How Raj, Asha, Mala and Sanjay (Sanjeev Kumar) resolve the knotty issue of unrequited love while the law is chasing Raj is the story skilfully narrated in the film through a series of flashbacks. Can Raj take a hostage and escape the police dragnet? Will Asha find the courage to help Raj? How will Sanjay reconcile his duty as a police officer with his love for his family.
