William Michael Albert Broad (born 30 November 1955), better known by his stage name Billy Idol, is an English rock musician. A member of the Bromley Contingent of Sex Pistols fans, Idol first achieved fame in the punk rock era as a member of the band Generation X. He then embarked on a successful solo career, aided by a series of stylish[citation needed]music videos, making him one of the first MTV stars. Idol continues to tour with guitarist Steve Stevens and has a worldwide fan base.[citation needed]
Idol was born in Stanmore, Middlesex, the son of a salesman.. The name Billy Idol was inspired by a schoolteacher's description of Broad as "idle".
In 1958, when Idol was two years old, his parents moved to Patchogue, New York, on Long Island. The family returned to England four years later with Idol and a younger child Jane (who had been born in the US), settling in Dorking, Surrey. In 1971 the family moved to Bromley, southeastern London, where Idol attended Ravensbourne School for Boys. Idol (rather William Broad) also attended Worthing High School for Boys (later becoming Worthing College), in West Sussex. In October 1975, Idol went to the University of Sussex, near Brighton, to pursue an English degree and lived on campus (East Slope) but left after year one (1976). He then went on to join the Bromley Contingent of Sex Pistols fans, a loose gang that travelled into town when the band played.
He was a light star
Tripping on a high wire
Bulldog stubborn, born uneven
A classless creature, a man for all seasons
But don't bet them
They can't take him
To the very bottom
Because they made him and they'll waste him
And I don't believe that I want to watch them
'Cause the fifties shifted out of gear
He was an idol then, now he's an idol here
But his face has changed, he's not the same no more
And I have to say that I like the way his music sounded before
He was tight-assed
Walking on broken glass
Highly prized in the wallet size
The number one crush in a schoolgirl's eyes
But don't pretend that it won't end
In the depth of your despair
You went from lame suits right down to tennis shoes
Fallen Idol
Old man. Scorned
Distrust. Blackmail
Painful Growth
Chorus:
I belong to you
I was torn from
Your Flesh
I become you
Now i see through
Your Eyes
Rebel angel
Serves no master
Looks back guilty
Fought and lost
(Chorus)
Fear not
Let go
Free your soul
Just like you
You'll live on
In the life of the son
My female messiah,
So glad that you came.
Your presence has touched me,
My religion has changed.
I’m walking on water,
You strengthen my faith
Feels like I feel you
In each drop of rain, rain, rain
Just like a perfect work of art,
Picasso on display,
Girl you are my inspiration
You’re my idol,
On the bible
Girl I must confess,
Your love is the best.
You’re my idol, And only I know,
How to worship you girl
I’ll never leave
I’ll never leave
That’s where I will be
That’s where I will be
Your love’s like a temple,
So sacred and precious,
You have my heart,
And that’s my confession
I found the truth and I found it in you.
Everything you teach me I’ll use
You’re like a perfect work of art,
Picasso on display,
Girl you are my inspiration
You’re my idol,
On the bible
Girl I must confess,
Your love is the best.
You’re my idol, And only I know,
How to worship you girl
I just can’t figure out what to say
You’re my idol,
On the bible
Girl I must confess,
Your love is the best.
You’re my idol,
And only I know,
How to worship you girl
I’ll never leave
I’ll never leave
That’s where I will be
That’s where I will be
In the vision I saw you
I couldn’t even breathe
In all of the universe
Tell me how long it’ll really be
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKES UUUUUUUSSSSSSSS?!
You’re my idol,
On the bible
Girl I must confess,
Your love is the best.
You’re my idol, And only I know,
How to worship you girl
I’ll never leave
You’re my idol,
On the bible
Girl I must confess,
Your love is the best.
You’re my idol, And only I know,
How to worship you girl
I’ll never leave
I’ll never leave
That’s where I will be
I can see it, I can feel it rushing in my veins
I don't like it, I don't hide it, see it in my face
But I don't want to wait for I have lost my faith
Why can't I find myself an idol?
Somebody that I can look up to
Be big enough to hold me close in their arms
And never let me down
And all these stupid conversations
That always seem to lead to nowhere
They're going 'round and 'round, 'round in my head
And they'll be back again, they're coming back again
It's not fair how, I still care now, we're always alone
Honesty and modesty will never find my home
But I will never say when I have lost my way
Why can't I find myself an idol?
Somebody that I can look up to
Be big enough to hold me close in their arms
And never let me down
And all these stupid conversations
That always seem to lead to nowhere
They're going 'round and 'round, 'round in my head
And they'll be back again, they're coming back again
You take it, take it, take it, take it, take it
You take it, you take it and throw it away
You take it, you take it and throw it away
Away, away, away
But I will never say
When I have lost my way
Why can't I find myself an idol?
Somebody that I can look up to
Be big enough to hold me close in their arms
And never let me down
And all these stupid conversations
That always seem to lead to nowhere
They're going 'round and 'round, 'round in my head
And they'll be back again, they're coming back again
You take it, you take it and throw it away
You take it, you take it, they're coming back again
You take it, you take it and throw it away, away, away
And throw it away
Idol role, no self-control
A parasite to one's constructed modeling
Surrounding pedestals
Chin held high to stimuli
Where's the other you
The independent one you never show?
Your individuality: polluted idealistic fashion
Collectivize your way of life,
Becoming every different passion
Creating idols for yourself is now your only ration
Swallow society
But don't forget to take a grain of salt
And even if you disagree
A disastrous outcome will never be your fault
Did you ever stop to think your idols have some idols of their own?
They preach to you, you know they're right
They may be wrong, but yet in spite of their doubt,
They will preach you out just like their former idols did
Idol, ideal illusion
Let the sable blood of the idol show
the false and strong evidence
Passion reigned a thousand years,
the cries of rejoice and lost innocence
All refrain join in the pain ahead
Can't relax or find the flax you said
You'll see - You'll see
Show me truth and desecrate it, hold be back,
temptation burning
Strength and your dexterity,
the deftly slip of painful learning
Covered nail and hypnotic baleful
I never had my pale skin
Tighter hold her throw her away
All but wisely chosen stay
Let the congealed blood of the idol sizzle
through and corrode this bridle
Holds me in and blinds my eyes,
but I live to serve, to be despised
All turn in and join chagrin ahead
Can't behold the words of old they said
