Meteora Greece - Amazing Travel Guide, trip and experience
Check also - http://www.facebook.com/SimioniucAdrianIulianModel Meteora is wonderful place( unique and unbelievable) where you can find 6 monasteries , 4 inhibited by men and 2 inhibited by women. The closest city is Kalambaka at just 5 km where you can find some hotels but the prices are pretty high , I suggest you to get accomodation in Larissa(100km away) or in Thessaloniki(250km away) , Meteora is a 1 day destination because if you follow to main road you can visit all monasteries in just few hours. You can visit here also a cave. The Meteora means , 'middle of the sky','suspended in air'or 'in the heavens above' etymologically related with "Meteorite" is one of the largest and most important complexes of Eastern Orthodox monasteries in Greece, second only to Mount Athos. The six monasteries are built on natural sandstone rock pillars,on the plane of Thessaly near the Pindus mountains in central Greece You have 2 ways to get at Meteora , first is From Thessaloniki but you have to drive 250km and the second is from larissa and you have to drive just 100km or you can take a bus from a travel agency. About accommodation tell u that it is pretty bad and expensive , people usually come here to stay 1 night or maxim 2 because following the main road you can visit all monasteries in just 1 day Meteora is a place where you can find 6 monasteries 4 inhibited by man and 2 inhinited by women. As you can see to get here is not easy so take care. And finnaly when you get to the monastery you have to pay a tax to visit it In the 14th during the Ottoman invasion the monks decided to build new monasteries right on the pick, the only safe place in the period of time Here were 24 active monestries Kalambaka is the closest city situated at just 5km People started to live here thousands of years ago but in 9 century a group of monks move up to this nice place. Meteora is a place where natural and man made wonders are linked makeing this place unique. The Holy Monastery of Grand Meteoron is the largest of the monasteries located at Meteora. It was elected in the mid-14th century and the building serves as the main museum for tourists The holy monastery of Varlaam is the second largest monastery in the Meteora complex. It was built in 1541 and it is dedicated to all Saints. The holy monastery of St.Stehen is a small church built in the 16th century. This monastery rests on the plain rather than on a cliff. it was damaged by the Nazis during WW2 who believed it was harbouring insurgents and was abandoned.Nuns took it over and Reconstructed it. The monastery of the Holy Trinity is on top of the cliffs and it was built in 1475. The holy Monastery of St.Barbara was founded in the middle of 16th century. http://youtu.be/5oGkqUul4xE- published: 09 Jun 2013

Visit Cephalonia in Greece - Kefalonia - Kefalonia Travel Travel Videos HD, World Travel Guide http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=World1Tube Cephalonia or Kefalonia, formerly also known as Kefallinia or Kephallenia (Greek: Κεφαλονιά or Κεφαλλονιά) is the largest of the Ionian Islands in western Greece. It is also a separate regional unit of the Ionian Islands region, and the only municipality of the regional unit. The capital of Cephalonia is Argostoli. Geography The size of the island is about 781 km2 (300 mi2), and the present population density is 55 people per km2 (140/mi2). The town of Argostoli has one-third of the island's inhabitants. Lixouri is the second major settlement, and the two towns together account for almost two-thirds of the prefecture's population. Cephalonia is in the heart of an earthquake zone, and dozens of minor or unrecorded tremors occur each year. In 1953, a massive earthquake almost destroyed all settlement on the island, leaving only Fiscardo in the north untouched. Among important natural features are the Melissani Lake, the Drogarati caves, and the Koutavos Lagoon in Argostoli. The island has a rich biodiversity, with a substantial number of endemic and rare species. Parts of it have been declared a "Natura Site" in the European Union's NATURA 2000. Mountains The island's highest mountain is Mount Ainos, with an elevation of 1628 m; to the west-northwest are the Paliki mountains, where Lixouri is found, with other mountains including Geraneia (Gerania) and Agia Dynati. The top of Mount Ainos is covered with Abies cephalonica (fir trees) and is a natural park. Forestry is rare on the island; however its timber output is one of the highest in the Ionian islands, although lower than that of Elia in the Peloponnese. Forest fires were common during the 1990s and the early 2000s and still pose a major threat to the population. Tourism Tourism to Cephalonia started in the early 19th century, also the Royal Family of Greece sent their children in the summer months to Lixouri. But the island for a long time was not discovered by mass tourism until the 1980s. Tourists from all over Greece, Europe and the world visit Cephalonia. It is a popular vacation destination for many Italians, due to its close proximity to Italy. As one of the largest islands in Greece, it is well-equipped to handle the influx of tourists during the summertime, it has something to offer everyone. Two natural attractions, Melissani's underground lake and Myrtos beach, have helped popularize Cephalonia. The film, Captain Corelli's Mandolin (2001), shot on the island itself, made Cephalonia more widely known. Monasteries and churches Across the broader island, two large monasteries are to be found: the first is that of Haghia Panagia, in Markopoulo to the southeast, and the other lies on the road between Argostoli and Michata, on a small plain surrounded by mountains. This second has an avenue of about 200 trees aligned from NW to SE, with a circle in the middle, and is the monastery of Saint Gerasimus of Kefalonia, patron saint of the island, whose relics can be seen and venerated at the old church of the monastery. The monastery of "Sissia" was probably found by Francis of Assisi, it was destroyed 1953 but the ruins still exist. Although the island was destroyed by some earthquakes, many notable churches all over the island have survived. Some dating back to the renaissance. The ornaments of the churches are influenced by Venetian manierism. =================== Visit Cephalonia, Kefalonia, Cephalonia Tour, Cephalonia Tourism, Cephalonia Travel, Cephalonia Travel Guide, Cephalonia History, Geography Cephalonia, Culture Cephalonia, Cephalonia HD, Visit Greece, Greece Tour, Greece Tourism, Greece Travel, Greece Travel Guide, Greece History, Geography Greece, Culture Greece, Greece HD- published: 10 Apr 2014

Kos, Greece Travel Guide - Kos, Greece Tourism
World Travel https://www.youtube.com/user/World1Tube Greece Travel Guide http://bit.ly/19QqISc Shepherd Entertainment takes you on a tour of Kos in Greece, which is called the island of peace, soul and tranquility, but it's still most widely known as the birthplace of Hypocrites. Everything here reminds us of the father of medicine. An extremely old sycamore tree stands behind the Johanniter Fortress where the students of Hypocrites used to sit in the shade and study the mysteries of medicine. Visit the Island of Kos in Greece The North east neighbor of Rhodes, Kos is a 40 kilometer long island with 20,000 inhabitants. It is often called the island of peace, soul, and tranquility. However, it is more widely known as the birth place of Hippocrates. Here, everything reminds us of the father of medicine. Kos is the only Greek island which is not ruled by mountains since its highest point is only 840 meters. The island is only 8 kilometers away from the Turkish coast. It is near the town of Bodrum which was called Hali Carnasus in the ancient time. The mausoleum there was like the Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The islands capital has the same name too and to enhance the resemblance further hereto the harbor is also called Mandraki. It seems that the history book of coast was carbon copy from that of Rhodes. Its masters were first to the Adorian's, then the Achaeans. Later, it was conquered by Byzantine and Venize. In the 14th century, the Johanites did some fortifying works. In 1522, it was conquered by the Otoman's. Between 1912 and 1943 together with the other islands or Rhodes, it came under Italian Authority. When Mussolini attended to make the palace of the grand master in Rhodes his summer residence, he had every statue columns mosaic and relief transported there from Kos. Aside of which Rhodes cannot be too proud, can be found behind the fortress of the Johanites. Here, stands the extremely old sycamore tree under which Hippocrates too him said and we are thought the mysteries of medicine. It is a nice story however only partly true since the sycamore tree is 500 or 600 years old, so only a late descended of the original one. A well made by using an antique sarcophagus trickles in the trunk of a tree. Two significant Otoman buildings sneak an exotic flavor into the cityscape. These are the two storey building of the Letcher and Adefte Armas. The ancient market place, the large excavation area that reveals the relics of Angora is only a few steps away from the main square. The eight Corinthian columns of a particle from the 4th century BC can also be seen. The relics of the altar of Aphrodite as well as well as the three naïve Paleochristian Basilica have been excavated. Gray granite can be found here as well as another parts of the excavatio area of the town. The derivation of which was determined by professionals and Sicily. It has remained a mystery why and how these domes were transported here. The ruins were revealed only during the reconstruction works following an earthquake in 1933. Massive arches covered the town spa where the inhabitants could swim in four pools filled with water from hot springs. The floors of churches and houses were covered with mosaics. Some of which were removed by Italians but the other part can be admired and the archaeological museum of the island. The present day market place of the town can be found not far from the ancient Angora. In the shade of the massive building of the temple, a pleasant restaurant with the terrace offers refreshment. On the square, there's a squatty mosque. And opposite the mosque stands the building of the yacht club with its church clock. In the Venetian style arcuated building at the market, we can buy local specialties, spices, olive oil, honey, vegetable and fruit, but clams and sponges are also available. In the early afternoon, the streets become almost empty. Tourist paddles in the swimming pools of their hotels or lying in the shade of a beach umbrella seaside. The Mediterranean sand shoots its beams ferociously from the cloudless sky. The locals relax behind the blinds of their flat. World Travel https://www.youtube.com/user/World1Tube Greece Travel Guide http://bit.ly/19QqISc Shepherd Entertainment takes you on a tour of Rhodes, the largest island of the Dodecanese Islands which lies in the Aegean Sea not far from Asia Minor from which it was separated at the beginning of the Tertiary Period. The 1400 square kilometer island of Rhodes is the largest island of the Dodecanese Islands. It lies in the Aegean Sea not far from Asia Minor from which it was separated at the beginning of the Tertiary Period. It's closer to the coast of Turkey than Greece. Its coast is 220 kilometers long and its highest mountain is more than 1200 meters high. First, the island was inhabited by the Aegeans then it was overthrown by the Dorian invasion. The prosperity of the towns on the islands which took part in the Trojan War with nine galleys is mentioned several times by Homer in his Iliad. Their favorable geographical position and prosperity stemming 0:37 from this location have made the island an economic and political power. Rhodes created some colonies even in the times before Christ not only in Asia Minor but also on the territory of present-day France. The town by the same name which was put on the map by becoming one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Colossus of Rhodes was built on the north eastside of Rhodes Island on the territory of three ancient poelis in 408 BC. The statue depicted Helios the sun god when finally, the Macedonian King Demetrious withdrew after an unsuccessful siege of the town lasting one year, his abandoned battle machines were sold by the Rhodians and the huge bronze statue was erected from the amount of money received. The 31 meter high art works stood in the harbor of Mandraki and below its two sprawling legs, boats were running, guarded at night by a flare in the hand of the statue. It took 12 years for Cares of Lindos, the Greek sculptor, to build the work of night and only one night for an earthquake to destroy it. The remains stood on its place for more than 800 years. The present day town combines the ancient lineation of the streets and the gothic buildings of the middle ages with the masks and marionettes of oriental atmosphere. The Johanites played a dominant rule in the town's history and architecture. The town walls were built by members of the Johanite Military Order together with the best officers of the engineering core of the era. The center of the old town is a Hippocrates Square adorned with a fountain. An amazing view of the square opens up from terraces of nearby taverns and restaurants. The busy streets with several little shops look like a real Turkish bazaar which is of course no coincidence since we are in the Turkish quarter. The Turkish as is in the case of every conquered area left their mark on this place in the form of Turkish spas, jammies, masks and marionettes. Rhodes was able to preserve its glory and prosperity until the appearance of the Holy Roman Empire. Nowadays, the island is frequently called the Island of Roses. However, hardly any roses can be seen here but there is an abundance of oleander and hibiscus. The name can be traced back to the sun god called of the inhabitants of the island. According to the myth, Helios fell in love with the nymph Rhode, the daughter of Poseidon. The sovereign military order of St. John of Rhodes was established in the 11th century in Jerusalem. Driven out of the holy land, they tried to settle down in Cyprus. Then in 1306, they bought the Dodecanese from Genoese pirates. The order of the militant monks who wore red vest decorated with a crucifix on top of their chain armor became more and more influential. The Johanites became extremely wealthy by obtaining the fortune of their rival that is of Knight's Templar Order with papal assistance. Their fleet of black galleys played a significant role in commercial shipping. Meanwhile, the knights were continuously working on fortifying their towns. Sometimes, the town walls were 13 to 15 meters thick. They could resist two ottoman attacks. However, they couldn't defy the 100000 strong army of Suleiman the Magnificent and the Sultan conquered Rhodes in 1522. Following the battle, the knights were expelled to the Island of Crete, then Malta and their order has been know as the Order of Malta ever since. The Johanites consisted of seven groups of different nationalities that were called Languages. Languages such as English; German, Italian, Spanish, French as well as Auvergnat and Provencal were spoken. The languages had their own commanders who chose the Templar Grand Master which was almost equal to royal status. Hora, Greece travel Guide - Tourism Greece
World Travel Greece Travel Guide Shepherd Entertainment takes you on a tour of Hora, a quiet intimate village and besides some shops selling trinkets in a few cafes we can find nothing else but tranquility, Sunkist rocks, blooming oleanders and a gripping picturesque view. Visit Hora in Patmos and Lipsi Island in Greece We can turn off the road leading to the monastery and hit towards the cave of the Apokalypsis where according to legend, Saint John the Divine were divorced with the Lord. The herald of heaven sounded from the cleft in the rock and here is the rock on which the faithful disciples noted John's words. The winding road leads up to the quiet intimate village of Hora where besides some shops selling trinkets in a few cafés we can find nothing else but tranquility, Sunkist rocks, blooming oleanders and a gripping picturesque view. This tranquility and the view compensate us for the hardness of the road leading upwards. The golden brown wall of the monastery is girdled by a scallop molding. The building is a fanciful combination of terraces, stairs and the courtyards, arcades and balconies which is taken on its present shape over the centuries. Our ship turns to the northeast in the direction of the Turkish Riviera. Lipsi is one of the three islands near Patmos. These islands are small dots hardly noticeable even on maps. Arkoi and Agathonisi are visited only by adventurous people with private yachts primarily for the caves which is suitable for bathing. Their light blue water reminds us of the famous Blue Cave of Capri. Lipsi has just started to be discovered by travel agencies. Although it doesn't have any real attractions it has a pleasant atmosphere and its characteristic of Greek. On the island, there's a conspicuously high number of church towers and looking around from the port. We can see exactly a dozen. We've reached the end of our journey presenting the most significant sides of the Dodecanese island group, the trip which is always rich in experiences.
