Adiabene (from the Ancient Greek Ἀδιαβηνή, Adiabene, itself derived from Classical Syriac: ܚܕܝܐܒ, Ḥaḏy’aḇ or Ḥḏay’aḇ, Old Persian/Armenian: Nodshirakan) was an ancient kingdom in Assyria, with its capital at Arbela (modern-day Arbil, Iraq). Its rulers converted to Judaism from Ashurism in the 1st century. Queen Helena of Adiabene (known in Jewish sources as Heleni HaMalka) moved to Jerusalem where she built palaces for herself and her sons, Izates bar Monobaz and Monobaz II at the northern part of the city of David, south of the Temple Mount. According to the Talmud, both Helena and Monbaz donated large funds for the Temple of Jerusalem.
Adiabene occupied a district in Assyria between the Upper Zab (Lycus) and the Lower Zab (Caprus), though Ammianus speaks of Nineveh, Ecbatana, and Gaugamela as also belonging to it. Although nominally a dependency of the Parthian Empire, for some centuries, beginning with the 1st century BC, it was independent. In the Talmudic writings the name occurs as חדייב,חדייף and הדייב, which is parallel to its Syriac form "Hadyab" or "Hedayab." Its chief city was Arbela (Arba-ilu), where Mar Uqba had a school, or the neighboring Hazzah, by which name the later Arabs also called Arbela.
In the corner of my living room lies the ring she threw behind
I can’t bring myself to pick it up, you know she still might change her mind
Every morning around 6am the sun hits it just right
I’ll spend another day in hell just waiting on the night
I see the way people look at me, I guess it’s all over my face
The scar above my left eye is something I just can’t erase
I try to look in someone else’s mirror, try to find a different view
Oh it’s really sad to say, but it’s all I got left of you
Chorus:
Well I’m the lone survivor of the wreckage that is left
I brought the walls down baby, I made all this mess
Lying in the ashes, I must confess
Oh you had me at my best
The pain sometimes disappears, but your memories are never gone
I lock myself in our bedroom cause it’s best if I’m alone
I’ve been falling asleep in my old chair with the TV on
Cause our bed won’t let me sleep, cause love is all it’s known
Chorus
Chorus
Ya, You Had Me At My Best
You've gotten use to
No one to hold you
Maybe you're good at all alone
You ain't pretending
You're some helpless princess
And you ain't waiting by the phone
You got all you got on your own
Baby you think you
Have it all, don't you
Who am I to disagree?
Ain't nothing missing
By they way that your living
And you got all you need
Baby you ain't got me
I understand how
You don't want no man now
Coming around messing up your world
You're going to hurt me
But Baby don't worry
Hurting is what this heart of mine is for
Yea, always searching for something more
Baby you think you
Have it all, don't you
Who am I to disagree?
Ain't nothing missing
By they way that your living
And you got all you need
But Baby you ain't got me
Knocking at your door
Begging you for more
Of the laughter and the love we made
I'll take everything you send my way
Baby you think you
Have it all, don't you
Who am I to disagree?
There ain't nothing missing
By they way that your living
And you got all you need
Baby you ain't got me
No baby you ain't got me
Now and then it keeps you runnin'
Never seems to die
Trails spin with fear
And not enough livin' on the outside
Never seem to get far enough
Stayin' inbetween the lines
Hold on to what you can
Waitin' for the end
Not knowin' when
Chorus:
May the wind take your troubles away
May the wind take your troubles away
Both feet on the floor
Two hands on the wheel
May the wind take your troubles away
Tryin' to make it far enough
To the next time zone
Few and far between past the midnight hour
You never feel alone
You're really not alone
Switchin' it over to am
Searchin' for a truer sound
Can't recall the call letters
Steel guitar and settle down
Catchin' an all night station
Somewhere in Louisiana
It sounds like 1963
But for now it sounds like heaven
Chorus
May the wind take your troubles away
May the wind
Nineteen days straight
Im lonely as hell and theres nothing I can do
The emptiness comes over me as I sit here thinking about you
I tear my boots off and set them on the floor next to my bed
Try to fall asleep but ill just end up laying there instead
Oh why? Do you wait for my lonely?
Why? Do I miss you only?
Why? Do we hold out for just one kiss?
Baby why? Makes perfect sense
Well its been 20 days
I bet you woke up bright and early right on time
Well I know its hard to start your day when the only thing to hold its a telephone line
Yeah tomorrow will be the same and everyday until Im done
Well I'll make sure to make it home to you girl just as fast as I can run
Oh why? Do you wait for my lonely?
Why? Do I miss you only?
Why? Do we hold out for just one kiss?
Baby why? Makes perfect sense
Oh I walk into the door and youre standing there
Girl you dont have to say it I already know
Ohwhy, you wait for my lonely
Why, I miss you only
Why, we hold out for just one kiss
Yeah baby why, you wait for my lonely
Why, I miss you only
Why, we hold out for just one kiss
Yeah cause why Makes perfect sense
Why can’t you love me?
What can’t you just be my girl?
Why’s it all got to be so complicated?
If you really love someone
I know you don’t really love me
And baby I guess that’s alright
At least I had my moment with you
And I’ll have that the rest of my life
Sometimes your dreams just don’t work out
You know I’ve had my share before
Guess it’s just another time that I’ll have to walk through
Another unopened door
Why’s it so hard
Hiding all of my pain
I’ll try not to be sad girl
I’ll just hide my tears behind the rain coming down
If that’s the only way to make you happy
Then I’ll do it against my will
Yeah we could have been something really special
Now that’s just a prophecy left unfulfilled
I hope my heart can handle all of this
It’s crazy the way I’m feeling inside
Maybe someday I’ll get over you
But for now I don’t even want to try
Sometimes your dreams just don’t work out
And it’s crazy the things I’m feeling inside
Maybe someday I’ll get over you
But for now I don’t even want to try
Why can’t you love me?
Why can’t you just be my girl?
Why’s it all got to be so complicated?
I love to watch the sunset, as it fades behind the trees
I love to talk with God, and get down upon my knees
I love the times I spend with my family and friends
I love to dream about all the places I’ve never been
And I love to watch you laugh and smile
I love to watch you dream
I love it when you take my hand
Just to let me know you believe in me
I love it that you’re my girl
I love that I’m your man
Now that you’re in my life, baby, I know
Exactly who I am
I know I love the ladies
I love to go out at night
I love it how we make up
Each and every time that we fight
I love you oh so very much
I love you more than words can say
And I don’t know how or why
But I love you more everyday
And I love to watch you laugh and smile
I love to watch you dream
I love it when you take my hand
Just to let me know you believe in me
I love it that you’re my girl
I love that I’m your man
Now that you’re in my life, baby, I know
Exactly who I am
oh I love to watch you laugh and smile
oh I love to watch you dream
I love it when you take my hand
Just to let me know you believe in me
I love it that you’re my girl
I love that I’m your man
Now that you’re in my life, baby, I know
Exactly who I am
yeah , yeah, yeah , yeah
Now that you’re in my life, baby, I know
(feat. Brandon Rhyder)
If you keep walking in circles, you’re gonna fall through the floor
And this old hardwood, can’t stand much more
I can’t make you stay, and I won’t make you go
Are those the same walking shoes, you’ve worn before
Chorus:
Oh your walking shoes, they’re looking pretty worn
But don’t worry darlin, I’ll buy you some more
I can see your toes, and there’s a hole in your soul
Oh your walking shoes, they’re looking worn
I remember the day, that you brought ‘em home
How you pranced around like a kid, when you put ‘em on
And to this day, I can’t count the times
I’ve seen you and your walkin’ shoes, saying goodbye
Repeat Chorus
I won’t be the hero, I won’t be the goat
I won’t tell you yes, and darlin’ I won’t tell you no
I’ll just sit on the front porch, and drink my lemonade
Waitin’ for you to make up your mind again
I’m not as good as I advertise
But then again, who really is?
Judgment is thrown around so easily
But nobody wants to catch it, they just want to side step it
I think I’ve finally had enough
Chorus:
Walking along the fenceline
Hands in my pockets got a million things on my mind
I’m not sure what I’m trying to find
So I’ll just keep walking
Knowing it’ll come with time
Walking along the fenceline
Faith and time go hand in hand
And I’ve found along the way my faith runs deep
Time is no longer one of my concerns
Think I’ve gone astray, going the wrong way
Why’s it so hard to simply be?
Chorus
Oh you think I’ve gone astray, going the wrong way
Why’s it so hard to simply be?
Its not easy anymore, everything seemed to change
In one blink of an eye, Im the man to lay the blame
I let you slip away, tried so hard to make this right
I have nothing left to do, nowhere else to turn
And I know its dark babe
Please turn on the lights
Let me see you crying
Youre not here alone
Im in here with you trying
I wanna see the truth
And find the broken pieces
We can make it right but you have, you have to
turn on the lights
We can step into the sun, kiss the night good bye
Those things that hold you down cut 'em loose and fly
So keep reaching for my hand, Ill be hard for you to see
The shadows fill the room, baby I wont let you go
And I know its dark babe
Please turn on the lights
Let me see you crying
Youre not here alone
Im in here with you trying
I wanna see the truth and find the broken pieces
We can make it right but you have to, you have to turn on the lights
Please dont be afraid, girl its only me
Yea, I am here to help you
Turn on the lights
Let me see you crying
Youre not here alone
Im in here with you trying
I wanna see the truth and find the broken pieces
Sometimes I get captured by the way a song sounds
It takes me inside and lifts me up off the ground
It can make you feel love like you’ve never felt before
Or it can make you cry and want to hide behind doors
For a song is more powerful that most people think
Go ahead and sit by the jukebox
And order up another drink
Chorus:
And try not to listen
Try not to hear the words
For that song that’s always haunted you
Is always gonna be heard
I hope you listen to my songs
I hope you listen to what I say
This song’s my life and that’s the reason
Oh the reason I was made
Sometimes I put some grit into it and sing it loud as I can
And I scream and yell at the crowd hoping that they understand
And sometimes they yell back and it’s as crazy as it can be
And I think to myself, what a hell of a life I lead
For a song is more powerful that most people think
Go ahead and sit by the jukebox
And order up another drink
Repeat Chorus
Sometimes it’s real slow and tender as it can be
And I look into your eyes and I wish you could see what I see
You may not want to listen, you may not like my style
But I promise you by the end of the night, there’s something you’re gonna realize
That a song is more powerful that most people think
Go ahead and sit by the jukebox
I wouldn’t say I didn’t see her coming
A light that bright’s hard to miss in a place that dark
She said yes to a drink while her fingers fumbled
With a cross on a chain that was swinging above her heart
When the morning sun set the midnight sky on fire
She left me like a thief not knowing what she took
I wish trouble always looked that good
I wish trouble always looked that good
I was still a little nervous when I got the courage to call
That bright red number she’d written on the back of my hand
A bottle of wine rode shotgun with a rose
While I was driving cross town thinking about turning back
Now there’s a porch light burning a hole right through my windshield
There’s a silhouette standing at the screen door waiting for me
I wish trouble always looked that good
I wish trouble always looked that good
I know a million reasons not to go where I’m headed
Oh but when she smiles I can’t even think of one
I wish trouble always looked that good
Sunday rolled around and I’m alone again
I picked up the phone and I started to call
I dialed your number, let it ring a couple of times
And hung it up ‘cause I was just too scared
Hardly a day goes by I don’t think about you
I know it’s been so long
I’ve still got the memories way down inside my heart
And I wonder if I’ll ever love like that again
Well I’m tired of being alone
I want to rest my weary head
And I want to know if love is real
I want to feel the passion
And the smile upon my face
Of my sweet baby in my arms
Loneliness is a lonely song and
I’ve been singing it way too long
I’m so tired of being alone
I’ve had people tell me that they’re tired
They been hearing my sob story way too long
They say I need to find someone
If only I would try
Oh but I’ve been trying way too long
I know I’ve made mistakes
That I can’t take back
I also know there’s no future living in the past
Well I don’t want us to give up
I know us better than that
All it’s going to take is for me to change
And baby I can live with that
Chorus:
So starting right now
Baby I’m going to love you right
I’m gonna be the man that you’ve always dreamed of
A promise you can keep for all of eternity
I’ll never let you down
Starting right now
Yeah you said yourself many times
Even without saying a word
You expect more from me
And girl I’m trying so hard to learn
It’s not always just about love
It’s about wanting to do what’s right
So I’m telling you now that I’m trying to change
It’s gonna talk a little time
CHORUS (x2)
Starting right now
Looking down at the strip from my hotel room,
It must be a full moon, cause their all out tonight
All the insecure boys in their muscle cars,
Young girls in their pushup bras under neon lights,
They come here for freedom, freedom from anything
And for miles and miles down this road, you can hear them sing
With their voices, and their engines, and their pounding radios
It seems like round here, no one knows
CHORUS:
No one knows that there’s more
Beyond these dead skies and these filthy streets
Take my hand and let me pull you
Out of the blindness of your weary soul
To somewhere beautiful
To somewhere beautiful
Is there any way to learn from what you’ve been told
Or do you really have to hold the experience
Cause you can hear me now, and come out clean
Trust me, I could spare you the consequence
I can tell by your eyes, that there ain’t no getting through
Cause you’re hell bent on doing exactly what you’ve gotta do
So welcome to a long line of sinners and saints
Is there anyone around here who ain’t
Don’t you know that there’s more
Beyond these dead skies and these filthy streets
Take my hand, and let me pull you
Out of the blindness of your weary soul
To somewhere beautiful
To somewhere beautiful
Don’t you know that there’s more
Beyond these dead skies and all these filthy streets
So take my hand, let me pull you
Out of the blindness of your weary soul
To somewhere beautiful
To somewhere beautiful
Well I'll just come out and say it
I don't come here much
If I'd said it as a question
You probably would've gotten up
Cause a pick up line
Just ain't my style and I assume it isn't yours
So why don't we just start with a drink
I'm in no mood to think
Please just say, say anything
Tell a story, ramble on
I'll pretend to go along
Yea, cause she, she wears someone else's ring
I let her go cause I was blind
And I can't get it off my mind
So say anything
I can't promise that I'll listen
Or hang on every word
Cause my thoughts tend to wonder
Every time I think of her
Oh, and how she could have told me
All I was doing wrong
She took my pride and left me broken
All because of things left unspoken
So, please just say, say anything
Tell a story, ramble on
I'll pretend to go along
Yea, cause she, she wears someone else's ring
I let her go cause I was blind
And I can't get it off my mind
So say anything
Give me pointless words with healing touch
I'll believe anything
You Say, say anything
Tell a story, ramble on
I'll pretend to go along
Yea, cause she, she wears someone else's ring
I let her go cause I was blind and I can't get it off my mind
So say anything
Baby, just say anything
Oh, anything
I must admit it’s a beautiful city at night
To a boy from the country with stars in his eyes
Sometimes the skyline will take your breath away
How can you feel so lonesome in a town this size?
CHORUS:
There’s a hit or miss chance I can find somebody
Now that I’ve got nobody to lose
So I’m hitting the town
Cause baby I’m missing you
I’ve got some jingle in my pockets for a change now
I feel like I’m itching from the inside out
Well I’m 15 stories above the streets of Dallas tonight
I hear the noise, I want to see what all the fuss is about
CHORUS
Well if I hurry I can make last call, at a sleezy little hole in the wall
I’ll knock them back as long as they’ll let me, as fast as I can
CHORUS x2
Missing you
Baby I’m missing you
The way she looks at me makes my head spin around,
I'm not quite sure yet just exactly what I've found,
The face of an angel and darkness that can make you cry
The wind blows all around us but time just passes by
She's a red headed woman with a cigarette and evil in her eyes
She's a red headed woman with a cigarette that's her clever disguise
Well the whiskey goes down a little smoother than it ever has before
She took one last drag from a cigarette and our clothes hit the floor
Well I bet she imagined another as she spoke with a wicked tongue
All the demons from inside of me something I could not overcome
She's a red headed woman with a cigarette desire in her eyes
She's a red headed woman with a cigarette that's her clever disguise
Well I walked away knowing that I've become something I could not ignore
And she just watched me as I turn around walk right out the devil's door
Pack of cigarettes on the night stand just one more left to smoke
Her red hair stood out in the darkness and the silence took over her soul
She's a red headed woman with a cigarette desire in her eyes
She's a red headed woman with a cigarette thats her clever disguise
She's a red headed woman with a cigarette and evil in her eyes
She's a red headed woman with a cigarette that's her pretty eyed disguise
Awww yeahh ayyy
Well she's a red headed woman with a cigarette
Please come to Boston for the springtime
I’m staying here with some friends and they’ve got lots of room
You can sell your paintings on the sidewalk
By a cafe' where I hope to be working soon
Please come to Boston
She said no, baby, you come home to me
She said hey ramblin’ boy why don’t you settle down
Boston ain’t your kind of town
There ain’t no gold, and there ain’t nobody like me
I’m the number one fan of the man from Tennessee
Please come to Denver with the snowfall
We’ll move up into the mountains so far that we can’t be found
We’ll throw I love you echoes down the canyon
And then lie awake at night ‘til they come back around
Please come to Denver
She said no, baby, you come home to me
She said hey ramblin’ boy why don’t you settle down
Denver ain’t your kind of town
There ain’t no gold, and there ain’t nobody like me
I’m the number one fan of the man from Tennessee
Bridge:
Now the drifter’s world goes round and round
And I doubt if it’s ever gonna stop
But of all the dreams I’ve lost and found
And all that I ain’t got
I just need to lean to somebody I can sing to
Please come to LA to live forever
California life alone is just too hard to build
I live in a house that looks out over the ocean
And there’s some stars that fell from the sky living up on the hill
Please come to LA
She said no, baby, you come home to me
She said hey ramblin’ boy why don’t you settle down
LA ain’t your kind of town
There ain’t no gold, and there ain’t nobody like me
You had me down
And I lost my way
I was looking for signs
Every single day
Please by all means don’t call me back
Should I be ashamed?
Should I run back home?
Should I shut my mouth?
Leave this mess alone
But I’ve got time and the rhythm won’t let me sleep
And the wind is blowing hard out
Chorus:
And I’m not finished yet
I got one song left to sing
And it won’t make me rich
But it just might keep me sane
And I’m all out of words
Cause you pushed me from behind
I never asked anything of you
But thank you for my line
Girl finds a boy
Girl falls in love
They fly away in a pickup truck
That’s the way that it ends on the highway
Yeah, that’s the way that it ends around here
Repeat Chorus
Just one more thing
Before I shut my mouth
Perhaps I left a few pieces out
If you want to hear the rest you just leave a message
Chorus:
Nobody’s fool anymore I do just fine out on my own
You’re so cruel; it’s much easier now that I am alone
And it’s too late; yeah I’m all gone,
There’s nothing you can do
I’m nobody’s fool
Well you sure look pretty, standing in the window, as I pull out of the drive
The same old look girl ain’t good enough to slow me down this time
I stared at you in the rearview mirror; you were thinking I’d turn back
It’s kinda funny how many times we talked about that
Chorus
Well looking back, I should have seen the writing on the wall
But it was covered up so perfectly by the pictures in the hall
Each one had a smile that somehow never seemed just right
I couldn’t tell, yeah but now it’s black and white
Chorus
Well the next one that comes my way
It will show
And she’ll find out what you already know
Chorus
And it’s too late, girl I’m long gone,
There’s nothing you can do
Seems like I live my whole life just like every other man
Trying to figure out everything I can
About the way you work, and all your wicked ways
There’s no way of winning, all these games you make us play
Think we got it all figured out, then you gotta go and change
Well I’m a fast sinking ship baby and you’re the one to blame
You took all of my courage, you nailed it to the wall
Now I’m hung up like an innocent fool with nowhere to fall
Chorus:
It’s the mystery of a woman
Don’t’ know why they do what they do
It’s the mystery of a woman
Oh how I wish I knew what they do
Don’t think I got all the answers, son I’m not a preacher man
It’s just the way I feel, you don’t have to understand
But the same’s been done to you, you’ve heard it all before
Might as well stop tryin to find the key that opens up, opens up that door
CHORUS
When you take my breath away, where does it go?
I guess you take it to a place, that I’ll never know
There’s so much to be considered when you’re dealing with hearts like mine
You always act like you don’t care, are you going to act like that this time?
I wished I smoked cigarettes
Then I'd have a reason to keep some by my bed and I wouldn't be searching out every drawer in the house for matches, matches
It hasn't rained here for weeks
Yeah, I've got the courage, got the gasoline
and theres a warm wind blowin off of the mountains in the east. Can you feel the breeze?
Chorus:
Maybe we should just let go
Set whats left of us up in smoke
Cuz this love is full of lies, sorries we don't use
here I am to find myself down to one excuse
there with bitter emptyness, hell its a damn fuse, it's gonna make or find pile of ashes
Mistakes and memories will burn
More fuel for the fire another lesson never learned
One more chance for you and me to get it all out with matches, matches
Chorus:
Maybe we should just let go
Set whats left of us up in smoke
Cuz this love is full of lies, sorries we don't use
here I am to find myself down to one excuse
there with bitter emptyness, hell its a damn fuse, it's gonna make or find pile of ashes
Once I find the matches
Chorus:
Cuz this love is full of lies, sorries we don't use
here I am to find myself down to one excuse
there with bitter emptyness, hell its a damn fuse, it's gonna make or find pile of ashes
Yeah It's gonna make or find pile of ashes
once I find the matches
Well, I wished I smoked cigarettes
Cuz then I'd have a reason to keep some by my bed and I wouldn't be searching out every drawer in the house for matches,
Well I love that girl with all my heart
Yeah I love her more than anything
But she told me yesterday
To get the hell away
I hope that was something she didn’t mean
Last week I tried to kiss her
Oh it seemed like the right thing to do
But she slapped me across the face
And we went our separate way
I turned around and screamed I still love you
Chorus:
Cause there’s a long list of reasons
Why I keep hangin’ on
I hope you all can see
Just what she’s doing to me
I’m tired of her always treating me wrong
I tried to call her on the phone
Just hoping we could talk a little more
She didn’t like that at all
She hung up and blocked my calls
Now I can’t reach her anymore
She went out with some other guy
I tried not to let it bother me
It took the wind right out of my sails
I got drunk and got in jail
Now I’m as lonely as I can be
Chorus:
Cause there’s a long list of reasons
Why I keep hangin’ on
I think I’ll sit right here
And drink another beer
Until the early morning dawn
I got out of jail and saw her on the street
I tried so hard to wave her down
She just hopped into her truck
Hit the gas and off the clutch
She flipped me off as she was leaving town
She packed up and she moved far away
My friends say it was all because of me
I don’t think that’s true
I’ll see her again real soon
Cause I found out that she moved out to Abilene
Chorus:
There’s a long list of reasons
Why I keep hangin’ on
I think I’ll sit right here
And keep on drinkin’ beer
Until the early morning dawn
Yeah I think I’ll sit right here
And keep on drinkin’ them beers
Let’s go out for the evening
Let’s see what we can do
Let’s see what kind of trouble
We can get into
Let’s go out dancing
And party all night long
It’s just me and you baby
From now till the break of dawn
I don’t know why, I don’t know how
But we’re gonna get it done
We’re gonna have the best night of our lives
Just for fun
It might get a little crazy
It might get wild at times
I might even try to kiss you
Oh, if you don’t mind
There’s just something about you
That makes me feel so good inside
Lord it’s a feeling I just can’t deny
Chorus
I’ve got on my cowboy hat
I ain’t worn it in awhile
I’m trying to do everything babe
Just to see you smile
Let’s go sit by the jukebox
Put it on song number 29
I know it’s your favorite
You heard that I was taking it bad
All of this talk will drive you mad
They say they saw the writing on the wall
Before we ever even had a chance to fall
There's nothing left to worry about
Let everyone else try to figure it out
They're gonna say what they want to say
Only you and I know what really happened that day
When you told me that I wasn't the one
And I agreed it was time to run away
From everything that we had
Well you drove away with tears in your eyes
The only thing left to say was goodbye
We threw away everything that we'd found
And it's all over town
Somebody said you were takin' it rough
But I stepped right in and called their bluff
You're stronger than you want to believe
When they say that you'll never get over me
We don't have to think this through
They don't have to walk in our shoes
I think I finally had enough of
Everybody guessing why we gave up
When you told me that I wasn't the one
And I agreed it was time to run away
From everything that we had
Well you drove away with tears in your eyes
The only thing left we could say was goodbye
We threw away everything that we'd found
And it's all over town
Yeah when you told me that I wasn't the one
And I agreed it was time to run away
From everything that we had
Yeah you drove away with tears in your eyes
The only thing left we could say was goodbye
We threw away everything that we'd found
Yeah we threw away everything that we'd found
Baby don’t speak, save your energy
Just write down what you have to say
Should I turn on the tv? Can I get you anything?
I’ll be right here when you wake
I thought we had a million years
And I spent them like you’d be right here
Now it’s coming in loud and clear
Maybe much too late my dear
CHORUS:
How long, baby, how long, have you held my heart?
Hold on, if you can hold on, but if we’re torn apart
When you cross the great divide, beg Jesus to
Pull me onto the other side, into the arms of you
Sitting here drowning in a sea of our memories
Our first apartment, you on the couch
The way you kissed me, and all those little things
Now that’s all I want to think about
God if you gave us a million more
I’d spend my life on what life should be spent for
Just let both of us walk out that door
CHORUS
I can’t imagine living here without you
So if anything happens, that’s what you’ve gotta do
Tell Pete to open up the gates and let me through
CHORUS
Into the arms of you
Is anybody out there searching
Has anybody lost the way
Am I the only one who’s hurting
Today
Must have got some bad directions
How’d we ever end up here
All this pain and desperation
And fear
If we ever make it home
They’ll be peace like we’ve never known
Nobody’s gonna walk alone
We’ll be leaning on each other
Every wall that we’ve built up high
Is gonna fall right before our eyes
Love will surely conquer hate
If we ever make it home
There’s darkness in the daylight
As the devil works his trade
He’s the first one to the gravesite
With a smile on his face
There’s a flicker in the distance
Where a single candle glows
And another walking with us
Who knows
If we ever make it home
They’ll be peace like we’ve never known
Nobody’s gonna to walk alone
We’ll be leaning on each other
Loving one another
Every wall that we’ve built up high
Is gonna fall right before our eyes
Love will surely conquer hate
If we ever make it home
Wade Bowen - Ghost In This Town
Why did I think that I could change you?
I loved you more than my own life, its true
Well I didnt wanna say goodbye to you
With that last hurt I got the strength to
Two years and some change since we split ways
This town and its memories make me pay
Our old friends faces is where they stay
And they come collecting everyday
Gotta break these ties that bind me down
Im growing sick and tired of feelin' so run down
I gotta make myself a ghost in this town
Its worse when I find myself all alone
Dont miss your kiss, your touch they're long gone
But sometimes these walls they mumble and they moan
I guess they're just used to having someone
I gotta break these ties that bind me down
Im growing sick and tired of feelin' so run down
I gotta make myself a ghost in this town
I cant let my own heart be my own prison
Its time that I break out
Its time that I start over now...
Gotta break these ties that bind me down
Im growing sick and tired of feelin' so run down
I gotta make myself a ghost in this town
Yeah I gotta break these ties that bind me down
Oh Im growing sick and tired of feelin' so run down
Yeah I gotta make (A myself a ghost
I gotta make myself a ghost
Chorus
You got your getaway and I got mine. Go ahead and run but girl take your
time. There’s No tellin’ what we both might find. You got your getaway and I got mine.
Verse
We’ve been at each other’s throats for a while. I think we just need some rest. Both got
different ways of handling things, we’ve gotta get through all this mess. Take a break from
tryin’ to please one another, we might actually find the truth. Who we are, and what we’re about.
There something to ourselves we get to prove.
Chorus
You got you getaway and I got mine. Go ahead and run but girl take your time. There’s
No tellin’ what we both might find. You got your getaway and I got mine.
Think I’ll drive out to my brothers’ land. Treat a six string as my best friend. Sit by the
water and I’ll think all night. Send my mind into a relative spin. If I know you, you’re
probably callin’ the girls, plan a night on the town. You’ll talk angry and you’ll talk mad, but
you’ll run to me when the end of the night rolls around.
Chorus
Bridge
I’m not tryin’ to be clever. And you know that I’ll never let you leave. I just want you to
be happy, every things gonna be alright, it always is with you and me. yeah.
Chorus 2X
You got you getaway and I got mine. Go ahead and run and, girl take your time. There’s
I can’t change the way we’re talkin’, but tryin’ might do us good
I can’t change the way the world’s spinning, but I sure wish I could
You can’t step twice baby in the same river, you can’t ever go back in time
Yesterday’s over baby, we’ll survive
CHORUS:
So dance a little closer, laugh about this crazy day
Or lay your head down on my shoulder, and we’ll cry the world away
We’ll find a tender moment, let it heal up what it should
Love has always kept us going, going from bad to good
From bad to good
Look at all this time we’re wasting thinking about what to do
We’ve got so much more between us and we’ve always seen the rough times through
I can’t handle another quiet moment, being lost means we can only be found
Take my hand, let’s turn this thing around
If you’re ever in Lubbock, Texas, be sure to look me up
I’ll be the one on the barstool too damn drunk to get up
I’ll be drinkin one for you
Since you said we’re through
Without you honey what else can I do
Yeah I got good friends in whiskey, they let me know they care
Every morning, noon, and night-time
Well they’re here when you’re not there
You can’t make a drunk quit drinking
You can’t make the waters part
You sure as hell can’t mend my broken heart
Father Time has told me, son, she’s long gone
But her memory just lingers on, lingers on
Well what else can I say
Guess I gone and lost my way
Her memory died just the other day
Everyday, I go on living
I take each day at a time
When I wake up, I awake in sorrow
As I watch you, walk right on out my door
If you’re in Lubbock Texas, be sure to drive on through
We got enough here of your kind, sure as hell don’t need you
Well you bothered me too much
Hell you made me write this song
I’ll be happy when you’re long gone
Yeah I’ll be happy
I’ll be happy
Daddy and the devil walk side by side
Me and momma, we tried to hide
He couldn’t stay sober if he tried
Daddy and the devil walked side by side
The devil had a hold on daddy’s hand
He never had a straight and narrow plan
Down a dark and deadend road they ran
The devil had a hold on daddy’s hand
CHORUS:
He took his soul and he took his pride
But the devil still ain’t satisfied
We all cried the day he died
Daddy and the devil walked side by side
Daddy and the devil were the best of friends
We all know that story’s end
But it’s the son who pays for the father’s sins
Daddy and the devil were the best of friends
CHORUS
Years gone by and I’m a full grown man
It took a lot of living to understand
How a good man falls for the devil’s plans
The devil had a hold on daddy’s hand
CHORUS
Tell me, tell me they got the wrong man
And they dealt me somebody else's hand
I was sitting right here five years ago
Tell me that it won't be five years more
I once looked everyone in the eye
Had my feet on the floor and my head in the sky
I listened when they spoke, now I could care less
Except when they whisper how I'm such a mess
CHORUS
Well I've got no where to run, but the night has just begun
And I know it's going to end somewhere
Lay my head in some strange place, same look upon my face
Another wasted night alone
Trying to turn this bottle into gold
Tell me, tell me your a drifter too
It would ease my mind if we wore the same shoes
Cuz you would know how hard it is to just sit here
And watch them all fly by year after year
CHORUS x 2
Please give me something more to hold
Turn this bottle into gold
Oh tell me, tell me they got the wrong man
