A sound synthesizer (often abbreviated as "synthesizer" or "synth") is an electronic instrument capable of producing a wide range of sounds. Synthesizers may either imitate other instruments ("imitative synthesis") or generate new timbres. They can be played (controlled) via a variety of different input devices (including keyboards, music sequencers and instrument controllers). Synthesizers generate electric signals (waveforms), and can finally be converted to sound through the loudspeakers or headphones.
Synthesizers use a number of different technologies or programmed algorithms to generate signal, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Among the most popular waveform synthesis techniques are subtractive synthesis, additive synthesis, wavetable synthesis, frequency modulation synthesis, phase distortion synthesis, physical modeling synthesis and sample-based synthesis. Also other sound synthesis methods including subharmonic synthesis used on mixture trautonium, granular synthesis resulting Soundscape or Cloud, are rarely used. (See #Types of synthesis)
Hans Jorgen Fjellestad (born 2 May, 1968) is a musician and filmmaker based in Los Angeles. Fjellestad co-founded the Trummerflora Collective, and has worked as a curator/producer for the international art initiative, inSite 05. A classically trained pianist, he studied music composition and improvisation at University of California, San Diego. Fjellestad has composed for film, video, theater, dance and has toured with his music and film work throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe, Australia, Japan, Mexico and Brazil.
He is best known as the director of Moog (2004), the feature-length documentary on synthesizer pioneer Robert Moog. He is also credited as producer, writer and editor. Fjellestad's previous film Frontier Life (2002) is a documentary feature that explores the world of Tijuana, Mexico, with a focus on the vibrant electronic music scene thriving there. Fjellestad began working on film, television and multimedia projects in the mid-1990s. He directed/edited music videos and enhanced cd content for the likes of Soundgarden, John Lydon, the Monkees and Terence Trent D'Arby. In 2000, partnering with producer Ryan Page, he started the Los Angeles-based independent film production firm ZU33, which develops music-oriented film projects.
Butch Walker (born Bradley Glenn Walker on November 14, 1969) is an American recording artist, songwriter, and record producer. He was the lead guitarist for the metal band SouthGang from the late 80s to early 90s as well as the lead vocalist and guitarist for rock band Marvelous 3 from 1997 until 2001.
Walker grew up in Cartersville, Georgia, working as a guitarist and performer in several rock bands in the 1980s, including Badd Boyz and Byte the Bullet. In 1988, he took Byte the Bullet to Los Angeles and they were signed to Virgin Records within the year. The band then changed their name to SouthGang and released two albums, Tainted Angel in 1991 and Group Therapy in 1992. SouthGang was one of the first bands to tour China in the early 1990s. Southgang disbanded when Walker lost interest in continuing, but he remained on good terms with all the other members of the band.
Stephen John Anderson is an American animator, film director, screenwriter and voice actor who made his feature-film directorial debut with Meet The Robinsons. Anderson joined Walt Disney Feature Animation in 1995 as a story artist on Tarzan. Prior to joining Disney, Anderson worked as an animator at Hyperion Animation on Rover Dangerfield and Bebe's Kids. He made his television directorial debut with the series The Itsy Bitsy Spider. Anderson grew up in Plano, Texas, before attending the California Institute of the Arts, where he also served as a story instructor for five years.
Following Tarzan, Stephen served as story supervisor for The Emperor's New Groove and Brother Bear.
Stephen currently resides in Canyon Country, California, with his wife, Heather, and their son, Jacob.
