How I Live Now is a novel by Meg Rosoff, first published in 2004. It received generally positive reviews and won the British Guardian Children's Fiction Prize and the American Printz Award for young-adult literature.
Fifteen-year-old Elizabeth (who goes by the name of Daisy) is sent to stay with cousins on a remote farm in the United Kingdom during the outbreak of a fictional third world war of the 21st century. Though enthusiastic about moving away from an evil stepmother who is with child, Daisy is homesick at first. First meeting Edmond at the airport, Daisy calls him "some kind of mutt"; however, her view of Edmond changes after settling in. Daisy's homesickness only lasts for a short while before she and her extended family become close, and Daisy begins to embrace her new home. Daisy soon finds herself falling in love with cousin Edmond and, after realising that the affection is mutual, begins a relationship with him.

My favorite scene from the 2013 movie "How I Live Now" depicting the enjoyment of innocence and youth of the main characters, which will be contrasted by later scenes of the harsh and unforgiving nature of war. Music: "Which Will", by Nick Drake.

I'm living in a darkened room
Where all the lights are low
Smokey, poky
And I've been around too long
It's easier to cry
When you've forgotten how to laugh
And when they tried to warn me
Well they didn't know the half
(chorus)
Live now play later
Come inside and shut the door
I don't care if you're rich or poor
Live now play later
You're always welcome that's for sure
Lapping it up, you'll be back for more
I'm working after hours
Watching strangers come and go
Nothings' ever easy
But I'm putting on a show
All I wanna do
Is be around this time next year
My life has been a non-event
I'm getting outta here
(chorus x 2)
Live now play later
Live now play later
(chorus ad lib)
