Why I voted Yes on S.Amdt to H.R. 3783

I voted Yes on the Senate Amendment to H.R. 3783, the Countering Iran in the Western Hemisphere Act.

This bill states that it shall be U.S. policy "to use a comprehensive government-wide strategy" to counter Iran's "growing hostile presence and activity in the Western Hemisphere by working together with United States allies and partners in the region to mutually deter threats to United States interests" presented by the Government of Iran and their partners. Further, it requires a full assessment of those threats posed by Iran in the Western Hemisphere and the development of a complementary strategy to counter such threats. As the global economy brings the world closer together, we must remain vigilant to ensure that we remain prepared to defend ourselves against those who may wish to do us harm by exploiting opportunities to gain footholds through economic and other unconventional and illicit activities around the world.

The bill was approved by a vote of 386 – 6.
