At Le Studio (Morin Heights) - Rush - The Spirit of Radio - Drum Cover
Short Version Description:
Drum cover of
Rush’s
The Spirit of Radio recorded at the very spot were Neil recorded his drums for the making of the
Permanent Waves album. That spot in question is the now abandoned
Le Studio in
Morin Heights Quebec in the beautiful Laurentian area.
This is as close as I could get to the actual take recorded by Neil on the Permanent Waves album, considering that I have only a five piece kit, (which looked great in the room yet tiny compared to Mr. Peart kit of the day) and because of the “cloak-and-dagger operation” of arriving, setting up quickly, recording and getting out without anyone noticing since, even though it is abandoned, the studio does have an owner. (Which in the end failed since people started to look in and take a peak, lol).
I did this cover because recording spaces such as Le Studio in
Quebec, and in the world for that matter, are becoming scarce. Which is a shame because my drums never sounded so vibrant, full, resonant in and as alive as they did in that swift moment of recording in that beautiful sound room. So this cover/video is a tribute to both musical icons; Le Studio which was a world renowned recording facility and is sadly in a state of deterioration. Its fate is unknown. Therefore, I wanted to make this place sing again if for one last time before it’s too late. Le Studio should be preserved for its historical value alone. (See link below) But it also could be redeemed as an academic summer camp for young musicians or a retreat for music therapy. They could be so many options. And, secondly of course to
RUSH which have provided the musical landscape and, dare I say, awaken many of us to critical thinking, to make the dreamer and the misfit feel that he/she are not alone.
Happy 40th RUSH! What a ride it’s been. We thank you!
I hope you guys like it, subscribe to my channel.
