Ghadames or Ghadamis /ɡəˈdæmɨs/ (Arabic: غدامس, Libyan vernacular: ġdāməs) is an oasis town in the Nalut District of the Tripolitania region in southwestern Libya.
Ghadames lies roughly 462 kilometres (287 mi) to the southwest of Tripoli, near the borders with Algeria and Tunisia. Ghadames borders Illizi Province, Algeria and Tataouine Governorate, Tunisia.
The oasis has a population of around 10,000, mainly Berbers. The old part of the town, which is surrounded by a city wall, has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage site. Each of the seven clans that used to live in this part of the town had its own district, of which each had a public place where festivals could be held.
The first records about Ghadames date from the Roman period, when the settlement was known as Cydamus. In the 1st century BC the Roman proconsul Lucius Cornelius Balbus invaded Cydamus during the reign of emperor Augustus. A permanent Roman garrison was established during the reign of Septimius Severus, and the emperor may have visited the settlement around AD 202. However, the Romans withdrew from the area a few decades later during the Crisis of the Third Century.
Since you went away I've had the blues everything is wrong since I lost you
Only God knows what I'm going through walk the floor and worry over you
Haven't slept a wink since you've been gone don't know how I'll stand this very long
Only God knows what I'm going through walk the floor and worry over you
[ steel ]
Maybe someday you'll return to me then things will be the way they used to be
Only you can make my dreams come true walk the floor and worry over you
I've got two arms that reach for you
I've got two eyes that watch for you
And I've got a heart full of love it's true for you you you
I'd take the moon from the sky for you
And I'd climb a mountain high for you
And I'd drain the ocean dry it's true for you you you
You you only you you're what it takes to make my dreams come true
I got a little dog that wags his tail for you
I got a little boat that I'd sail for you
And I'd like to spend my whole life through with you you you
I've got something old something new
Something borrowed something blue
And I've got a ring laid away it's true for you you you
I keep you happy and you'll never find
I'll be yours and you'll be mine
And I'll be till the end of time with you you you
You you only you you're what it takes to make my dreams come true
There's a cute little house that I'll buy for you
The minute that I say I do
Such a little time has passed since you went away
Where are all these heartaches coming from
I can hardly stand the pain of missing you today and I know the worst is yet to come
If there was something I could find to drive these tears from me
Then I'd go right out and get me one
I've already cried enough to fill the big blue sea and I know the worst is yet to come
[ steel ]
There'll be all these sleepless nights when I'll just lay and cry
And the hours seem to have no end
There'll be days when it won't matter if I live or die
Wishing I could have you back again
If there was something I could find...
You've got me trapped by two lips that keep begging me to stay
Trapped by two arms that won't let me walk away
You don't love me but you don't want me to go
You've got me trapped with a hopeless love I know
I keep saying that I'm gonna leave someday that you're not gonna hurt me anymore
But I'd be back before my footsteps fade away
And I'd be under your spell just like before
You've got me trapped...
[ steel ]
And so foolishly I keep hanging on to you
Even though I know you hurt me just once more
But what the use to go I couldn't stay I'd be back to you before you close the door
Well he rode that old truck out six days ago
I just stood and I listened till I couldn't hear a roar no more
I've been waitin' for him at night if you think I'm lonesome you're right
Six days a waitin' and he better make it home tonight
I keep real busy all day and tired all night
I just scrub and I polish everything there's in sight
Then I keep a walkin' to the door waitin' for that truck to roar
Six days a waitin' and he better make it home tonight
[ guitar ]
Well it seems like a month since I kissed my baby goodbye
I could have a lotta fellas but there's none like my guy
I could find one to hold me tight but I could never make believe it's alright
Six days a waitin' and he better make it home tonight
Well here I am a lookin' out that door again
Well I thought I heard that old truck turning in
Lookin' on this slickin' night if you think I'm happy you're right
Six days a waitin' and he's gonna make it home tonight
Six days a waitin' and my baby made it home tonight
I never know how long I'll get to hold you I never know and you'll find someone new
You're only mine when you grow tired of someone else
I'm just another stoppin' place for you
I'm just your old standby that's all I am to you
I'm just your old standby you want me when you're blue
I know you never love me and the thought makes me cry
Cause I know for sure that I'm nothin' more than just your old standby
I tell myself that lovin' you's not wrong but in my heart I know that it's a lie
You come around when you want me then you're gone
And once again I'm just your old standby
I'm with my little girl the only friend left in the world
So I gave her a book to color on
Just to pass the time away this had been her longest day
Everything is lonely with him gone
I laughed when I first looked at the pictures in her book
The way she colored everything all wrong
But this chill came over me as I realized that she
Had colored things as she felt baby long
She colored mommy blue with brown eyes crying
She made our house as grey as the dawn
She made the sun as black as night as if to say it had no light
But she didn't color daddy cause he's gone
Oh yes I'm so blue and I've been crying and our home is as grey as the dawn
And the sun it gives no light every day is black as night
And she didn't color daddy cause he's gone
You're always traveling on that truck day out and day in
And when you get back home it's nice to have you here again
You'd never run around on me cause you're not home that long
And the reason we're together is because you're always gone
I'm glad you might hear all the time I guess that may sound strange
But I know you like your freedom and I know you'll never change
You stay home for a day or two and never do me wrong
But the reason we're together is because you're always gone
Yes the reason we're together is because you never
Stay home long enough to carry on
When you're on the road well maybe you got a little truckstop baby
But I don't know what happens when you're gone
[ steel - guitar ]
It's like a second honemoon when you come rillin' in
You always bring a present back from someplace you have been
And when you're here you always hold and kiss me till the dawn
But the reason we're together is because you're always gone
Yes the reason we're together...
The first time you hurt me I thought I'd died
The second time it happened I cried all night
They say a heart can stand just so much grief and pain
But a fool in love keeps lovin' they never change
There's no fool like an old fool
That's loved and lost at least a hundred times
There's no fool like an old fool that keeps on falling for the same old line
You call and say you're soory that you let me down
I take you back cause you're what makes my world go round
And though I know my chances are so very small
I'd rather have a part of you than none at all
If you see me walking round in circles if you see me staring at the sky
If you think that I still miss you since you left me
Congratulations you're absolutely right
If you think life's been empty since you left me
If you think that I cry for you at night
If you think I take you back in a minute
Congratulations you're absolutely right
If you think that I try to call your number if you think I drive by your house at night
If you think I still love you like I used to
Congratulations you're absolutely right
Big Mack was a driver of a semi rig from Denver to the coast of Maine
And every truck driver and highwayman well they all knew big Mack's name
He stepped into a diner by the scales where he stopped to weigh
He looked at me I'm the waitress there and we all heard him say
Pour me a piece of coffee pass me a cup of bread
Why you're the sweetest things that I've ever seen and there's a ringin' in my head
Make my eggs a medium rare over easy now with my steak
I'm gonna buy you a farm in Texas gal if it takes everything I make
[ guitar ]
Well I stood there a starin' at Big Mack kind of in a state of shock
I told him when she set his orange juice down be careful Mack it's kinda hot
I've already buttered your coffee the toast is in your cup
Your french fried soup and scrambled prunes will soon be coming up
Well I took her apron off grabbed her coat down off the rack
Took Big Mack's arm and told my boss I'm a quittin' and I won't be back
I climbed up in my diesel both pipes were a spoutin' smoke
I heard someone say Big Mack just fell and this time it ain't no joke
Yeah pour me a piece of coffee...
I'll play second fiddle to your new love while it lasts
Just like all the others I played for in the past
Why can't I be a leader and play a leading part
Why must I always have to play second fiddle in your heart
So play fiddle play will there never come a day
When I won't have to play the part of second fiddle in your heart
[ fiddle ]
Each time you find a new love you leave me here to cry
The teardrops tell a story of a love that just won't die
Like an early mornin' paper the news you get just part
Why must I always have to play second fiddle in your heart
I'm a gonna roll out the red carpet when you come home
I'm gonna treat you like the way I feel like you ain't never known
I'm gonna have brass band at the station
I'm gonna let 'em know what the united nation
And I'm a gonna roll out the red carpet when you come home
Well I think I hear old 99 around in the bend
And I know it won't be long until you're in my arms again
I'm a gonna love you hug and kiss you I'm a gonna let you know how much I miss you
I'm a gonna roll out the red carpet when you come home
I'm a gonna roll out the red carpet...
[ guitar ]
Well I worn out my best shoes a walking the floor
And I won't sleep a wink till you knock on my door
Yeah ahead that's you a comin' the clock on the wall is about stop runnin'
And I'm a gonna roll out the red carpet when you come home
Promises promises that's all I ever get
You said you'd quit that trucking but you ain't quit it yet
Each time you come dragging in you say I'll have my way
You'll find a joke right here at home but that'll be the day
A little Danny boy was born in Amarrillo while you was somewhere on the road
You said you were snowbind in Idaho haulin' some heavy load
And when you lost that rig and done her pass honey you said you'd quit that day
You swore that run would be your last but ha that'll be the day
Promises promises...
You know Judy's gonna marry the boy next door the one that you've never even met
You told me that you'd get the drive away but well I know that you'll forget
And when they ask me where you are each night I don't know what to say
We're lonesome and wantin' you home with us but that'll be the day
You've got a way of makin' me blue
And I've got a way of hurtin' you too
Ooh what a terrible tangled web we're we don't we
You've got a gentleman on the side
And you've got a friend that you are tryin' to hide
Ooh what a terrible tangled web we're we don't we
We both got our way of goin' our way knowin' the cost gets greater each day
I know you know we both know we both deceive don't we
We've got a way of livin' a lie
And lie's got a way of makin' us cry
Ooh what a terrible tangled web we're we don't we
Why'd've we have to settle for it how can we take too much more it
It figures we both got the nerve to leave don't we
We've got a way of livin' a lie
And lie's got a way of makin' us cry
Ooh what a terrible tangled web we're we don't we
Everybody calls me the girl in a little pink Mack
The bampers of chrome and so are the wheels and the stacks
It's got polka dot curtains hangin' on a sleeper of pink
Ah ha this Mack's a dandy some kinda truck they think
In my truck drivin' boots I stand about five foot tree
But don't let this size fool you man I can take care of me
When you see a flash of pink go flyin' by
The next thing you know there's a tailight your eyes
Everybody wonders who'd drive such a rig like that
All the truckers would ask who's the gal in a little pink Mack
[ guitar ]
So don't mess around if you're looking for a race
To be wiped up by a girl would be a disgrace
Cause I cut my baby teeth on a set of Spicr gears
I'm a gear swappin' mama and I know the meanin' of fear
Everybody wonders who'd drive such a rig like that
All the truckers would ask who's the gal in a little pink Mack
All the truckers would ask who's the gal in a little pink Mack (would you believe)
All the truckers would ask who's the gal in a little pink Mack (oh boy)
All the truckers would ask who's the gal in a little pink MackEverybody calls me the girl in a little pink Mack
The bampers of chrome and so are the wheels and the stacks

You turn your head each time I meet you on the street
I brush your arm as you pass by but you won't speak
I call you on the telephone but can't get through
But I can't stop my loving you
So many times I've tried to find somebody new
Yeah to tell again the feeling I once felt with you
Though someone else is doing things I used to do
Oh I can't stop my loving you
Can't sleep at night
Can't hold you tight
Since this loneliness replaced the love we knew
I still hang around
Though you've turned me down
You touch my hand I understand
I nod my head and I know you've read what's on my mind
Mhmm I love you all the time
That's heart talk
A little smile you wink your eyes and all the while
It's no surprise I love you still
Mhmm and I'll always will
That's heart talk
Some people don't know how it done or how to go about it
Well I'd say they've got the wrong one cause there's no doubt about it
If you should leave
I wouldn't grieve
This one last kiss
Tells me you'll miss me all the time
Mhmm what's on your mind
Try heart talk
Forever and ever I'll love you I swear by the stars up above you
There never will be any other I'll love you forever and ever
The sun may stop shining in heaven the salty old sea may run dry
The Man in the Moon may stop smiling but I'll always be by your side
Forever and ever I'll love you...
No other arms ever will hold me no other lips ever will kiss me
No other heart ever will miss me I'll love you forever and ever
Forever and ever I'll love you...
Gotta buy a brand new dress gotta buy new shoes
Gotta get a goodnight sleep tomorrow comes the blues
There's no way I can stop them what will be will be
I've got a big big day tomorrow my baby's leaving me
I've heard him tell his new love tomorrow will go away
If that's what you wanna do love I'll never stand in your way
Got a practice out to smile and take it gracefully
I've got a big big day tomorrow my baby's leaving me
[ steel ]
I've heard him tell his new love...
Well a devil like me needs an angel like you to really tame me down
If an angel like me had the devil like you I'd stop your runnin' around
Yeah I'd stay at home like a good man should I'd never ever make you blue
Cause a devil like me needs an angel like you you bet your little heart we do
Well you've never been warm for city girls you've always played the field
This one that one ever other which one just another turnin' the wheel
But when you've walked in with your big brown eyes
And your pretty little dress of blue
I knew a devil like me needs an angel like you you bet your little heart we do
Well if a devil me had an angel like you I'd change my reputation
Cause a devil like me with a shady hairs ain't got no recommandation
I give you real love true love a whole lotta sweet love
And I make your every dreams come true
Yes an angel like me needs the devil like you you bet your little heart she do
Well a devil like me needs an angel like you to really tame me down
If an angel like me had the devil like you I'd stop your runnin' around
Yeah I'd stay at home like a good man should I'd never ever make you blue
Cause a devil like me needs an angel like you you bet your little heart we do
Cause the devil like you
Needs an angel like you
Well he told me I had what it takes,
And he told me all I needed was one lucky break.
Then he played me, like he played his guitar,
And he said, "When you get to Nashville, I'll make you a star."
Chorus:
But I never got to Nashville, he didn't make me a star.
No, I never got to nashville, I'm still playing in this bar.
But I'm gonna keep on trying, 'cause trying hard is what it takes.
And someday I'll be big in Nashville, someday I'll get that lucky break.
The jukebox plays his records he's number one.
And I know that I was just one night of fun.
Time goes by and Nashville seems so far away,
But I know I can make it, I'm on my way.
I'm a gonna roll out the red carpet when you come home
I'm gonna treat you like the way I feel like you ain't never known
