Con Dao is an archipelago of islands situated in the South East Sea. The French used the main island to keep anti-colonial prisoners and the South Vietnamese continued the practice, sending political dissenters to the 11 prisons during the American War.
The main island, Con Son, is home to a coastline of steep, rocky hills and long sweeping coves, boasting some excellent spots for swimming and snorkelling. From Tet holiday to summer -- March to at the end of September is the best time to travel to Con Dao. Although it is a rainy season here, it does not last over 1 hour. After that, Con Dao still has warm sunshine. This period is a great time for you to take a tour around beaches, snorkeling, scuba diving and swimming. Moreover, this time is a reproductive time of sea turtle.
From October to February: Because influenced by Northeast wind, Con Son gulf has some big waves but in the West and Southwest beaches still peaceful. You can visit Dam Trau beach, Suoi Nong beach, take a boat to Tre Lon island, Tre Nho island which have many kind of coral and colorful fishes.
