Robert Malcolm "Bob" Sapp (Japanese: [Bobbu Sappu]; born September 22, 1974) is an American kickboxer, mixed martial artist, professional wrestler, actor, comedian and former professional American football player. Sapp currently has a combined fight record of 22–28–1, mostly fighting in Japan. He is well known in Japan, where he has appeared in countless commercials, television programs, and various other media, and has released a music CD, It's Sapp Time. He also appeared in an episode of the HBO program Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel. He is currently working sporadically for various MMA promotions in the U.S., Japan, and Europe. In MMA, Sapp holds a win over Kiyoshi Tamura and in K-1, he holds wins over K-1 legend Ernesto Hoost (2x) and Cyril Abidi.
Bob Sapp began his athletic career in high school playing football at Mitchell High School in Colorado Springs, CO. He received a football scholarship to the University of Washington, where he won the Morris Award. He was drafted by the Chicago Bears 69th overall in the 1997 NFL Draft. Sapp's career took a hit after he was suspended by the NFL for alleged steroid abuse. Sapp signed with the Minnesota Vikings after being released by the Bears. He spent two seasons with the Vikings and only played in one game.
Ernesto Fritz "Mr. Perfect" Hoost (born July 11, 1965 in Heemskerk, North Holland) is a Dutch former kickboxing legend and four-time K-1 World Champion. He made his debut in 1993 at the K-1 World Grand Prix 1993, where he came just one win short of the world title. He announced his retirement on December 2, 2006 after the K-1 World GP Final tournament in Tokyo Dome, Japan.
In 1993, in his first K-1 World Grand Prix, in quarterfinals Hoost defeated Peter Aerts by decision, knocked out Maurice Smith in semis and advanced to the tournament finals where he was knocked out by Branko Cikatic. Hoost got another shot at a title on December 19, 1993, when he won the K-2 World Championship, knocking out Changpuek Kiatsongrit in four rounds. This was the only time the K-1 organization held a K-2 tournament.
Hoost reached the K-1 World Grand Prix Finals again in 1995, but lost to Peter Aerts by a four round decision. He went on to win every fight the remainder of that year. In 1996, he lost at the K-1 World Grand Prix 1996 finals to Andy Hug by a four round split decision. He finally became K-1 World Champion in 1997 when he beat Hug by a three-round unanimous decision.
Alexander Vladimirovich Emelianenko (Russian: Александр Владимирович Емельяненко, tr. Aleksandr Vladimirovich Emel'janenko [ˌalekˈsandr vlɐˈdʲimʲɪrəvʲɪtɕ jɪmʲɪlʲˈjanʲɪnkə]; born (1981-08-02)August 2, 1981), more commonly known as Alexander Emelianenko or Aleksander Emelianenko, is a Russian mixed martial artist. He is a three-times Russian national Sambo champion and three-time world Sambo champion in the absolute division. He is the younger brother of Fedor Emelianenko.
Emelianenko was born on (1981-08-02)August 2, 1981 in Stary Oskol, Belgorod Oblast, Russia (Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic at the time) in a family of a teacher, Olga Feodorovna Emelianenko, and a welder, Vladimir Alexandrovich Emelianenko. He is the third child in the family and has an older sister, Marina, an older brother, Fedor, and a younger brother, Ivan.
In his childhood, since his parents were working during the day, Emelianenko spent a lot of time on the streets. During his early teens, he used to take part in street fights while his parents were working, going so far as being involved in a riot between neighborhoods.
Remy "The Flying Gentleman" Bonjasky (born January 10, 1976) is a Dutch super heavyweight kickboxer of Surinamese descent. He is a three-time K-1 World Grand Prix champion, who has won the title in 2003, 2004, and 2008. He has been known for his flying kicks and knee attacks, hence the nickname of "The Flying Gentleman".
Bonjasky was born in Paramaribo, Suriname and moved to Tilburg, the Netherlands when he was 5 years old.
He was involved in football (soccer) during his teens, but when he broke his leg he chose to stop playing. At the age of 18, when a friend brought him to the Mejiro kickboxing gym to "see who is the best", Bonjasky decided to stay and train and eventually fell in love with kickboxing, although he declared Muay Thai to be his style.
Bonjasky had his first fight at the age of 19 against an established Dutch mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter named Valentijn Overeem. Bonjasky won by TKO. From this moment on he quit his job as a network operator and focused on training full time. Despite losing his first K-1 fight by split decision he made his second fight against an established K-1 fighter, Ray Sefo. Despite the odds he won the fight by TKO.
