Orvon Grover Autry (September 29, 1907 – October 2, 1998), better known as Gene Autry, was an American performer who gained fame as a singing cowboy on the radio, in movies, and on television for more than three decades beginning in the early 1930s. Autry was also owner of a television station, several radio stations in Southern California, and the Los Angeles/California Angels Major League Baseball team from 1961 to 1997.
From 1934 to 1959, Autry appeared in 94 films and 91 episodes of The Gene Autry Show television series. During the 1930s and 1940s, he personified the straight-shooting hero—honest, brave, and true—and profoundly touched the lives of millions of Americans. Autry was also one of the most important figures in the history of country music, considered the second major influential artist of the genre's development after Jimmy Rogers. His singing cowboy movies were the first vehicle to carry country music to a national audience. In addition to his signature song, "Back in the Saddle Again", Autry is still remembered for his Christmas holiday songs, "Here Comes Santa Claus", which he wrote, "Frosty the Snowman", and his biggest hit, "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer".
You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen,
Comet and Cupid and Donder and Blitzen,
But do you recall
The most famous reindeer of all?
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
Had a very shiny nose,
And if you ever saw it,
You would even say it glows.
All of the other reindeer
Used to laugh and call him names;
They never let poor Rudolph
Join in any reindeer games.
Then one foggy Christmas Eve,
Santa came to say:
"Rudolph, with your nose so bright,
Won't you guide my sleigh tonight?"
Then how the reindeer loved him,
As they shouted out with glee,
"Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,
You'll go down in history!"
See them tumbling down
Pledging their love to the ground
Lonely but free I'll be found
Drifting along with the tumbling tumbleweeds.
Cares of the past are behind
No where to go, but I'll find
Just where the trail will wind
Drifting along with the tumbling tumbleweeds.
I know when night has gone
That a new world's born at dawn
I'll keep rolling along
Deep in my heart is a song
Here on the range I belong
Drifting along with the tumbling tumbleweeds.
I know when night has gone
That a new world's born at dawn
I'll keep rolling along
Deep in my heart is a song
Here on the range I belong
The news is out and I've been told it came by wire from the great North Pole,
I'm sure each boy and girly heard,
Santa's coming in a whirlybird.
(Chorus)
Santa's coming in a whirlybird,
Christmas night in a whirlybird...
So if you're good and you don't goof,
The whirlybird is gonna land on your roof.
There's gonna be a bike for Mike and Moe,
A talking doll for Jane and Joe,
They'll be toys for every child,
if you promise not to drive your mom and daddy wild (to chorus)
There is one more verse that I am unsure of... Please add if you know!
partial:
but Donner and were amazed when Rudolph said with a happy shout,
I had a gal in the mountains
She told me that she would be true
But she messed around with another man
Just what she shouldn't do Now that's why I left the mountains That's why I went to roam That's why I ain't never goin' back Back to my mountain home She told me that she'd meet me
One night at half past eight
And I sood there for a long long time
But my gal was two days late I said: we'd get married
I told her a time and again
But I can't stand that kind of a gal
That suits with other men I lie good for a nickel
And I drink all that I can
But my gal said she would never wed
I'm sad, I got the blues,
Can't shake the sands of Texas from my shoes.
I sigh, and don't know why,
I guess I got those dear old Texas blues.
The smell of the rain, the roll of the plain,
The feel of my seat in the saddle.
I'd give all I own if I could be home,
Back on the range punchin' cattle.
I guess I got the blues,
You Know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen,
Comet, cupid, and Donner and Blitzen.
but do you recall? The most famous reindeer of all?
Rudolph the red nose reindeer
(reindeer)
had a very shiny nose
(like a lightbulb)
and if you ever saw it
(saw it)
you would even say it glows
(like a flashlight)
all of the other reindeer
(reindeer)
used to laugh and call him names
(like pinochio)
they never let poor Rudolph join in any reindeer games
(like monopoly)
then one foggy Christmas eve, Santa came to say
(in his underwear)
Rudolph with your nose so brigh,
wont you giude my sleigh tonight?
then all the reindeer loved him
and they shouted out with glee
YIPEE!!!
Rudolph the rednose reindeer,
you'll go down in history!!
I've got spurs that
Jingle, jangel, jingle
As I go riding merrily along.
And they sing, 'Oh, ain't you
Glad you're single? '
And that song ain't
So very far from wrong.
Oh, Lillie Belle! Oh, Lillie Belle
Though I may have done some fooling
This is why I never fell.
I got spurs that jingle, jangle, jingle
As I go riding merrily along.
And they sing, 'Oh, ain't you
Glad you're single? '
And that song ain't
So very far from wrong.
Oh, Lillie Belle! Oh, Lillie Belle
Though I may have done some fooling
This is why I never fell.
I got spurs that
Jingle, jangle, jingle
Here comes Peter Cottontail
Hoppin' down the bunny trail
Hippity hoppin', Easter's on its way
Bringin' every girl and boy
Baskets full of Easter joy
Things to make your Easter bright and gay
He's got jelly beans for Tommy
Colored eggs for sister Sue
There's an orchid for your mommy
And an Easter bonnet too
Oh! here comes Peter Cottontail
Hoppin' down the bunny trail
Hippity hoppity, happy Easter Day
Here comes Peter Cottontail
Hoppin' down the bunny trail
Hippity hoppin', Easter's on its way
Try to do the things you should
Maybe if you're extra good
He'll roll lots of Easter eggs your way
You'll wake up on Easter mornin'
And you'll know that he was there
When you find those chocolate bunnies
That he's hiding everywhere
Oh! here comes Peter Cottontail
Hoppin' down the bunny trail
Hippity hoppity, happy Easter Day
Jingle bells, jingle bells,
jingle all the way!
O what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh
Dashing through the snow
On a one-horse open sleigh,
Over the fields we go,
Laughing all the way;
Bells on bob-tail ring,
making spirits bright,
What fun it is to ride and sing
A sleighing song tonight
Jingle bells, jingle bells,
jingle all the way!
O what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh
Now the ground is white
Go it while you're young,
Take the girls tonight
And sing this sleighing song;
Just get a bob-tailed bay
two-forty as his speed
Hitch him to an open sleigh
And crack! you'll take the lead.
Oh, Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells,
Jingle all the way!
Oh what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh.
Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells,
Jingle all the way!
Oh what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh.
Oh what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh.
Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells,
Jingle all the way!
Oh what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh.
Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells,
Jingle all the way!
Oh what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh.
Oh what fun it is to ride
Ahl-dee-oh-lay-eee-hee
Ahl-dee-oh-lay-eee-hee-heee
Ahl-dee-oh-lay-hee-hee, oh-dah-lay-hee-hee
Oh-dah-lay-heee
Tramping down the highway, traveling day and night
I don't know where I'm going to, but I'll get there all right
I have no one to care for me, I have no place to go
Everybody knows I'm just a yodeling hobo
(Yodel)
I've been all around the country, been around most everywhere
But I love that dear ol' sunny South, I love that Texas air
Away out where the men are men, down in El Paso
That is where they call me a yodeling hobo
(Yodel)
All my life I've traveled, I'm Alabama bound
And now I'm always happy in the city or one horse town
I started out to roamin' 'cause I had no place to go
Now I've turned out to be a yodeling hobo
(Yodel)
Now you have heard my story, so I'll be on my way
I hear a Frisco freight train, and it's calling me
And when the sun sinks in the West, into that dark blue sky
Just say that I'm a hobo and will be till I die
We met by a stream one night in Mexico
The moment stood still under fiesta stars
I learned how to dream that night in Mexico
My heart felt a thrill under fiesta stars
The night spoke of splendour
The lanterns were low
I had to surrender
The thrill seemed to grow
The music was playing
We danced until dawn
My thoughts began straying
And then she was gone
Tonight there's a stream somewhere in Mexico
Where lanterns that glow blend with the soft guitars
I wish I could dream again of Mexico
And still feel the thrill under fiesta stars
Tonight there's a stream somewhere in Mexico
Where lanterns that glow blend with the soft guitars
I wish I could dream again in Mexico
Yippy yeah, there'll be no wedding bells for today
I've got spurs that jingle, jangel, jingle
As I go riding merrily along
And they sing, oh, ain't you glad you're single?
And that song ain't so very far from wrong
Oh, Lillie Belle, oh, Lillie Belle
Though I may have done some fooling
This is why I never fell
I've got spurs that jingle, jangel, jingle
As I go riding merrily along
And they sing, oh, ain't you glad you're single?
And that song ain't so very far from wrong
I've got spurs that jingle, jangel, jingle
As I go riding merrily along
And they sing, oh, ain't you glad you're single?
And that song ain't so very far from wrong
Oh, Sally Jane, oh, Sally Jane
Though I'd loved to stay forever
This is why I can't remain
I've got spurs that jingle, jangel, jingle
As I go riding merrily along
And they sing, oh, ain't you glad you're single?
And that song ain't so very far from wrong
I've got spurs that jingle, jangel, jingle
As I go riding merrily along
And they sing, oh, ain't you glad you're single?
And that song ain't so very far from wrong
Oh, Mary Ann, oh, Mary Ann
Though we've done some moonlight walking
This is why I up and ran
I've got spurs that jingle, jangel, jingle
As I go riding merrily along
And they sing, oh, ain't you glad you're single?
And that song ain't so very far from wrong
And that song ain't so very far from wrong
Here comes Santa Claus!
Here comes Santa Claus!
Right down Santa Claus Lane!
Vixen and Blitzen and all his reindeer
are pulling on the reins.
Bells are ringing, children singing;
All is merry and bright.
Hang your stockings and say your prayers,
'Cause Santa Claus comes tonight.
Here comes Santa Claus!
Here comes Santa Claus!
Right down Santa Claus Lane!
He's got a bag that is filled with toys
for the boys and girls again.
Hear those sleigh bells jingle jangle,
What a beautiful sight.
Jump in bed, cover up your head,
Buon Natale, means Merry Christmas to you
Buon Natale, to everyone
Happy New Year and lots of fun
Buon Natale may all your wishes come true
Buon Natale in Italy means
A Merry Christmas to you
Far away across the sea
In sunny Italy
There's a quaint little town
Not a clock has been wound
For over a century
They don't know the time or year
And no one seems to care
And this is the reason
The Christmas season
Is celebrated all year
Buon Natale, means Merry Christmas to you
Buon Natale, to everyone
Happy New Year and lots of fun
Buon Natale may all your wishes come true
Buon Natale in Italy means
South of the Border, down Mexico way
That's where I fell in love
When stars above came out to play
And now as I wander,
my thoughts ever stray
South of the border, down Mexico way.
She was a picture in old Spanish lace
Just for a tender while
I kissed the smile upon her face
For it was "Fiesta" and we were so gay
South of the border, down Mexico way.
Then she sighed as she whispered "Mañana"
Never dreaming that we were parting
And I lied as I whispered "Mañana"
For that tomorrow never came.
South of the border, I rode back one day
There in a veil of white
By candlelight she knelt to pray
The bells told me that I mustn't stay
South of the border, down Mexico way.
Ay-ay-ay-ay, (Ay-ay-ay-ay,) etc
Is the struggle and strife we find in this life
Really worth while, after all
I've been wishing today I could just run away
Out where the west winds call
With someone like you, a pal good and true
I'd like to leave it all behind and go and find
Some place that's known to god alone
Just a spot to call our own
We'll find perfect peace, where joys never cease
Out there beneath a kindly sky
We'll build a sweet little nest somewhere in the west
And let the rest of the world go by
Is the future to hold just struggles for gold
While the real world waits outside
Away out on the breast of the wonderful west
Across the great divide
With someone like you, a pal good and true
I'd like to leave it all behind and go and find
Some place that's known to god alone
Just a spot to call our own
We'll find perfect peace, where joys never cease
Out there beneath a kindly sky
We'll build a sweet little nest somewhere in the west
Way out west in Texas, it's where I long to be
Ridin' on the prairie with a good horse under me
For three long years I've bumed around, my heart is sad and blue
I'm goin' back to the wooly West where your friends are always true
[Yodel]
Well, way out west in Texas where the atmosphere is light
You roll up in your blanket on the prairie every night
Where the rattlesnakes and the old horned toads, they sleep right by your side
On the desert sands of Texas, it's where I long to ride.
[Yodel]
[Instrumental of Verse]
Well, way out west in Texas around that old camp fire
We sing the songs of long ago and strum on my guitar
My heart is ever yerning, but I will be there soon
I'll settle down in Texas when the cactus is in bloom
[Instrumental of Verse]
Well, a way out west in Texas, round up in the spring
You'll hear me sing this little song while ridin' on the range
Broadway lights (hue to you?) moon light suits me fine
I'll settle down in Texas, I'll leave my blues behind
Old faithful, we rode the range together
Old faithful in every kind of weather
When your round up days are over
There'll be pastures white with clover
For you old faithful pal of mine.
Hurry up old fellow,
‘Cause the moon is yellow tonight
Hurry up old fellow
‘Cause the moon is mellow and bright.
There's a coyote howlin' to the moon
above
So carry me back to the one I love
Hurry up old fellow
‘Cause we gotta get home tonight.
REPEAT
A long long time ago,
As all you folks should know
Ol' Santa started loading up his sleigh.
A smile on every face,
Each reindeer took his place,
To bring us joy on Christmas Day.
With one little, two little, three little reindeer,
Four little, five little, six little reindeer,
Seven little, eight little, yes eight little reindeer
Pulling Santa's sleigh.
There's Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comit, Cupid, Donder, Blitzen.
But there's one little reindeer missing Rudolf is his name.
For a long long time
He had hitched up nine
To make his Christmas ride
Now Rudolph's gone
He's so alone
Santa Claus sat down and cried
With one little, two little, three little reindeer,
Four little, five little, six little reindeer,
Seven little, eight little, yes eight little reindeer
Pulling Santa's sleigh.
It's been a year
Since we've been here
And how the time it goes
Where have you been
My little friend
Shining up my nose
With one little, two little, three little reindeer,
Four little, five little, six little reindeer,
Seven little, eight little, nine little reindeer
Pulling Santa's sleigh.
Peace on earth and goodwill to all,
You better watch out
You better not cry
Better not pout
I'm telling you why
Santa Claus is coming to town
He's making a list
And checking it twice;
Gonna find out Who's naughty and nice
Santa Claus is coming to town
He sees you when you're sleeping
He knows when you're awake
He knows if you've been bad or good
So be good for goodness sake!
O! You better watch out!
You better not cry
Better not pout
I'm telling you why
Santa Claus is coming to town
Have I told you lately
that I love you?
Have I told you there's no one above you?
Fill my heart with gladness, take away my sadness
Ease my troubles, that's what you do.
For the morning sun in all it's glory,
Meets the day with hope and comfort too,
And you fill my life with laughter, you can make it better,
Ease my troubles, that's what you do.
There's a love less defined,
And it's yours and it's mine,
'Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse
All the stockings were hung by the chimney with care
In the hope that Saint Nicholas soon would be there
Then what to my wondering eyes should appear
A miniature sleigh and eight tiny reindeer
A little old driver so lively and quick
I knew in a moment it must be Saint Nick
And more rapid than eagles, his reindeer all came
As he shouted on Dasher and each reindeer's name
And so up to the housetop the reindeer soon flew
With the sleigh full of toys and Saint Nicholas, too
Down the chimney he came with a leap and a bound
He was dressed all in fur and his belly was round
He spoke not a word but went straight to his work
And filled all the stocking then turned with a jerk
And laying his finger aside of his nose
Then giving a nod up the chimney he rose
But I heard him exclaim where he drove out of sight
"Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night"
But I heard him exclaim where he drove out of sight
Up on the house top reindeers paused
Out jumps good old Santa Claus
Down through the chimney with lots of toys
All part of a little ones with Christmas joys
Ho ho ho, who wouldn't go?
Ho ho ho, who wouldn't go?
Up on the house top
Click click click
Down through the chimney with good St. Nick
First come the stop in the middle bell
Hope dear Santa feeling well
Give her a doll that laughs and cries
One that will open and shut her eyes
Ho ho ho, who wouldn't go?
Ho ho ho, who wouldn't go?
Up on the house top
Click click click
Down through the chimney with good St. Nick
Look through the stop in the middle bell
Hope just sees what a glorious well
Here's a little hammer and lots of tacks
A whistle and a ball and wood
Ho ho ho, who wouldn't go?
Ho ho ho, who wouldn't go?
Up on the house top
Click click click
Down through the chimney with good St. Nick
Ho oh ho, who wouldn't go?
Ho ho ho, who wouldn't go?
Up on the house top
Click click click
Down through the chimney with good St. Nick
Chorus:
When it's springtime in the Rockies
I'll be coming back to you
Little sweetheart of the mountains
With your bonnie eyes of blue;
Once again I'll say I love you
While the birds sing all the day
When it's springtime in the Rockies
In the Rockies far away.
The twilight shadows deepen into night dear
The city lights are gleaming o'er the snow
I sit alone beside the cheery fireside
I'm dreaming dreams from out the long ago
I fancy it is springtime in the Rockies
The flowers with their colors are aflame
And though I long to be back in the Rockies
I'll wait until the springtime comes again.
Chorus:
When it's springtime in the Rockies
I'll be coming back to you
Little sweetheart of the mountains
With your bonnie eyes of blue;
Once again I'll say I love you
While the birds sing all the day
When it's springtime in the Rockies
And an old love still in my heart
I remember now that I'm older
What you told me the day we had to part
You promised with the new moon
You'd be coming back to me
Now many moons have passed
Since then I'm waiting patiently
And an old love still in my heart
And an old love still in my heart
I remember now that I'm older
What you told me the day we had to part
You promised with the new moon
You'd be coming back to me
Now many moons have passed
Since then I'm waiting patiently
Wildcat Kelly, lookin' mighty pale
Was standin' by the Sherriff's side
And when that Sherriff said, "I'm sending you to jail"
Wildcat raised his head and cried
Oh, give me land, lots of land under starry skies above
Don't fence me in
Let me ride through the wide open country that I love
Don't fence me in
Let me be by myself in the evenin' breeze
And listen to the murmur of the cottonwood trees
Send me off forever but I ask you please
Don't fence me in
Just turn me loose, let me straddle my old saddle
Underneath the western skies
On my cayuse, let me wander over yonder
Till I see the mountains rise
I want to ride to the ridge where the west commences
And gaze at the moon till I lose my senses
I can't look at hobbles and I can't stand fences
Don't fence me in
Wilcat Kelly, back in town again
Was standin' by his Sweetheart's side
And when his Sweetheart said, "Come on, let's settle down"
Wildcat raised his head and cried
Oh, give me land, lots of land under starry skies
Don't fence me in
Let me ride through the wide open country that I love
Don't fence me in
Let me be by myself in the evenin' breeze
And listen to the murmur of the cottonwood trees
Send me off forever but I ask you please
Don't fence me in
Just turn me loose, let me straddle my old saddle
Underneath the western skies
On my Cayuse, let me wander over yonder
Till I see the mountains rise
I want to ride to the ridge where the west commences
And gaze at the moon till I lose my senses
I can't look at hobbles and I can't stand fences
I don't mind to see you with another
>Now that
Down inside I know that you still love me
Oh my darling, Oh please don't live a lie
Why pretend that you don't care about me
When my name brings teardrops to your eyes
Why stay away you know that I'm here waiting
Oh my darling, Oh please don't live a lie
-MUSIC- (fiddle)
You tell me you don't care about me
But you never look me in the eye
Why forsake a love that's yours alone dear
Oh my darling, Oh please don't live a lie
-MUSIC- (steel guitar)
It's your pride that keeps us far apart dear
You will realize that by and by
When you do you'll always find me waiting
Goodbye little darlin',
we're parting
Parting don't always mean goodbye
Although we have to part
You're always in my heart
Goodbye, little darlin', goodbye
Goodbye, little darlin', I'll miss you
Miss you like I would miss the sky
I hate to see you go
I'm gonna miss you so
Goodbye, little darlin', goodbye
Goodbye, little darlin',
I love you until the day I die
Would you dream a dream of me
Wherever you may be
We were so happy when love lingered on
Back in our sweet used to be
But now it's all over and you were gone
Leaving a sad memory.
And there's tears on my pillow each morning
I cry when I dream about you
When I should be sleeping I just lay there weeping
Wondering if you're weeping too.
I'm trying so hard to forget you
But that's not so easy to do
With these tears on my pillow each morning
Tears that I've shed over you.
Tears on my pillow each morning
I cry when I dream about you
When I should be sleeping I just lay there weeping
Wondering if you're weeping too.
I'm trying so hard to forget you
But that's not so easy to do
With these tears on my pillow each morning
I'm a-headin' back to Dixie that's where I long to be
Where the cotton grows and the Swanee flows that's home sweet home to me
Where they meet you and they greet you with a great big how you all
Well shut my mouth, I'm a-headin' south on the Dixie Cannonball.
Chorus:
On the Dixie Cannonball, oh the Dixie Camnnonball
Just listen to the whistle, it'll thrill you one and all
And I know there's someone waitin' with a great big how you all
Well, shut my mouth I'm a-headin' south on the Dixie Cannonball.
(musical interlude)
Chorus:
On the Dixie Cannonball, oh the Dixie Camnnonball
Just listen to the whistle, it'll thrill you one and all
And I know there's someone waitin' with a great big how you all
Don't bother me with all your sweet talk
Baby, I've heard it all before
Don't say you're sorry and pretend you're my darling
'Cause I just don't believe you anymore
-CHORUS-
Don't hang around me anymore
Don't hang your hat up on my door
You've had your fun and now you say that you're sorry
But you can't hang around me anymore
-MUSIC- (piano and fiddle)
I saw you jiving in that juke joint
I saw you takin' in the town
You hung around 'til three o'clock in the morning
Don't expect me to let you hang around
-Music- (guitar)
I don't mind telling this whole wide world
Someone's doin' me wrong
I don't be able to catch on yet
But they gonna get catched for long
Now whoever this someone may be
Take a little tip from me Stay away from my chicken house, boys
If you figure your life's worthwhile
Stay away from my chicken house, boys
Or I cut you down Mexican style I got a long keen raiser
A bulldog too
You'll never look like nothing
When I get through with you
Now you're not invisible as still as a mouse
So stay away from my chicken house, I mean it
So stay away from my chicken house! (Yodelahee) You stole my horse, you stole my cow
You took hay from my barn
You killed my hogs for meat last fall
You even stole my corn
Now for all of this, boys
I won't complain
But I'm sticking with them chicken
(J. Lange, H. Heath & F. Glickman)
Mule train!, (Haw!), mule train! (*)
Clipity-clopin' over hill and plain
Seems as how they never stop
Clipity-clop, clipity-clop
Clipity-clipity, clipity-clipity
Clipity-clopin along.
There's a plug of chawin' tabaccer
For a rancher in Corona
A guitar for a cowboy
Way out in Arizona
A dress of Calico
For a pretty Navajo
Git along mule, git along.
Mule train!, (Haw!), mule train! (*)
Clipity-clopin' along the mountain range
Soon they're gonna reach the top
Clipity-clop, clipity-clop
Clipity-clipity, clipity-clipity
Clipity-clopin' along.
There's some cotton, thread and needles
For the folks a-way out yonder
A shovel for a miner
Who left his home to wander
Some rhumatism pills
For the settlers in the hills
Git along mule, git along.
Mule train!, (Haw!), mule train! (*)
Clipity-clopin' thru the wind and the rain
They'll be goin' till they drop
Clipity-clop, clipity-clop
Clipity-clipity, clipity-clipity
Clipity-clopin' along.
There's a letter full of sadness
It's black around the border
A pair of boots for someone
Who had 'em made to order
A bible in the pack
For the Reverend Mr. Black
Git along mule, git along...
Take me back to my boots and saddle
Wooh-ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ah-ooh
Let me see that gen'ral store
Let me ride that range once more
Gimme my boots and saddle
Let me ramble along the prairie
Wooh-ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ah-ooh
Ropin' steers on old Bar-X
With my buddies, Slim and Tex
Oh, gimme my boots and saddle
Got a hankerin' to be with a banjo on my knee
Strummin' a pretty western tune
There's a gal in Cherokee
And she's waitin' there for me
Waitin' 'neath a Texas moon
Take me back to my boots and saddle
Wooh-ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh, ah-oooh
Let me greet each blazin' morn
On the ranch where I was born
Oh, gimme my boots and saddle
Like minutes are to an hour
Darling, so you are to me...
Maria Elena, you're the answer to a prayer
Maria Elena, can't you see how much I care?
To me your voice is like the echo of a sigh
And when you're near my heart can't speak above a sigh
Maria Elena, say that we will never part
Maria Elena, take me to your heart
A love like mine is great enough for two
To share this love is really all I ask of you
Maria Elena, say that we will never part
Maria Elena, take me to your heart
A love like mine is great enough for two
Amapola
My pretty little poppy
You're like that lovely flower only so sweet and heavenly
Since I found you
My heart is wrapped around you
And loving you it seems to beat a rhapsody
Amapola
The pretty little poppy
Must copy its endearing charm from you Amapola, Amapola
You belong to my heart
Now and forever
And our love had its start
Not long ago
We were gathering stars while a million guitars played our love song
When I said "I love you", every beat of my heart said it, too
'twas a moment like this
Do you remember?
And your eyes threw a kiss
When they met mine
Now we own all the stars and a million guitars are still playing
It happened in Monterey, a long time ago
I met her in Monterey, in old Mexico
Stars and steel guitars and luscious lips, as red as wine
Broke somebody's heart and I'm afraid, that it was mine
It happened in Monterey, and without thinking twice
I left her and through away the key to paradise
My indiscreet heart, longs for the sweetheart
I don't think any Christmas album would be complete without telling, in song, the most beautiful and inspiring story ever told, the story of Christmas.
O little town of Bethlehem
How still we see thee lie
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
The silent stars go by
Yet in thy dark streets shineth
The everlasting Light
The hopes and fears of all the years
Are met in thee tonight
In all these years that I bummed around
Why just today I really found
That certain girl that boys go wild about
She tore my heart right out
Now she's long and tall and got a funny name
But I love that gal just the same Now Slu-Foot Lou is 9-4-2And slim as a doggone rail
Folks go wild about that child
In fact there's four in jail Now she don't wear powder nor paint
But she got that certain something that the other girls ain't
Well, the 2-4-9 or 9-4-2You'll never get lonely with Slu-Foot Lou Now Slu-Foot Lou is 9-4-2, and her heart is made of gold
She's got oil down in Oklahoma, and some that's gonna be so
Now she promissed me a brand new bus
If I don't did love her then i loved her bus... Well, the 2-4-9 or 9-4-2I'll never get an inch away from Slu-Foot Lou Now Slu-Foot Lou is 9-4-2And slim as a doggone rail
Folks go wild about that child
In fact there's four in jail Now she don't wear pouder nor paint
Buit she got that certain something that the other girls ain't
(yodelahee...) Left my gal in the mountains
Left her standing in the rain
Went down to the railroad
Caught myself a midnight train Lead my way to Georgia
Landed in a gambling town
Got myself into trouble
And shot a county sheriff down The jury read the verdict
Murder in the first degree
The judge said: take this prisoner
To the penitentiary They put the handcuffs on me
Put me on a prison train
Took me to A'lanta
And tied me with the ball and chain (yodelahee...) Left my gal in the mountains
Left her waitin' all alone
Last night I dreamed I got a letter
Saying: honey, won't you come home? She said, she was sad and lonely
Told me that her love was true
Then I dreamed I wrote a letter
Sayin': honey, I'm coming back to you Then I woke up this morning
Lyin' in Atlanta jail
No one here to love me
No one to go my bail That prison was all around me
I got walkin' by the door
My sweetheart is sad and lonely
Allá en el rancho grande,
allá donde vivía,
había una rancherita,
que alegre me decía;
que alegre me decía:
Te voy a hacer tus,
como los que usa el ranchero,
te los comienzo de lana,
te los acabo de cuero.
I'd love to roam out yonder,
Out where the buffalo wander...
(Yee hee hee)
Free as the eagle flyin,
I'm ropin' and a-tyin',
I'm ropin' and a tyin'...
Yippee my ranch and my cattle,
Far from the great city's rattle,
You'll be a big herd to battle,
Would be better for us had
we never
In this wide, Wicked world
ever met
For the pleasures w&ve; both
seen together
I am sure love I'll never
forget.
Oh, I'm thinking tonight of
my blue eyes
Who is sailing far over the
Oh, I'm thinking tonight of
my blue eyes
And I wonder if she ever
thinks of me?
Oh you told me one time that
you loved me
Oh I'm thinking tonight of
my blue eyes
Who is waiting far over the
Oh I'm thinking tonight of
her only
And I wonder if she ever
Frosty the Snowman
Was a jolly happy soul
With a corncob pipe and a button nose
And his eyes made out of coal.
Frosty the Snowman
May the children laugh and play
And were they surprised when before their eyes
He came to life that day.
There must have been some magic
In that old silk hat they found
For when they placed it on his head
He began to dance around.
Oh, Frosty the Snowman
Was alive as he could be
And the children say
He could laugh and play
Just the same as you and me.
Frosty the Snowman
Knew the sun was hot that day
So he said let's run
And we'll have fun.
Before I melt away.
So down to the village
With a broomstick in his hand
Running here and there all around the square
Saying catch me if you can.
He led them down the streets of town
Right to the traffic cops
And he only paused a moment when
He heard him holler stop.
Frosty the Snowman
Had to hurry on
But he waved goodbye
Saying don't you cry.
I'll be back again some day
Thumpety, thump, thump
Thumpety, thump, thump.
Look at Frosty go
Thumpety, thump, thump
Thumpety, thump. thump
When I come home in the evening
I get my love somehow
No one to call her darling
No one to say good night
When I have plenty of money
The girls all gathered around me
But now I have no money
They've all gone back on me
I went to see my darling
She was so dear and clear
And so I said someday Ill be leaving
And I'll see her in my dreams
I asked my darling to marry
She looked at me and smiled
And said to me: “My sweetheart
Let's wait a little while”
If I had listened to mother
I wouldn't be here today
For I was young and foolish
I wish I had never met Sunshine
and Sunshine had never met me
For Twenty-one years I'll regret it
'cause I'm in the Jailhouse you see
Now Sunshine said she loved me
and honest and true she would be
I wish I had never met Sunshine
and Sunshine had never met me
I wish I had never met Sunshine
and Sunshine had never met me
One day I bought her a diamond
and clothes that were fancy to see
Before I had made the first payment
My Sunshine had run out on me
I wish I had never met Sunshine
and Sunshine had never met me
-MUSIC- (piano and horn)
I wish I had never met Sunshine
and Sunshine had never met me
She borrowed my car and my money
for a trip to the city to see
Now I'm doing time in the Jailhouse
While Sunshine is still fancy free
I wish I had never met Sunshine
There's a yellow rose in Texas that I am going to see,
No other darkey knows her, no darkey only me;
She cried so when I left her, it like to broke my heart,
And if I ever find her we never more will part.
(Chorus)
She's the sweetest rose of color this darkey ever knew,
Her eyes are bright as diamonds, they sparkle like the
dew,
You may talk about your Dearest May, and sing of Rosa
Lee,
But the yellow rose of Texas beats the belles of
Tennessee.
Where the Rio Grande is flowing, and the starry skies are
bright,
She walks along the river in the quiet summer night;
She thinks if I remember, when we parted long ago,
I promis'd to come back again, and not to leave her so.
(Chorus)
Oh! now I'm going to find her, for my heart is full of
woe,
And we'll sing the song together, that we sung so long
ago;
We'll play the banjo gaily, and we'll sing the songs of
yore,
And the yellow rose of Texas shall be mine for evermore.
I found my thrill on blueberry hill
On blueberry hill when I found you
The moon stood still on blueberry hill
And lingered until my dreams came true
The wind in the willow played
sweet melody
But all of those vows we made
Were never to be
Tho' we're apart, you're part of me still
For you were my thrill on blueberry hill
The wind in the willow played
Love's sweet melody
But all of those vows we made
Were never to be
Tho' we're apart, you're part of me still
I'm heading for the last roundup
Gonna saddle old Paint for the last time and ride
So long, old pal, it's time your tears were dried
I'm heading for the last roundup.
CHORUS:
Git along little doggie, git along, git along
Git along little doggie, git along, git along
Git along little doggie, git along, git along
Git along little doggie, git along, git along
I'm heading for the last roundup
To the far away ranch of the Boss in the sky
Where the strays are counted and branded there go I
I'm heading for the last roundup
(CHORUS)
I'm heading for the last roundup
There'll be Buffalo Bill with his long snow-white hair
There'll be old Kit Carson and Custer waiting there
A-riding in the last roundup
(CHORUS)
Be honest with me dear whatever you do
Remember you're mine dear
so always be true
Where ever you wander
on land or on sea
If you really love me
be honest with me
My poor heart would break dear if you were untrue
Asleep or awake dear
I dream about you
Oh you are my darling
you're all that I see
If you really love me
be honest with me
Some day I'll return dear
and make you my own
And how I will yearn dear when I'm all alone
But I'll never forget dear your sweet memory
If you really love me
In a vine covered shack in the mountains
Bravely fighting the battle of time
There's a dear one who's weathered life's sorrows
It's that silver haired daddy of mine.
If I could recall all the heartaches
Dear old daddy, Ive caused you to bear
If I could erase those lines from your face
And bring back the gold top your hair.
If God would but grant me the power
Just to turn back the pages of time
I'd give all I own if I could but atone
To that silver haired daddy of mine.
I know it's to late, dear old daddy
To repay for the sorrows and cares
Tho' dear mother is waiting in Heaven
East is east and west is west
And the wrong one I have chose
Let's go where I'll keep on wearin'
Those frills and flowers and buttons and bows
Rings and things and buttons and bows
Don't bury me in this prairie
Take me where the cement grows
Let's move down to some big town
Where they love a gal by the cut o' her clothes
And I'll stand out in buttons and bows
I'll love you in buckskin
Or skirts that I've homespun
But I'll love ya' longer, stronger where
Yer friends don't tote a gun
My bones denounce the buckboard bounce
And the cactus hurts my toes
Let's vamoose where gals keep usin'
Those silks and satins and linen that shows
And I'm all yours in buttons and bows
Let's go where I'll keep on wearin'
Those frills, flowers, buttons and bows
Rings, things, buttons and bows
Let's move down to some big town
Where they love a gal by the cut o' her clothes
And I'll stand out in buttons and bows
I'll love you in buckskin
Or skirts that I've homespun
But I'll love ya' longer, stronger where
Yer friends don't tote a gun
My bones denounce the buckboard bounce
And the cactus hurts my toes
Let's vamoose where gals keep usin'
Those silks and satins and linen that shows
And I'm all yours in buttons and bows
Gimme eastern trimmin' where women are women
With French perfume that rocks the room
High silk hose and peek-a-boo clothes
You're all mine and I'm all yours in buttons
Buttons
Buttons and bows
Buttons and bows
Mexicali Rose stop crying
I'll come back to you some sunny day.
Every night you'll know that I'll be pining
Every hour a year while I'm away.
Dry those big brown eyes and smile dear
Banish all those tears and please don't sigh.
Kiss me once again and hold me
Mexicali Rose, goodbye.
Dry those big brown eyes and smile dear
Banish all those tears and please don't sigh.
Kiss me once again and hold me
Irene good night Irene good night
Good night Irene Good night Irene
I'll see you in my dreams
Last Saturday night I got married
Me and my wife settled down
Now me and my wife have parted
I'm gonna take a little stroll downtown
Irene good night Irene good night
Good night Irene Good night Irene
I'll see you in my dreams
Some times I live in the country
Some times I live in town
Some times I take a great notion
To jump in the river and drown
Irene good night Irene good night
Good night Irene Good night Irene
I'll see you in my dreams
Stop your rambling 'n' gambling
Stop staying out late at night
Go home to your wife and family
Stay at home by the fireside tonight
Irene good night Irene good night
Good night Irene Good night Irene
I'll see you in my dreams
(Irene good night Irene good night)
Good night Irene Good night Irene
I'll see you in my dreams
(Goodnight) I'll see you in my dreams
You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are grey
You'll never know dear, how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away
The other night dear, as I lay sleeping
I dreamed I held you in my arms
When I awoke, dear, I was mistaken
And I hung my head and cried
You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are grey
You'll never know dear, how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away
I'll always love you and make you happy
If you will only say the same
But if you leave me to love another
You'll regret it all some day
You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are grey
You'll never know dear, how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away
You told me once dear, you really loved me
And no one else dear, could come between
But now you've left me and love another
You have shattered all my dreams
You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are grey
You'll never know dear, how much I love you
From this valley they say you are going
I will miss your bright eyes and sweet smile
For they say you are taking the sunshine
That has brightened our pathways a while.
Do you think of the valley you're leaving
Oh how lonely and dreary it will be?
Do you think of the fond heart you're breaking
And the sadness you cast over me.
For a long time my dear I've been waiting
For the words that you never would say
And alas my poor heart you are breaking
For they tell me you're going away
As you go to your home by the ocean
May you never forget those sweet hours
That we spent in the Red River Valley
And the love we exchanged mid the flowers
Come and sit by my side if you love me
Do not hasten to bid me adieu
But remember the Red River Valley
A man named gene's got a beautiful voice
he carries me home on his beautiful horse
and where she waits, i will ride ride ride
come on stranger, just sing me a song
and if it's sad, i'll sing along-long-long,
i told you i knew every word
when i get to california
gonna write my name in the sand
i'm gonna lay this body down
and watch the waves roll in
and when the city spreads out
just like a cut vein
everybody drowns, sad and lonely
well everybody drowns, sad and lonely
well everybody drowns, sad and lonely alright
sweet sweet dreams, and color and sound
highways in the faraway to be found
i saw gold mines, in the sky sky sky
they were clouds just waiting to cry
and with the wind
i'm dancing drift drift drift
in the shapes of the place that i miss
and when i get to california
gonna write my name in the sand
i'm gonna lay this body down
and watch the waves roll in
i'm gonna rest this weary head
on someone who i think will care
but when the stars in the sky start fallin
i think you'll understand
that the city spreads out
just like a cut vein
everybody drowns, sad and lonely
well everybody drowns, sad and lonely
well everybody drowns, sad and lonely alright
yeah i'm waiting
for something to give
well i'm waiting
i hope it's not me
yeah i'm waiting
for something to give
