Second world war propaganda film starring Avice Landone, Frederick Piper and Enid Hewit. A charity appeal on behalf of the Red Cross. Opening titles read: "Until the Day... This story began on Xmas Morn. 1942 - it will not end until Victory."
Begins with a nice sequence showing a man and woman listening intently to the radio on Christmas morning. They are parents of a soldier posted to Egypt and they are listening to a radio show which broadcasts messages home. They are hoping for a message from their son. As messages are read, pictures of family members listening around Britain are superimposed over the radio. Nice illustration of the power of radio broadcasting during this period. Broadcaster is Peter Haddon (sp?).
A letter arrives - bad news. Their son is missing. They receive a message from the War Office that their son is a prisoner of war. They phone "Martha" - his wife or girlfriend? from a telephone box. They visit the offices of the Red Cross where they are told all about the work the charity is doing to send parcels to prisoners of war. A typical Red Cross food parcel is shown to the parents. It includes a steak and kidney pudding, cocoa, tinned fish, biscuits etc. His mother wants to send him warm vests and his mouth organ! Various shots of Red Cross parcels being packed. Next of kin are allowed to send a parcel every three months. Family are given extra clothing coupons in order to buy things to send their son. Red Cross woman shows the parents a list of the books, games and musical equipment the Red Cross send out.
There follows a sequence showing how Red Cross parcels are packed, distributed, etc. The department that deals with education is shown. Books are tied together to be sent out to prisoners. Captured Film of British Prisoners in Germany is shown. The parents praise the organisation and the Red Cross woman tells them how much it costs the charity to do all this great work for the boys overseas. Father makes an appeal to "all these people seated here in the comfort of this cinema." There will be a collecting box coming around after the film. Ends with an on-screen message as follows:

Oh, Mr Porter! is a 1937 British comedy film starring Will Hay with Moore Marriott and Graham Moffatt and directed by Marcel Varnel. While not Hay's most commercially successful (although it grossed £500,000 at the box office - equal to over £30,000,000 in modern-day money), it is probably his best-known film to modern audiences. It is widely acclaimed as the best of Hay's work, and a classic of its genre. The film had its first public showing in November 1937 and went on general release on 3 January 1938. The plot of Oh, Mr Porter was loosely based on the Arnold Ridley play The Ghost Train. The title was taken from Oh! Mr Porter, a music hall song.

The Transporter star Jason Statham takes the wheel in director Paul W.S. Anderson's remake of the Roger Corman classic about a hyper-violent cross-country race that breaks all of the traditional rules of the road. The time is the not-so-distant future, and as America's prisons begin overflowing with violent criminals, the powers that be devise a grisly game that will free up space in the cells and entertain the masses at the same time. Jensen Ames (Statham) is a three-time speedway champion with a dark past. A survival expert and ex-con whose sordid history comes back to haunt him when he is framed for a murder he didn't commit, Ames is forced to choose between donning the metallic mask of a mythical racer known as Frankenstein or languishing away on Terminal Island -- America's most notorious penitentiary. Over the course of the next three days, this unlikely champion will get behind the wheel of a nightmare machine outfitted with machine guns, grenade launchers, and flamethrowers in a desperate attempt to outrun some of the most violent criminals ever imprisoned. Should Ames be the first to cross the checkered flag, he will win his freedom; should he come in second, however, death would be preferable to a grim future in a cramped concrete cell. Frederick Piper
Frederick Piper (23 September 1902 – 22 September 1979) was an English actor who appeared in over 80 films and many television productions in a career spanning over 40 years. Never a leading player, Piper was usually cast in minor, sometimes uncredited, parts although he also appeared in some more substantial supporting roles. Piper never aspired to star-status, but became a recognisable face on the British screen through the sheer volume of films in which he appeared. His credits include a number of films which are considered classics of British cinema, among them five 1930s Alfred Hitchcock films; he also appeared in many Ealing Studios productions, including some of the celebrated Ealing Comedies.
Film career
Born in London in 1902, Piper worked as a tea merchant before starting his acting career on the stage in the 1920s, playing in London productions and also touring as far afield as Canada. His first film appearance came in the 1933 production The Good Companions.
An unassuming man with no trappings of ambition or conceit, Piper rapidly earned a reputation as a reliable, congenial presence on set and became a first choice for directors with smaller roles to cast, accumulating screen credits at the rate of up to six a year through to the 1960s. He appeared as an extra in Hitchcock's 1934 film The Man Who Knew Too Much (credited as "Policeman with Rifle"), and the following year was cast again by Hitchcock in the role of the milkman in the famous scene with Robert Donat in The 39 Steps. Piper was only on screen for seconds, but the iconic nature of the scene ultimately made this probably his most famous film appearance. Later minor roles for Hitchcock were Sabotage (1936 – as the doomed bus conductor), Young and Innocent (1937) and Jamaica Inn (1939 – as Charles Laughton's agent).

Danger Man
Danger Man (titled Secret Agent in the United States, and Destination Danger and John Drake in other non-UK markets) is a British television series which was broadcast between 1960 and 1962, and again between 1964 and 1968. The series featured Patrick McGoohan as secret agent John Drake. Ralph Smart created the programme and wrote many of the scripts. Danger Man was financed by Lew Grade's ITC Entertainment.

Programme overview
The first series of episodes ran to 24–25 minutes each and portrayed John Drake as working for a Washington, D.C.-based intelligence organization, apparently on behalf of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, whose assignments frequently took him to Africa, Latin America, and the Far East. In episode 9, "The Sanctuary", Drake declares he is an Irish-American.
He sometimes seemed at odds with his superiors about the ethics of the missions. Many of Drake's cases involved aiding democracy in foreign countries and he was also called upon to solve murders and crimes affecting the interests of either the U.S. or NATO or both.

Will Hay
William Thomson "Will" Hay (6 December 1888 – 18 April 1949) an English comedian, who first became well-known for his theatrical sketch as a joke-schoolmaster, which he took on world tours. He moved on to films, some of them continuing the schoolmaster theme, in which he also featured as a writer and director. In The Goose Steps Out (1942), his brand of humour was adapted for war propaganda. Hay was also a keen amateur astronomer, who built his own observatory.
Early life
Hay was born William Thomson Hay at 23 Durham Street in Stockton-on-Tees, County Durham, England, to William Robert Hay (1851–1920) and his wife Elizabeth (1859-1910) (née Ebden) who married on 31 May 1883. Hay had one brother, Harold Gordon and three sisters, Evelyn Jane, Lizzie and Annie. When Hay was less than a year old the family moved to Suffolk.
Stage and film career
Hay joined a firm of engineers, before becoming an actor at age 21. He appeared in Manchester as a juggler after seeing W.C. Fields perform. Hay had a brief screen career; by the time he made his first film he was in his mid-40s. Between 1934 and 1943 he was a popular comedy actor and was credited in several films as a writer.

Second world war propaganda film starring Avice Landone, Frederick Piper and Enid Hewit. A charity appeal on behalf of the Red Cross. Opening titles read: "Until the Day... This story began on Xmas Morn. 1942 - it will not end until Victory."
Begins with a nice sequence showing a man and woman listening intently to the radio on Christmas morning. They are parents of a soldier posted to Egypt and they are listening to a radio show which broadcasts messages home. They are hoping for a message from their son. As messages are read, pictures of family members listening around Britain are superimposed over the radio. Nice illustration of the power of radio broadcasting during this period. Broadcaster is Peter Haddon (sp?).
A letter arrives - bad news. Their son is missing. They receive a message from the War Office that their son is a prisoner of war. They phone "Martha" - his wife or girlfriend? from a telephone box. They visit the offices of the Red Cross where they are told all about the work the charity is doing to send parcels to prisoners of war. A typical Red Cross food parcel is shown to the parents. It includes a steak and kidney pudding, cocoa, tinned fish, biscuits etc. His mother wants to send him warm vests and his mouth organ! Various shots of Red Cross parcels being packed. Next of kin are allowed to send a parcel every three months. Family are given extra clothing coupons in order to buy things to send their son. Red Cross woman shows the parents a list of the books, games and musical equipment the Red Cross send out.
There follows a sequence showing how Red Cross parcels are packed, distributed, etc. The department that deals with education is shown. Books are tied together to be sent out to prisoners. Captured Film of British Prisoners in Germany is shown. The parents praise the organisation and the Red Cross woman tells them how much it costs the charity to do all this great work for the boys overseas. Father makes an appeal to "all these people seated here in the comfort of this cinema." There will be a collecting box coming around after the film. Ends with an on-screen message as follows:

The Transporter star Jason Statham takes the wheel in director Paul W.S. Anderson's remake of the Roger Corman classic about a hyper-violent cross-country race that breaks all of the traditional rules of the road. The time is the not-so-distant future, and as America's prisons begin overflowing with violent criminals, the powers that be devise a grisly game that will free up space in the cells and entertain the masses at the same time. Jensen Ames (Statham) is a three-time speedway champion with a dark past. A survival expert and ex-con whose sordid history comes back to haunt him when he is framed for a murder he didn't commit, Ames is forced to choose between donning the metallic mask of a mythical racer known as Frankenstein or languishing away on Terminal Island -- America's most notorious penitentiary. Over the course of the next three days, this unlikely champion will get behind the wheel of a nightmare machine outfitted with machine guns, grenade launchers, and flamethrowers in a desperate attempt to outrun some of the most violent criminals ever imprisoned. Should Ames be the first to cross the checkered flag, he will win his freedom; should he come in second, however, death would be preferable to a grim future in a cramped concrete cell. While not Hay's most commercially successful (although it grossed £500,000 at the box office - equal to over £30,000,000 in modern-day money), it is probably his best-known film to modern audiences. It is widely acclaimed as the best of Hay's work, and a classic of its genre. The film had its first public showing in November 1937 and went on general release on 3 January 1938. The plot of Oh, Mr Porter was loosely based on the Arnold Ridley play The Ghost Train. The title was taken from Oh! Mr Porter, a music hall song.

Second world war propaganda film starring Avice Landone, Frederick Piper and Enid Hewit. A charity appeal on behalf of the Red Cross. Opening titles read: "Until the Day... This story began on Xmas Morn. 1942 - it will not end until Victory."
Begins with a nice sequence showing a man and woman listening intently to the radio on Christmas morning. They are parents of a soldier posted to Egypt and they are listening to a radio show which broadcasts messages home. They are hoping for a message from their son. As messages are read, pictures of family members listening around Britain are superimposed over the radio. Nice illustration of the power of radio broadcasting during this period. Broadcaster is Peter Haddon (sp?).
A letter arrives - bad news. Their son is missing. They receive a message from the War Office that their son is a prisoner of war. They phone "Martha" - his wife or girlfriend? from a telephone box. They visit the offices of the Red Cross where they are told all about the work the charity is doing to send parcels to prisoners of war. A typical Red Cross food parcel is shown to the parents. It includes a steak and kidney pudding, cocoa, tinned fish, biscuits etc. His mother wants to send him warm vests and his mouth organ! Various shots of Red Cross parcels being packed. Next of kin are allowed to send a parcel every three months. Family are given extra clothing coupons in order to buy things to send their son. Red Cross woman shows the parents a list of the books, games and musical equipment the Red Cross send out.
There follows a sequence showing how Red Cross parcels are packed, distributed, etc. The department that deals with education is shown. Books are tied together to be sent out to prisoners. Captured Film of British Prisoners in Germany is shown. The parents praise the organisation and the Red Cross woman tells them how much it costs the charity to do all this great work for the boys overseas. Father makes an appeal to "all these people seated here in the comfort of this cinema." There will be a collecting box coming around after the film. Ends with an on-screen message as follows:
Extract of Letter from British Prisoner of War - "If it were not for the Red X parcels many of us would never see Blighty again."
The film ends - the Story goes on - Until the Day we welcome them all home."

The Transporter star Jason Statham takes the wheel in director Paul W.S. Anderson's remake of the Roger Corman classic about a hyper-violent cross-country race that breaks all of the traditional rules of the road. The time is the not-so-distant future, and as America's prisons begin overflowing with violent criminals, the powers that be devise a grisly game that will free up space in the cells and entertain the masses at the same time. Jensen Ames (Statham) is a three-time speedway champion with a dark past. A survival expert and ex-con whose sordid history comes back to haunt him when he is framed for a murder he didn't commit, Ames is forced to choose between donning the metallic mask of a mythical racer known as Frankenstein or languishing away on Terminal Island -- America's most notorious penitentiary. Over the course of the next three days, this unlikely champion will get behind the wheel of a nightmare machine outfitted with machine guns, grenade launchers, and flamethrowers in a desperate attempt to outrun some of the most violent criminals ever imprisoned. Should Ames be the first to cross the checkered flag, he will win his freedom; should he come in second, however, death would be preferable to a grim future in a cramped concrete cell. While not Hay's most commercially successful (although it grossed £500,000 at the box office - equal to over £30,000,000 in modern-day money), it is probably his best-known film to modern audiences. It is widely acclaimed as the best of Hay's work, and a classic of its genre. The film had its first public showing in November 1937 and went on general release on 3 January 1938. The plot of Oh, Mr Porter was loosely based on the Arnold Ridley play The Ghost Train. The title was taken from Oh! Mr Porter, a music hall song.
