Eid-ul-Fitr, Eid al-Fitr, Id-ul-Fitr, or Id al-Fitr (Arabic: ‎عيد الفطر ‘Īdu l-Fiṭr), often abbreviated to Eid, is a Muslim holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting (sawm). Eid is an Arabic word meaning "festivity", while Fiṭr means "breaking the fast". The holiday celebrates the conclusion of the 29 or 30 days of dawn-to-sunset fasting during the entire month of Ramadan. The first day of Eid, therefore, falls on the first day of the month Shawwal. This is a day where Muslims around the world try to show a common goal of unity. It is a day of recognizance of Allah.

Eid-ul-Fitr has a particular salah (Islamic prayer) consisting of two raka'ah (units) and generally offered in an open field or large hall. It may only be performed in congregation (Jama’at) and has an additional extra six Takbirs (raising of the hands to the ears while saying "Allah-u-Akbar" [God is Great]), three of them in the beginning of the first raka'ah and three of them just before ruku' in the second raka'ah in the Hanafi school. This Eid ul-Fitr salah is, depending on which juristic opinion is followed, Fard (obligatory), Mustahabb (strongly recommended, just short of obligatory) or mandoob (preferable).

Hamza Yusuf Hanson is an American Islamic scholar, and (with Zaid Shakir and Hatem Bazian) is co-founder of Zaytuna College in Berkeley, California, United States. He is a convert to Islam, and is one of the signatories of A Common Word Between Us and You, an open letter by Islamic scholars to Christian leaders, calling for peace and understanding. He has described the 9/11 attacks as "an act of 'mass murder, pure and simple'". Condemning the attacks, he has also stated "Islam was hijacked ... on that plane as an innocent victim".The Guardian newspaper in the United Kingdom reported that he "is arguably the west's most influential Islamic scholar" and added that "many Muslims find his views hard to stomach."

Hamza Yusuf was born to two academics in Washington State and raised in Northern California. In 1977, he became Muslim and subsequently traveled to the Muslim world and studied for ten years in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, as well as North and West Africa. Hamza Yusuf spent four years studying in the United Arab Emirates and elsewhere in the Middle East. Later he traveled to West Africa and studied in Mauritania, Medina, Algeria, and Morocco under such scholars as Murabit al Haaj; Baya bin Salik, head of the Islamic court in Al-'Ain, United Arab Emirates; Muhammad Shaybani, Mufti of Abu Dhabi; Hamad al-Wali; and Muhammad al-Fatrati of Al Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt.^{[citation needed]} After more than a decade abroad, he returned to the United States and earned degrees in nursing from Imperial Valley College and religious studies at San José State University.^{[citation needed]}

Mosharraf Karim (Bengali: মোশাররফ করিম) was born on 22 August 1976 and he is a very talented and popular actor of Bangladesh. Mosharraf is widely known around Bangladesh due to his superb skill in acting, achieving many awards and honours. Mosharraf generally acts more frequently in Dramas and Dramaserials, than in Bengali films. His recent works this year include numerous dramas and dramaserials. Three different Dramaserials have gone to air 2009 starring Mosharraf; which include Sakin Sarisuri, Aim in Life and Housefull, and also his most recent 'Mega-serials' that have gone to air in 2010 are Family and Friends, Fifty 50 and Patigonit. His Dramas are also very notable, as well as the handful of Films he has done, including the award winning Third Person Singular Number. At the moment he is working in the film Television directed by Faruki. Currently he is working two TV mega serials Long March (on air) and Red Signal directed by famous director and writer Masud Sezan.

Hanif Sanket (Bengali: হানিফ সংকেত; full name: A K M Hanif) is a Bangladeshi comedian, entertainer and presenter.

Sanket was born in 1957 in Barisal District. He first gained prominence in the early 1980s when he performed comic skits on Fazle Lohani's variety show Jodi Kichhu Mone Na Koren (If You Don't Mind). Since then, he has become a household name in Bangladesh. Sanket's variety show Ittyadi (Et cetera) is a popular program on Bangladeshi television.

Sanket has a wide following among the Bangladeshi diaspora, and he frequently travels abroad with cultural troupes to perform for expatriate Bangladeshis. He has also released a number of comedy albums, and has acted in television dramas on several occasions.

He was awarded the Ekushey Padak in 2010 for social service.
