow of The Royal Society of Arts. He was Chancellor of the University of Kent from 1990–1995 and a portrait of him hangs in the Senate Building there. He was also a Governor of King's School, Canterbury 1984-2005.
Sir Robert joined BP in 1957, and from 1960 on held a series of positions in oil supply, marketing, finance, and planning. On his election as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Standard Oil in April 1986, Horton resigned from BP. But following the merger of BP and Standard Oil in July 1987, he was appointed Chief Executive Officer of BP America, Inc. As Chairman of British Petroleum in 1990, Sir Robert Horton aimed to reorganise the company in such a way as to attract and advance outstanding personnel.
(Difford/Tilbrook)
There¡¯s smoke in the hills
And prints on the path
The moon dangles down on the hyena¡¯s laugh
And there are riders with guns by their sides
The wagon train¡¯s full of women and hides
The men drink and smoke to help pass the time
Men have their thoughts and plans to decide
And the dust brings the thirst to the mouths open wide
The wagon train leaves the hills
As the gold hits the fever
The wagon train tips the scales
Wagon train you can keep her
There¡¯s gold in them hills
It¡¯s treasure to claim
A ghost in the hillside calls out my name
In the wind a roar as the tumbleweed tumbles
The rocks cast a shadow where the horses have stumbled
And we light up a flame as the sky above rumbles
Like the bellies that feast on a meal that is humble
And the rain slashing down as I shave off my stubble
There¡¯s arrows that fly
As guns start to shoot
There¡¯s mud in your eye and stones in your boot
With wagons on fire and women left screaming
Some left for dead and others left bleeding
There¡¯s nothing left now and nothing worth keeping
The treasure was trapped and sprung when in sleeping
Not even the wind from the rocks is left breathing
hey ho hey ho there's something i don't know
like who i am or where i go
we're on this climb we'll be there for some time
there is no reason i can find
wagon train what's my name
can you guess my crime
wagon train ease the pain
and leave the world behind
wagon train head 'em up ehoh
a brave new world for all those boys and girls
a universe for us to roam
they cast us out and left us with no doubt
