Explore Shigatse, Second Largest City of Tibet: Explore Tibetan Buddhism, See What I've Experienced
Tashi Delek!
Today, I’m in Shigatse, the second largest city of Tibet, and I will show you the most iconic monastery: Tashilhunpo monastery.
Sitting on the southern slope of Nyiseri Mountain in the west of Shigatse City, Tashilhunpo Monastery, built in 1447 by Gedun Drupa, the first Dalai Lama, is the largest monastery in Tsang Area as well as the traditional seat of successive Panchen Lamas, Tibet's second highest incarnation.
Meanwhile, it is also one of the Great Six Gelugpa Monasteries of Tibetan Buddhism (another five are Drepung Monastery, Sera Monastery, Ganden Monastery, Kumbum Monastery, and Labrang Monastery).
Today, I will bring you to explore the Tibetan Buddhism, appreciate religious art, and experience what I see and do in this vlog.

Sky Train - Lhasa to Shigatse
In 2006, China built a railway to connect the highland region of Tibet with the rest of the country. In 2014, it built a 250-km rail link between Lhasa and Shigatse (Xigaze) or Rikaze.
Nepalese people hopes that it will connect with Kathmandu, the Nepalese capital, as part of the China-Nepal international trans himalayan railway. But question is when and how?

Shi Ga Tse (Tibet) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Shi Ga Tse in Tibet.
With its population of forty five thousand, the city of Shigatse is not only Tibet’s second largest city and administrative centre for the south of the country, it also boasts one of the most beautiful monastery districts in the Himalayas. The Tashilunpo Monastery, the ‘Mountain Of Blessing’, is situated at the western end of the city that lies at an altitude of three thousand nine hundred metres above sea level and is closely associated with the second most important spiritual heads of Tibet, the Panchen Lamas. The sight of the faithful who walk with their prayer mills around the monastery complex is quite an experience for most Westerners who come here and despite the severe political climate of the recent past the significance of Tashil...

Shigatse Tibet

Finding the Next Cristiano Ronaldo in Shigatse, Tibet!
In today's video we go to Shigatse, the second largest city in Tibet (behind Lhasa). Shigatse is located 280km (170 miles) southwest of Lhasa and it is home to the famous Tashi Lhunpo monastery which is where we visit first in this video.
Tashi Lhunpo Monastery has been the traditional seat of the Panchen Lama, who is regarded as the second most significant Lama behind the Dalai Lama. It was a very cool monastery and we all enjoyed walking around and seeing the sights. The monks there were also extremely friendly and welcoming. We were particularly impressed when we saw the gigantic statue of the Maitreya Buddha and it stands at 26.2 metres in height.
Following this, we went to the local market and tried our hand at some bartering. We laid our eyes upon the tantalising souvenirs and we...

SHIGATSE
Shigatse, home of Panchen Lama, the second spiritual authority of Tibet. 4-5 hours by bus from Lhasa. We spent there less than 24hrs on our way to Everest Base Camp and back, only a few hours to walk around... I would have spent more time in this city, the only one we visited except Lhasa, more friendly than the capital and less contaminated... Dedicated to all the people we met during those hours...

Tibetan breakfast - There’s nothing better to eat for breakfast in Tibet than tsampa - roasted barley flour, mixed with yak cheese, yak butter, and sugar, and formed into small hand-squeezed balls. It grows like a loaf of bread in your stomach - it’s so hearty and filling. The best part of the experience was eating it in a local home and watching them as they made it for breakfast, the common way they do everyday for breakfast. The butter tea was excellent.
Tibetan food lunch - We went to a local family restaurant for lunch we we tried a number of Tibetan, and specifically Shigatse foods, including dumpling in soup, a fried bread stuffed with yak, fried sheep lungs, and Tibetan blood sausage. It was a heavy and meaty lunch, and the food was delicious.
Tashilhunpo Monastery - As the palace of the Panchen Lama (second most important spiritual figure in Tibetan Buddhism), the Tashilhunpo Monastery is one of the most sacred and important sites in Shigatse. After walking around the temple complex in the morning, we then went into the temple complex in the afternoon.
It was a great day of food, exploring, and learning in Shigatse, Tibet.

We laid our eyes upon the tantalising souvenirs and we each came away with some small things to remember our brief stay in the city. The main thing that I will remember however, is the young baller we met on the streets. He showed us some skills that wouldn't look out of place in a Joga Bonito advert and then he proceeded to produce a finishing clinic that Cristiano Ronaldo himself would be proud of. I simply had no chance saving any of his shots...
Later on in the evening we realised it was Chinese New Year. Out of nowhere fireworks began exploding at they didn't stop all evening. We then went to sleep in anticipation for the drive to Mount Everest base camp the next day!
